Christmas present to yourself?

My wife encourages it because I don't normally buy many things for myself. So I bought a S&W M&P 15-22 from Bud's this weekend for myself for Christmas. It was the one with the fixed sights and suppressor on sale for $369 so I couldn't pass it up. The best I had seen to this point was $449 on sale.

We each have our "play money" that we get from each check. I invest mine in lead, polymer and steel :)

A good excuse is... "It was on sale"; "obama may ban it soon, and it's value will quadruple"; "It was a good investment"; "That? I've had that for a while"; "Honey, are those ANOTHER pair of new shoes?" Edited by Wingshooter

LOL! Well, the wifey knows I'm shopping for reloading gear and a rifle, neither of which I currently have, so.... I could get a .22 rifle 'for the boys', but she'd know a .308 w/ scope isn't a plinker for the kids!

Seriously laughed out loud at this. But really, the kids gotta grow up sometime. ;)

We just gave up Christmas altogether. We had a talk a couple years ago. The whole paradigm of gift exchange is stupid. If there were children here, then yeah, that makes for some fun but adults? No. Why buy crap that MIGHT be what they want? Basically, me and wife are like this; If you want something & we can afford it, go buy it. Don't aggrevate me at the end of the year and expect me to know that's what you want. I make a casual offer to go to town and save her he drive, if there's something she wants, I'm happy to fetch it. As it is, FedEx does a good job.

Birthdays are much the same. None of you may care to acknowledge or accept the fact, but you're really only waiting to see who dies first. Most friends and family spend roughly the same amount on one another. So you spend a hundred bucks on your brother for his birthday, he spends a hundred on yours, you're essentially trading the same hundred back and forth till one of you dies leaving the other the beneficiary. Madness.

Occasionally we will buy one another things as a surprise gift but the feeling of obligation on set dates? No. Edited by Caster

I'm married and have kids , one 17 yr old and an 8 yr old. I have to sell a gun to get one . And it hurts to do it so I have to make it count when I do it.

 Here's my present to myself
