While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year-old farmer whose hand was caught in the gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually, the topic got around to Obama and the Presidency. The old rancher said, 'Well, ya know, he's a 'post turtle''. Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a 'post turtle' was. The old rancher said "When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top -- that's a post turtle." The old rancher saw the puzzled look on the doctor's face, so he continued to explain. "You know he didn't get up there by himself; he doesn't belong up there; he doesn't know what to do while he's up there; and you just wonder what kind of dumb ass put him there to begin with. All ya really know is ya gotta help take him down ..." =4 points

I don't like to brag about my kids publicly but I think in this case, he deserves it. My son got the F class bug and wanted to try some of these matches. Anyone that knows him, knows he's a pretty darn good shot on various platforms. However, we never did 1,000 until this Feb. He tried his 1st match and had a rough start getting on paper. Once he did, he did pretty decent for the 1st time out, especially at 14 years old. He missed the 1st relay so we never shot a full match. Yesterday he shot in the ORSA match in Oak Ridge. Only 2nd time at 1,000 and 1st full match. On his 1st relay he shot a 182 out of 200. Few 8's but mostly 9's and 10's. I made him a bet that when/if he ever did better than 500 total for a match, I would buy him lunch wherever he wants. After yesterday, I have to pay up. He shot a total score of 522 out of 600. He got in the bullseye four times with a 4X's. He made all his own elevation and windage corrections. He got a tip from a paired shooter and started watching the other shooters where they were correcting. So I am extremely proud of him and think he did a fantastic job at any age for a starter, let alone 14. That match is extremely well run and moves at a good pace. Lastly, the people there were great. Thanks Harold and Jeffery for the tips and scoring. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLA3YZmoG4I4 points

The point of the thread is simple... you got 45's, and you got girlie guns :)2 points

There is your problem!!! The shell holder MUST touch the sizing die. If not you are not completely sizing the case. If you are using the same method with your other calibers that is why you are probably having issues there as well. When setting up the sizing dies I put the handle all the way down. Then I screw the sizing die in until the handle moves up about a 1/2". 5.56 and 223 are identical when it comes to size. The only difference is in the chamber and the pressures the loaded rounds are. Here is the rule for using a chronograph. First, NEVER shoot groups while using a chronograph. Second. If using a scope aim at the sky screen because the bore is a few inches low and you will never hit the sky screens. If you are using irons put a piece of tape between the uprights right below the sky screens and put a dot to aim at on the tape.2 points

Even though I ride a sport bike it amazes me how some folks like tale gate. Scary because I can stop a lot faster than cagers. What I have discovered is how fast they back off when a wad of chew splatters on their windshield.1 point

I found some .22 ammo in Remington 525 boxes in a store for 80 early this week and in zip lock bags as well. I thought it was strange opening ammo up and repacking in zip lock bags for resell. Made me wonder in the back of my head if they are correctly applying the tax stamps on sales. I kindly passed, said the next guy can have it. Not going to contribution to the high prices like that.1 point

I flew with a handgun three years ago. No problem going out of Knox, leaving Phoenix was a whole different deal. I did exactly the same thing both ways. Had a Phoenix cop detain me while it was all sorted out. Idiot TSA guy about had a stroke when he encountered the declared handgun. The cop was very nice and told me I had done nothing wrong. I was pretty much giving the TSA jerk a piece of my mind the entire time. Mr.TSA did not like me so much.1 point

J hooks long enough to hook part of the bike frame is the way to go. Got one in my garage hung like that. Works well 'cept for banging my head off of it every time I need to pull something out from where it hangs.1 point

I had a failure to understand what I read when I saw "Been Stoeger" LOL! It amazes me how many people routinely fly with guns and TSA still screws up as much as (if not more) the people who don't know the rules for flying with a gun.1 point

I guess I'm lucky. Well, I KNOW I am. My wife is at least as cautious as I am about strangers. Her driving is a whole different matter.1 point

If I really wanted to soak innocent people I would open up on them with a water hose or a water ballon. Just like; If an international or domestic terrorist really wanted to injure a lot of innocent people he would drive a Suburban down a busy sidewalk or set off an IED.1 point

The only loaded firearms in my house are a single shot 12ga way up high, and if I am carrying my 1911, when my wife feels like a person at the door could be trouble she loads her .38 with a speed loader on hand. Usually the rule in our family is if you keep it loaded, it's with you personally.1 point

This is just horrible. When my brother brings his kids over(once a year :shake: ) I always put my guns away. They have spent a lot of time around firearms but I'm still not taking any chances. It's just not worth it.1 point

F that. Those folks up North pay outrageous property taxes because they didn't complain. Folks may not get the government they deserve, but the sure as hell get the one they tolerate. I say keep complaining and fight every bit of increase tooth and nail. Don't let the bastards steal a penny more without a fight.1 point

If you hate crowds this is a great show. Went today around 1:30 pm and it was easy strolling the aisles. If you're looking for any .223 dlm27015 has probably the best price in the country (think pre-panic), not to mention he also has plenty of reloading supplies at excellent prices. Thanks again David!1 point

Yep. Watched since day one. Good and entertaining....sometimes. Would rather see more of the cars than the people, but the format is the same for most of these shows; 12 minutes or so of commercials, 4-6 minutes of recap after the commercials, then about 10-12 minutes of actual show on the cars.1 point

I have said it before and repeat it often. When meeting someone I don't know to buy or sell ANYTHING I do these things. I always speak to them on the phone and on the day of the meet I write their number on my hand with a sharpie. I also give them my vehicle information and get theirs to put on my hand. If they won't tell me what they are driving I pass on the deal. And then when I get to the meet location I drive past once to look them over as well as get a plate number and, you guessed it, that goes on my hand. The meet location is never at their house or my house. It is somewhere in public unless it is something too big to hall. And above all else if something doesn't seem or feel right walk away. There are always clues and instinct that tell you something is about to go south.1 point

Oh I agree. And that's why I was reluctant to go in past the gates. But I drove up to her building, but parked in an open spot. I looked around before moving out into the open. I was armed and had an AR pistol in the truck. If they were gonna get me it was gonna be one hell of a shoot out.1 point

Unfortunately, my intended sarcasm didn't translate well for you. :slap: One of the pitfalls of written word vs. spoken word. If we had been face-to-face you would have understood that I was joking. :biglol:1 point

Never understood why someone would load a "hot" load.I always start in the middle and go from there till I get good groups.Dont care much about velocity.the crows I shoot with my .223 couldn't tell you how fast or slow the bullets are going when it hits them.lol.1 point

Plus one for the new format. Nothing worse than reality tv bull crap. Personally I think even this system is silly. They should shoot a competition every episode. Whoever comes in last, goes home. Easy. If you suck that day, you go home. No second chances. Does IDPA give second chances? IPSC?1 point

kj4xu, Start here, with Jeff Cooper's famous 4 Rules of Gun Safety (typing from memory, so consider them paraphrased): All guns are always loaded. what this means is that until you, yourself, nobody else, has verified a weapon is clear, treat it as if it were loaded Never point your weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot (sometimes phrased as "keep your weapon pointed in a safe direction at all times"). This is self-explanatory, and protects against failures to observe rule 1. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to hit your target. This protects against failures to observe the first 2 rules, in that if you don't touch the trigger, no bullet from the weapon you were sure was clear will strike whatever you were pointing at for whatever reason. Know your target and what is beyond it. Every round you fire, intentionally or otherwise, is your responsibility. Know and understand where they will land before trigger and finger come in contact. Observe those four rules at all times, and the likelihood of you ever harming yourself or others accidentally approaches 0%. Once you have that down, you get to enjoy shooting however you like, with whatever weapons you enjoy, and if the shooters you associate with do the same, you'll have many good days out at the range. Good luck in your progress!1 point

I'm done with unsafe drivers tailgating me. I used to brake check them, but now that I have kids I slow down to about 10mph below the posted speed limit. Near my home there are several winding roads where it is impossible to pass or pull over. If folks want to drive in an unsafe manner then I'm going to adjust my speed to reduce risk. The last guy I did this to about had an aneurism as I watched in the rear view. To me I just don't understand it. Riding my ass will not cause me to break the law and go faster. It will only piss me off and look for ways to undermine your ability to get to where you're going.1 point
