We need to remember the GOOD things in life! You know, it has never really taken much effort to find bad news if you wanted to look for it, but lately it seems like you have to actually expend effort to find good news. I think that's a shame. To be very honest, I think if we quarantined the world's media for 30 days or so and no one heard from them during that time, all of us would be a heck of a lot happier at the end of it. Since we can't force a media black-out, I figured we could use this thread to post about the things are keeping us HAPPY these days. Share a photo or just share a story. Let's keep it apolitical and leave the memes to other threads. I want to know what is personal for YOU. Here's something that keeps me happy daily. This is maybe the first photo of my almost three-month old daughter outside of the delivery room. You'd never know by looking at her that this girl has a date with a surgeon later this year to repair a partially cleft soft palate or that she has to wear a blood-oxygen monitor on her foot around the clock, every day, because that cleft causes her to be at high risk for sleep apnea. She's the object of constant affection from her older brother and sister, and makes me and her mom smile from ear to ear. Alright... what's keeping you all happy lately?8 points

As an arm of the UN, I don’t support us funding it on general principles. I fully believe we should withdraw from the UN and expel it from our shores as an actively hostile entity and threat to US interests and national security.8 points

Yes, this goes in this thread. A few weeks there was a discussion here about working from home and I stated that between telehealth patients I was refinishing a Model 63 Winchester .22 rifle. Not a great picture, but here is the finished work. This rifle was created in 1952 (3 years before me!) and purchased by my Dad. I shot it all my life and it is a great rifle! Over time the forearm cracked and could not be repaired, and of course, original parts for a 1952 Winchester are long gone. A few months ago I started looking on the internet and found a walnut forend for this gun on eBay for $45!. I ordered it and a friend worked the forearm down to fitting more closely. Jeff Walle did the final fit and put a new spring that drives the action in the gun. (It only lasted 68 years!) The last task was to get the forearm color to match the stock. Despite trying different stains, nothing worked. Then I found that linseed oil darkened the forearm to the same color as the stock. By the time I finished all with TruOil you see the result. I'm pleased with the stock/forearm color match. Finally I touched up the bluing (originally done by my Dad) with Brownell's Oxpho Blue and you see the final result. A good use of my "work from home" time!5 points

I spend an inordinate amount of time away from home out in the truck. With the better weather as of late my wife has been sending me more pics of the kids as they are spending time playing outside together. Those pics and videos are what gets me through these weeks away from home. They let me see what I’m out here working for.4 points

Opposition to authoritarianism doesn’t make one a Democrat. It makes one a believer in the individuals rights and liberties acknowledged and enumerated in the constitution.3 points

I used "angry" because it is so true. We have to help out local stores as much as we can. It will mean paying a bit more, but your neighbor will be there when the need comes.3 points

What do you want him to do? If he said he made a terrible mistake and it was all his fault, you would have a problem with that. And what good would that do? Now its time for tough choices being made deciding between public health and our economy. People sitting on the sidelines who only contributions are ripping on Trump serve no purpose what’s ever. The Governors of each state in conjunction with our President will be making decisions that will result in the death of Americans no matter which way they go. We should all be supporting them and trying to be part of the solution instead of part of the problem. There will be plenty of time and plenty of Congressional investigations started by the likes of Pelsoi, Schiff, and Schumer, to keep you entertained for months when this is over.3 points

I'm thankful for the family reboot that is happening. My 21 y/o daughter is home from college. My 14&16 y/o son's lives were so busy with school and sports but now we are all at home spending time together, time that I never thought would happen again. Yes the current world situation sucks but hearing my 3 almost grown kids laughing and having fun together is pretty nice.2 points

David, that’s a beautiful little girl, keep her safe. What make me happy is my family and the knowledge that my God is in control of my life and I just need to remember to surrender control to Him each and every day.2 points

There is only one thing better than the beautiful smile of a child, the beautiful innocent laughter tops it for me. I am a happy guy, pretty much all the time (after appropriate amount of coffee). I am living a great life, with a great wife and son. I have my faith, my family and my friends that bring joy to and warm my heart. Yes there are material things that I have and enjoy, guns and motorcycles, but my life is completed by the people in it.2 points

Good idea David. Beautiful daughter too. I'm happy because my wife and I both have jobs. On top of that my job is paying me 20% extra for hazard pay even though they are letting me work from home. We got a full price offer the 2nd day our home was on the market. Just waiting to close on the 29th. Happy to be selling while prices are so high. I'm also thankful for our health and the fact that my high risk dad has avoided catching COVID.2 points

Favorite rifle: Henry H001. I don't have the history that most folk here do, but I bought the gun in 2009 when i first moved here & I lost my round a long time ago. I'd rough estimate 200k+ I've recently acquired am old Marlin model 25 &so far it's amazing. Smooth, accurate, fun to shoot & deadly on bottle caps! Pistol: I'm really digging this new Ruger Wrangler, but the finest I ever owned was a Ruger Standard (pre-mark) I regret selling that one hard.......2 points

We have derailed this thread but I had to laugh at Amash being called a democrat. That might be most factually wrong statement I've ever read on this forum. Even 15 seconds worth of research would have revealed this. opposes abortion voted to repeal Obamacare Introduced an amendment that would require a balanced budget pro 2nd amendment- he was a founding member of the 2nd Amendment caucus. routinely speaks out against NSA surveillance programs "I follow a set of principles. I follow the Constitution. And that's what I base my votes on. Limited government, economic freedom, and individual liberty." Justin Amash Sounds like such a liberal..... If people would be honest with themselves they would probably love this guy as president.2 points

I would generally agree with this statement but there is a small flaw in it. The way our political parties work, they reward extremism and employee purity tests. The country isn’t split evenly between Republicans and Democrats. You increasingly have the Republicans on one end, the Democrats on the other, and then a whole mess of folks bigger than either of those other two groups stuck in the middle. It wouldn’t be completely out of the realm of possibilities for the right person to come in and gather up those people under the umbrella of “those other folks are bloody lunatics!”2 points

Perhaps that is exactly what it was designed to do. Remember, these places have been sitting on major stockpiles of cheap guns and ammo, ever since Trump beat the pants suit off Hillary over 3 years ago. I can't think of a better way to move it all.... And at a tidy profit as well.2 points

My kids and I were walking in our neighborhood the other day. Being in Brentwood, the back of my neighborhood is home to a bunch of turkeys that no one seems to have told that spring turkey season is going on. They’re safe and fat. Anyway, my kids and I were walking and came upon about 30 hens and two big toms who were all out in full strut. My 8 year old gobbled at them - not expecting a reaction - and you’ve never heard such a ruckus. They were so mad at him. He was kind of hidden by a bush, and the toms came to investigate. It was great once he realized they were coming his way - at which point he lost his nerve and high tailed it down the street. His sisters laughed all the way home.1 point

There is nothing that I can do about the current situation. I'm enjoying being at home more. I'm getting some turkey hunting done, doing some fishing, I'm in the process of putting in a garden. I have a ton of ash to cut, split, and stack for next winter. Other than not getting to see a few people that I would like to see I'm making the best of it and enjoying three slower pace.1 point

I'm not sure I'm happy but I am thankful. New granddaughter that I'm staying away from, I still have some work, one bodaciously strong wife who's put up with me for 43 years, food in the freezer, and all the ammo I might need. Sometimes you just have to trust the words of George Harrison.....all things will pass. Hang in there guys.1 point

This. Deerslayer, My explanation was answering Trekbike’s question. I was explaining for the non cross dominant people what cross dominant people are dealing with and why it is a problem and why it effects their shooting when it is an undiagnosed condition. Just like I said in the earlier post once We determined the student was cross dominant and I showed him how to mitigate that condition he shot very well. But he had been dealing with this for 40 years and as of yet had not yet considered (nor even heard of ) the possibility that he was “aiming with the wrong eye”. If you are cross dominant and you have already figured it out then you are that far ahead of those who still cannot figure out why they seem to be doing all the mechanics right but are still not getting the results they want . It could be that they just have a cross dominant vision issue that has gone undetected and undiagnosed.1 point

I agree. I can think of two Democrats that could probably give Trump a run for his money. But they aren’t running….yet. Gun control would be a major stumbling block for any democrat wanting that middle ground.1 point

Maybe. I didn't think Trump could beat Clinton in the last election. Well...someone who can out-tweet Trump. At least he spelled everything right and used complete sentences. I wish for that day. Candidate D and Candidate R both show themselves to be despicable and then Candidate I comes in as a reasonable alternative and secure enough of the "non-voters" to win.1 point

I couldn't agree more. Not only is it a WHOLE lot easier to employ some simple bio-mechanics to reposition the handgun instead of trying to remove genetic dominance reinforced by decades of life, most handguns are configured for right-handed shooters and can't easily be converted to lefty models. Forcing left-handed shooting will severely limit the choices of handguns and to me, would take all the fun out of it. It's no fun to keep doing something over and over again and still suck at it. I don't think after years of shooting lefty I'd every get as good as I am shooting righty with a shift to my left eye. I'm no Hickock45, but I do alright. Switching hands might work well for some, especially someone who has some reasonable coordination in their off-hand, but someone who insists shooting off-hand is the first and only solution should be forced to sit down and transcribe the Encyclopedia Britannica using only their off-hand. By the time they get to volume D they might write mostly legibly, but it will never look as good as their dominant-handed writing. Or maybe play piano but reverse the octaves played by each hand. Good luck with that. I'm not a doctor, neuroscientist, or an instructor but I know what works for me. If someone hadn't told me about cross-dominance I never would have figured it out.1 point

I agree. That’s why I have said I don’t like him as a person. But he is a great President. We wanted a President that wasn’t a politician. That’s exactly what we got and prior to this, a booming economy to go along with it. I know you don’t think that economy would have continued, but he is a proven perform so far. I wish he would stop using Twitter. I wish he would quit making statements like “The Presidents power is absolute!” I wish he wouldn’t bait the idiots at the press conferences. But none of those things have any impact…none. I don’t know if he will be reelected, I can only pray that happens. I don’t understand how anyone, even a liberal, could let their hatred of Trump cause them to vote for any of the Democrat candidates we have now. And voting for anyone other than a Republican or Democrat is senseless. But then I never thought Americans would come that close to running a socialist. We are getting ready to either take an even bigger hit on our economy, kill a bunch of Americans, or both. All Americans should be concerned with that instead of dragging up old tweets from Trump. We all know he said those things. We all know he sometimes says stupid things; and we know why.1 point

That was a screw-up on the part of the BATF. They are incompetent at interpreting the law and we all always knew that. But let those clowns make a decision gun owners agree with and when they get put in their place because they are inept it’s, “oh my gosh this is terrible”. Braces are illegal. They turn a pistol into an SBR. Will that matter? Of course not. Not until there is a reason to call on the President or Congress to fix their mistake. Only Congress should be able to make or change a law that can land you in jail if you comply with it. They even tell you their rulings don’t have the force of law, and for you to proceed at your own risk.1 point

Update. Nice day to shoot! So this is Tula FMJ play ammo run threw the Mec Gar 15 round mag. Bottom is 10 yards off hand 10 second rapid fire while the top is shot off the bench. I don't use my bifocals shooting despite the blur of the target (lesser of the 2 evils). So for me the FEG is a nice target toy now. Having good sights as you get into your 60's is much more an item than ever! Only thing golden about these years is getting paid to breath air. LOL1 point

The basic story is at some point Sadam Husain ticked off FN and he couldn't get them to sell him their Hi Power pistols. So, he went to FEG and paid them to make him a contract run with all FN marks and Belgian proofs. since the patent had long expired on the pistol license of manufacture, FEG could do what ever they wanted to make Sadam happy. The ring hammers were a big give away and SN's were FEG specific. One story goes that Israel ended up with a number of these and exported them with and without Israeli markings. Some were even sold threw GI PX's in Germany decades ago. Mine has no importer markings any where other than the Belgian proofs. The quality of build is not going to be Browning or FN but certainly better than some military pistols built from around the world. I think the history of these guns is pretty cool. God knows where this pistol has been since it left the factory for the Republican Guard....maybe?1 point

Rifle: My favorite is my German Sport Guns that Mr. Kalashnikov licensed for them to make. Fun to shoot but is it's recommended to use high velocity or hyper velocity rounds, although it will run on bulk pack stuff if you're willing to deal with some FTE's. Runs well enough on CCI Mini Mags. Handgun: My Ruger Super Single Six convertible that I've had for 40 years.1 point
