4. But reality doesn't back up your theory....   Citizens varying from no training (most people) to a lot of training are 5 times less likely to kill an innocent person in a justified self defense shooting than a police officer which we know has a lot more training than your average citizen.   The entire point of carrying a gun is that it requires little to no training for an individual to protect themselves...   If you were right, where is all the innocent people getting killed in the 30 states that allow unlicensed open carry?   I think people should get training, it's a good idea...  one that I strongly recommend when somebody asks me about getting a firearm...  but I don't think it's the governments business to make people get training...  I'm just not concerned about getting shot and killed by a good guy with a gun...  Government officials with sovereign immunity on the other hand terrify me.

 6. Around 9 o'clock last night the power went out as the wife was heating up some noodles on the stove. It was a rolling blackout or, more likely, some drunken driver hit a pole. Three hours later the juice was still off so there wasn't much to stay up for. I finally drifted off after 30 minutes, but just dozing. At about 2 a.m. I was awakened to the alarming voice of the wife saying, "Oh, my God!.....Oh, my God!" I instinctively knew she wasn't talking to me. Turns out the noodle pot was left on the electric burner. When the power was restored, the water boiled off and the noodles started to burn. Smoke filled the kitchen pretty quickly and she just happened to wake up at the right time. As it says in the Psalms, "He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep." I'm thankful that He kept an eye peeled on our house, too.

 7. QUESTION: Where do the threads go when they are deleted?    1) The Catholic's approach to deleted threads: The nice threads go to thread heaven, where life is good. The threads are bathed in the light of happiness, all their troubles are soothed, and there's not a delete thread button in sight. Most of the nice threads are A's and I's, those that have never been, er, involved with other threads. Often, you'll see A's or I's with N's or T's. These are threads in love: monogamous on the page, together again after deletion. You'll see quite a few Q's too. They seem to feel particularly guilty for no good reason. The naughty threads are punished for their sins. In case you were wondering what the difference between a nice thread and a naughty thread is, I'll tell you. Naughty threads are those involved in the creation of naughty words, such as "breast," "sex," "objectivity," and depending upon usage, words such as "feminism," "reproductive freedom," "contraception," and "science." You may ask, and rightly so, why the threads are blamed for the words they assemble, when in fact they are not responsible for their own configuration. But we feel that a thread has an obligation to oppose any naughtiness in its own configuration. If it truly felt guilty about the word it was forming, it would rebel. --------------------------------- 2) The Buddhist Explanation: If a thread has lived rightly, and its karma is good, then after it has been deleted it will be reincarnated as a different, higher thread. Those funny characters above the numbers on your keyboard will become numbers, numbers will become letters, lower-case letters will become upper-case, and the most righteous and good of letters will become C's. Why C, you ask? Who knows, but C it is! If a thread's karma is not so good, then it will move down the above scale, ultimately becoming the lowest of characters, a space. -------------------------------------- 3) The 20th Century bitter cynical nihilist explanation: Who cares? All threads are the same, swirling in a vast sea of meaningless nothingness. It doesn't really matter if they're on the page, deleted, undeleted, underlined, etc. It's all the same. More threads should delete themselves. (nihilist threads are easy to identify. They're usually pale and tragic, and they smoke a lot.) -------------------------------------- 4) The Mac user's explanation: All the threads written on a PC and then deleted go straight to PC hell. If you're using a PC, you can probably see the deleted threads, because you're in PC hell also. -------------------------------------- 5) Stephen King's explanation: Every time you hit the key you unleash a tiny monster inside the cursor, who tears the poor unsuspecting threads to shreds, drinks their blood, then eats them, bones and all. Hah, hah, hah! ------------------------------------- 6) Dave Barry's explanation: The deleted threads are shipped to Battle Creek, Michigan, where they're made into Pop-Tart filling; this explains why Pop-Tarts are so flammable, while cheap imitations are not as flammable. I'm not making any of this up. ------------------------------------- 7) IBM's explanation: The threads are not real. They exist only on the screen when they are needed, as concepts, so to delete them is merely to de-conceptualize them. Get a life. ------------------------------------- 8) Environmentalist's Explanation: You've been DELETING them???? Can't you hear them SCREAMING??? Why don't you go CLUB some BABY SEALS while wearing a MINK, you pig!!!!

 11.   That's on the individual though.  If they don't want a permit then that is their business.  I think we can look at other states which have permitless open carry and vehicle carry as examples of systems that work just fine.  People still get permits who wish to travel out of state.  Honestly, while I support Constitutional carry, I have no problem with keeping a permit system for the purpose of carrying in other states, and I support those other states to have their own laws governing carry.  I don't live there so it isn't my business to say otherwise.

 14. Everyone makes mistakes, good mechanics fess up when they do. I fail to understand how the car left the service bay with missing parts. When I think I'm done working on the car, the first thing I do is look around for stuff that I might have forgotten to reinstall. At the end of the day, the mechanic should be cleaning up his work area and found the parts. He should have told his boss immediately, who should have called the customer immediately. Sure, that's a bit embarrassing but it's better a lot better than the customer finding it days later.

 19. Sorry for such a long delay, but I finally installed the truck holster. Even with removing the panel (5 or 6 screws), the project too only 30 minutes, give or take. Not bad at all. As I put some thought into how I was going to install the holster, I was slightly concerned that, over time, the plastic panel would begin to crack from the pressures of continually inserting and removing the firearm. As luck would have it, that panel is almost completely backed with metal reinforcement. Who knew? Three of the four bolts go through both the plastic panel and metal backing. That thing isn't going anywhere. Because I have large/fat hands, along with the curvature of the panel, I had to use 1 inch spacers on the left side, and 1 1/2" spacers on the right. This allows enough space for me to get a comfortable hold on the grip. Also, even being big and tall, there is no way my legs would ever come in contact with the holster. I tried moving every which way, and I couldn't even get close. This is in a 2002 F-150 XLT. I tried to come up with an alternative location to install the holster, but this was about as good as it was going to get. I know a couple people who've been using those Gum Creek holsters for a few years, and they haven't experienced any issues. We shall see.

 21. I go around and around in my head with this issue myself...I've hunted with a firearm since I was big enough to fire a 410 shotgun...I've owned my own 12ga since I was 12 (and I think it was still legal then :) )...I've owned and do own many firearms and I believe in training and try to do at least two major classes per year as well as my own training regiment. I really DO understand how important it is for someone to KNOW how to use a firearm properly and safely and how dangerous a person can be to themselves and other innocent people if they DON'T KNOW.   HOWEVER...   I ALSO believe that people have a basic, natural/God-given right to carry ARMS for their own protection and for the protection of other innocents...that includes but is not limited to firearms. Our Constitution recognizes and protects that right and there is nothing in our Constitution that requires "training" to bear arms any more than the Constitution requires a certain level of IQ and/or education before being allowed to exercise (or not exercise) their chosen religion or to engage in free speech. So...I am left to conclude that "permit-less" carry is what our Constitution demands and that ALL laws restricting the right to keep and bear arms IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

 23. ANSWER: The fine folks at S&W Forum said it's a .38 Military & Police model of 1899, which was produced from 1899 to 1901. An elderly friend of my Father's is asking for some information about this revolver. It appears to be an early Smith & Wesson .38 Special, but that's all I know. She's trying to determine the exact model and approximate value. She is working on getting me better photos. The serial number is either 11300 or 11800.

 24. TG, the AK is not a difficult weapon to put together IF you know the basics.  Not trying to sound condescending but I sincerly hope the super glue comment was a joke! ;o)   But seriously, based on some of the questions you're asking I'd suggest surfing some of the AK specialized boards and reading all you can.  Nothing wrong with wanting to assemble the weapon yourself and there's a ton of information floating around out there where folks have done just that.  The way I see it, you have plenty of time so I'd highly suggest getting more familiar with things and then ask the final details of what doesn't make sense maybe... read and re-read... you can take a nice kit and be throwing it in the trash a few hrs later if you're not careful.    From reading your post, I assume you've purchased a kit.  Also assume you have a receiver and all parts ready to assemble.  Finally assume you have filed a form 1 to make this legal and the post is leading towards what can be done in the interim of now and the time until the stamp comes back.   You have a couple of options.  Some you've kinda stumbled on already ..   1), Not sure the length of barrel in your kit but if it's less than 16", you could have a smith pin and weld a compensator/extention on the barrel to bring it to 16".  You can then assemble the kit with the stock and shoot until your stamp comes back. Then remove the pin and comp/extension and put your final compensator on it (may have/choose to have a smith do this too)   2) IF the receiver is virgin, meaning it's never been built into anything and/or it was built into a pistol when you bought it, you can assemble the parts kit in pistol form.  The stock piece is iffy to me ... Some will argue and NO I have not personally talked to the ATF myself but I'd have some concern over having a stock readily accessible or having a stock-ready rear trunion .. that's just me ... I see folks with AR stock tubes on their pistols all the time.. me, I'd feel better with a tube or portion that wouldn't simply take a shouldered stock piece easily .. to each his own.  All the AK pistols I've seen or worked on have had full stock rear trunions with the rear tab ground off so you can't bolt a stock back on.    3) If you don't want to build this yourself, you have plently of time to work out the details with a competent smith and them be ready to jump on things when your stamp does come in.  While they're not my speciality, I've built a handful of AKs in a matter of a good afternoon or two... took longer to parkerize and cerakote them than the build... To build them properly/factory, there are a handful of specialized tools you're going to have to buy or make.  Things can get pricey or time consuming if you're only doing a single build.     Factory AKs are riveted together.... you'll need to make some rivet jigs as (most) of the rivets are impossible to get to without a jig or make-shift tool... they can be a real PITA to get to.... in fact, many first time builders will use screws and bolts if they don't have the capacity to do rivets.    To answer your last question more directly though, the trunion on a AK style platform has to be riveted/bolted to the receiver BEFORE you press in the barrel.  There's several rivets that get seated and the barrel goes over top of them making it impossible to do in the reverse order.  If you're doing this yourself at minimum you're going to need access to a Shop Press to press the barrel into the trunion.  If you rivet, you're going to need an AK rivet jig for the front trunion and trigger guard rivets.... there are ways to build single use rivet tools that will suffice for the home user / builder.  A set of go/no go gauges are highly recommended (I've seen barrels and trunions sold as headspaced but be dangerously off).  Then, I'm guessing you have a receiver already??? If you're bending your own receiver from a flat, you're going to need an AK receiver flat jig...    I realy hate to post like this and then leave but I'll be out of the country starting tomorrow until the 26th... when I get back I'd be more than happy to talk to you about the build process and point you in the right direction, offer any help I can verbally and/or up to performing any smithing you'd like me to do for you. They can be very fun rifles to put together and can be very forgiving with tolerances and such but they're not as easy as assembling an AR or some other weapons.    Good luck!

 25. Parksville Lake at Greasy Creek is some respectable Crappie fishing. Grasshopper Lake, also. I recommend a light jig head with a red top and chartreuse body. Find the appropriate depth and fish it under a floater on an ultra light rig. When retrieving, "pop" the float a couple of times, reel up the slack and repeat. This gets the jig "swinging" under the float and the crappie (and just about everything else) love it. Especially around stump beds, fallen trees, and other structure. Good luck!

 27. Don't dismiss the .38 +P loads, or even plain old vanilla .38 HP for home defense.  They've saved many a home owners' bacon over the decades they've been around.  Easier on the ears, too.

 29. For home defense I would steer you towards any brand name .38+p jacketed hollow point. .357 is loud and will produce a good bit of flash, not necessarily the best choice if you have to use your handgun in a dark room at 2am. For plinking and target I look for the cheapest 130gr. .38 special metal case/full metal jacket. I also like the mag tech 158gr .38spl lead round nose which has a comparable price point.

 30. This will likely be because of the way the phone samples the image. Probably from left-to-right so the gun moves in the meantime (it's certainly not bending that much).   You will not catch the bullet. It will not be in frame long enough for enough photons to strike the lens. I started looking into bullet photography a while back and have about 50% of the parts to put a rig together. Short burst, high intensity light and strict timing are necessary and even then, it's hard to get some of the higher velocity rounds clear with consumer equipment.

 40. I walked into Academy this morning about 15 minutes after they opened. As I wished the greeter a good morning my eyes rested on what appeared to be ammo....22 AMMO...!!!  So, I did this  :stunned: and they were still there. So I headed that way like a dog after a soup bone. There were 3 other guys headed that way and I  :panic:  and picked up my pace...the race was on!!! I managed 3rd place in the race and I saw 4 boxes of 525 round Remington and maybe 50 boxes of some other brand I'm not familiar with. But then I thought....what is the limit???  Well the lady told the first two guys who were together they could buy 1 of the bricks or 10 boxes of the other (It think that's what she said. I am pretty deaf). They began a long discussion about which was the better ammo and this went on for what seemed an eternity but was actually only a minute or so. I became very  :bored:  :waiting: with this and began to feel that  :panic: feeling again so I asked one of the ladies if I could go ahead and purchase one of the bricks. Well the sales people were looking at them both like this  :shake: and this  :grouchy:.  She was very glad to hand me a box and get the ball rolling. i paid and  I was instantly feeling  :biglol:  :hyper:   , took my brick and headed to fishing dept and got some hair jigs. But I suppose the jigs can wait.  It's off to the range with my buckmark, my walther P22, and my new CZ 452...!!!! Like the song goes...."Life is good today..."   THE END.

So, we are ok with someone with no child handling experience produce a child?  That person will get themselves (or worse someone else) hurt/ aborted.  I agree that parenting rights shouldn't be limited but I also think people need to prove they have adequate knowledge to PRODUCE a child. Just having the plumbing doesn't help anybody.  Come up with a way that keeps our freedoms free, but requires sufficient training to produce a child and then you have my vote.  You have to keep the irresponsible and uneducated from just strapping on a woody and feeling empowered and then trying to use.
