  1. Just got off the phone w PJ corporate, and advised them, as mentioned above, that there's over 20K members that belong to a group call TN Gun Owners,This group holds american core values, and embrace the fact that John Schnatter took time from his schedule, to pay respect to the family of their employee, as well as the employee victim who was senselessly murdered. I advised we didn't want anything free or special, we just wanted to let them know that this Friday between 3 pm and midnite we would order food from Papa Johns as our way of saying thanks for maintaining true values that we honor and respect. PJ reminded me that halloween is a busy day and to order early. He also advised he would make sure that Papa John himself knows of our intended act of thanks, and thanked the group in advance. XL pepperoni mushroom and onion w a cookie for dinner on friday !   If you dont order show up on a strecher,or bring a copy of your doctors note!

  4. I see no point in buying a new repro M1 Carbine.  The allure is it being the War Baby.      Mine is a Inland '43.  Looks like a tank rolled over it but it is the last long gun I would ever part with.  (not counting the WASR)   Bump fires like a mofo with a thirty round mag.  (can i say that here?)   Kills paper plates at 100 yards all day long.   If you have one then find a bayonet and scabbard.

  5. On 1 weekend a month I will usually order in and get something delivered so I don't have to cook and this week I think I will be ordering a Papa Johns pizza. I normally order Pizza Hut or Dominoes because they are both less then 5 minutes away and if I do pick up it's close by. I have no clue were Papa Johns is located at here but I know we have one cause I have seen their cars running around. I will also have it delivered and make sure I tip the driver. The owner of that company really gained a lot my respect when he did what he did last weekend...................jmho

  7. Well, this will be my first Papa Johns Pizza but you can bet it won't be my last if it is as good as some folks say they are that I have ask. A lot of it will depend on how it is when I eat it cold out of fridge the next morning.........I dearly love cold pizza and coffee in the morning. When I read that the CEO of Papa Johns was there and they showed pictures of him that sold me for sure. I'm sure that probably 90% of the Papa Johns Pizza Stores are franchise own and the one where the young man died is probably a franchise store. So for the CEO of such a large Corporation to show that kind of feeling towards a young man and employee and his family was just over the top for me.   I wish there was some way we could all get together across the unity of TGO'ers and all order a pizza at the same time and let them know that we care about  CEO Papa John and have great admiration for his stepping up to the plate for the family and being there for them. Do you think this could be done and could we get it organized quick enough? Other wise just make sure it's a Papa Johns weekend at your house on Saturday or Sunday............................

  10. Lots to consider in these post. All good points for PJC doing the right thing, even if just a PR move. In spite of what may be reality, the act itself deserves some kudos. For that I will also order Friday. But maybe we should all ask to speak with a local manager and explain why we are doing this as well. Or at least, as time and occasion permit send a call to the shop we used. By quoting the receipt number, we could show how many extra orders were received from TGO members.

  12. She owes the owner of the cow a cow, and the owner of the cow owes her a car if the law hasn't changed recently. Assuming the cow owner isn't an honest person, he's way ahead only losing a cow. It may be tough to prove ownership of the cow.   Since she has insurance, they should pay her for the car and pursue their money from the cow owner. Lawyers are one good side effect of buying auto insurance.

He is usually pretty stoic when it comes to pain and such. This was  bad. To the point that it scared me really bad.He is resting now but  is feeling pretty bad still.Plus just mere hours of  sleep in the last days and 18 hours without food because of all of this sucks. I have a couple of pouches attached to the molle to hold some extra shells, knife, flashlight, etc. Keeps all that stuff all in one place. So my vote is for "cool gear". My wife rolls her eyes about it, but we'll see who the mall ninja queer is when she's hiding behind me and my scabbard when something goes bump in the night.

  19. I got my butt whipped with a belt a few times as a kid.  It was reserved for corporal punishment and usually when I had been corrected several times previously and still disobeyed or when I had done something dangerous/damaging, I deserved it when it happened, and I think I turned out alright.  I disagree with anyone who believes that spanking a child isn't a viable correction tool.  There are a lot of leaches on society out there who might have turned out better if they'd had a knot jerked in their asses when they were kids.   But I digress.   As it relates to the story at hand, I really can't help but think that someone just has it out for the whole SoG "family".  Granted what Will Hayden is accused of, if guilty, is reprehensible and deserves the full punishment of the law (and then some) but what these two were accused of sounds like nothing more than a child getting disciplined.   Maybe I'm just becoming increasingly skeptical in my old age, but it sure seems that someone, somewhere, decided to put this family out of business and ruin them forever.

  21.   I would say just as easy as hitting a deer especially if it's a little dark, they just trot out from behind some folage right into your path. My insurance repaired my truck after I hit a deer and I only had liability and comprehensive coverage since it was a 1996 model. Comprehensive covered it since they determined it was not my fault, just ran right out of the woods right into my truck.

  23.   Almost have enough money to buy two RDIAS. There is LOTS of money behind keeping the laws the way they are. That $20,000+ M16 will be worth less than $1000 if the machine gun ban ever goes away. Uphill climb. I'm all for it.

  24. That is your decision and I respect it. I went and read that entire story in that link and then went and looked for a police statement and there was never a complaint filed evidently because there is not police report for an armed robbery of a Papa Johns Pizza Driver. I also went and read many of the comments about it and some said it was an inside job and others took the same outlook as you. I  will be buying a Papa Johns Pizza on Friday night because I trust what took place last weekend a lot more than a bunch of hearsay from an angry former employee that is alive and breathing......................jmho

  30.     Any sort of heater burning any sort of hydrocarbon based fuel has the potential to produce significant amounts of CO.  It's mainly a concern when the combustion products (exhaust) is vented into the same space you occupy, such as with a ventless model.  The ventless models do burn exceptionally efficiently, but only when everything is exactly right.  A poor installation job, bent burner, etc. can muck things up real quick.    Water vapor (another combustion product) may also be a significant concern.  Propane produces either 4x or 8x the amount of water vapor that natural gas does.  Hence, running a ventless propane heater indoors can cause a lot of condensation build-up, which leads to mold, mildew, etc.  But that just kills you slowly and you can see it.  CO kills you much faster and is far less obvious.

  31. Am I the ONLY one who is both shocked and appalled by Maggie's behavior?   She's bound for DC with people (other than Glenn) she barely knows and didn't give a ratz azz about a month ago.  She has no clue where her sister is!!!     My sister may be getting gang raped and eaten......Mehh, screw her.  Let's go north.  I'll be the first to admit, people are fools to put value on blood kin, but she actually LOVES her sister...or claimed to. If I had a person I cared about, lost, I be damned if I leave her behind.     10 point penalty for Maggie for disloyalty and poor decision making.

  32. We order from Papa Johns quite a bit. I like their pizzas better than the others and they are always hot. Of course I'm sure this chain has a different owner, but good pizza just the same. It was a noble thing the owner did for the victims family. I think you are doing a very good thing also.   I just read where it was the CEO of the Papa Johns chain that visited and paid off all the funeral bills. I thought it was the owner of that store. Papa Johns had been our favorite for a long time and will continue to be our favorite. Not many CEO's would have done this IMO.

  37. From information from some of our recent class graduates, it seems if they submitted their applications online and then took the class, if there are no questionable issues on their applications (which may take additional time to research) it takes an average of two weeks to receive their permits in the mail following submission of their fingerprints.  If they didn't submit online, but went through the old manual system, it takes about 30 days to get it.

  41. Your absolute best bet is to go directly to Glock itself.    Go here for the form, print it out, and just write "Glock night sights" in the instructions, along with the model and serial number above.    I recommend sending the slide only in good packaging via USPS Priority in one of the small flat-rate boxes. For $57 plus your cost to USPS it to Georgia, Glock will supply the night sights, install them, update anything that is out of spec in your slide, and ship it back to you via FedEx. $57 total. It's an unbelievable deal. Takes 1-1/2 to 2 weeks round trip from my experience.

  44. I'm an old hand regarding ragweed, only thing I'm seriously allergic to, started suddenly when I was in late 30's, woke up one Labor Day morning in the country with my eyes swelled and glued shut, no idea what it was. Eyes the worst part, viewed from the side so swollen the cornea area looks like flat section with eyeball bulged over it top and bottom. Besides the itching and other allergy symptoms, doc said eye reaction very bad, high eye pressure and whatnot, have to treat it. At any rate, if your symptoms started well before end of Aug, and have gotten worse recently, it's almost certainly not ragweed, at least as the prime culprit. Main pollen release is like Labor Day through first week of Oct. here in E TN. I can roll in it the day before the pollen is released with no symptoms at all, matter of fact I machete all of it around the complex here toward the end of Aug. Nothing like the amount of it as in the country, but a perimeter of the Giant Ragweed all around the place, 12 footers. When it's "ripe" you can shake a plant as see the yellow cloud. Of course cutting the nearby stuff isn't possible in the boonies, as it's everywhere around you in most places, and it may not even really help even here in the urb, as the pollen circulates everywhere, they sample it even in the very extremities of the upper atmosphere. At any rate, through the years I always went with the magic bullet of the day, and for years that was Tavist once it became OTC and then also generic, and then later Claratin, which I still use, but of course the generic drug itself, Loratadine, half the price using CVS/Walgreen store brand, or even less in bulk bottles from Sam's. Loratadine has been quite effective through the years for me, again though, doubling the dose to every 12 hours. In all cases of using both through the years, I've doubled the dose though, taking every 12 hours instead of once every 24. It's gotten less virulent for me through the years, so my system has changed some, just like it had changed to suddenly become allergic to it, and I seldom have to dose against it these days, at least here in the urb. Also, I discovered about 10 years ago by accident that low carbing helped significantly during ragweed season. Long story on theory of why it does, but lots of people have found same with lots of different allergies, not just the ragweed. At any rate, though, again, if your symptoms have gotten significantly worse during Oct than Sept, and worse over last two weeks, don't see any way it's ragweed that's primary cause. At any rate, assuming your problem is some sort of specific allergy, highly recommend trying the generic for Claratin, every 12 hours for a few days. I've found it's fairly important that it doesn't lapse in system too, seems a constant level of it is much more effective than trying to only use it when symptomatic and "catching back up" with the histamines. Even though I'm doubtful of the ragweed as your prime suspect you might eventually have to have the tests done to see. Our bodies change. Can tell you that if you are still having significant symptoms after first hard frost, if indeed it is an allergy, then it's likely not from outside, but something else common that you've become suddenly sensitive too, like, gulp, cat or dog dander. (I certainly hope not). Could even be something in diet that body chemistry now doesn't like, wheat and other grains are often prime suspects, which plays into the overall low carbing thing I mentioned earlier in post. - OS

  46.   Enfield said a mouthful here...   Remember this... There are three kinds of lubricants... Petroleum based (...mineral...), fat based. (... .animal lard/soap...) and synthetic... They all do the same thing...   A good one should do two things... Lubricate and displace moisture... Some do better than others... Balistoil, for example, will not do a good job of displacing moisture (...i know, i use it on our cap and ball revolvers; so i wipe them down with WD40 or something handy, then finish with Balistol...)...   An ole buddy of mine who is a world class gunsmith told me one time when i asked him "what was the best lubricant for guns":..."...The one on sale at Brownells..."...  I think he is right...   Buying lubricants for your cherished smoke pole is a lot like picking your favorite beer, beer wench, girlfriend, or wife; it's a personal choice.... Pick the one you like, and don't be too worried about the "next best" one to come out...   It's all marketing hype, man....   leroy

  49. Because the Republican leadership who begged gun owners to help them gain control in the state government, claiming they are 'on our side,' aren't really 'on our side' any more than are their Democrat counterparts.  Haslam was a member of Bloomberg's "Mayors Against Guns" group (oops, that's supposed to be Mayors Against Illegal Guns.  Yeah, right.)  Harwell seems have done everything she can to see that many pro gun bills don't even come to a vote and Ramsey got the so-called 'parking lot bill' gutted at the behest of his big business puppet masters (such as Fed Ex.)  Quite the track record for people who claimed to be 'on our side' and whined that if we would just put them in charge they would support and advance our gun rights.   I think that the money probably did have at least a little to do with it, too.  It isn't like politicians have to choose between 'being greedy' and 'backstabbing the voters'.  They can simultaneously do both quite efficiently.
