Sounds like "someone" scheduled our untimely death for 11:15 today. It is odd to think we could have been killed at the same time regardless of where we were had my wife not been paying attention. BTW, we bought $30 worth of lottery tickets, we never do, and currently trying to figure out how to cover ourselves in bubble wrap AND AR500 steel plate.5 points

Its a catch 22. Not matter how they handled the situation, it would have seen as a terrible way to handle it by one side. Thats what is happening. A nice and big schism dividing the country. Blame the president all you want, but he isnt the one sole responsible party for all these problems. Its everyone.3 points

This is one of those attacks that could be accomplished by well trained, disciplined terrorists. The reason why there isn't such a concern from home grown terrorist groups is because that attracts people of a certain personality, who really don't believe in a cause; they're just looking for a legitimate outlet for violence. Folks like that suck at opsec and keep getting caught. The ones we have to worry about are the ones being recruited and trained in ISIS held territory. Anyone who thinks that is not happening doesn't grasp how these people operate. Our best defense from terrorist organizations since 9/11 has been the incompetence of our enemy. They have had limited funding due to us freezing cash world wide, and their pool of recruits has left a lot to be desired. ISIS doesn't have that problem. They have an army of young recruits from around the world to pull from. They have more cash than al Qaeda ever had. They will strike us, and they won't be looking to hijack planes again. The type of attack which occurred in Kenya is exactly the type they will try here.3 points

I am surprised that we have not had a group open fire on crowds of innocents. I suspect a major assault, by a group of terrorists, is being planned but are looking for the ideal place to get the most bang for the buck. Another reason why I am surprised it has not happened it because of how easy our jails are and how lenient our courts are. They could kill dozens and as long as they plead guilty they would live out their lives in much better place than their homeland. After it happens there will not be a call for more of the populace being armed for protection but a call for guns to be outlawed which we all know will never work. And because these types are going to use "assault weapons" there will be another round of scarcity and high prices afterwards. My only hope is that there is someone armed to at least try to fight back when it does happen.3 points

Well, Roman is 7 months old now. Took him to the vet, he's healthy as a horse and trying to become one  He weighed in at a healthy 51 pounds and is doing great. Disclaimer: it's not as cute when he flies over the back of the recliner and tries to lay on my neck anymore LMAO!3 points

Yeah, I would have gotten involved when weapons came out but before that I would have probably called 911. I was just thinking that I would have likely been in the shop with my wife waiting in the car with Gus.2 points

This is what happens when you play with guns. :P Regardless of the tragic shooting out there in Kodak in weather like this you've really got to be alert when driving. There is a direct correlation between the beautiful weather we've been having and absolute lunacy on the roads. The past couple of days I've seen an exponential increase in idiocy behind the wheel. Powerball tickets were a great idea today. Glad y'all made it home.2 points

Thanks everyone for keeping this discussion civil. I've learned quit a bit from it, and usually discussions of a religious nature don't end well. :up:2 points

Something is hosed here.... I'd disconnect both switches and use the voltmeter to first determine which wire is the incoming hot wire. If you've got a length of any sort of wire that will reach from one switch to the other, you can use the continuity feature in the voltmeter to find the ends of the same wire (breaker off!). Once you know which wire is which, wire it up just like the diagram.2 points

I knew the second they declared a caliphate that they would grow and grow fast, both in funding and in personnel. Coming together to fight the west is one thing but telling a male muslim you are trying to create their own Islamic state that will be ruled using Sharia and you have male muslims lining up. By declaring a caliphate they are getting the support of those who cannot fight as well as aid and expertise from around the world. And, worst case scenario they die and go to paradise fighting the infidels. I don't know of any muslim who wouldn't want their own Islamic state and now there are thousands fighting for it. It is really hard to fight a group of people that believe that they will be better off dead. There really aren't any incentives to not fight us when they believe they are waging war in the name of their god.2 points

No they allow them back they just "monitor" them. what ever the hell that means. I kinda bet he wouldn't mind to be bombing the sh!t out of ISIS. In spite of our screwy political relationship with Russia right now I skyped with my sister and them last night and they've had a great time. They toured the Kremlin and all that and have had an excellent experience the whole trip. Tomorrow is the big day though.1 point

They also have a great Glock Armorer there. He came in on his day off to do some trouble shooting and help me out. I had only met him once before for a few minutes so he had no personal reason to come in other than to take care of a customer and help grow their business. Was very pleased with their level of service. Shot there a few times just to give some local business, range is nice, but a bit warm in the heat of summer if you aren't directly in front of an ac vent.1 point

Well, I got the Body Guard today. The guy I bought it from I have know for several years. A buddy of mine was coming down from E.TN to Nashville on business and brought it to me. The guy that brought it is also a gun guy and he said the gun only needs one thing and that is an owner and that's me now. I got a gun, pocket holster, box and all paper work and 1 full box and another box of ammo with 12 rounds gone. Those are the only times it was shot by my buddy that bought it new. I have a Ruger LCP that I like a lot. It is going to be a toss up on these two guns as to which one stays and which one goes. Only need 1 pocket pistol. Taking both guns to the range tomorrow and shoot them both till I have made up my mind and then I will post the other one for sale....... :shrug:1 point

Costco better jump on that $670K. If it goes to court the awarded damages could be a lot more, as in into the millions. Juries these day default into thinking the big corporations should pay and that is why we often see BIG settlement numbers after court cases. Do I think the broken leg is worth $670K, not even close but the fact they treated him like a thief, attacked him and held him against his will should be worth millions. Even if the guy only got a broken nail during the incident Costco should pay still pay big for treating the guy the way they did. I don't care how mouthy or cantankerous the guy is that does not give Costco, or their agents, the right to do what they did.1 point
-
I do not participate in receipt checking. I am not a thief and won't be treated like one. I almost would not mind if they actually went through the stuff to see if it matched up with the receipt but they don't. All they want to see is a todays date ticket. Screw that. I hope they go out of business over it. Of course assuming the assaulted guy is actually innocent.1 point

I have worked with Bob for several years but it wasn't until he asked my advice on what firearm to carry while backpacking in Mountain Lion country that I learned he was a gifted outdoor photographer. He decided on an AR-15 platform and I said "Yeah! that'll do". So here is a link to some of his work. I hope ya'll like it. http://rdbowen.smugmug.com/1 point

Yeah, I just bit the bullet. These can't get any lower in price no matter how much the market gets flooded. I just got a deal negotiated with Botach for a slightly better price. Even if the Dems don't go full guntard (which they will), I can still sell these any time and get back what I have in them.1 point

I have not seen anyone get personal in this thread. We all have beliefs. And if this was being talked about in a room with us all present I doubt anyone would be butthurt. I seriously never write anything on TGO I would not say right to anyone's face.1 point

Oh Shoot turned me onto these mags a couple of years ago. He was kind enough to sell me a couple at a reasonable price and I went and bought 6 more from SportsmansGuide.com for about $27. I used them for well over a year without any issues of any kind until I gathered up enough self-respect and dignity to buy 10 Magpul Gen2s. Now that all I carry to the range...can't risk somebody I know seeing me using Thermolds. I have reliable intel that says they're made out of melted Pringles lids.1 point

"Wish You Were Here" is certainly their best song but I'd have to go with Dark Side of The Moon or The Final Cut (dang near a Waters solo album) as the best, overall album. As for your latter statement, I saw an article with more info this morning that pretty much drained my excitement, too. http://music.msn.com/music/article.aspx?news=890109&ocid=ansent11 I didn't realize that this album was to be made up of 'vault stuff' until I saw this in the article: So this is not new music from Pink Floyd. It is music that was recorded 21 years ago and that wasn't even good enough to make it onto what was arguably the weakest album they ever made. Further: Really? To me, the best part of any Floyd music was always the lyrics. The music was good and often painted a sort of 'sound landscape' behind the lyrics but the lyrics were what got me. Of course, I also think that Waters lyrics were the best but Gilmore et. al. wrote some interesting lyrics after he left, too. A Pink Floyd instrumental double album? Yawn. It is sad to see the remnants of what was, IMO, one of the greatest bands of all time having fallen so far and, apparently, become so desperate that they would feel the need to release an entire album of second-rate material from two decades ago. I can't help but liken it to the idea of someone releasing a double album of Jimi Hendrix tuning his guitar.1 point

Good lord, our government's obsession with barrel lengths... how is this news, why would the police care and why would this "good Samaritan" go through the trouble? If I discovered that a barrel was too short after buying something like that in bulk, it's too easy to junk the barrel and get a new one. Not like it's a machine gun or a bazooka.1 point

My wife watches the money too as we are trying to upgrade to a bigger house. I have about cleaned out my garage in selling items on ebay to fund my gun hobby. I don't know what I am going to do when I have nothing else to sell. I guess I could ask the neighbors if I can mow their yards or something. Undercut the mowing businesses in the area. I just hate to weedeat!1 point

Yes. How much hiking and/or backpacking do you do? I've done quite a bit in the past. If you're getting out 3-4 times per year, any old tent will probably do fine. Focus on sleeping comfortably. Which means a comfy sleeping pad and a roomy, warm sleeping bag. Even in the summer, you can unzip and lay outside a bag that is too warm, but you can't add layers to a bag that is too cool. I got caught in high elevations in Wyoming in August a few years ago. My bag wasn't enough. Fortunately, we had some spare bags flown in and I was able to double up. After that, I slept comfortably even when it dipped into the 20's at night. Back to the tent. Make sure it is large enough. If it is rated for two people, assume that it will sleep ONE (plus gear) comfortably. I like a vestibule so I can leave my gear outside and it still stay dry. And the door should zip out to the side. If it falls to the bottom, it will get muddy and dirty in no time. Come to think of it, there was a thread about this very thing not too long ago. Had some pretty good info. What other gear are you thinking of?1 point

I never thought I would have a Luger, but lo and behold, I stumbled into my local gun pusher's store one day, and there in the display cabinet was a Luger priced for a song. He said a guy just brought it in and want to sell it on consignment. As the old saying goes, "A blind hog will find an acorn every now and again. It shoots as well as any 9mm I've ever fired.1 point
