So I am quitting "the habit." I've seen numerous other people state their reasons for leaving or not joining to begin with; and I am finally coming to my senses. The realization that the social network is nothing but a joke. It's like a veil over reality, fake and superficial. I have wasted so much time looking at mindless ads, posts and game requests instead of actually reading something with substance. I feel like I can learn more from interacting with you guys here even though I may not always see eye to eye, that's life. Now I have time to actually spend using my mind instead of placating it with nonsense...3 points

My first wife died of cancer when she was 38 years old. She had melanoma which eventually metastasized to her lungs, liver, then her brain. We fought it as hard and as long as we were able. We saw doctors in Santa Monica and tried new chemo protocols but in the end, we all knew she was terminal. I found out when we got the results of the MRI of her brain, but I never chose to tell her exactly how long the doctors had given her to live. My fear was if she heard how short her time was thought to be, she might give up and quit believing, quit fighting. I simply didn't want her to stop fighting. I needed her to live, our 10 year old daughter needed her to live, as did all of her family. It was not easy. In the end she was unable to do anything for herself and she relied upon me for the simplest and most personal things. I loved her greatly and would have done anything possible to extend her life just a few more hours, or to make her the slightest bit more comfortable. Was I selfish? Perhaps. I know it's hard to believe, but through twenty one years together both dating, and in marriage, my wife and I were never closer as a couple than in her final months and days, battling her disease together. Watching the strength and grace with which she lived her life was and has been an inspiration to me to this day. While it was tough seeing her slowly losing her ability to fight, the closeness we shared during those days will never be forgotten. I do not regret a single moment, or a single decision, and I rest easy knowing my wife died after fighting the good fight, and running the good race. My own personal experience tells me this young lady may have chosen the day and the hour of her death, but in so doing she may have missed out some very special moments with her family, moments they may someday wish they had to remember. Sometimes the simplest joys of life truly come from being in the midst of the storm with those we love the most. May God rest her soul.3 points

I read your post ... nothing is getting celebrated ...its HER decision to end her own life.. seems that all her family was Ok with it and came to terms with it..thats what makes it easier.. planned vs a sudden death is very different..I hope I can plan my own death when I see fit..I am hoping my loved ones understand and are not seflish enough to keep me with them when I am in so much pain and cant bear it any longer..Sometimes loving someone very much means having to let go.2 points

Ok, The Godfather is in the house!! I must say that pics do not do it justice. It is a hell of an impressive knife! That visually stunning look is just too much for words. Can't wait to show my wife the latest toy!2 points

I would like to have a law passed that would make CCW permit holders exempt from background checks (NICS) since the permit already verifies that we are able to own a firearm. Since the NICS is only supposed to be a verification of legality to own and no other purpose, then a CCW permit makes it obsolete. Thoughts?2 points

We were thrilled with the great turnout in spite of the poor weather conditions in the area. Fortunately, there was no precipitation though it was a little cool. I want to thank everybody for participating and for our great sponsors for supporting this match. Look forward to seeing y'all next year. Beth's advantage is that she's got some good experience living in the post apocalyptic world, which has made her fearless. The others in the hospital, not so much. I can't wait till either she or Carol take Dawn out.2 points

I try to avoid the subject as much as possible with anyone outside my family. Don't really want people knowing what I have or don't have, what I am prepared for or not prepared for, etc. Kind of like cc vs oc. I don't like to draw unwanted attention.2 points

Got an email from these folks, great deal on used Italian police trade in Beretta 92S @$297.00. Be warned due to the mag release button, 92FS or M9 mags may not work with out the notch. Link to the deal: http://www.topgunsupply.com/beretta-model-92-s-italian-police-imports.html I admit I did not know anything about 92S, this is what I found: In order to meet requirements of some law enforcement agencies, Beretta modified the Beretta 92 by adding a slide-mounted combined safety and decocking lever, replacing the frame mounted manual thumb safety. This resulted in the 92S which was adopted by several Italian law enforcement and military units. The later relocation of the magazine release button means these models (92 & 92S) cannot necessarily use later magazines, unless they have notches in both areas. http://m.brisbanetimes.com.au/lifestyle/life/brittany-maynard-scheduled-to-die-this-saturday-fulfills-bucket-list-wish-20141030-11dzdh.html I personally think this is beautiful. We should all be able to choose how we die if the choice is between extreme suffering or peaceful escape. This drudges up Kevorkian style ideas for sure.. What do y'all think?1 point

I let my last AK (I know, I know) get away from me over 10 years ago, and never regretted the decision to go all AR pattern, all the time. A few weeks ago, I noticed a deal at Palmetto State Armory offering a VZ2008 with 5 mags, mag pouch, bayonet/sheath, sling and cleaning kit for $399.00. How could I go wrong? Well, according to any number of interweb commandos, I could go very wrong indeed. The list was long - glacial service from PSA, canted front sight bases, mutant FCGs that would be unreliable, corroded barrels, handguard temps approaching that of the surface of the sun, a couple of well-documented "gremlins" resulting in dead triggers, folding stocks that required sandblasting and the hammer of Thor to release, virulent strains of ebola virus impregnated in the beaver barf stock...OK, just kidding about that last one, but you get the idea. The phrase "the monkeys at Century Arms" was repeated often. Well, I am happy to report a very, very, satisfying buying experience. First, PSA took exactly 4 business days to ship my rifle. When I opened the box at my FFL's place, I found a rifle in immaculate condition. 3 of the 5 mags were new and unused, 2 were only slightly used. Bayonet/sheath was new, sling was all leather and entirely serviceable with some scuffs. The mag pouch was as nice a piece of leather as has ever come out of an Eastern bloc nation. Thick, supple leather you could sew a strap on and sell to some hipster for serious ammo money. The folding stock was stiff, but a shot of Breakfree and some ooomph had it working in a couple of minutes. I took it home quite pleased with myself. But how would it shoot? After a bit of a shocker finding reasonably priced 7.62 x 39 (have I made a mistake?), I cleaned and lubed the VZ and headed for the rifle club. I put up an enormous "Vote For XXXX" sign at 50 yards, in case I had one of the dreaded canted front sight rifles. With any of my ARs, I could hit this sign from NE Alabama on a clear day. I then plopped myslef down behind my range bag and fired 5 shots. The trigger was kinda long, kinda heavy, but smooth. It allowed good shooting if I did my part. Downrange, I discovered a tidy group about 2.5" with 3 round sinto almost exactly 1 inch! In my experience, few rifles have iron sights this well regulated from the factory. I was thrilled. Remember, this is a $399.00 rifle shooting Tula. a rifle that, by all accounts, should have spontaneously combusted somewhere between the factory and my FFL. Over 2 nights of enthusiastic shooting, I have put 440 rounds of Tula through my new acquisition. Function has been 100% with no cleaning or lubrication. The sights are rough for my 50+ year-old eyes and the trigger is nothing to write home about, BUT they are perfectly functional and good enough to allow some pretty precise shooting. Rapid mag dumps are nothing, though the handguards do get pretty warm. I bought this VZ because: A. It was cheap B. The Hildabeast will not want me to have it a couple years from now. 3. I can throw it in my trunk and not bury my head in my hands and weep openly if it were stolen - as I would if it were my Noveske, my DD, my BCM, my Colt, or my M&Ps. I'm keeping it because its a damn good firearm, and it will never be worth less than what I paid for it. Get one while the gettin's good.1 point

My wife wanted me to put the Mossberg M590A1 9 shot pump out, but I told her no because we have wood floors here and I was afraid it would slip or get bumped and knocked over. Does Glock have high-cap mags for the 45acp? I've never seen anything but 9mm in high cap.1 point

OK, but if G19 and SW MP Compact are OK (per the announcement) then it truly is not a "BUG" friendly classification. Sure you can shoot your Khar PM9 if you want....but someone with a "mid size" pistol is going to have a huge advantage if stages are same as the rest of the match. An 18 round stage is 3 full mags from a Khar PM9....... And shooting 5 round only stages with a G19 is just frankly just ludicrous. If it is a seperate category to be run at matches on the same course of fire with SSP Division capacity then OK, fine, that makes sense. People are going to shoot the biggest gun they can to be competitive and as such, the G19, one of the most carried CCW guns is conspicuously absent at IDPA matches in the holsters of higher level shooters. I shot 10 sanctioned matches this year and do not remember seeing 10 TOTAL G19 sized guns in my squads all year combined. So if this is adding a division so that people can compete against each other with one of the most often carried CCW firearms and not full size service guns and long slide competition guns in the same division then I'm all for it. ....but if this is just a bastardization of the BUG matches but allowing bigger guns than are currently allowed in BUG then that is a waste of time and effort and ANOTHER big miss by IDPA HQ. Add the CCP and KEEP the BUG stuff too, don't get rid of the BUG by adding a category that they CAN shoot their BUG in but will never be competitive in. Heck, for that matter you can shoot a BUG in SSP now.....but no one does so they need to keep BUG as a seperate thing, not merge it with CCP.1 point
-
If CCP get put in that means no more "BUG" matches. Some of us know how much fun those are, don't we. Big fun, don't knock till you try it. Not saying no names. LOP, IDPA open class !!! Never thought I'd see that. And now the cry babies will stop whining about the flatfoot crap. Maybe they'll start letting knee braces be used " outside the pant ". Oh my, what will they think of next. IDPA is like TN weather, if you don't like it, hang out a while it'll change.1 point

To me a layaway is not a purchase until it's paid off, you get the receipt and the background check is complete. That is when you take possession, purchase has been made and you walk out the door with it.1 point

It's high school level economics. Very basic. A market that spikes quickly, falls quickly. To maintain high sales for a given market, everything must rise slowly. Recent gun sales rose like a tsunami. It's no surprise the bottom fell out just as quickly.1 point

2 highly evolved (as far as zombie apocalyptic survivors go) of several years in all types of situations and threats, against a group that have hid in a hospital during all that time with most of the comforts of home? I'll take the 2 highly evolved apocalyptic survivors for $1000 Bob. LOL1 point

I was not very impressed with the episode; I hope it will add to the storyline at some point. Group at the hospital savenaps (kidnaps) survivors, help them out so they can "owe" back later. OK, going around kidnapping survivors, give them medical care so they can mop floors and iron laundry????? Sounds like Dawn is on a power trip. I did notice her uniform and other police officers were very clean and pressed. When Rick left Kings County for Atlanta, he was in a clean and pressed uniform.....it didn't stay that way long. And other than the belt for his gun and handcuffs, there is no more indication of his law enforcement past. Carl wears the hunt and there isn't much left of that hat. I am not making sense of the episode, but can see that if the powers to be are getting survivors to join them, they would want people that will submit themselves. Dawn is looking at Beth as being weak, which she makes a valid point of the scar for the past suicide attempt. Of the prison escapees, I considered Beth to be the weakest, If I were in that situation of being overrun and had to chose one other to make a run with, Beth would have been my last choice. I figure Joen has been a past guest of the hospital and didn't leave a good comment on the survey.1 point

I am a believer that tools are made to use. It's like scratching your Snap-on ratchet, putting a ding in your 60K pickup. Granted, I won't try to pry a nickel up with this but I will use it and if the time ever comes, use it for what it's designed for. The LG has been fantastic and I've had to sharpen it twice already. Looking forward to the mailman!1 point

Dave, There is one difference between the newly bought rifle of Rugerla and you. He didn't load his rifle but you loaded yours and you know exactly what's in it. I picked up another rifle in Spokane in October. It was almost a match to my Pedersoli Flintlock except iso .50 cal it was .45 and caplock Pedersoli. Before I plopped down the cash I took the ramrod out and stuck it down the barrel. Sure enough there was a load in it with about 6 inches of powder down that smoke pole. I took it over to one of my sisters kids house, pulled the breech plug and used a 135psi of air to pop the load out it it. When we did it actually back flowed the powder out of the barrel, back thru the breech plug. I squirted a mess of WD-40 down the barrel and waited 15 min then out it popped. I then thoroughly cleaned the rifle and found a rough spot right about where the ball and charge was sitting in the barrel. There was also a bit of rust in there which i think was because of accumulated moisture that got to the powder through the nipple. Some bore cleaner, lots of strokes up and down the barrel and some shooting and you'd never know the the barrel wasn't new. Nice pics of the new rifle! To me scopes are a different issue with Bp. Imho you buy a scope, any brand for your smoke pole and it's the luck of the draw when it's going to break. It might be the 5th shot or the 100th shot. Bp just seems to have a way with destroying perfectly good scopes. I tend to go with front globe and rear aperture which acts just like a scope without the magnification. LP1 point

Stopped by Academy in Brentwood last night. They had 300,000,000 rounds of that Aguila or whatever powerless .22lr. It's been there for 2 days he said. Nobody wants it. Imagine if Aguila put powder in them! Haha.1 point

I went up to Bass Pro this afternoon to meet a guy to buy a muzzle loader from him (I let my CVA Optima go as part of a trade deal) I could tell right away that this on (also a CVA Optima) had been used a good bit but I found that there was some rust and pitting it the barrel that I wasn't told about. In his defense I don't believe the guy realized that it was in that shape as he seemed to be the "it's nothing more than a tool and i'll treat it as such" kinda guy. It had a cheap 4 power BSA scope on it and I gave him $125 for it so I figured I could overlook the rusty bore at that price. I will be surprised it I ever shoot the thing out past 75yds and honestly I'd say most work it will do will be in the 25-45 yard range so the loss in accuracy due to bore imperfections should never be evident. Anyways, The whole reason I started this post, I was on my way home and a couple miles from the house I looked ahead and to my left and saw a young 6 poit running at a full clip across a hay field along the fence row/tree line. We he set to try and occupy the same piece of pavement so I started slowing down, he stopped on the edge of the road, turned then ran just as fast back in the same direction he'd just come from. This normally wouldn't have been a "post worthy" deer sighting but as I approached him while he was on the shoulder of the road I noticed the 6 or so inches of an arrows sticking out just above or at the top of the shoulder. I watched the fella run about 200 yards back through the same gap in the trees that he came from. I wanted to get out and yell "your welcome" to whoever the hunter was that I just saved some tracking time.1 point

I have a little bit. Most folks used to think it was crazy but as of late, more and more people are coming to the realization that at a minimum we are going to have an economic crash or something that affects our entire country. There is a push by the left and the results won't be known till it's too late. Cloward piven strategy. The world is on fire and teetering on the brink. James Wesley Rawls book patriots is a great read, and as each day passes I see that scenario playing out. I'm not a prepper, I can't afford to do as would be required so I am hoping for the best. It would be difficult to be prepared for everything and who knows what's coming, one day at a time! Know your neighbors and if the shtf, at least you can pull together as a group. Get some sleep :)1 point

Yeah, I can't wait to see what he weighs, mainly because my wife said "Ohhhh he's only gonna be about 40-45 lbs max". I bet her that he would be 60-70, but my age is showing and I can't remember what I bet her LMAO! I know she would have died in a day or two had they not seen her.
