I prefer the TGO series for gun stories. We've got stuff here that ranges from people making fun of others for accidental discharges, then blowing holes in their roofs doing the same. Modifying weapons to the extreme, and also how to make an AK47 pistol look like a toy gun. Engineering to the likes of using scrap metal to build parts all the way to making your own gunpowder for reloading and making knives from scratch. The TGO documentary is way better than anything that could ever be shown on TV :up:5 points

I have killed probably over 100 deer in my life because our ranch was full of them so getting one was not really a hunt but more and evening or morning walk through the woods. Well, I had not hunted in about 6 years during the time I was dedicating to my son after his accident and because I was never a trophy hunter I seldom took a big deer because smaller ones tasted better and we more tender so choice of 10 point or spike and I would shoot the spike. Anyway after my son passed away my youngest son asked me to go hunting with his down on his place. I didn't think that much about it but since I had not spent much time with him because his brother required most of my time for 5 years I agreed to go just to spend some quality time with him. He kept talking about this 14 pointer he had wandering around on his place that he had been hunting for two years but could never get a good shot at him. We got in the woods early that morning and e put me up in a camo ladder stand and right behind the stand was about 10 Persimmon trees in full fruit and ground was covered. My son was about 350 yards away up in another stand and he was far enough away he could see me through binoculars and about good sunrise I saw a deer slowly approaching me through a thicket. As it got closer my son could also see it and it was the 14 pointer. He just knew I was gonna kill his big buck. I watched as that old man eased up to with in about 25 yards and putting his nose in the air I new he scented me. He came about 10 yards closer and nosed the air again and then all at once he just looked up at me and we stared at each other for about a good minute or two. He moved even closer and was probably 25 feet from the tree when he stopped that last time and looked up at me. Then he preceded to go eat his fill of Persimmons and was joined by 3 does. After he ate his fill and he and his ladies left the same way they came it was getting close to mid morning when my son came over to meet up with me and walk back to the house. On the walk back my son said "Dad, I think you need to get new glasses," in a joking way. I said "why son, because you don't think I saw that 14 pointer walk under the stand and eat fruits". He said "why didn't you take him?" and I said "son you know I am not a trophy hunter and I know that you want that deer so he is still here waiting for you to bag him.".............. In all honesty I don't think I would have shot a spike that morning. I watched my oldest Son fight for life and every breath for 5 years and to take somethings life for sport and of course food I didn't know if I would ever be able to hunt again and to this day I have not. I'm sure if it came to food or starvation I could hunt and kill but that is what it would take. As for anyone else I say go for it and enjoy it as I did for many years. My son still does it when he can find time and if he bags one I always get some deer burger which is all I want from one. I can do a lot with burger. I use to have 4 or 5 folks that gave me deer burger and a few guys gave me whole deer if I paid for the processing which I would get the back strips and Tenderloins out and maybe 1 or two roasts and the rest burger. I don't get much deer meat any more these days. Part of that is because a few of my old friends have quit hunting and others don't kill as many because you cannot find many folks processing deer anymore and if you do you can't afford them. I use to pay 50.00 to get one processed then it went to $60.00. Last year I had a guy give me a deer and I am glad it was a big deer and got is processed into Burger except for the Tenderloins and back Strip and it cost me $95.00. If it had been a small deer it would have ended up costing me more for deer burger the hamburger in stores. A lot of processors have either got to high for people to pay or shut down. I know a lot of guys now are taking their deer up to the mini nites and having deer summer sausage made and some have their make the deer jerky and when they get it home they vacuum seal the jerky............... :up:3 points

My son and I finally made it to the range to shoot the AR pistol we built using the TGO lower - most fun I think we've ever had shooting! It worked flawlessly, and was surprisingly accurate for only a 7.5 inch barrel. It was REALLY LOUD! Now I have to buy more ammo. We added a Sig Brace after taking this pic - made it much more comfortable to shoot.2 points

My son, who is a Senior this year called a little while ago to tell me about his day today. My son is in the JROTC program at his high school. Today they had an assembly to meet and greet two MOH recipients from the Vietnam War. If I understood him correctly via long distance cell call, he met two gentlemen by the name of USMC Vargas and US Army Fritz. Both gave speeches and took the time to meet and greet the Cadets. It was apparently covered by a television station so he is watching the news for a glimpse of himself.2 points

Well, not fun but I can laugh about it now. I joined the military out of Denver, CO so hunted mulies and elk. When I started hunting at my first permanent duty station at Ft Bragg, NC. I was recommended a 30/30 so went with it. My first few outings I let a few 8 pointers go by because I thought they were too small. My buddies laughed their butts off when I told them and they clued me in on easter whitetails and the rest is history.2 points

Some of you may remember me being back and forth between a Muddy Outdoors Hunter Lock-On stand and the Millennium Monster Lock-On Stand. So being curious and indecisive has led me to purchase both stands and to find out which one I enjoy the most...and likely buy more of. Just like guns, or sleeping bags, or cars...if you want to "get" something, you have to "give" something. You will see my comparisons below. Let me first start off with a little bonus review of Safety Harnesses: Muddy Safeguard Harness vs Hunter Safety System Harness: Clear Winner is the Muddy Harness Let me tell you just straight up, if you are in the market for a new harness, get the Muddy, hands down. It is the best value, best design, and so light weight that you forget you are wearing it. The lineman's belt on the Muddy is SO much more user friendly than the lineman's belt on the Hunter Safety System. Also, my cousin who helped me install the stands, he has the HSS Harness, asked me if he put it on property. Upon inspection, he had one of his leg harnesses flipped inside out and he didn't know. There is no way you can make that mistake w/ the Muddy Safeguard Harness. So take my word for it, color me impressed with the Muddy, thats what you need to buy. Tree Stands Weight: Muddy It is very light weight at 14lbs vs the Monster at 19.5lbs. Now 5.5lbs doesn't seem like a whole lot when you are on the ground, but when you are dangling up in a tree it seems quite heavy. However, I found both stands to be quite manageable...and I'm not exactly strong either. Ease of Assembly: Monster. The monster came mostly assembled but some of the tolerances were very tight which made it difficult to do by yourself. The Muddy had lots of screws, washers and nuts and came completely disassembled. So while I gave the "ease" of assembly award to the Monster, neither are difficult at all, the Muddy will just take a few extra minutes. The instructions from both manufacturers were a little cryptic, diagrams were not clear about what washer or what screw to use necessarily, but you figure it out well enough. Ease of Installation: Monster. The Monster comes with this one bracket that you hang up first, prior to lifting the stand off the ground and up the tree. The back of the Monster has this "blade" that slides into the bracket that you just installed, making it SUPER easy and quick. Remember how this stand is heavier? Well with this design, you don't have to hang on to it very long. Another big advantage of this bracket system is the ability to buy more brackets. They are only like $25 and you can hang them in multiple trees, making it even more simple to move the stand around. Once you have the Monster installed into the bracket, there is an additional ratchet strap that secures the lower platform firmly to the tree making the base fairly solid. If I had one complaint about the Monster, its that the base is shakier than the Muddy. However, with the strap installed nice and tight, I never felt unsteady or unsafe, so its really not a big deal. The Muddy requires to ratchet straps to secure the stand to the tree. It can be quite cumbersome to hold up the stand with one hand and to somehow, throw the ratchet strap behind the tree, catch it, and secure it to the stand. Now, with practice, I don't really see it as that big of a deal. This was my first time installing lock on stands, so it was all new to me and I learned a few little tricks after getting up there and actually installing them. One thing that was nice though was since I was having to hold the stand up longer, I was glad it only weighed 14 lbs. So that helps Ease of Adjustability: Muddy. Adjustability is a big reason why I have chosen these two stands. They less expensive stands don't offer adjustability. . Both manufacturers recommend adjusting before you climb up the tree, but just how realistic is that all the time? Once you are up there, if you need to adjust the platform or the seat, I found the Muddy to be much easier to adjust due to the design and minimal weight. Comfort: Monster. I don't think you can look at the pictures of these two stands and have a hard time figuring out which one is more comfortable. The sling style seat with the back brace of the Monster is what I would consider "all-day comfort". The Muddy was quite comfortable as well and in fact, I never found it uncomfortable, it actually surprised me. The padding is very thick and wide, but if you were going to have a sitting contest between these two stands, the Monster would win. Hunt-ability: Muddy While there is a direct correlation between stand comfort and seeing deer, I have chosen the Muddy as being the most huntable for this reason: Size. The Monster....is huge. Your silhouette/profile is nearly twice what it is w/ the Muddy. The good news is that both seats fold up allowing the hunter to scoot back to the tree, but you are going to be much less concealed standing up and shooting from the Monster as you would the Muddy. Accessories: Monster Both stands include a foot rest which is really nice, but the Monster includes a set of backpack straps, already installed on the stand. You can get backpack straps for the Muddy but you will have to buy separately. The Monster is about $50 more than the Muddy though, so I wouldn't let the backpack straps sway you from making one decision or the other. So which stand will I buy more of? I have no idea! Both are top tier tree stands and I am looking forward to logging my hours in each one. Hopefully after a few down deer, I will have a better idea of what I will by next. Hope these reviews help you make your own decision!1 point
I'd be predisposed to return a no-bill on that indictment if I was on the grand jury, not that I think it would ever make it to a grand jury. Because of his history, I would expect LE agencies in the area to familiarize their officers with him, but I wouldn't expect the average person to have any idea who this ####nut is. While I really do hate what he is doing, I don't wish harm to come to him. I just expect it to happen eventually. My prior "defense" of him had nothing to do with him or his actions and everything to do with the blatant malfeasance of the government in handling his shenanigans. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Yeah, and is why I don't believe it will be an LEO who shoots him. I'm sure every LEO in mid-TN has been briefed on this idiot. However, the two million or so HCP holders haven't, and when he decides to start slinging his rifle on the front and yelling obscenities in a threatening manner, someone is going to mistake him for an active shooter. I really can't see the courts allowing this to continue. It's 50/50 for the folks who made these guns but ok, even if a few trickle back in.. you can bet you butt IF they stay approved they'll never be transferable so good job for the few who beat the system. They will (looks like they have) stop approving them. You can also bet you fanny those folks will probably be watched like a hawk and the second they light up a cigarette in a no-smoking zone will probably be picked up and hassled. How I see it, a trust is not a person but on the same token a person is not a trust. Yet it is a person who "makes" the machinegun which after May, 1986 can only be done for use by a governmental agency. A trust cannot make anything, it can only be the recipient of property. I think you'll see the ATF push this fact pretty heavily. I also agree with John.. I know folks with $100K of transferables who would gladly see their guns back worth nothing in a heartbeat to get the 1986 law reversed and MGs allowed again. Will be an interesting set of events to follow.1 point

It does have the German cross decals for it. I understand why the Germans don't want to display the swastika and I'm not going to go through all the trouble to order the aftermarket decals from Amazon for $8.00. I guess I'll just try to enjoy putting the plane together and remind myself of my childhood. We would put these planes together, hang them in our rooms and when we got tired of them we would light them on fire and shoot them with our BB guns. Good times.1 point

Did you get yours yet? I am about to order mine. Only thing that worries me is canted rear sight or canted gas block. gas block is an easy fix but the rear sight would be a problem. There is one, that I have found, that was supposedly keyholing. I think it was that specific gun because I cannot find a single other instance of the problem. If you ever get to the Knoxville area you need to shoot my M85. It is a sweet little gun that I absolutely love. If they made the same gun with an 8" barrel I would buy it in a heartbeat. These extra 2"-3" of the M92/M85 keep me from using it as a backpack gun. As soon as I am sure mine is good to goo it will get submitted for a stock. For a stock I will be using an AR style with a folding stock mechanism. Still trying to figure out which hinge. My $90 ACE pushbutton folder is pretty wobbly now so I will never get another ACE product. Stormwerkz gets a lot of positive reviews but it also is pretty soft according to some which means hard use might be out of the question. I really wish someone would make a steel hinge like the Stormwerkz. I will also be adding a rail to the front to add a VFG so I don't accidentally get my hand out in front of the muzzle.1 point

While I cringed at the idea of the government arbitrarily deciding who is too crazy to possess a firearm (in the wake of Newtown), I'd say that a man shouting obscenities in public whilst wielding a rifle for no intended purpose other than to incite panic is something that should be looked at. I don't believe this idiot intends to harm anyone intentionally. I do believe his purpose in life is to stick his finger in the eye of everyone who isn't him, with the intention of satisfying himself and potentially gaining lawsuit material. However, I believe he will continue to ratchet up his antics and be a threat to public safety by causing a reasonable person to fear he is an active shooter. Kinda like walking into a bank with a dozen road flares strapped to your chest, screaming "allah akbar", then claiming it's your First Amendment right to do so. Hopefully when he is shot, he is put down for good and no one else is hurt in the process.1 point

I know I joke about this, but he is going to end up getting shot. I think this idiot is emboldened by recent events and will be mistaken by a HCP holder as an active shooter if he keeps ratcheting it up to see how far he can take it. Has nothing to do with legality; he is a danger to himself and those around him.1 point

Not all that funny but it is the best story that I have. I didn't have much luck my first couple of years of deer hunting. On about my fourth time in the woods I was eleven and was throwing up sick after sitting there for about three hours. My dad and I decided to leave when then out of nowhere three does walked right up to me. I took the first one.1 point

+1. I really do enjoy going to shows, browsing & meeting people (well, most of them anyway ), but my biggest problem is my location. The closest show (Expo) is about 150 miles round trip for me so figure in the cost of gas & then add an entree fee & lunch, it becomes an expensive day & burns up a lot of my spending money. It doesn't help that assholes keep sneaking in loaded firearms & ruining it for the rest of us. One was a vendor that shot himself in the hand with his Kimber .45 & less than a year later a customer shot a hole the wall with a .22 rifle that was for sale. Unless I have another reason to be in Knoxville I've probably attended my last gun show. About 99% of my gun related items, & even a lot of my guns come from online sellers.1 point

That guy on the tape didn't really seem to upset that someone threatened to shoot him, especially someone that had previously shot and killed another person. I am much later than I prefer, but this weekend I plan on hanging my new Muddy and Millennium Lock-On tree stands! I have a few spots picked out and I plan on using a backpack blower to make a clean trail for entry/exit. I know that sounds kinda crazy, BUT, in my experience, it doesn't affect deer patterns if done soon enough. Having a clean path allows perfect silence walking to stand, and even more importantly, perfect silence walking away from stand. It also helps reduce your scent signature. In fact, I've even seen deer use the trail I made! LOL So we will see!1 point

I think the frame IS the gun. That means parts or no parts it has a serial number and is the firearm in the eyes of the batf so I'd be careful on mailing it to someone who is not an ffl.1 point

About 4 months ago went to the WH on Old Hickory Blvd in Hermitage and saw the post at the door. So i walked away and went down to Stewarts Ferry and they had the same sign. I opened the door and asked the manager if they new about the sign and she said no. I told here that she needs to let her boss know that it is driving Law abiding citizens like me across the street to the Cracker Barrel. At that point i went to CB and had a much nicer meal than i would have got at WH. Checked the new WH in Donelson out about a month ago and no sign.1 point

One of the best ways to not get a stolen firearm back is by telling a thief that it is hot. The best hope at getting a stolen firearm back is by the gun getting sold to a pawn or gun shop. Sadly, even when an honest person runs across a stolen object they want to get rid of it and not call the police. Too many times stolen guns get thrown into rivers or stashed away deep somewhere so in case it is really needed. I had an acquaintance call me one time an ask me to run a serial numer. I said yes but I need to have the gun in my hand first because if it is stolen I have to keep it. He replied, "I don't want to loose it". This is not the only time I have seen or heard of things like this happening. If I had a gun taken in a theft I would probably call the police with the serial numbers and then make post indicating that I did not know the serial numbers. I would post that I was willing to pay a reward to get the gun back because I will know it when I see it. Another option is to post a want to buy ad for a stainless LCP and hope that someone tries to contact you with yours. Just ask for the serial prefix when they describe it or send the pictures. Then call your detective if someone wit your LCP contacts you.1 point
