It is 3 days of intensive shooting and classroom work in learning (as Tom Givens refers to it) The Gospel of the Gauge. Pic shows Tom presenting me with my class certificate and Top Gun award for highest aggregate score in class.

  4. Ok, my main sporter is a Browning Citori, I let the tall guy from the gun shop youtube talk me down that route with the Japanese made Browning. I invested in that, it's my gun! That said, doesn't mean I don't want to see what the other manufacturers have to offer. In this case I managed a shipping trade. I was trying to move a 20G Franchi Reniassance I got on this forum, on a whim I offered an even swap for someone on the auction site with this Beretta Model S685 in what looked to be near new condition. They accepted, which shocked and worried me, but they were a registered FFL, everything checked out, and they documented the gun with a ton of pictures (like the last one I got on there). So I figured, I was probably going to have my O/U on here for a long time so I might as well see about this trade and make it work. I managed to complete the transaction though it took a while. I shipped first, he received, then he shipped to me. I just picked the gun up today after a couple weeks and it looks exactly like the photos! It actually still had some of the factory grease in some corners! So once again, I cleaned it up, snapped some photos and here we go, you be the judge! The model S685 is definitely an interesting one, it's a 'low-end' Beretta, I don't know if it is a 'pre-cursor' to or just a cheaper version of but is closely related (it seems from appearance) to the standard 686 with a few exceptions. The first and foremost bing this gun has 'lifters' or 'extractors' and not ejectors. Honestly I don't mind this as I'm not great at catching ejected shells yet. It also has the automatic safety catch in it, which none of my other O/U's have (but the Franchi did as it was also a field version). This one has fixed F over M chokes in the barrels. The model was discontinued in 1986, I just found the date code and this one is a 1985 model, which is a significant year for me, so now I'm definitely in love with this pick-up. Other big difference which you can kind of see in the pictures is there is quite a bit of right hand cant. The Browning's I have are much more straight, or at least you don't notice quite as much angle. I've only shouldered the gun a few times, it seems pretty comfortable, my whole grip feels more compact. I probably watch too much TGS on youtube but you can feel that there is definitely more of something in this thing... style? class? I don't really know but it definitely is less 'tool' than the browning but is still the most 'tool' version of a Beretta O/U I think you can get. Also, I am converting my Benelli M2 Field 28" from the comfort tech stock and forend to wood. I noticed they sell wood finished M2's over seas and you can get the parts so I found a discount stock on ebay and forend. As I was putting the gun together I dropped the wood forend and you can see what happened in the pictures. I have a new one on order and am gluing this one but darn what an expensive mistake. I'll post pictures when it is done in a week or so.

  7. It was everything you said, and more. The memorial for Tyre was held a few weeks ago. It was on the local news and much smaller. Yesterday was a show to drum up support for the Floyd bill and to keep these issues in the national spotlight. If people weren’t making noise, who would have paid attention to this case? I’m no fan of Al Sharpton, but he’s an activist. Everything he’s doing is his job. I despise Steve Bannon, but getting people angry and pissing other people off is his job. Neither would be successful if they weren’t effective.

  9. Selling my CZ PCR (Police Czech Republic). This is a DA/SA (decocker) 9mm with 2 15 rd mags, factory box, paperwork, etc. Probably only has around 50 rounds through it, maybe less. This is aluminum frame with a cold hammer forged barrel. Sights are luminescent, but not tritium. In the third picture I try to show some slight marring of the finish around the rear sight which is the only defect as far as I can tell. Looking for $550 or equivalent trade value.

  10. In all fairness, back when this thread started Tisas were relatively new to the market. At that time, they weren't much. But now, 9 years later, Tisas makes a good, reliable and inexpensive gun. So the OP may very well have been right. But times and Tisas have changed.

  12. So, I had this surplus German 7.62 ammo for years now, leftovers from when I had a FAL and a PTR. But after debating about another ptr or going the AR 10 route, I can firmly say I regret going the ar10 route. Man, this thing weights a ton. Shoots well though. Now I just need to find a good optic for it. BCA BC 10. 18in barrel. I replaced the trigger, grip and stock day one (why? Because I wanted to). I will probably replace the stock again.

  13. My biggest thing is that by going from a pistol to an SBR, I am now crippled on transporting, crossing state lines, vehicle carry, and carry ability with my current HCP. I prefer to keep them in pistol status and wait this thing out. I got used to the Uzi push/pull sling method before the brace and if necessary will go back to that method.

  14. I expect the Lautenburg Amendment to fall for the same reasonings. Like most gun laws in this country. I won’t pretend that this doesn’t elevate risk to some folks who find themselves in these situations. It would be ridiculous to do so. That said, it’s also not like those restraining orders actually did anything to stop folks who sought to do harm. They’re just pieces of paper after all.

  17. As I recall I used ATF and put in the description for FBI card whatever the number is of the card they use. It was shown in the description. It had me choose off a map the office closest to me by zip code. I chose a UPS store / date / time. When I arrived the employee pointed to a device sitting on a table and said just sit down and hit start. After a few demo screens I was prompted to get an employee to verify my credentials, they then put in a code to get me going. I was prompted to do the finger tips and thumbs and then moved on to rolling prints. I can tell you that I had a heck of a time getting it to read my prints, they at first just would not show up on the screen. I had other employees come over and theirs appeared instantly. We called the company and a person tried to help me while they viewed the screen remotely. There is a metal frame that surrounds the pad that reads your print, you must contact that metal band while your finger is on the screen. Nothing was working for me, the guy on the phone wanted me to stop and just get paper ones done. It finally hit me, if everyone else in there could do it and I was having so much trouble maybe my skin on my lower fingers was just to dry for it to know I was making contact with the metal band. I put some of that pink paper grip stuff on my lower fingers near the palm and it worked perfectly. Lesson learned…..the guy on the phone with the company said “ Ya know, we just have some people this won’t work on but I think you just solved our problem.”

  20. There are a lot, but anymore the #1 thing that seems to be lacking is the ability of kids to cope with adversity and failure. They need to learn how to deal with adversity and failure and even understand what is even worth caring about. Failure is a great teacher. Putting them in positions to fail is not all bad. They need to then use some reasoning to figure out why they failed and how they can improve next time regardless of the scenario.

  21. This shotgun works great, it cycles perfectly and shoots straight. It does have a removable choke and the barrel is 28". The metal work is in excellent condition, no rust or blemishes. The stock and forearm are walnut and in very good condition for the age, obviously a few little dings as you can see in the photo. The only fault with the gun is that the forend wiggles a little bit , which any DIY er could probably fix in a heart beat. Overall a good little shotgun at a bargain price.

This retails between 430 and 480 online. It is built like a tank and can handle anything. Obviously rifle not included.

The way it was explained to me 25 years ago when I got my Class 3 dealers license is an NFA firearm can be possessed by the executor of your estate and transferred by the executor to an heir named in your will on a form 5 with no transfer tax. This was 25 years ago and may have been changed but my guess is it still works this way.

  24. I have a Henry Model H001 Lever action for sale. While I am in the lever collection mode at the moment, I just have too many 22LR rifles at the moment. This one drew the short straw. I picked this up from Hipower back in 2021. I have the box and all. I have put maybe 100 rounds down the barrel. It's a great shooting little rifle. $350 $325 in and around Nashville. Quick price drop. I see they are new for about $350 plus tax and background.

  32. Why would Baldwin not be responsible, actor or not? If you are a barber, plumber, or cab driver and someone hands you a gun do you feel that you do not need to check the gun because an FBI agent handed you the gun and told you it was OK? Baldwin wasn't handed a pencil. He was handed a dangerous instrument, a real gun, not a prop gun, knew it wasn't a prop gun, and without checking the gun for safety, he pointed it and pulled the trigger. If that's not negligence, nothing is. He killed one person and badly wounded another. He certainly deserves to be tried for his negligence.

  33. A lot of your post was accurate but you missed the mark on this part. I don’t recall these violent protests. I remember the city being peaceful by the national standard of the time. As for the hiring standards, nothing has changed since she took control in June of 2021. And all of the officers involved were hired between March 2017 and August 2020, nearly a year before her tenure began. I have no problem lambasting her for any role she played, but it’s not necessary to throw dirt on her that she didn’t earn. She’s earned enough on her own.

  37. Another housewife joining in. Since we’re discussing rumors, I’ll join in. For the past week there have been rumors that the deceased was romantically involved with one of the former officer’s lady friends. No proof of this, and none of the former cops are married. There is also rumor that these are the same cops who robbed an individual at a Poplar Ave hotel recently. No proof of that. Lastly there is a local news story where a gentleman has photos of the unit (same guys) after they accosted him a few days prior to the death of Nichols at a gas station on Ridgeway and Quince looking for a pound of dope. The individual was a passenger in a vehicle and had exited the vehicle to go across the street to pick up a pizza while the driver purchased fuel. The individual claims in the news story that he was released after stating he didn’t have drugs and wanted to contact his lawyer. The cops stated to the individual there was no reason to get lawyers involved, and said they were joking about the drugs, then released the individual. A complaint was filed with IAD twice and garnered zero response. As for the reckless driving. Chief Davis just did a live interview stating that the police department looked at multiple nearby traffic cams, pole cams, business cams and body cams and could find no evidence that Nichols was involved in reckless driving or driving on the wrong side of the road. Hence the chief saying the things she said about the behavior of her officers. The chief said the video would be released at 6pm on YouTube and memphistn.gov. The video will be about a hour long with footage from 3-4 cameras. Video will be from body cams, pole cam and dash cams. The video will show the officers initial contact with Nichols at a 10 on a scale of 1-10. There will be tasers and oc spray deployed and poor attempts to handcuff Nichols by several individuals. The video will show the second contact very clearly via pole cam that was brutality violent that lead to Nichols injuries. The video will show Nichols asking “what did I do” and saying something about his mother. The video will also show the cops attempting to sit Nichols up a couple of times, then slumping over and mumbling. Lastly, the video will show lapses in time of the cops failing to render or call for aid and first responders delaying aid and milling about upon their arrival. The chief said the only thing s redacted from the the video are license tags of nearby vehicles and some individuals. There are several fire and pd employees currently under investigation. So the former cops weren’t thrown under the bus. The city, county and police department were being transparent as they promised the citizens of Shelby County they would be when they put Davis in charge. Some people think the three weeks for charges was too slow and others believe the charges were abnormally fast. I’m the latter, but I believe it’s a good thing. At the end of the day, no traffic stop should end in this manner. As far as riots, I expect more of the agitators will be outsiders and the usual local unruly violators. Most Memphians are very vocal about wanting to peacefully protest, but not wanting to tear up the city. We will see.

  38. To be honest, no one needs to see the video except the Prosecutors, jury, and family. All showing it does is initiate the next killing of someone innocent, whether that be a person or cop. This is not a special situation. It happens every day to thousands of people, but this one fits into a narrative.

  40. On Sunday July 17 2022 I (along with my assistant instructor at Harris Combative Strategies AJ Holst and Al Swymer ) attended John Hearne’s (Two Pillars Training- https://www.facebook.com/TwoPillarsTraining/) Cognitive Pistol with Tactical Anatomy class at Royal Range in Nashville TN. This is the shooting part of John’s Who Wins, Who Loses, and Why” class. In that class was offered on Saturday but AJ and AL and I had all done that one back in February when John and I teamed up to teach a combo class called “Saving Your Life with a Pistol, What Matters and What Doesn’t “ in Dayton TN where he did the 8 hour “Who wins” lecture and I covered the shooting (and low light shooting) portions of that class. So we were just there for Sunday this time. This is not a “teaching you to shoot better” class. It is a teaching you where to shoot and how to think with a gun in your hand (or in your holster). Everyone can easily find classes to teach them how to shoot but not everyone teaches how to make better decisions under stress or cognitive load. That is what this one is all about. This is not going to be an exhaustive review, but we essentially covered classroom material on “Tactical Anatomy” which is what shot placement tends to get best results in making people stop what they are doing (as much as that can be done with a pistol) and John provided some videos of why what you have been conditioned to think about the effectiveness of certain firearms through TV and movies is not how they work for real. Essentially pistols are pathetic little pop guns that require correct bullet placement (and often several of them) to FORCE someone to stop. Half (or more) of the time when people stop what they are doing when shot with a pistol it is because they simply CHOOSE to stop. The bullet did not stop them. That is why we sometimes see dedicated opponents fighting on after being shot numerous times. So it is best to plan for the worst and pray for the best case. On the range we shot a few “ pulse check” drills so John could get a feel for the shooting ability of the class. This was a high achieving class with several people I either know personally or by reputation or have been in class with before. Some of these were Aqil Qadir of Rangemaster and Citizens Safety Academy and Chris Baker of Lucky Gunner . Not sure who else wants to be named so I’ll stick to just those guys and my crew. Because of the high level of gun handling and accuracy shown by the whole group John was able to push the curriculum a little faster than normal. We did numerous drills that all started with a visual cue instead of an audio cue. That is important as you are generally LOOKING for someone’s actions to cause you to draw not listening for an audio cue like a shot timer. John employed turning targets and a light system (with a roving light bearer) so you would have to scan for visual info on when and how many rounds to shoot. In the Anatomy department we used 3D targets to see what track bullets take from different angles. John used metal rods to show the wound tracks and angles from entrance wound to exit on the TacMan targets. He also included an anatomical overlay on the back and a “spine” One of the pics I have included shows 9 holes (3 groups of 3 ) that I shot from different angles to the target and all 9 perforated the “spine”. If you are to one side or the other of the target you will need to aim differently than if you are facing it straight on. At those angles aiming at the sternum would have simply cut through the other pectoral muscle but aiming at the close side pec punched through heart lungs and spine. We also did a block on safely moving around others with a gun in hand and did a man vs man shoot on steel with the go signal being the appropriate colored light. We finished up with a run on the Farnam spinner target which is harder to spin than it looks.....at least my reload was fast... All in all it was a great presentation from a good friend of mine and an opportunity to shoot drills that you cannot get just anywhere and was held at a world class facility. If you are at the level where you are looking for a class that teaches you how to think with a gun and where to shoot for best results and then testing those skills then catch John’s class when he comes to your area. And just in case you were wondering I get no monetary consideration for this review and in fact I paid to attend the class. Pics and videos can be found here......https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=147999101186068&set=pcb.148017177850927
