  1.   This is only true because people listen to the Democrats and Republicans who continually tell them such things as, "This is the most important election of our lifetime," or "If you vote for <the other guys> you're throwing your vote away." The truth is, I couldn't possibly care less what they have to say. I will vote my conscience and sleep well at night, even if that means voting Libertarian. I'll be damned if I'll let a slimy, greasy, bought-and-paid-for politician whose only ambition in life is to climb higher on the taxpayer-funded ladder tell me what is right or wrong.

  5. Jerry, welcome to the club...  I ended up joining about 6 years ago...  I've never completely agreed with Ron Paul's thoughts on National Defense...  but listening to him opened up my eyes some...  You're never going to agree with a candidate 100% of the time, IMHO you need to find somebody you agree with most of the time, and hope they'll stay true to their beliefs once in office.   The truth is libertarians come in all shapes and sizes, and we don't all agree with each other :)  Some are against strong borders and immigration policy... some of us aren't for it.   The national defense issues...  we just have to look for common ground...  My opinion is there is a lot of waste, fraud and abuse in the current DoD budget...  You were in the military I'm sure you saw waste all the time...  There are all sorts of programs the military isn't even asking for that could be cut... How much, I don't know, my guess 30+% of the budget could be cut and not impact our ability to fight...  maybe it's a little less, maybe it's a lot more...  but the military shouldn't be a serving dish for corporate welfare...  it's one of the few things the federal government does that is authorized under the constitution and we should be careful not to waste money on it.   We also don't really need 900 military based outside the country....  Doesn't mean we need to close all of them down...  but how many do we really need?  maybe 100?  These act as a de facto foreign aide to countries who can afford their own security...  We're spending US tax dollars to protect Germany, so they don't have to spend their GDP on their own military...  I'm not saying we don't need to do that...  but first off we shouldn't be paying for the privilege...  Germany should be providing the bases for free, and should be shoulder most of the cost.   Anyhow welcome to the club..  feel free to PM me if you feel the need...  once your mind starts down this path it can be a little shocking how you're world view on a topic can change suddenly :)  Truth is we're so out numbered on here we should start a support group...  I'm sure 6.8 and Chuck would join as well ;)

  6. I think it is less about their effectiveness and more about how stupid Americans are. I mean, we've seen more criminal scandals in this administration than any before and Obama would win if elections were held tomorrow. They don't even have to try any more.

  9. The "bathwater" is the public school system and it's contaminated beyond cleaning.   These anecdotal incidents have gone fare beyond infrequent odd happenings - they are happening everywhere and all the time. This past December a high school senior in Georgia was suspended for a year for...gasp...hugging a teacher...he won't graduate this spring...he won't qualify for the sports scholarship he was going to receive all because he hugged a teacher.  Georgia is trying to pass a law that will require, under penalty of law for non-compliance, parents to inform the school district if there are firearms in the home when then enroll their children or if they buy any firearms after that while the child is in school. Why the hell does ANYBODY need to know if I or anyone else has firearms in my home just because I have children in a public school?  Are they going to start dictating what books I can read next???  Then there is the recent crap (and all the prior crap coming from the Feds) such as what started this thread in the first place! If that kind of crap can happen in Georgia there is absolutely no reason to think it can't happen in Tennessee or anywhere else and what is being dictated by the government and the teacher's unions and the rest of the cesspool of liberal thought is happening in Tennessee because Tennessee schools can't escape it.   Have you looked at what has been and is being taught to students who were/are in the education tract in college today or what is being required by administrations and state and federal governments?  Everyone wants to think that THEIR school system is different but it isn't different...the system is corrupt and beyond repair...it needs to be abolished and the government needs to stop taxing people to support it.  Then, if individual parents want to come together with other parents and have a school where their children attend without Washigton or Nashville telling them what and how they must teach then fine...that's the only kind of public school that should exist.   If you or anyone else wants to keep their kids in the public school system ...if they think that's what's best that's fine...it's their choice.

  11. Unfortunately, you are absolutely correct. But it's not because a Libertarian candidate can't win; it's because most voters are sheep that are so brainwashed by the two-party system, they are unable to believe that a Libertarian can win. If every single person would vote their conscience and not for the candidate the pundits or establishment politicians want you to vote for, the Libertarian would win by a landslide.

  12. I just cant get over that whole thing..I feel kinda sorry for her actually.. I don`t know how a woman.. or women.. can go thru life thinking that is rape and that men are only having sex for dominance. Its not like a dog hiking his leg to mark his territory. Maybe something happened to her as a child or maybe it was hammered into her head at a young age. From the article and her blog participants it seems that there is a  whole bunch of those females out there.   Its sad that she has such hate in herself and I think she is missing out, what could be years of love and happiness with the right person.   What a sad , sad person she is

I heard numerous bad stories with other companies, progressive seemed to be one of the worst. I have been with USAA about 8 years and have nothing but great experiences.

  23. I have, and have had, a number of 60's and 70s guns and few problems actually.  I consider the 60s to have been a golden age of firearms -- the name brand items were well made indeed.  But the offbrands, brands that are so long gone you have never even heard of them .... some are gems and some are junk.     A lot of it depends on the previous owner, though.  If abused or worn out or poorly stored, they will have problems.  If hardly shot and lovingly stored and cared for, they will be like new.   Its not a question we can answer in general.     Price is determined by the market, of course.  A 1 of 250 made and 1 of 20 surviving guns with rust holes you can see through and missing a hammer is still worth a lot more than a glock that was made last week with a broken extractor.   Then again, if its one of the 100000000000000000 browning shotguns made from 1900 to 2000, and it looks like it spent the last 50 years being dragged behind a truck, paying a premium is probably foolish.    which leads me to say...   research first, buy later.  figure out if its a collector's item, or just a shooter.   Look towards the shooters -- many are just a couple hundred bucks or even less, as they made tons of them and most are still out there, in fine condition, etc.   Buy from a place that has a return policy if the gun is not functional, OR allows you to test fire it, or something.   Learn what to look for in the model you seek --- common things that break or wear out, for example.     What gets people into trouble is buying from an individual "as-is" some gun they they know nothing about (price? rare? age? was it considered junk even back when it was new?, or good stuff? ... etc) , going into it feet first without any research or knowledge.   These days, it pays to at least haul a portable web enabled device so you can step back, read up for 10 min, and have at least a quick idea about what you are looking at....!!

  24. I hear tell a dull knife is more dangerous than a sharp one? If that be the case, you'll want Butter Knife Dennis1209 out of your kitchen drawers.   When my butter is very hard and I need two pats of it for my toast or something I use technology myself. I get out my sharpest knife and run the flame of a Bic lighters over the blade for about 15 seconds and... problem solved, repeat for additional pats.

  28.   It's true because it takes a strong brand and LOTS of money to win a national election. It would be a whole different deal if the majority of folks paid as much attention as we do. They don't. And, a growing number is too stupid to make sense of it even if they did pay attention.   I don't care if somebody comes up with the greatest cola that ever was. Somebody probably already has. The majority of folks are going to drink Coke or Pepsi, not because they're better, but because they're unbeatable brands with billions of development dollars behind them.

  29. From the TWRA website/regulations   I personally don't think either is a good idea.....how many have friends that hunt with them, or others erroneously stray onto their land?   (www.tnwildlife.org). Landowners and their children hunting on their parent’s land under this exemption are also exempt from Hunter Education Certification requirements and blaze orange requirements

  34. You're not likely to be hassled by the police for excessive rear window tint, based on personal experience.  That is, unless you're a known bad actor.  In that case, the cops will pull you over for window tint, just to talk to you and smell the smoke inside your car.  :D

  35. While the landowner/family doesn't have to have a state license, if they hunt waterfowl they must have a Fed.Duck Stamp.  I also believe they have to conform to all other regs, such as seasons, bag limits, and wearing orange.

  36. Instead of paying for an FBI background check I spent $30 for a C&R license. Unlike the TBI; the BATF told me exactly what was showing up (Actually what wasn’t showing up; a disposition) and how to fix it. I followed their instructions and have never had a problem again, plus I got a C&R FFL. Prior to that I had it happen twice after coming to TN. Both times I appealed at the time I was turned down and the denials were revered within four days. After the BATF explained to me what was happening and how to fix it I haven’t had a problem. TBI should have explained it to me; but they were clueless.

  37. It wouldn't be so bad if I knew what was holding me up, TBI wouldn't tell me anything on the phone or in the letter. From what I understand of the link that OS put up is my only option is to appeal the nics. I am really not looking forward to dealing with the FBI. I tthink my tin foil hat is getting to tight because I have had some weird thoughts lately.
