I posted in an excitement induced haste before I realized that my response was somewhat exclusionary. The corrected response is... That's kind of like a good hammer... every self-respectin', God and Country Lovin', Constitution supportin', law abidin', Freedom lovin' American should have one. I in no way intended to leave out the Ladies that fall into this category. I just got excited.2 points

Yes, any new guns are sold with locks from the manufacturer, trigger lock or those you slide through the barrel, etc. That's not what I mean though. I'm talking about having some neat safety devices and lockboxes on display to showcase and hopefully gather interest, and to actually making it part of the conversation. For example, "congrats, enjoy your new Ruger. BTW: If you have kids how do you intend to keep the gun safe? We got these nifty little lockboxes..." etc. This law claims to prevent death by scaring gun owners. Well, it doesn't prevent death, it punishes death. Prevention involves more than punishment after the fact. As other said, there are already existing laws that can be applied. The fact that a reactive punishment is proposed rather than a proactive solution (like the requirement of locks to be sold with new guns) means to me that the proposer of this law cares less about children safety and more about "gun punishment". I don't know, maybe I'm thinking about this wrong. (my mind is weird sometimes). We tend to avoid hard proactive solutions in favor of easier reactive solutions, but pat ourselves on the back for doing something.2 points

I think the point is that there are already laws on the books that can take care of gross negligence. If you put a law on the books which targets gun owners it opens the door to greater restrictions. I also don't feel all cases are the same, if a kid goes in and actively seeks out a weapon, comes out and uses it as intended, it is much different than when a parent leaves a gun in a purse in a vehicle with kids unsupervised.2 points

I think it's a great idea. Once the ammo is spent, you have miniature nunchucks! Or, if you make the rope longer, and perhaps use piano wire, you now have a garrote! Your pistol has become multi-weapon tool! :D2 points
-
I actually agree with this idea. Safety is the most important part of owning a gun, and if takes the threat of judicial punishment to make certain people adhere to safety protocols that is fine by me. As a parent of a young child I have ensuring I dont just leave guns laying EVERYWHERE like I did when I was single - I couldnt imagine being able to cope with the guilt if something like that happens. Besides, if the Dems are allowed to push this we may get some political leeway in the way of taking down gun buster signs or getting ConCarry passed Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk2 points

I Hava a 226 Sao legion. My wife bought me. (She's a keeper!) See this post for my thoughts http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/94892-sig-p226-legion/ I'll put it up against a Kimber for fit and probably better function. If you already have the 229. I'd add the grips from hogue, and a little trigger work and the SRT kt and you're almost there for less. Not as pretty as the Kimberly 1911 but still cool.1 point

Our regular mailman retired about two months ago, he always was friendly and did a great job. Now with the new mailman, maybe it is my imagination but I don't seem to get the bulk junk mail we used to get. Not that I mind that but it makes me wonder what else he doesn't deliver.1 point

Don't get me started on the post office. I've had them tell me by taping up a pre paid bubble mailer that it voided the pre paid shipping. Unless if absolutely has to go via PO it's going Fedex or UPS.1 point

5 years ago I had a chance to trade an Ed Brown 1911 for a NIB Python with I believe a 2 inch Barrel. This gun was from Dallas Texas and was still in the plastic bag with oil, it was Blued I declined and 2 years later the man emailed me asking if I wanted to buy it outright for $3400.00, I declined and a few weeks later he sent me a screenshot of the pistol selling on Gun Broker for just under 4K This is one of those things in life where I wish I could go back and trade the 1911 for it I adore Colt revolvers they were very special in my opinion, if they ever decide to make new ones they will not be the same1 point

They are. And I assume Tennessee has criminal reckless conduct laws that can be used to prosecute people that allow kids to get guns. (But I don’t know that for sure; most states do) These are just laws people want to pass, because they can; they won’t get much (if any) opposition.1 point

I have TFO on a Sig P220 and after about 1500rnds no issues at all. The TFX Pro has a large Orange dot surrounding the tritium/fiber-optic insert. Looks a lot like the Trijicon HD. I am considering them for another gun as I like that BIG front dot. I will probably do so in the not too distant future. Go for it!1 point

I think it leaves your spare mag dangling wildly about beneath your handgun which makes it a moving target for you to try and grasp and properly index with your weak-hand in a mag change. There's a reason why most savvy shooters keep their spare mag in exactly the same spot on their belt every time they carry, with the front of the mag facing toward the front of their body, so that they can grab it, index it, and correctly insert it into the firearm in one very quick motion relying entirely on muscle memory. It's repeatable, every time. What you created is an Ammo Piñata. Maybe you'll catch it, maybe you won't. :)1 point

Diet The coyote is highly versatile in its choice of food, but is primarily carnivorous, with 90% of its diet consisting of animal matter. Prey species include bison, deer, sheep, rabbits, rodents, birds, amphibians (except toads), lizards, snakes, fish, crustaceans, and insects. Coyotes may be picky over the prey they target, as animals such as shrews, moles, and brown rats do not occur in their diet in proportion to their numbers. More unusual prey include fishers, young black bears, harp seals and rattlesnakes. Coyotes kill rattlesnakes mostly for food (but also to protect their pups at their dens) by teasing the snakes until they stretch out and then biting their heads and snapping and shaking the snakes. In Death Valley, coyotes may consume great quantities of hawkmoth caterpillars or beetles in the spring flowering months. Although coyotes prefer fresh meat, they will scavenge when the opportunity presents itself. Excluding the insects, fruit, and grass eaten, the coyote requires an estimated 600 g of food daily, or 250 kg annually. The coyote readily cannibalizes the carcasses of conspecifics, with coyote fat having been successfully used by coyote hunters as a lure or poisoned bait. The coyote's winter diet consists mainly of large ungulate carcasses, with very little vegetable matter. Rodent prey increases in importance during the spring, summer, and fall. The coyote feeds on a variety of different fruits, including blackberries, blueberries, peaches, pears, apples, prickly pears, chapotes, persimmons, and peanuts. Other vegetable foods include watermelon, cantaloupe, and carrots. During the winter and early spring, the coyote eats large quantities of grass, such as green wheat blades. It sometimes eats unusual items such as cotton cake, soybean meal, domestic animal droppings, and cultivated grain such as corn, wheat, and sorghum, and beans. Yes, they will take pets, sick or dying deer and young animals and birds on occasion. In urban and rural areas, road kill comprises a great deal of easily obtained food for the coyote and is on the top of their list as well as fruits and berries. Some WMA's and Wildlife Refuges strictly control the hunting of coyotes because the coyote's impact is so minimal on the environment, that special regulations to control them are not warranted. As far as hunting them at night even on private land is likely not to ever happen. For many reasons. And Mr. Dane; I do talk to a biologist on quite a regular basis. FYI Dave1 point

Do you really think ATF would let Taurus sell a SBS without a tax stamp? In short, no, it is not classified as a shotgun for a variety of niche reasons, since it is designed as a .45 pistol with a rifled bore that happens to also shoot .410, never had a buttstock, is not in a caliber over .5", etc. - OS1 point

My last renewal took less than two weeks. After finding a pistol I had to have yesaterday, I handed the salesman my drivers license and he had the TBI approval before I could complete the form. On several previous purchases the TBI approval has taken over an hour.1 point

I received a P226 SAO Legion from my wife as a gift and after shooting it a bit I thought I'd share my thoughts... The Legion branding is nice, but to me its just something additional, and not a reason to buy the gun. Reasons to buy the gun are: The factory trigger work and parts. The SAO trigger breaks right at 3.5lb on my example. Like all SIGs made now with MIM parts there is s slight caming of the hammer when the trigger is pulled. I can't imagine what the trigger will be like after several thousand rounds. Normally I can't resist a little action work on a gun, but this one doesn't need it and I'll be leaving it alone. The Grips, For shooting the grips are fantastic. The checkering is just right. Many guns today seem to have slippery grip finishes. These are really good. Maybe a bit aggressive for carry but could be toned down with a light scuff to take the sharp points off. The down side to the grips is that the bottom edge is VERY sharp, I took a nail file and knocked the edge off. You cant see it, but you sure can feel it! There is also an opening (See Pic) at the bottom rear of the grip that will allow dirt, lint, etc to get into the action. I will probably fill this with something in the near future. The Frame changes, The beaver tail is nice, but not a deal breaker for me. I have a couple of other SIG's and never missed it. The front strap checkering, and undercut are nice, the undercut is subtle but feels good. I don;t think I'm going to rush out and do this to my P220, or P229, but it is a nice add on. The Finish. PVD finish is hard and should wear well. PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) is the same method used to apply TiN coating to machine tool bits. This finish should not wear off in normal use. It is harder to apply than the standard Nitron finish and should wear three times better. Time will tell... Sig X-Ray sights. These are really Trijicon HD sights branded as Sig. They are truly great sights and I would highly recommend them to anyone that wants that Big dot out front. In the end you could make a nearly Legion copy by adding the Checkered Hogue grips, Trijicon HD sights, and having a good trigger job done. The finish and frame work are harder to duplicate, but it also could be added to a standard SIG. In the end you would spend a bit more even without the finish. I won't call it a bargain (no SIG is) but to get the same performance out of a standard SIG would cost you a bit more. If I already owned a SIG I wouldn't trade it on a Legion version, I'd make the additions to the gun I already have. One nice feature that I didn't realize I was getting is that on an SAO SIG the slide can be racked with the safety engaged. This makes clearing the gun a bit safer than it is with a 1911, or a SIG X-5 that locks the slide when the safety is engaged. For me the biggest disappointment is the gap at the bottom of the grip. I intend to shoot this gun a lot and It would be a shame to ruin all that nice action work with dirt and grit. When I fill it I'll let you know how I did it.1 point

Last year I wanted a glock 43, but to be sure I did spent a few days at the local range renting their 9's. We own a couple of glocks so I was sure I would be buying another glock. It came down to a glock 26, a glock 43 and the shield. In the end I got the shield. The shield just felt better and I had a tighter groups with the shield. I would still like to have a glock 43 but I do love my shield and am not in a hurry to get the glock 43.1 point

Anyone who thinks that they can escape out into the wilderness and live off the land by shooting squirrels and such, is making a huge mistake. In SHTF scenario the people who organize a well regulated militia based on a faith in God, or some kind of moral guidance, are going to survive. If you are going to be in a militia, you'll need an AR.1 point

I've been following the Texas open carry law change with some interest, and it seems at least on the surface, that more folks open carrying has lead to more businesses being posted. http://www.texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=82553 You can peruse some of the other threads, but the general gist is that businesses and the anti-gun folks have used open carry as an excuse to get businesses to post "no gun" signs that carry legal weight. I'm all for constitutional carry, but I'm afraid that the same thing will happen here if we don't have the sign issue addressed first.1 point

Did you forget that your fingerprints are on file and that you had to complete a full background check prior to receiving your permit? That bill isn't going to change anything for anyone. Whoever wants to carry is going to carry whether they have a permit or not, that's my point. Don't be afraid to see things objectively. I get your point, but you seem to trust people more than I do. With the proviso that some cargo pants offer greater flexibility with respect to pocket carry of handguns I'll offer my $00.02 worth of insight. The LC9 proved itself a bit to large for pocket carry by me. I found the same to be true of the Walther PPK/s, KT PF9 and Colt Detective Special. S&W 2" J Frame Airweights are doable but feel bulky. The Ruger LCP, KT P3AT & P-32 work agreeably. I've also pocket carried a Beretta Jetfire Model 950 in 25 ACP and a Baby Browning (Bauer) 25 ACP's. Now for some methodology; I tend to avoid wearing "tactical pants" and "cargo pants" because just like a fanny pack if your a guy of a certain age they highlight you as a probable gun carrier. I don't like that or want it, preferring instead to be the "grey man" in the back ground no one notices. There's a lot of merit to not drawing undue attention to oneself. So as much as I dislike pocket carry I find myself out and about with a LCP of proven reliability a lot more often than with a SA XDs9 or SR91 point
