Don't feel bad... Glock is late on a single-stack 9mm by a decade or so. :rofl:5 points

With all this fixed blade knife goodness going on here, I ran across what I think is quite a deal. I like the idea of having a modest sized fixed blade I can carry. I'm also somewhat traditional and like wood scales and leather sheaths. Plus I'm cheap. ;) Enter the Boker Magnum Survival.... http://www.boker.de/us/fixed-blade-knife/boker/tactical-knife/02SC310.html $26 to my door. Yep, really. I'm no knife expert, but I fiddled around with it over the weekend. I don't really consider it a true "survival knife", but its a perfectly serviceable camp/utility knife. It was reasonably sharp out of the box, just barely shaving sharp. I assume that'll be the norm since it's a 440 stainless blade as opposed to something like 1095. Probably a better choice for this purpose anyway... less concern for chipping it or corrosion. The notch is listed for cutting cord, rope, etc. I didn't have any rope laying around that I wanted to make shorter so I can't say how well it works for that. I did do a good job shaving little knots off the stick I was whittling on. It's got a little ridge on the spine to act as a thumb stop, but I think it could use a little jimping for a more tactile feel. I may have a go at that myself at some point. The wrong handed sheath is a bit of an expected bummer (I'm left handed), but carrying it on my left side seemed to work fine. For the price, I'm more than satisfied. :)3 points

In the great state of TN it is illegal to give or receive oral sex, shoot any game from a moving automobile except a WHALE, sell a hollow log, and carry a skunk into the state!!! LMBO I thought these were really funny.3 points

I made a knife a couple of weeks ago and had so much fun with the style that I decided to do another one but kick it up a little more! The knife was a "Persian" style grind and I decided to make the new one longer and the handle a bit slimmer to further exaggerate the lines. It is currently at heat treat and should be back in about a week. When I get it back I'll make the scales out of bone colored Micarta and fine tune the front edge area of the blade on the grinder to make it a proverbial razor!! What do you all think? Jim2 points

As of 7/1/2014 there are no restriction on blade length or method of opening assisted and auto (switchblades) are legal to carry in the state of TN.2 points

Since I'm between projects and temporarily back running the gun, I take offense. Spring and summer are coming and when it gets hot and thick it ain't much of a racket. Everbody thinks every day is 70 degrees and beautiful, open, green pasture. Everyone has to get paid haha2 points

Get somebody to challenge Harwell in the primary from the hard right... Don't have to win the seat, just have to wound her bad enough we loose the seat to the democrats... Start going to her town hall meetings and asking her pointed question wouldn't hurt either. The pro-2nd amendment community needs to take a scorched earth stance on this situation, if you're not with us on every vote, we might as well replace you with a democrat.2 points

On a side note while there is some merit to loud pipes getting you noticed, I'm a fan of this quote: "If you think loud pipes save lives, imagine what learning to ride the thing will do." I encourage my fellow motorcyclists to get advanced training when possible from places like the Total Control riding clinic that comes to Nashville every year. Hijack over2 points

Not sure why they can't pay people to do that, when on the low end, they're making $1.5mil from booth space alone.2 points

Not much to say but what a cool little pistol. I loved the ease of concealment and the familiar 1911esqe controls. It was reasonably accurate in spite of its small size. I can hit a man size silouhette at 25 yards consistently. 7 yards and closer was almost instinctively easy to blow the chest out of the silouhette. The thing that surprised me the most was the far gentler than expected recoil. Try one, you won't be disappointed.1 point

We will be hosting our monthly Outlaw Steel Match this Saturday the 28th in Dickson. Usual divisions with a new one--Shotgun-Pistol. You will start with Shotgun and go to pistol. So no loading the shotgun on the clock. Good way to get the scatter gun out without all the shell caddies and such. Stages out shortly.1 point

I started this really cool blade! I 3 1/2" blade and 7 1/2" overall and THIN! I took a couple of risks with this one. I ground this blade as absolutely as thin as I could so it would be a real slicer, hopefully it won't warp while heat treating. I also did a quick dip in acid and sanded before heat treat to see what kind of color differences I can achieve. I found a small set of Presentation Grade Amboyna Burl, red in color that I will use for scales if all is well when the blade gets back from treating! I think Copper and Stainless Mosaic pins are calling. This should be a beautiful and performing knife! What do ye think? Jim .http://s406.photobucket"1 point

I got fired from my job last week at the pork and bean plant. It was a good job I was in charge of putting the beans in the can. But they said I was putting them in upside down, giving everyone the hiccups.1 point

As an owner of a wide array of handguns, including the Hi-Point 9mm, it serves a great purpose for everyone's collection. Would never consider it as my primary home defense or EDC weapon, but is definitely what I take camping, fishing, keep in the toolbox, etc. It is different, ugly, and heavy for its size but that's what makes it fun and to help develop versatility in your shooting. It's always a joy to shoot the nice, pretty, and expensive guns that also take expensive, pretty, nice ammo. A Hi-Point on the other hand will take any cheap crap you can find while still putting it down range-on target. What's really fun to do at ranges is to have your Kimbers, S&Ws, Berettas, and such going, everyone is 'oohing & aahing', reach in the bag to pull out your Hi-Point with full white glove treatment. It's like some of their brains explode from confusion. Welcome to the club, be proud your not a gun snob. The other remarkable thing about Hi-Point... rarely questions asked, life-time warranty that follows the firearm, regardless of original owner or if you're the 100th owner. Can't say that about everything else in my collection.1 point

Well, if you spend more on some other lower, you will have the satisfaction of knowing you paid more than you needed to. That makes some people feel good.1 point

Yeah, I am not sure why I need one over an LC9s...the LC9 had a HORRIBLE trigger, but the LC9s is wonderful, and I think it is smaller than the new glock, certainly it is less expensive.1 point

NFA considerations aside, a handgun has certain legal advantages over a long gun in any number of states -- that's a significant contributory reason for their popularity. Until last summer there were two big ones in TN, now just one. - OS1 point

Outside of the joke, you can always turn off SSID broadcasting. That way people have to know the name of the router before they can connect. Or do MAC address filtering, that way only specific devices are allowed on. I did the same thing though. my guest wireless is "Virus Infected Wifi". ***edit*** My personal favorite name is about 4 blocks away and it's "I LOVE BOOBS!"1 point

if i want to carry a single stack glock then i will carry my g36. the g43 is not much smaller. the g43 is about the same size as the g26. so here goes glock again, late to the party. when glock makes a single stack 9 mm the size of the kahr pm9 and/or the kel tec pf9 then i will pull my money out and buy one. until then if i want to carry a single stack glock the g36 will fit the bill.1 point

30SF. The 26/27 just don't do anything right, in my opinion. The slide is too fat to be a pocket gun, but the grip is too short to be a primary gun. The 30SF is longer in the grip to make it feel a bit more like a 19/23 and ... well... it's a 45ACP. That's God's Chosen Caliber.1 point

Sounds like we need a TGO 'reporter' to go down to every meeting that has a firearms bill in front of it, and record the entire meeting ;)1 point

I have found that the easiest was to hunt with a large pistol is to use a walking stick with a v notch at the top. Really helps holding the pistol steady for a shot. Thats what I used when I used to hunt with a TC Contender.1 point

Though I have never tried it, one for the record books here would be what an old fella told me about. A shop I used to work in had an old guy they called sarge. He was an old school hobo who lived in a halfway house. He rode the trains a lot. Like I said, old school hobo. He once told me how they used to filter Aqua Velva through a loaf of stale bread. Now THATS gotta be nasty!1 point

I'm like 173ABN, mostly 9mm/45ACP/5.56mm/7.62mm. However...., During each of the recent BHO Panics I had no problems finding and buying all the .38 Super & 10mm that I wanted at pre-panic prices. So having a couple of cult-calibers can be a good fallback during those times of politically driven social activism.1 point

I did a couple years ago. Just didn't have the space to store more ammo. Which is sad in its own right. I got rid of stuff like 40s&w, 6.8spc, 38special and a couple others. Just wasn't worth it. I stick to 9mm and 45 in pistols and smg's now, and 223 and 308 for rifles. I have a 300/221 Sbr AR but I've had that since.... Mid 2000 something and it's fun to shoot suppressed and makes a great house gun. So I'll probably keep that to my one "non standard" round. It really is worth consolidating. Just makes life easier.1 point

Personally load everything I shoot except of course .22 No counting .22 that's about 10 calibers. Variety is the spice of life and there's a tool for any application.1 point

So do I. Hell, I took my GSG-522 to the range today just to have some fun in between serious pistol shooting. But while multiple calibers is half the fun, I'd like it to not be half my wallet. I'm in the same boat. I really think I can "do more with less" if I go to 9mm. Meaning I can get more rounds for practice, and negate the loss in size. Plus, 9mm is a much more universal round, and has a lot more options for future purchases.1 point
-
I think that having multiple calibers to shoot at the range is half the fun. I really enjoy shooting less popular calibers and older firearms. I could see a benefit to keeping your personal defense weapons that you are going to practice frequently down to one caliber, but I don't think that I could consolidate my whole collection. Variety is the spice of life!1 point

That's a great idea! Save the money you would spend on a dumpster and get one of these: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/86733-commercially-available-handheld-flamethrower/1 point

Perhaps it's just the fact that crooked departments make it easier for crooked officers to thrive. The Chief Law Enforcement Officer at whichever department you want to talk about sets the tempo for what happens beneath them. If that CLEO is an honest, ethical person intent on defending the Constitution then the department will generally follow suit. If they aren't, then it generally won't. Really this is fundamentally no different than any other business with a good or bad boss at the top of the ladder. The problem is that a bad boss in this particular role can really make it miserable on the citizenry.1 point
