  1. As of 8:00 PM this evening, I just completed my 11th day of being tobacco free.  It is all downhill at this point.   I gave up a 14 year smoking habit 11 years ago only to switch to a can to 1.5 cans per day of smokeless tobacco.  While I was going through some flu-like symptoms at the end of Feb, I told myself that there would be no better time to quit since I already felt like s***.  I finished my last dip on Feb 28 at 8:00 PM and haven't looked back since.

  2. The Washington Post The Arctic Ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from Consulafft, at Bergen , Norway. Reports from fishermen, seal hunters, and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of temperatures in the Arctic zone. Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes. Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm. Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared. Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds. Within a few years it is predicted that due to the ice melt the sea will rise and make most coastal cities uninhabitable. * * * * * * * * * I apologize, I neglected to mention that this report was from November 2, 1922, as reported by the AP and published in The Washington Post - 90+ years ago.

  4. The holster plays a part in it too, like the time a TGO friend scorched his britches, and damn near butt-shot himself with his M&P. If y'all don't remember, he forgot to remove his finger from the trigger, and shoved the gun into his holster. The part of the holster that covers the trigger was the final component that caused the discharge, and the scorched hole on his britches.   If something is inside the trigger guard when you holster the weapon, it could go bang. The best way to avoid it is to pay attention.

  5. I have a feeling that for every "I won't buy from Bud's" post in this thread they will have twenty in store customers that hadn't bought from them in the past.   Bud's won't be hurting. They may do a lot of internet business. But every time I have been in their store it is packed. I have a feeling that the brick and mortar side of the business does really well too.   I also find it hilarious for the amount of chest thumping American Pride we have here that folks are so loathe to pay taxes, yet I am certain you spew venom out the other side of your mouth about lazy welfare recipients who don't pay taxes.

  7. So I wasn't the only one thinking this. I thought, "Man, that must be a ROUGH part of town and they MUST be on a first name basis with the area's responding officers." Would it be sorta like Ralph and Sam, something just nonchalant that's an every day thing, hahaha.

  9. What does the thug's age have to do with anything?   If I'm in imminent danger of being killed or serious physical harm then I'm going to stop the threat with deadly force - what age the perpetrator happens to be is immaterial...whether he's 10 years old or 110.

I would have too, even though there is a huge chance it fell off days apart from this half and God knows where that happened. Be nice if he was able to get this deer next year. But if he does it from his back porch in his pajamas while stepping out for a smoke, I'm gonna kick him in the nuts after I unfreeze after coming out of the woods

  18. After looking at the truck you may want to spend some extra time looking at under carriage. People don't put those kind of tires on a truck like that unless they are going to do some serious off roading. I had tires like that on my old Dodge Ram Charger except about two sizes bigger and also had 6 inch lift kit on it but I had it for some serious off road fun back in my younger days. Just be on safe side and look her over good before taking it home.............jmho

  20. The School Resource Officer here told the other day that if a person took something like a video game controller (that looks like a gun) to school the could actually be charged the same as if they had took a real gun to school.   Zero Tolerance is out of control.   Zero tolerance is the modern term used the same way as I was only following orders.   Zero tolerance removes all responsibility to make decision at a local level and replaces with a predetermined response.  One size does not fit all.

  21. I too have always been a Ford guy, but I had owned examples of all domestic trucks over the years.  A few months ago I bought an '04 Tundra crew cab.  Same reasons as you, family.  I don't ever see myself going back to a domestic truck.  Mine had a little less than 130K on it but it is tight.  Way tighter than any Ford I've seen with that mileage.  I love everything about my Tundra except the gas mileage leaves a little to be desired.  But it drives great and has plenty of power, tows good to and is comfortable even in the back seat.  There is something lacking though, it just doesn't have "truck character" to me, not like my old F-150 did.  It just seems more like a car with a bed, that has its good side too though.

  23.   I was looking for a Ford when I found my Tundra too. I assumed the Ford would be less expensive, but for the options I wanted I couldn't find a Ford anywhere close to the price. After I bought the Tundra a mechanic friend of mine, who is also a TGO member said I made the right choice. He said he sees way too many of the (I think) 5.4L F150s in his shop. As with all things car related, YMMV. I, however, am forever a Toyota man now. At least when it comes to trucks.

  24. I'm not suggesting that we return to the exact same methods as I think, as a society, we can address such issues in a more humane fashion. However, I think the basic concepts should be followed.   CONCUR!!!   Not sure when it happened, but when we allowed guv'mint to fill the role  of our brother's keeper and legislate common-sense, the nation started down the slippery slope.

It's worse than 3 inchers.   Even the Mosinites in the crew declined to shoot it more than once. I relegated it to "use only if SHTF and all other buckshot is expended" status myself.   - OS

  26. I think that fact that "he wont' go away" has as much to to with the news outlets (and people who refuse to let it drop) as it does Zimmerman himself. He's probably just trying to generate some income but I suspect almost everything he does is going to generate a "news story" and then someone will post it here. ;) As you noted above, except for the attempt to make this a "race" killing Zimmerman and Martin would have been quickly forgotten after the trial (assuming it ever got to be national news in the first place).

  30.   He could have an IQ of 25  or 250, does not matter. its his lawyer that will figure out the defense strategy.  Which depends on what evidence they have (we do not know!) -- whether he actually did it, whether it is all circumstantial,  etc.     I am sure her brother beats himself up more than anyone else ever could over not checking up.   But really, I might not have either.  If my sister went off into the woods with a guy, I would just assume they wanted privacy, ya know?  If she were in trouble, she would YELL or something!     If this guy did it I hope they prove it and either execute or lock him away for life.

  39. I think most of it is everyone is looking for great deals and when they find one they get excited and don't do their homework and they end up out the money and nothing to show for it but a bunch of fake emails. I remembered my friend telling me that he called a number and let a message and got a phone call back. I called him and asked him for the areas code he called because these people selling the truck in the beginning show on Craigslist as being in Owensboro KY. Then the next email said that they had moved to Bluff City Montana to a new job and a new start after their son was killed and it was his truck yet the ad was only two days old. Then this lady said that Ebay had the truck stored and will deliver it when the deal is made. Ok back to the phone numbers. I checked the area code for Big Bluff Montana and it was 735. The number he called was an 805 area code which I ran and it tuned out to be in Fresno, California to leave his first message. The call he got from her in response to his message was from 632 area code which is in Texas. That told him right there is was a scam being run by disposable phones being bought all over the country. Then when he got the fake eBay paper work we printed it all off and sent it to eBay Security Department and they said they will follow up on it. The man I spoke with at eBay sounded very upset that they were using eBay in the scam. Gave them all the information we had including areas codes. I do hope they catch them but chances are they have moved on to a new sucker with new phones and new information................jmho

  43.       I am a 26 year commercial pilot with many many many thousands of hours in the left seat. I haven't flown international in years but I'm 99% sure even off our coasts there is zero GPS type "tracking" that all tracking/ positioning is plotted by pilot induced position reports over the Sat Com.  Now, most other countries outside of the US and Europe, they don't have jack for modern ground technology when it comes to radios, radar or radar coverage.    I just ask a buddy of mine that flies captain on a 767 for Continental and he hasn't got back to me but I'd bet my paycheck US carriers don't use this technology and I guarantee third world countries don't have tracking.

  47. Dustbuster, I totally agree on the two missing girls you mentioned. I hope they will be found alive & well. And it's not impossible that they will. Look at the three girls in leveland that had been held captive for years. Another case that bothered me for decades was the Marcia Trimble case. Had no connection to it whatsoever, but weighed on me until the perp was caught 25yrs later. Holly Bobos case bothered me the same way. Had to be someone close to know their way around there. Also thought it strange the brother didn't do more than he did. Case is still under investigation.
