  5. After the safety stuff is covered - For someone looking to carry: Understand the legal burden they're taking on by carrying a firearm. They need to understand the laws, where they can and can't carry, when they can and can't use their weapon, and what they're likely going to face if they ever do need to. Be honest with themselves. Are they willing to take the life of another human being? Are they a hothead who's likely to escalate situations? If they can't come to terms with reality, do not proceed down this path. Try several. Go to the range with a friend who has a variety, or rent them if they must. Single stacks Double stacks Strikers Hammers Revolvers Choose something they'll actually carry. A steel frame full size with cushy Hogue grips is more comfortable to shoot, but that doesn't make it a great carry gun for most people. Invest in a quality holster. Borrow some to try different brands and configurations if possible. Depending on the weight of the gun, probably a quality belt too. Practice. A lot. For someone who just wants to shoot at a range or plink on a farm: .22LR pistol like a Sig Mosquito, Walther P-22, etc. Great beginner gun. Lower cost than comparable guns Similar operation as larger caliber pistols. Cheaper to feed Easy to shoot and learn the proper way to shoot without developing bad habits like anticipating recoil and flinching.

  6. In may opinion, it’s approached in a manner that doesn’t sugarcoat history. There’s some dramatization, but there are also lots of verifiable facts. For example, they touch on the atrocities committed by King Leopold in the Congo. I’ve read about and watched documentaries in the past that gave me the impression Leopold was equal to or worse than Hitler. There’s a story (not in this series) of Leopoldo’s men forcing natives to tie ropes around their bodies and swing from a cliff using vines, across a valley to another cliff in order to build a bridge. If the natives were afraid, they were executed on the spot. There’s a lot going on, and I don’t feel like I can adequately explain the series by typing a few words here. For example, they talk about the strategic and tactical advantage tribes had against the English in one battle. A battle that tribesmen might have won in the past when both armies were using smooth bore guns. In this particular battle, the British annihilated the native tribesmen, because the British started employing German made machine guns in battle. The battle wasn’t even close. Again, there’s a lot going on. Also, I’m not a person who avoids certain things on television based upon politics, so I’m not looking for an agenda. I process the information, then form my own opinion.

  7. If you have a super tuned extractor it makes sense, but for 99% of us it's not an issue on a Glock or something like that.

  9. I don't do that as a matter of routine for the reasons he gives. But I don't worry about it if the slide drops on an empty chamber every now and then.

  12. Good evening all you collectors of S&Ws. I have here tonight a Smith and Wesson Model 39 (serial number 8842) which I believe was manufactured around 1960 give or take a year. This specimen is in excellent shape. Really overall a great find. What makes this one even more unique is that the original box is included in the sale along with its two magazines shipped from the factory. As you history buffs know, this model 39 was the first commercial 9mm double action semi auto pistol made in the USA. Up till then you had to import a german or other foreign made handgun, how unpatriotic. But now, you can flex your patriotism with this unique and beautiful piece just begging to come join your growing S&W collection. Asking $800, reasonable offers considered

  13. I pride myself in never getting sick but here I am coughing my head off. Nose is just running water and I go between the chills and sweating like I'm hauling hay. At least it's not in my chest or anything. Who else has got this crap in the new year.

  14. This is what I do with every new gun I get to help break it in. Sit on the couch and cycle the slide a couple hundred times.

  15. It's an interesting mental exercise, but I don't own a 1911 and although I've been doing it for decades, I don't think I do so frequently enough to worry myself. But what do I'm know, I'm also that idiot who doesn't avoid stepping on cracks at the risk of breaking my poor mother's back.

  19. I'll give you a brief rundown. Two groups of bad people who ruled over people who just wanted to be left alone. Fought a war against bad people who ruled over people who just wanted to be left alone. One group won. That group wrote the history that showed the other group was bad and they were good. A few hundred/thousand years later the group that wrote history is now saying they were bad and the other bad group was good. Apply this to any conflict you choose.

  23. Since Grayfox bought it up, I just bought a Girsan MPC35 and am pleased with the quality and the way it shoots. I got mine off Gunbroker by the time I paid for everything taxes transfer fee and bought 2extra mags I was close to $700.00. It came with one mag. I got the full size match with straight trigger no mag safety.

  24. I don't do it. Pistols are designed to use the loading round as sort of a buffer to slow down the slide. On an empty chamber, you're slamming steel on steel. However, I've never heard of a gun being damaged by it either. I guess if you did it a lot? I can tell you for absolute fact that dropping a round in the open chamber of a 1911 and releasing the slide on it will damage the extractor. I learned that one the hard way many years ago. As for the wrist flip on a revolver, over time it can affect the crane alignment. Not good.

  25. I never let the slide slam home on an empty chamber AND I don't use the slide-stop as a "slide release". One time I saw a gun store employee at a very nice well known store in Camden sitting behind the counter locking the slide back on a pistol and then pushing the slide-stop and letting the slide slam home. He did it over and over. I just think it's not good to do that on any gun that is not yours. I'm sure the innards on the 1911's are more susceptible to damage by this action but there's no need to do this to any gun in my opinion. Also , like he said with the revolvers , I agree 100% that it's stupid to jerk a revolver and slam the cylinder inward to lock it. But this is just my opinion.

  26. Agreed. Coaches and players have largely become mercenaries. In a world of what appears to be limitless money, a man's word is worth very little. Sad commentary on the state of our world.

  27. Ask your work if they use split tunnel DNS. That means that traffic destined for the internet routes through your internet pipe and only the work stuff goes through the VPN. That's how most places do it. The fiber will make all things better. That upgrade will be the difference between a musket and a M249.

  28. If you cant find a fit at any of the excellent craftsmen mentioned above, I can thread your AK/M in M14x1LH with the front sight post using a bore-centric Thread Alignment Tool. My first choice is always a lathe, but sometimes pressed and populated barrel assemblies don't give you that luxury. I've done a couple hundred; lots of AKM's were muzzle-neutered in the CA market, even requiring removal of welded thread caps or worse. David in Chattanooga
