  1. How 'bout a gift certificate to a local gun store? That way he can pick out what he wants. Welcome to the forum!

  2. I just had another thought. Why don't you take the handgun class with him? More quality time together and you can have protection when you're out alone.

  3. He must have been fast. I banned him with 10 minutes of joining. Your email by itself isn’t worth much. But, here’s a regular reminder to use a unique, strong password for email. And, as most cloud email providers support MFA - use it. It absolves us of a multitude of sins.

  4. I wouldn't buy a certificate at a particular shop. I'd make one, with the price on it you were willing to pay. That way he can find the best deal on what he ends up selecting! Love the Date at the range idea! You might even want to go one step further and make a weekend out of it. Bud's Gun Shop is in Sevierville and has one of the finest selections (and some of the best prices) in the South. They also have an indoor range. And there is also Smoky Mountain Knife Works, next door that also sales firearms. Why not rent a cabin or a hotel room for the weekend, in the Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville area! Just a thought. I know one cabin rental place that has half off specials, if you go online Christmas Day and rent from them. And welcome to the Forum!

  5. Fans of "The Tracey Ullman Show" -- a sketch comedy series that ran on Fox from 1987-1990 -- were in for a treat on April 19, 1987, though they may not have known it at the time. It was during that show that the first-ever "Simpsons" animation aired, with the almost two-minute-long "Good Night" short. As show producer James L. Brooks recently told The Hollywood Reporter, he wanted "Ullman" to feature short animated interstitials, and had liked Matt Groening's "Life in Hell" comics so well he invited the cartoonist to submit some ideas. Groening decided at the last minute to try a whole new idea, and quickly sketched up "The Simpsons," his take on a dysfunctional but ultimately loving family, and named many of the characters after his own family members. They've come a long way since: The earliest drawings were jumpy and crudely-drawn, and the while the characters' mouths looked like they might split their heads in half when they spoke, other visual characteristics (like hair) were essentially already in place. But many refinements were to come: It's hard to imagine the current Bart Simpson having pre-bedtime metaphysical discussions with today's Homer, for example. But it's easy to forget just how subversive the clips were at the time -- animation geared at a more adult audience had been gone from broadcast airwaves for many years, and the cynical, modern tone the show took to something as time-honored as tucking your kids into bed was brand new, even on the upstart Fox network.

  6. This is the same thing we’d suggest if your husband joined looking for a gun for you.

  7. Just wanted to throw out a big huge CONGRATULATIONS to 5 guys who have been students of mine in the past who achieved either Dark or Light Performance Pins this past weekend at Gabe White's Pistol Shooting Solutions class in Waverly TN. These guys all post here too from time to time so I also look at it an achievement for the whole TGO community. While I can't take all the credit for their performances , I hopefully at least inspired them if nothing else to work hard to improve their skills and struggle for perfection. So congrats to Miller_Man, Chances R , Aqil, Taylor, and Byrl (not sure as to his handle on TGO) You guys ROCK and make me proud. Keep up the good work. For those not familiar....http://www.gabewhitetraining.com/performance-awards/

  10. Finns scrubbed any marking there might be on the top of the receiver but usually left the ones under the tang alone. You can usually tell by what is there.

  12. You could build an electrolysis tank and remove the rust scientific like but it would remove the bluing as well...if that’s a concern at this point.

  13. True I also just bought a stripped m39 receiver that I have plans for but for this one I am just going to work on it for fun

  16. That's likely to do more harm than good. If not carefully done, it's easily possible to blow away parts of the action entirely. There's not much left in some places. Glass beads would work better to remove the corrosion than sand (AlOx) with less metal loss. That said, I'd probably do it by hand. You'll have more in the blast work than you paid for the rifle.

  17. Congrats, @Cruel Hand Luke!!! Awesome pistol wizardry as always! And I've got a bunch of photos and videos for you too. Hopefully it won't take me 80 years to get it organized and send you a link.

  18. Yes indeed, congrats to CHL on the turbo. Those times are based on the times of the elite shooters, and therefore those pins are definitely earned, not given, through dedicated practice in “ pistol marshal arts.” Also thanks to CHL for guiding and instruction in my journey of defensive pistol shooting. Gabe White is truly a professor in pistol shooting, both for competition and defensive use. It was a great class and getting to rub elbows with very skilled classmates, some known throughout the pistol community, was an awesome experience.

  20. Sad that these are no longer cheap and plentiful. I had an M44 about 8 years ago. Paid I think $140 or so for it. It was in great condition, and a blast to shoot. Wish I had kept it.

  21. In the 33 years we were married, my late wife only bought me one gun. I dearly loved the fact that she tried. But I didn't like it and we both ended up feeling bad about it. How about this. The both of you go gun shopping together. Go to a range that rents guns. Make a date of it, try some out and have a good time. You do some shooting too. Then let him pick what he wants. Aside from just a gift, you spend a bit of quality time together. In the end he'll remember and cherish that day with you. Who knows, you might find something you like as well.

  24. First, welcome to the group. What you're asking is like trying to pick out clothes for a teenage girl. The best bet is to let him pick it out.

  25. I don't like my LCP because I can't hit anything with it. Can't grip it properly. Newer ones supposed to be better. He kinda needs to feel one in his hands to get the right one, (I FEEL). Maybe super small isn't needed.

  26. I have a Windicator .357.. think I got it 5 years ago. Love it. Shoot mostly .38 out of it ... do to shooting indoors and even with great ear protection .357 rounds sound like a freaking canon going off... just be careful with your thumb...the cylinder release can take off a thumb nail if not careful

  28. Quavodus, have you considered buying a Rock Island revolver? They have a spurless snub .38 with fixed sights and wood grip that sells for about $250 new.

  29. Another odd one happened in CT a few months ago, where a certain gun shop was informed that their pistol config was in violation of the NFA. - mainly to skirt CT state law, the config was a brace on a pistol with 26" or more OAL, with added VFG, which made it a "firearm" . - BUT, they used a folding brace, and out of the blue, ATF decided that the over all measurement should be with the brace folded, which of course made the OAL less than 26", and hence with the VFG, it was an AOW. - Note that AFT measures rifles with a folding or extendable stock open to maximum length, so this determination is the exact opposite. https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2018/05/24/oal-brace-folded/ - OS
