  1. I've hunted deer in Tennessee during rifle season in everything from a t shirt to insulated coveralls. Expect weather to be anywhere from 75 degrees down to 10 degrees or so. We may have monsoons, we may have droughts, it's a complete crap shoot.

  3. Good afternoon everyone, I'm a new California transplant here. I am not bringing my politics here to this state cause that is the reason I left California. I wanted to introduce myself and say I love the people I have met and the realism of this state. I hope to meet new people here

  5. Based on the wording in the article, it implies that the US Military owns the Lake City plant and Winchester just operates it for them. If that is in fact true, then the gov can do what they're saying. Never thought about it before but it would make sense that the military would want to own an ammo plant to have a secure/stable supply.

  6. The best approach for me is a layering system, so I can adjust as needed. The heat through most of bow season is the worst IMO. It can get pretty soggy sometimes, but don’t let the rain deter you. One of my most memorable TN hunts was a November bow hunt in a downpour rain. I took my bow instead of muzzleloader because of the rain. It was just before dark and the water was running like a waterfall off my hat. The deer were everywhere! A doe brought a nice buck right under my stand. I guess they thought the woods were free of any hunters on that wet day... nope Also Thermacell is your friend until first frost. Be careful of ticks

  7. While searching the web on my phone last night for ammo deals (looking for 6.5 Grendel) I came across a site (www.ammozdepot.com) that had some really good prices on Wolf. In retrospect, too good. Still, I put an order in my cart, then saw that there was a minimum "$150" order. So, I put some 300BO in the cart to get the order up to the minimum. going to the checkout, they offer PayPal as a payment choice (Cool I think), but they also offer Zelle. Hmm, I think. My Spidy Senses start tingling and I decide to look for reviews on this site. I find some "Scam Check" sites that say ok things and some that say bad things. I then find a posting to Pay Pal from someone who felt they were scammed by the site. They placed a order and then were asked to use F&F to make the payment. They did and never heard back from the web site. I then got onto some other gun forums and found more references to the site as being a scam. I backed away and called it good. Today I went back and looked at the site again. Initially, it looks to be a well put together site. They say all the right things to get you to believe it is legit. But as you look deeper, it looks to be almost an AI generated site or a template web site that has been modified just enough to "look" legit. When you get deeper into the site, much of the "Text" associated with the pages is Latin gibberish. Anyway, avoid Ammozdeals.com. If you run across any other scam sites, let's post them so we keep our folks safe.

  14. And this brings me to one of my favorite points, because I assume that you and I are alike and keep them well maintained. My experience in matters such as this, and other bad reports like the 938 had of being made "cheap," come down to this: a firearm is just as much, if not more, of a complex piece of machinery as a car. If you take care of your car, it takes care of you, firearms are no different, and most major malfunctions are results of poor routine maintenance.

  15. The question is simply who owns the rights the name Lake City. No telling what the contract actually says, but they will always try to bully business to get what they want. And Winchester makes other headstamped ammo. Just keep it coming on those lines, although I am sure they are already maxed out. Or buy additional press plates. There is money to be made. Someone will do it.

  16. This admin like to play dictator with corporations. I witnessed that first hand when they labeled airlines as government contractors simply so they could required the covid vax. We need some corporations to start pushing back on the .gov

  17. Fine, just fulfill the govt. contract to the exact number, change the label and rebrand it for the commercial market. I am also not sure how the Govt can just change the contract terms for the supplier. Winchester is not a govt entity. I have done plenty of business with govt. They don't get to tell us what we can and can't sell to other people. If the Govt is supplying the whole goods, then maybe, but that doesn't make sense either.

  18. Its backdoor gun control. I just shot off e-mails to my Congress Critters informing them of the situation. I'll bet they have no idea this is happening behind their backs. I suggest you do too. Raise a fuss and make it known!

  19. According to the article Lake City provides 30% of the 5.56 ammo on the market. The plant is run by Winchester and that would be a huge loss of revenue for them. I'm thinking Winchester could easily pressure Joe by withholding military production until he reverses this order.

  24. As if ammo isn't already too expensive. Some elbow that wants to shoot up a school isn't going to care if the ammo is a bit more expensive, they'll never pay that credit card bill anyway. But it will certainly have an effect on those who like to put a bunch of rounds downrange. FJB indeed!

  27. It is a sickness I tell ya. I have always had a thing for classic bolt action deer rifles, especially older wood stocked ones. I have more deer rifles than I can hunt with but that does not seem to matter when I comes across another. I am especially fond of older Sako rifles. I found a single owner Sako Finnbear in .338 Win Mag from 1967, my birth year, and just had to have it. It has definitely been used but is in good shape for being 55 years old. It also has a great looking wood stock. The fact that I did not have a .338 win mag currently just made the decision all the much easier. The gentleman, who lived in Coloardo at the time, ordered this from Herters in Minnesota. He paid a whopping $149 including tax and shipping. He actually kept the original hang tags and all the paperwork from when he bought the rifle. I did not realize that when I bought it so it was a cool surprise. The scope that is on it is a Herter's scope. It is not marked but I am guessing it is a fixed 6x. Anybody have any .338 win mag for sale?

  30. I carry the LCP Maxx a lot and love it. As @bduncan1231said is is a little bit thicker in the grip, but that helps with felt recoil. So far it's been flawless with 95Gr FMJ and 80Gr CuHPs. And it's very accurate. For such a little pistol, the sights are fantastic. I have zero issues picking up the from sight. And I love that he has the NS installed on the front! Great featuire!!! The there are a couple of things that have bugged me about the LCP Maxx. One is there is a bit of trigger bite, from the trigger safety. I tends to pinch the pad of my shooting finger, during recoil. Changing to the above mentioned trigger, might solve that issue. The other thing is I use a thin leather IWB holster made by Targa and I have had the mag release accidently activated, while the pistol was in the holster. I think the mag release sticks out just a bit too far. The mag doesn't pop out all the way, but it does release enough that the pistol wouldn't fire a second round. So I do occasionally check the mag to make sure that it is seated properly. I am thinking of using a grip sleeve to see if that might protect the mag release button. If that doesn't seem to stop the issue, I may try a different holster. It's only happened a couple of times, since I started carrying it back in August of 21. For holsters, besides the above mentioned Targa, I use a DeSantis Nemisis pocket holster and a kydex OWB holster, that I got off Amazon.

  36. This will get you on paper. Find a mirror that’s about 10 to 15 feet 20 feet is better away from you. Gun empty finger off the trigger look through the site into the mirror and adjust your site to fall on the end of the muzzle. Do this two or three times adjust as needed. This will get you on paper at about 50 yards.
