Harvested this nice size doe on a 300 acre family farm in West Virginia. My Yeti 65 was overflowing with deer meet into an extra styrofoam cooler. Should be eating real good this next year. Dropped with a Browning X-Bolt .308 on the spot. I previously missed on a nice 8 point the day earlier at 50-60yds which left me puzzled and discovered that my scope got bumped somehow during my travels to West Virginia and was way off. Went and had it boresighted after the big miss and then dialed it back in and this doe went down the next day so I knew I was back on track.

I went to bed early, so how bad did the Vols end up beating Vandy?

Hi folks-- haven't been on here in several months. No, nobody ticked me off or anything like that, just had some things going on and needed a little break from the forum scene, so I took a sabbatical for a bit from several forums to which I belong. In the meantime, picked up a few new "toys", and have been enjoying running them through their paces at the range. Good to be back-- now I've got pages and pages of topics to catch up on.

I would look for squirrels in the frames, I had a spot that the squirrels loved to trigger my camera. They are fast enough to get out of the frame before it takes a pic. Another thing is the sun, when leaves reflect it, it sometimes triggers the pics.

Don't feel bad, it took me all week of gun season to finally drop one, a button buck. First two days I seen a few but they just didn't give me a shot. Weather was probably one reason, another, for me, was that my food plot was overgrown with tall grass which hid/killed any food for them. Good thing they still use my draw to travel, or I would be SOL this year.

Dropped a lone doe yesterday evening. Very odd to see a lone doe at that spot, usually I come out of there with three at a time. Back at it in another spot now.

I'm my experience, they all end up dying after 2 or 3 yeArs so go with something in the 100 to $150 range. I feel it is hard to beat the Browning line of cams. I have 4 and 2 are in their third year of heavy use. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

For discussion, if BG fleeing but shooting simultaneously then returning fire would be a continuum of a single action of self defense as the initial attack was never broken off. At least that is the story my attorney is giving.

The misconception, over and over, is that the general public perceives the HCP course as training in SHOOTING and it is probably because the State says one spends 4 hours on the range. The class is primarily about the laws governing the carry and use of a firearm for SD. Of equal importance is safety. It always amazes me the number of students that show up that don't know how to hold, load, or safely operate a firearm. Furthermore the misconceptions on the use of a firearm by "experienced" owners is equally as scary whether simply shooting or on what they feel regarding legal aspects. Just picked this up today. Always wanted a PRS and I got a great deal on this one. It's not American made, but it wasn't $4k either![emoji6] Wish I had the Epiphone Sheraton II and the '86 Les Paul I had when I thought I was a musician. Same here on the SST, although mine isn't an AK. I let a doe and a small spike walk this morning. It was just too windy for my liking. On the way back to the truck I jumped up what was probably a 6 point around 50 yards away but by the time I turned he was going away from me in some thick stuff. And to expound on how it can negatively affect accuracy. With a low magnification you center the scope up on the target and pull the trigger. No rush or hurry. With a high magnification scope you line up on the target then you are forced to jerk the trigger. The reason is because with high magnification scope you can see your heartbeat in the scope. Even your pulse in your hand can be seen through a high magnification scope. Another reason high magnification scope can affect accuracy is when you can see the bullets holes as you shoot. Most people will get frustrated if they are that amazing three shot group go to help with a fourth shot. And along with that frustration comes a loss of concentration that can negatively affect group size. When shooting groups I generally turn the magnification down until I cannot see the bullet holes at the distance I am shooting. In a perfect world one should fire between heartbeats and between the natural pause in your breathing. And one more small tidbit, when shooting for groups never fire with your gun while resting on a hard surface of off a bipod. They can cause erratic harmonics that can negatively affect accuracy. I use bags or a cheap backpack with a pillow inside. Even resting your gun on your fist it better than resting it in a hard surface.

More rounds. The "more power" argument with pistol rounds is a wash for me once a threshold is reached, and 9mm rounds have advanced to where they're above that threshold based on testing. Agree with @shotgunshooter when he comments on more power calling for a rifle. I've always looked at a pistol as ending an immediate threat in front of me, or allowing me to escape and get to a rifle. Ease of follow-on shots if needed is a nice secondary bonus, along with cost per round for training, and marksmanship skill with a 9mm vs. a .45 ACP for me far superior. Just see too many benefits not to carry a 9mm in today's day and age, in my mind.

While I'm a .45 guy, I think 9mm holds its own pretty good.

You can shoot to 300 yards using a red dot. If you are wanting to see the holes at that distance I would suggest a spotting scope. Believe it or not but too much magnification can negatively affect group size.

This thread is proof that Elmer Fudd's still exist in the gun community. We need to be united in this fight to push for additional freedoms. The state should never have the right to "allow" us to exercise a constitutional right. Taking the TN drivers license test doesn't make someone a good driver any more than taking a carry permit class makes us responsible gun owners.

The Savage Swede earned it's keep last night. I shot her right at dark (4:50) on my favorite patch of TVA land. Unfortunately, some of the Well-To-Dos who live in a nearby subdivision object to scruffy hunters & by the time I'd got her dragged into a clearing, the cops showed up. After a tense, although very pleasant, 45 minute conversation with the local Deputy & TWRA Officer it was determined that whilst close to the houses, I had done nothing wrong. They even dragged her out to my truck for me!

Opinions are great and all, but let's see some stats on constitutional carry states. No reason to speculate, since there are a number of them. I'll agree that training is always good. But, stupid kills, and it ain't always with a gun. Letting a kid get ahold of a loaded gun, and have it turn into a homicide is a special kind of stupid.

You now have immunity from all future panic buys. No one panic buys .30-06 ammo. Why? Men with .30-06s don't panic.

Bill Summary ON APRIL 18, 2016, THE HOUSE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #2 AND PASSED HOUSE BILL 1424, AS AMENDED. AMENDMENT #2 rewrites this bill to make the fee for a lifetime carry permit equal to the regular carry permit fee plus a lifetime carry fee of $200. Under present law, the regular permit fee is $115, so the lifetime permit fee would be $315. This amendment provides that a holder of a regular permit who is applying for renewal may obtain instead a lifetime permit upon payment of $200. This amendment also changes this bill's effective date from July 1, 2016, to January 1, 2017.   Effective January 1st 2017 according to the bill summary. Figures, since mine is up in November.

Folks... Lately I have noticed something that I feel needs to be addressed. I hope that you will all read this with an open mind and set aside any predispositions you have for at least the amount of time that it takes you to get to the bottom of the page. We have a training facility here in middle Tennessee that offers a slew of different firearms related classes. Some of those classes are geared toward practical application in the civilian self-defense world, and other classes are geared toward professional "tactical" occupations that many of us will never work in ourselves. I tend to think of training facilities like this as being service providers, and as with any service provider, you are going to have good reviews and bad reviews because everyone has their own different opinion on what constitutes good service. Or in this case, good training. Some of us are aware that one of the parties involved in the formation of this training facility has some baggage assigned to their reputation. Merely searching the Internet for this person's name brings up numerous hits where an incident in Iraq is discussed ad nauseam. It's easy to find both supporters for and detractors against this person, and the facts of the incident have become so muddied by the hype and hyperbole surrounding it that it's almost impossible to tell truth from fiction, fact from slander. The opinion you form of that one person based off of what you read on the Internet is your business. However I do feel that it is a bit unfair to crucify an entire organization of people (trainers) because of what you think of one guy, regardless of whether that one guy is the CEO, President or Founder. I might happen to think that Bob Lutz is a complete jackass but I am not going to say that General Motors sucks as a whole because he happens to a prominent figure within that company. Doing so would be unfair to the other employees and to the products that they produce. Likewise I would ask that everyone please at least consider taking the same moral high ground in the case of this particular training facility. Disliking one person is your prerogative. Criticizing an entire organization because of that one person shouldn't be. It dilutes the validity of getting good training somewhere, anywhere and ultimately will push people away from this forum. I don't think we want that to happen. That's my complete, unsolicited opinion on the issue. No one asked me to post this, no one even hinted that I should. Take it with a grain of salt if that helps.
