My family was visiting Pigeon Forge last weekend. On our way home we stopped at a Cracker Barrel before hitting the interstate. We had an older gentlemen that waited on us that obviously didn't have much experience with serving. He was very polite and after our order he said let this old Marine get this order in. By the time our breakfast was done he had been probably the most polite and courteous waiter I have ever had. A friend from home was in the restaurant and we picked up his bill. Anyway for our waiter we had left a tip that was almost the total of the bill. While we where checking out he ran out to make sure we meant to leave that much. Wanted to know if he was supposed to split with the other waiter which we told him no. That the tip was for the great service for the meal and to our country, he almost was in tears and said thanks that he was working there because both of his boys where overseas and his daughter in law was in Korea. He has his grandchildren for eleven months til they get home , and needed every penny he could make for the kids. Just thought that was worth sharing about the kind of people this country never hears about.5 points

Actually a system that is too large will be less efficient and less comfortable. In the summer it will not remove the humidity so you never really feel cool. In the winter it will heat the house too fast and not allow for balanced heat. The unit must be sized correctly so it can condition the load correctly. I would suspect that comfort is the main issue in this case.5 points

Regarding the recent tragic events of the co-pilot that purposely flew the plane into the mountain killing 150 people, I got to thinking about something. It has been reported that the co-pilot possibly had some mental issues which may or may not be true as more facts come out. Either way he murdered those people. Had the guy used a gun to mass murder those same people, all the anti-gun folks would be whipped into a frenzy pushing their gun control agenda. So in this case why isn't the plane being targeted as the problem? Yes, I know the real answer but using their same logic, the plane must be the problem.4 points

I have been eyeing the Henry lever guns for some time now. I have a Marlin 336 30-30 and have had a 39a. I did not really like the 39a, so I sold it. Since then, I have been wanting a Henry. I pulled to trigger and bought a Henry Frontier model from Bud's over a month ago, but because of the winter storm and my work schedule, I was not able to take delivery until today. This particular offering is the blued 20" octagon barrel, painted receiver, and gold inlay branding. I am very happy with this rifle. For the price of these rifles, the fit and finish is amazing. The stocks are beautiful pieces of walnut. These rifles are made in America. There are no warning billboards on it, and there is no safety, as a lever gun should be. The action is smooth and was completely reliable during my short range session this morning. It shot about 200 LR and about 50 shorts with no malfunctions what so ever. I did not really check the rifle for accuracy, but I was able to ring a 14 inch plate at 100 yrds consistently and without difficulty. To this point, I can say this rifle is as advertised and is deserving of the plethora of the raving reviews that are found about these guns. It will not be my last Henry lever gun. Sorry for the grainy cell phone pics...2 points

Had a couple of great days fishing the beach this week down in Seagrove Beach. Caught this redfish that was just in the slot within 20 minutes of my line hitting the water. It's rare that you get to share such a treat with family and friends, but the meal that this fish provided was a true blessing - blackened redfish over smoked Gouda cheese grits.2 points

We had 7 adults and 9 kids down there. That redfish fed everyone. We made fish tacos with the pompano. We didn't want a single bite of the meat to go to waste, so we all ate until we were stuffed. We got to have some good conversations with a bunch of the kids, too - several of whom don't really come from sporting families. We got to talk about what it means to consume meat, and why some of us think it's important to participate in the food chain - how getting literal blood on our hands makes us more fully appreciate the proverbial blood each of us omnivores has on our hands. My oldest daughter and I have had this conversation before, and she really got it this time. It's neat because when we shared the meal that the redfish provided with our family and friends she really understood the almost sacred act that those meals represent to so many of us.2 points

The old saying "The squeaky wheel gets the grease" is very true especially in todays world and the Libs are way ahead on having THEIR conversation with America about Gun Control and their hatred of the NRA.2 points

I'll chime in. No we can't stop. This forum is extremely quiet on the state of affairs. We've been run over and haven't barely raised a stink. If we don't start talking about things, he deal will be sealed in two years and no one will question it. Here is plenty of evidence of what is going on, illegal, immoral and treasonous behavior in the powers that be including the media. We didn't bat an eye when we were told that millions of voters stayed home. (I don't believe it, the cover up began years earlier). Personally I think it's too late, but better late than never. While it's nice to ignore reality, we can't ignore the results. In not trying to start the conversation, but I don't think it should be quashed.2 points

I think some of you need to get out and get some air. I am getting more tired of the complaining about Liberals than I am the Liberals complaining about guns. Not that a lot of it isn't warranted, but holy cow, you have to have something better to do with your time don't you? This was a tragedy. Everything doesn't have to be about Liberals and guns. Also, can we try use proper grammar and spelling when complaining Liberals are "to stupid to think for there selfs". It only takes a second to proof read.2 points

Because liberals are to stupid to think for there selfs so one of there (god's) has to tell them how to think. They like having private jets so they will not blame the plane2 points

I was fortunate to find some .22 a few weeks ago. Took my son to Nashville Armory for some friendly competition. He was looking a little glum at the end of the session because he had come close, but not beaten me yet. The game was to use the "dot torture" target and with a 10 round clip, see how far you can go before you run out of ammo. The trick is you have to hit them in order and you cannot proceed until you hit, i.e. you can't shoot #2 until you hit #1. The point is, I told him to look around and he could see all these big targets at 5 yds and less in the other lanes, he had been shooting at 2" circles at 7 yds. He got the point and a big smile. target http://pistol-training.com/drills/dot-torture2 points

I moved here from a state that doesn’t require a helmet. I just asked my wife if my motorcycle insurance went up or down when we moved here. She said “It went up a little; but not enough to matter; why?” The insurance costs and health care costs is BS from the people that want the government to look out for them.2 points

I have had several of the single-purpose MGW sight pushers over the years and have several of them right now. I am thinking seriously about the MGW Pro tool specifically because I need to install night sights on the new HK VP9 as well as a few older HKs whose Tritium vials have long since burned out. 1st - Looking for personal hands-on reviews. 2nd - Might be interested in just having someone assist with doing these for me if it's not cost prohibitive.1 point

No, the mags are usually between $38-45 a piece for the 15rd variety. Gougers are taking advantage of the popularity of the VP9 and the market shortage of mags to rape the buying public.1 point

You're going to have to go there sooner or later, or decide to get another job. Just suck it up and go next time. It'll get easier every time. You don't have to look at the gory stuff. You'll probably be surprised and discover that it's mostly stupid people in the ER with symptoms that should have been brought to a doctors office, like a cold, or some tweaker looking for some Oxy for his "hurting back". Be the guy that will do anything that needs to be done and you'll find that you will become the go-to guy, and you'll start getting promoted or at least make a name for yourself. If you are the guy that always tries to get out of tasks, you'll never go anywhere. My last job was as an IT manager where I hired, fired and promoted staff. I knew who the hard workers were and always gave them bigger raises, and put them on tasks that were high profile (and cooler) because I knew I could count on them.1 point

I posted this elsewhere, but wanted you all to see it: I may be making an error here, so you need to verify. The only VP9 magazines I have seen in the past week are $200. Bud's has P30 magazines for $37.17. An internet search came across a site showing that those would work with a VP9. http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/713072447/HK+MAGAZINE+P30+9MM+LUGER+15+RD If all of this is correct, this is a deal you don't want to miss.1 point

Here is a list of the helmet laws by state. Most had mandatory laws that were later changed. I lived in Illinois and Florida both went from mandatory to what they are now. ABATE is the best group to work with and they know how to "get it done".1 point

Was coming home from an 8 hour road trip, come across a check point right near the house and when I finally got up to the row of deputies, I wound up with a young deputy and he waved me through, I asked what the checkpoint was about and he (hesitantly) said a seatbelt check. He was irritated that they were doing this from what I could sense and see in his eyes. Rightfully so, it was ugly situation in this great country. Ive got a some pretty patriotic LEO's in my community and I've wondered how many of them are members here.1 point

Depends on the finish on the pistol. It will be in the raw on each side of the cut. So cold blue or touch up will be needed. Also the firing pin stop will need to be a flat top or ground flat on top to allow it to not to have the slide drag due to the cut for the rear sight. It cuts deep into the rear of the slide. Just look at pictures and you will see. The FPS for the high power is a PIA to get back in and they break easily. Make sure you gunsmith knows to shave the top.1 point

I was a cop when Illinois passed the seat belt law. Most cops were against it because we weren’t going to wear them. They assured everyone that they couldn’t be used for PC for a stop, and the only time they could be written was in an accident or with a stop for another violation. That didn’t last long. I didn’t wear a seatbelt on patrol and I never wrote a seatbelt ticket. I did use seatbelts in my personal vehicle and still today always wear one. I feel the same way about helmets. In TN I have to carry two helmets. A full face for on the highway and a lid for in-town riding. In heavy traffic you can’t afford to have anything obstructing your view or hearing even a little bit. I’m responsible for my safety and if I feel I don’t want a helmet on; that should be the end of it.1 point

I can attest to what Jaymc is saying, bought it on a sweet deal from a LGS ($500 NIB) near Ft Campbell and I absolutely love it. The ergonomics of it (swappable backstrap and sides of the grip), the night sights that come stock, the trigger and the out of the box accuracy are something to write home about for a pistol in that place range. My wife didnt enjoy pistols until I picked this up, she fired it a few times and I have yet to get it back1 point

I generally think of a knife as more a 'tool' than a 'weapon'. I have zero experience or training in knife fighting. If someone had me cornered with no way out, my life in danger and my only choices were to try strong language or get stabby, I'd have to choose the latter option and hope but that isn't my main focus for a knife. I do like the idea of carrying a small, fixed blade because it eliminates the potential 'weak point' of a folder - the spot where it folds. The problem I find is that a lot of neck knives, etc. run into the problem of being pretty thin and I wanted a heavier blade. What I ended up doing was getting an inexpensive knife from the Buck Packlite line and making my own kydex sheath. I wanted horizontal carry just for ease of concealment as well as keeping the knife out of my way. Because when I can carry I have a handgun on my right hip or in my right pocket, I wanted to keep that area clear. Also, because if I carry a semiauto I have a spare mag on the left side I wanted to keep that area clear, too. By going with horizontal carry, I could have the knife SOB without it getting in the way when I sat down, etc. Therefore, my idea was to carry the knife SOB. I also did a woven paracord treatment on the 'skeletonized' grips. The Kydex I ordered was a little thicker than what I really needed which made it a bit harder to mold, etc. The texture came from heating the Kydex in a baking pan that was protected by laying the Kydex on a (previously used and therefore a little crumpled) sheet of aluminum foil. It bothered me a little, at first, but then I decided that it was a happy accident and I actually like the texture. Anyow, these were my results: Unfortunately, I did all of this shortly before having to have emergency surgery to remove a colon blockage that turned out to be a cancerous tumor. Due to my surgery scar still being tender and having a (hopefully reversible) colostomy, I am currently unable to wear a belt so, obviously, I can't carry a belt knife - meaning I haven't had a lot of opportunity to carry this one since making the sheath, etc. I can say it worked well during the limited opportunity I had to carry it and I will carry it some more once I can go back to wearing a belt.1 point

Disregard. I have one on the way. $470'ish with the various pieces I needed was a hard pill to swallow but in the long run it's often cheaper to buy the right tool than try to make something else do the job.1 point

We have an unofficial neighborhood watch program on our street. We all know each other, and the vehicles we drive. At least four of us on the street are home all day long, and we do rotate the position of cars so it doesn't look as if it's just parked and no one there. We all have our phone number in phones, and tend to watch traffic on the street. Since it is a dead end street, we watch them very carefully. I f a car or truck makes multiple passes thru, we alert the others. If it looks wrong, we call the local station and ask for a drive thru. And we try to note type and license numbers as well. We have had a couple of vehicles stopped and investigated this way. Actually caught one set of street thugs that had just hit a house nearby. And I have no weapons near any door or window. I have none in any cabinet nor in sight anywhere. Sure. You believe that...don't you.1 point

Like the WiKi Site "PRAG" Referenced in his post, if you read the entire Article?! Benchmade has Not manufactured any of their knives anywhere except the United States for about 5 years and the small amount of Red Class knives that may still be in the open market out there were only a small Fraction made for a very short time!!! That was one small amount that Benchmade Broke Away from because they Only wanted American Made Products, that Red Class didn't last long after Benchmade pulled away to open their Facility in Origan... Benchmade has Always had Top Tier First Class Customer Service, Including a Repair & Replacement Guarantee Like No Other Company, Period! They keep it simple and keep their Customers Happy with an Excellent Product Line that starts out with Great entry level knives that are priced accordingly, and Gradually step Up in Class with Different Materials being used to assemble a More Expensive knife with a Matching price to pay for those materials, and it Steps Up in Class all the way Up to the Gold Class Knives which are the Cream of the Crop in their product Line of knives, and the pricegrabber shows it too!!! Benchmade knives are Collected by More people in the US than any other knife, that I'm aware of? Benchmade has made a Reputible Name for them selves, and with such a Large Product Line here In the US and the Number of knives they sell yearly Here and abdroad, I say they are doing a Reeally Good job with their Business, especially when you consider they are making Production Knives like most knife Companies.. If I had to Guess, I would say that Benchmade & Spyderco sell & Manufacture More knives Yearly and the Most knives Yearly than any other Company in the Business!!! Why the Harshness towards Benchėmade "Willis"? They're just selling knives! Now Spyderco knives, if they aren't made in Golden Colorado, you can Bet it's made in Taiwan!? Tvvhey make knives all over this Big World Nice Ride BTW ?1 point
