  1. We just ate the last quart of last year's tomatoes...new crop is yellow on the way to red. My wife wanted to make sure we have enough this year so we have 24 plants. We may not have to plant next year! Beans, yellow squash and zucchini producing, should have peppers within the week, okra a and corn not too far behind. I love free fresh food!

  3. I've been ordering more and more from Brownells and PSA. Joeboboutfitter is great too. They must have figured out Time travel over there at JBO. I swear its like they receive my order, go back in time to the day before and ship it out before I even know I'm buying anything. All that said I love midway, they have a great selection, good sales from time to time, and I think their house brand AR Stoner parts are great for the money from what I've seen. I wish they would bring back C&R pricing, but I'm glad it won't take me an hour of shuffling items in and out of cart just to make the most sense out of shipping. Although that was kind of fun, cheap thrills and all.

  4.   You are right but I think this guy's perspective also has to be considered.  People probably look at him as a paranoid guy who thinks the government is coming after him - except that it turns out that he wasn't so paranoid and the government really was coming after him.  If a person's greatest fear is of being bitten by a snake then if they open their front door and see a bunch of snakes crawling around on the ground then they probably aren't going to rationally stand there and try to figure out if any of the snakes are venomous - they are going to run.  In that same vein, i wouldn't be surprised if the feds wanted this guy to either start shooting or run so that they could play this non-event of a case for all it is worth and create a reason to arrest him even if they really had no reason to arrest him.

  5. Stopped in my LGS to pickup a grip plug for one of my Glocks and somehow walked out with an S&W 637 Airweight. I'm not much of a revolver guy but I figured it'll be a good pocket gun for the summer. And hell, everybody needs a J frame.

  6. Just a quick shout out to Spiffy for his performance at the Carolina Cup IDPA Championship this past weekend.   The Spiffster finished in 3rd place in his classification - Marksman Enhanced Service Pistol.    Congrats Sir! Good Shooting!

  8. If you're shooting something that will blow through 5ft of dirt, be sure to invite me over to watch! Even .50bmg will only go in a couple feet.

  9. We talked about this one a little bit in the Blade Show discussion. A couple of us who were lucky enough to go to Blade had the opportunity to meet Jeff Axelson, the brother of Matt Axelson from Lone Survivor. Jeff has a company called Axelson Tactical who in conjunction with Busse Combat produced the Axehammer tribute knife. I ordered mine at Blade and had it in hand less than a week later. It is typical Busse quality, that is to say indestructible. The knife is INFI steel and is 12" overall length. It has a sage coating and G-10 scales. The sheath is made by David Brown and has the Axelson Tactical logo on it. I really had no need for another knife in this size range but I thought the story and history behind it were cool enough to pick one up.

  15. Keep the 640. You'll regret selling or trading it. Save up money and buy the 642 (or 442) when you can. Then transition the 640 to an IWB or small of back carry. You can New York reload when the opportunity permits. Speed loaders are interchangeable and most holsters will accommodate the extra barrel length. You can never have enough revolvers, even if they seem like duplicates!

  16. I carried a model 36 (all steel) in an ankle holster for years; you get use to it. Just make sure its snug against the leg and not flopping around.

  18.   It's not that they know just by running your plate... Running your plate tells them who the car is registered to... If they then run your name then any particulars come up...   Or at least that was my understanding of how it was done in MI and I do not claim to know much about TN yet...

  20.   You miss the point. The example on the 4473, and the question itself is not in the federal code. It's a made up rule, not based on written law.   That was Scalia's point. And mine.   - OS

  21. From what I can recall that is how all the old money looked. Counterfeit pens will not work on them. I remember when they started putting the strips in the old hundreds. I think all the bills today look more fake than the old stuff.

  26. You can not go wrong with either caliber. Initially you could buy 9mm barrels to drop in the .40's but S&W stopped selling them. I bet the aftermarket will respond soon with 9mm barrels for them if you really want a 9mm. For now enjoy the large availability of .40S &W ammo.

  33.   True. But with modern materials and manufacturing methods, we are getting an awful lot closer. We're not there yet though which is why I think government should stay out of it and not be picking winners.

  35. Without looking it up, if my memory is close to right, It was produced in the early 90's and thru the decade. Seem like around 10,000 were manufactured. It's an interesting revolver. Very accurate, but a surprising amount of recoil for a 9mm. And it really, really doesn't like to be shot dirty, or have a cheap dirty powder cartridge used in it. At least mine doesn't. Twenty rounds or so and it needs at least wiping down the cyclinder face and crane or it will get very tight and gritty feeling.

  36. Not sure if serious...   Ok, saw new replies. Was serious.   That appears to be a legit 10 dollar bill. 1950 series B. They probably tried a counterfeit marking pen on it, which won't work properly on old paper money like this. If the material feels right, I'd say it's likely legit, and has been sitting in someone's drawer/mason jar for the past 60 some odd years.   Hang on to it just because it's a cool old piece of currency. Or spend it somewhere that people aren't all trusting of the iodine marking pens.

  37. Personally, I think he was very smart to slip away and turn himself in after the fact. Considering the subject of the warrant and what they were looking for, I doubt very seriously it started with a polite knock on the door followed by a "sir, can you come out? This is the FBI and we have a warrant to search your property if you would be so kind to open the door." No, they went in with the SWAT team on a dynamic entry. Considering the high mortality rates of the subjects of these types of raids by the murderers in the FBI, I'm not sticking around to get murdered in my own home. At least not if I am planning to live through the encounter. I'll slip away and turn myself in later when it can be done peacefully, and publicly. If I'm sticking around for the initial event it's because I'm not planning on seeing the next sunrise.

  41. Like all new washing machines it's an electronic piece of crap. Hope you bought the extended warranty. I have a Maytag that's been fixed 6 times.   Sounds like it might be some sort of electronic coupling device gone bad. Everything on the new ones is electronic.

  42.   I'm afraid that none of your interpretation is correct. Federally, it is:   - still perfectly legal to buy a firearm as a gift for anyone not prohibited from ownership (is example on 4473 itself) - still perfectly legal to sell to non-prohibited same state resident in private transaction   - OS

  44. As far as I'm concerned one of the primary responsibilities at a wedding, in an ancient sense, is to protect the Bride. That's what the Groomsmen especially and the Ushers are for. Being armed in defense of the Bride is . . . well, noble.    If the guy was noticing the threat scenario and bringing it to the attention of the families involved in the marriage, then his goal was also to protect the Bride.   IMO

  45.   I'd be trying too. I'm all about paying as little as I can for your stuff. If you agree to it, then it's a good deal for both of us. Ain't capitalism grand? ;)
    1 point
  46. Maybe the guy was an ex of the bride and was looking for a chance to take out the guy that stole her from him. Happens all the time at weddings :). I guess I am just nieve but I just do not find myself looking/caring if someone else is armed. I think there are many better indications of someone with bad intentions than the the fact that someone Is carrying a concealed weapon. If anything I am thinking good I may have some backup if the need arises.

  47. It was concealed, so I lean toward dick move especially if he works at a gun store.  Unless you were drinking, then I would probably bring it up as well.  Otherwise, it doesn't get a second thought.  I am guessing he was just trying to impress someone with his eagle eyes.
