Crow Facts Researchers for the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority found over 200 dead crows near greater Boston recently, and there was concern that they may have died from Avian Flu. A Bird Pathologist examined the remains of all the crows, and, to everyone's relief, confirmed the problem was definitely NOT Avian Flu. The cause of death appeared to be vehicular impacts. However, during the detailed analysis it was noted that varying colors of paints appeared on the bird's beaks and claws. By analyzing these paint residues it was determined that 98% of the crows had been killed by impact with trucks, while only 2% were killed by an impact with a car. MTA then hired an Ornithological Behaviorist to determine if there was a cause for the disproportionate percentages of truck kills versus car kills. He very quickly concluded the cause: When crows eat road kill, they always have a look-out crow in a nearby tree to warn of impending danger. They discovered that while all the lookout crows could shout "Cah", not a single one could shout "Truck."4 points

Just an update for those who have asked. Brandon is doing better. He's out of ICU and in a room as of today. He still has multiple surgeries pending on his arm before we'll know for sure whether or not he'll get to keep it. However, he's stable, awake, and doing well..all things considered.4 points

Since I walked 200 yards to the mail box and my mustache was completely frozen. One hard wipe would have done the hot wax treatment! With frozen mustache and ice cycles eight inches long hanging off of it, I proceed to the chicken house two hundred yards away to collect the eggs. As the tops of my ears and finger tips were turning a nice dark shade of black, my snot the size of a grape frozen under my nose, I collected the eggs. The first egg I picked up was cracked, so I threw it against my aluminum pole barn in disgust and put a nice dent in it. Long story short, every egg was cracked and frozen harder than my ice cubes in my freezer. That's with a 200 watt light and heated water pan in the small coop. Forgot my second grade physics, that heat rises and water freezes pipes below 32 degrees. Had my wood burning stove going and staying nice and toasty upstairs and the furnace basically off. Went down to the basement this afternoon to retrieve a Glock and install a Talon grip on it for something to do. Open the basement door and proceed down the stairs and notice I could see my breath and how cold it was with the furnace off down there. Asked the wife to stick her tongue to the well pressure tank to see if I had anything to worry about? Guess she's not as dumb as I thought  I guess I shouldn't complain, my son lives up around the St. Louis area across the street from a Walmart super center and walked there this morning. He sent us a picture of the meat(s) displays and except for maybe a dozen items, were completely empty? If we ever have an actual emergency, can you imagine how fast the grocery shelves will become empty? Well, the water from my moustache and nose is thawing and dripping all over this key board so have to change cloths :rofl:3 points

There's a reason America rocks and it ain't the pretty looking flag, its that piece of paper you mention in your handle. Every single article is there for a reason. You want to see our criminals tortured, go move to one of the sh;t hole countries that still does that kind of crap. Nope, can't get behind that idea even a little.3 points

Yea I been collecting old boxes of 22 for a few years all these are full original boxes of ammo some I had some picked up at fleamarkets and other places. Don't know if there is much collector value to them I just thought it was a cool collection some remind me of boxes I use to load and shoot through my old nylon 66 as a kid. Jason3 points

TGO #2. Also a Grendel. Also wearing the Vortex glass, thanks to the Larue mount. I have a couple other long range scopes. Not sure how that will shake out. Probably another Larue.3 points

"One Second After" really scarred the crap out of me. I new where it was going. It was really sureal reading it. My son was the tthe same age as teh girl inthe book and I have family that lives in western NC not real far from Black Mountain. After I read it it took a long time before I could watch Apocalyptic movies. I don't think of things through the prism of "TEOTWAWKI"... too bleak for me. I look and plan for getting through an extended rough patch! ;) If you think about it though, so many people are on blood pressure medicne, blood thinners, pain blockers, etc. that you would think medical or medicines should be the first or at least high up on the list. I know a few guys that have thousand of rounds, BOB bags that way about 50 lbs and they talk about "what they'll do" and game all these situations out loud... the whole time I'm thinking "Dude! You take motrin like tic-tacs for your 'back', you got acid reflux and sleep elavated and you can't walk through the mall without compaining about your feet hurting and your out of breath by the time we make it across the parking lot!" :stunned: So yeah... I just nod and say "Sounds like a plan." :shake:3 points

I was in Walmart a few days before Christmas. I stopped by sporting goods and seen a line of about 10 or so people. From the looks of it most were picking up guns. There were some 22 on the shelf as well so who knows. I was looking at some scopes when I seen some adults act awful. Well a mother, and her son who didn't look 10, were there picking up his Christmas present. He was getting a nice bolt action 22 which was probably his first "real" gun. After the background they began ringing up the purchase but before they paid they asked for a few boxes of 22. They weren't getting all of it but you wouldn't know it based on how the adults were acting. The second she asked for the two boxes a universal "huff" came from the crowd followed by comments about how it was BS followed by a lot if whispering. It was enough that the mother was looking around to figure out what was going on. Hopefully the kid didn't catch on but the mother sure did. I say this because something needs to give when adults are bitching about a kid getting a gun and ammo.3 points

I just visited a Walmart store that I've never been to. A really nice manager said " looking for .22"? I said no, I have given up to the hoarders and gypsy resellers. He said " try back tomorrow , this store is now going to set ammo out at random times. We are tired of making 5 resellers happy and pissing off 500 customers who actually but other merchandise. " holy cow!!! This is the fair way to do it. I hope they really do this. The store manager said he's tired of the reselling and tired of the upset customers who want ammo. Win win!!2 points

Well. I drive a semi for a living and despite using 2 times the amount of anti gel chemicals in the fuel, my fuel filters have frozen up. My boss said to just get it towed and get the filters changed tomorrow. So at least I get to ride in a big fancy Kenworth rotator tonight lol. I am in Ohio just a little north of Columbus on I-71 and it's a cool -13. I am lucky and do have an APU generator on the truck and am sitting toasty waiting on the wrecker. I usually stay local but just had to take this trip to make a few extra bucks. And the funny thing is... my trailer is full of hot tubs. Yep 11 spas. Irony.2 points

That seems to be case with quite a few examples of the British movie industry, as well as every other nations' these days. Not saying I agree with this, but a few years(decades) ago; the occasional foul language was used for shock value and/or to make a strong point in the dialog or the movie story. These days, the shock is if the movie makes it thru 2 lines of dialog without 47 m-fer's, 14 f-u's and a smattering of oldfashioned g-d's. I realize that in today's world and society that is getting to be the norm...and that is a terrible shame.2 points

Well my trailcam was stolen. I had it on our farm almost all year long and now someone decided to take it. I figured it would have been safe since the only way in (besides foot and a long walk) was a road that runs right by my moms house but guess I was wrong. There are only a hand full at best that have permission to hunt and they all didn't take it. I do have a few cousins that own land around it and maybe one of them took it but I don't know. Oh well can't have anything good cause some idiot will take it. They just better hope I never find out cause I'm not going to be nice about it. Pretty sure someone in the family took it but I can't prove it right now. Guess you can't trust anyone these days.2 points

Nice Sniper23! I just loaded (100) rounds of .308 using some of these primers, This very can of BLC-2 and some 150g jacketed bullets I scored from Dolomite. Loaded for a buddy of mine for his Savage axis. Not only did they go bang, they grouped around 3/4" at a hundred. The Western Primers are in WOODEN TRAYS. When's the last time you seen that?!?2 points

Naive how? Because folks just weren't smart enough to predict that we would be living in Nazi Germany? What kind of networked communication do you envision that's spy proof? Technology isn't our problem, and there's nothing wrong with any of the current technologies. We have a problem with our government. No new technology will fix that.2 points

[quote name="jonathon1289" post="1090227" timestamp="1389021623"]Going to be a great game tonight. I think Auburn has the edge for playing in the SEC.[/ Coaching is far more important than conference played in. There's an old saying- Bear Bryant can take his team and beat yours then take your team and beat his. Saban lost the Iron Bowl due to poor coaching/decisions. Tonight's game will come down to which coach does better at leveraging their teams talent. Go Noles!2 points

It was 39 and snowing at 5AM. By 7 it was 20 and everything had iced over. Down to 15 now but the roads around here are clear for the most part. When I let the dog out for his 1st wizz of the day he went out the door at his normal speed of about 150 mph. I tried to slow him down but it was too late. He hit the ice on the driveway and the wreck started. For a moment he looked like he had 10 legs and 3 buttholes but he managed to correct the spin and stay upright. Pretty damn good driving on his part. Then he froze. I yelled my head off but he just stood there with a come and carry my ass back inside look in his eyes. So of course I went out and carried him back in. He's not got within 10 feet of the door since then. I've laughed all morning about it.2 points

I got up yesterday morning on the odd chance that I'd get lucky and see something with all the wind. I started walking to my stand at about 6:20 just when it started to get somewhat light out. I got to the opening of the field my stand is in and there were already four big does out there eating so I plopped down on the ground and waited. I had to wait a good 20 minutes before I could be for certain they were all does and take a shot. I HATE shooting prone but I didn't have much choice at this point. I normally shoot off of my knee but I with the wind blowing and cold hands I decided not to chance a bad shot. I took off my big outer jacket and rolled it up into a nice prop and took the shot. I made a heart shot instead of a shoulder shot but I am going to blame that on the 200mph winds! She went about 15 yards and went down. Not only did I beat the rain but got to drop her off at the processor and head back home in time for church. I didn't get my big buck but I did get to take my wife hunting for the first time and witness her make an awesome 300 yard shot and drop her first deer where it stood! I had another great season but now comes a bigger challenge. With the move to Nashville coming up in a few weeks I have only 10 or so months to find a new place to hunt!!! :up:2 points
-
Well I am sad & glad at the same time about the season being over. Sad that the only time I saw a truely nice shooter buck was the weekend of the juvenile hunt and I couldn't shoot. Glad it was a safe season, and for the deer that I did get, 1 cull that needed to be taken, and three does. Glad that I don't have to get up early on my days off, lol. Glad for all the memories and the sights and sounds of nature that I got to enjoy. Congrats to all that got the opportunity to take a deer, and better luck this fall to those that weren't as successful. Was a good year all an all. Hey, won't be that long til we get to chase Daves favorite bird. lol. Sorry couldn't help it Dave.2 points

Adding... Just because we have the ability to yell "FIRE" at any time does not give the government the right to stand at the door and tape every mouth shut as they enter. It's already illegal to murder someone.2 points

Sounds like my town. There have been dozens of break ins in the past couple of months. I know in my little town crime is rampant, violent and non violent. In my county it is amazing at how many people are victims. Most don't even call LE anymore because our sheriff has publically, in a newspaper, said not to call unless it is a life threatening emergency. He even said if you have been burglarized come in the next business day to file a report and don't call them. I have several friends who have been robbed and called 911 but the officers never showed. When they called back to find out where the officers were they were told the officers would not be coming because the robber is likely already gone so there is nothing the officers could do. Here is my little towns response to our sheriff's inability to provide even the most basic services. http://www.wate.com/story/23975463/blaine-residents-packing-heat-to-protect-themselves-from-crime So far the biggest single haul was over $100K worth of stuff from a single home. And even to this day the sheriff's office has not hired more people, extended the patrol hours or started responding to alleged crimes. There were times when there were NO officers on duty, only ones on call. And even today you might have to wait more than an hour for an officer if they are responding to another call because it takes over an hour to drive from one end of the county to the other. And people wonder why I carry 100% of the time.2 points

You do not need to take the barrel off the receiver to blue it. Most are blue assembled at the factory. Of all the ones I have b lued I have never removed the barrel. Disassemble everything else from the receiver. Polish, degrease, degrease, did I mention degrease thoroughly, then blue. Be sure to wear rubber gloves so the oils from you skin do not get on the steel.1 point

Depends, if there is an unposted business near by offering similar services I give them first shot at my business. I.E. You will always find me shopping at the Green Hills mall(if for some odd reason I need a mall) rather than in Cool Springs Galleria since they are equal distances from my home and for the most part offer similar stores. Same with Sams Club vs Costco. If it's a restaurant such as Loveless(My wife loves the preserves and biscuits) I'll disarm to keep the family happy or occasionally suggest(in advance if possible) a similar alternative. I.E. Puckett's. If I need the services and nowhere offers comparable services I'll leave the gun at home/in my car. I.E. the Post Office. I do not carry past postings on purpose, if I'm beyond the sign and armed you can assume I unknowingly used an alternate unposted entrance or the signage was not clearly visible.(I look pretty hard in most cases)1 point
