For those of you who missed it, Sen. Ted Cruz in his filibuster against funding Obamacare, just read "Green Eggs and Ham" to the gathered august body of blowhards. His punchline was perfect: "I do not like Obamacare with a fox in a box, or with a mouse in the house." That's putting it on their level. :rofl:3 points

FOX411: Why is “Duck Dynasty†so popular? Si: Well, I think it's going back to the pioneer days. We're reminding Americans what this country was founded on, Bible-toting, God-fearing men and women. http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2013/09/23/duck-dynasty-star-uncle-si-talks-iced-tea-marriage-troubles-and-god/2 points

Death match: Eagle takes down deer A seemingly unlikely battle between a golden eagle and a baby deer was photographed by a camera trap set up to capture poachers seeking Russia’s endangered tigers. The three images captured by the camera cover a 2-second period, and show an adult golden eagle clinging to the deer's back. Its carcass was found two weeks later, just a few yards from the camera, initially puzzling researchers. http://www.foxnews.com/science/2013/09/24/death-match-eagle-takes-down-deer/?intcmp=features Keep ya eye on your dogs and cats. :cool:2 points

I laughed too after it was over because I knew how crazy I must have looked. I ran through plenty of spider webs too which added to the whole experience with arms flailing. It's always annoyed me that spiders build their webs at face level in the woods. After the chigger incident, I'm surprised I didn't get stung by all of them. I will proceed with caution on Saturday, lol. If you see a guy duel wielding Thermacells and a tank of Deet, that's me :)2 points

Mothballing isn't necessarily the end of the road. It stops the clock and minimizes the cost of airframe support. Aircraft go into mothballs, and can come back out again. The same with ships. There will be a time and a place.2 points

Even though I don't hunt to sustain myself, I find that if I take a doe or scrub buck early in the season, I will really hesitate on taking a deer that would be nice next year just to get some meat in the freezer. An early doe or two has saved some medium bucks lives several times. As I posted earlier, being smoked by a neighbor 2 yrs in a row gets to you though! I let a decent 9 pt walk last year, thinking man if he makes it he'll be a daddy next year, about 80 yards after he jumped the fence headed to bedding ground, boom goes the neighbor and pile drives the buck...sometimes it doesn't pay to be patient lol. He was excited he finally got "his" deer. It was his since he'd watched it come from my farm almost like clockwork every evening :-)2 points

Batman, I got to feeling bad about your chigger infestation so I went to your stand and sprayed a bunch of insecticide around and put a bunch of wolf urine down. I heard the chiggers are afraid of wolves. :taunt:2 points

I can't wait either! I'd like to put a couple of tasty does in the freezer early on in the season. That way I can relax and hunt a good buck during the rut knowing that I've already got backstraps for the table. I'm really late getting my cameras out though.2 points

I'm in a good mood today. Found an active Rub line on a nice 'very huntable' trail. Then found an 8 point 'big enough for my first Bow Season' Buck on my Trailcam by some Mock Scrapes that I did. Even if i don't see anything on Saturday, at least I won't feel like I am just hunting in the dark.2 points

I agree the real problem is half the population has figured out a good armed robber scheme on the other half that is "legal"... That those in government are just using the popular vote to enrich themselves, but they can only get away with it because they're paying off half the population with the hard work of the other half. I also agree that the likelihood is that any revolution would likely result in somebody much more tyrannical than our current form of government, there are a lot more Stalin's and Hitler's running around than there are Washington's, Adam's, and Jefferson's. I disagree that we couldn't possibly do better, we have seen the failings of our current system, and I think liberty minded individuals could improve upon the system if given the chance. The truth is if you can't manage your own life well enough that you need a handout from the government to live, then you should lose your ability to direct where the government goes via voting. By placing far greater restrictions on the ability of the government to grow... by remembering that representatives should be represent a small enough number of people to be directly answerable to those people... 50k to 100k instead of 750k each. But the truth is most of that is a pipe dream, a revolution is coming... the only question is how bloodless will it be... Our economy will crash when we're no longer the reserve currency of the world in such a way as to make the great depression look like a girl scout cookout. That will place pressures on the 'give me' groups in such a way as to start a revolution in some form or fashion... And the real question you have to ask yourself is who is better to come out on top when that starts to happen? Somebody who believes more government is the answer, or somebody who thinks government is the problem? At the end of the day we're all slaves who are just content to allow the chains of bondage to sit lightly on our shoulders hoping our 'master' doesn't select us for unreasonable punishments... None of us know what real freedom tastes like, and the hope of getting back to liberty is at best a pipe dream... but I don't have a problem if one of the slaves decided they've had enough and stands up... I sure as hell won't put a uniform back on and try to track them down and bring them back to the plantation.2 points

Some of this really amuses me. There is no law against tipping, but you're an absolute flaming turd if you don't. If you don't like the tipping system in the restaurant industry then don't dine out. You're just being a mooch off everyone else's tipping. The thing is, if servers were paid a regular wage and tips weren't expected it would drive out all ambition from the industry and you would end up with the same type of people who work at McDonald's, not to mention the food prices would just absorb the cost. The way the system is set up, it puts you in control of how well your service will be. Want crapy service, go to Waffle House. Don't walk into a nice joint where some server is working hard and then stiff them with a crap tip out of some BS principle. If you had principles you wouldn't be eating there in the first place. Just sounds like people hiding behind BS principles so that they can be cheap. Chances are if you can't comprehend the restaurant industry tipping standard you never worked in the job. And I don't know where the 20% rule came into play. I've never heard that. Many servers who make 20% or more is simply because they go the extra mile to give their customers a good experience. 15% is still standard for standard service. 10% for slightly below standard (just running food pretty much) and below that is crap service. If all your server is doing is running out food and drinks then they don't deserve 20%. I eat out all the time, so I know this is generally not the case. Some folks may disagree, but they are doing so because they fundamentally disapprove of the system. Being so disingenuous tells me everything I need to know about that persons position; they can't be convinced otherwise because they know everything there is to know despite never waiting tables in their life.2 points

So white folks are buying land and intend to move there in numbers to take over the local government through elections...............how is that any different from the other "ethnic" communities around? Because they don't like another race of people or religion you all want Homeland Security called in. If it was Blacks or Muslims no one would bat an eye because that would be oh so wrong to judge them.2 points

Here goes nothing... Certain things, no matter what some may think, are not up for a vote. That's why the founders set up a republic and not a democracy. To restrain the government and protect the individual from his/her neighbors. What was intended is not what we have where our government on a near daily basis takes up and votes upon matters in which they have no business sticking their overly large proboscides. You often give the impression that as long as a democratic process is followed, the outcome is valid. When the subjects being submitted to that democratic process are life, liberty and property I would soundly reject that position as not just incorrect but wholly immoral.2 points

Could be voting is an illusion because even when the result *is* what that portion of the population wants the results to be, the outcome is much the same.2 points

I think that the intention is well meant, but I agree that it is ineffective. I spent 1963-1966 at SE Asia MACV “summer camp†and carried a Winchester 70 in 30-06 with a Unertyl scope. I can state from experience that if somebody wants you dead, a trained aggressor will get past all of your security and will drop you. After 9-11 several other vets of similar experience and I sat down and worked out at State Guard drill what we felt would be the most devastating scenarios for terrorists in this country. We distilled it down to two that would be the most effective. Scenario A was a public school, preferably an elementary school. (Killing children tends to be more shocking than killing adults). Scenario B was a crowded shopping mall, preferably just before Christmas. In both scenarios we found a way to enter by passing right through security (hidden in plain sight) . I won’t go into detail but in both cases I absolutely guarantee security would admit us. In both cases we were entering with a large load of explosives, enough to kill hundreds if not thousands of innocent people. If terrorists were to do it in this country I don’t really believe they would do it with troops, they would use explosives. I also strongly feel that there is always a way to get explosives in, even through tight security. The biggest problem with terrorism is that the tactics are highly effective, requiring small, minimal sized teams and can escape detection. We are spending billions of dollars, through multiple agencies (DHS, FBI, etc.) But we are preparing for an invasion (large groups of enemies) and not for insertion (small groups of enemies) and I am not all that certain you actually can stop a well planned insertion. I believe good local LEA action is more effective than Federal action. I just don’t believe that there is any kind of Big Government inclusive program that will be effective against terrorists. Having played the game, I am confident I could beat the “Security Experts†and if a big boom was wanted, a big boom would happen.2 points

This is so bizarre that I don't even know what to say. "A suspended seventh-grade student in Virginia Beach, Va., could be expelled for the rest of the school year for shooting an airsoft gun with a friend in his yard as they waited for the bus to come..." LINK: http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/09/23/suspended-student-may-be-expelled-for-rest-of-the-year-for-playing-with-toy-gunin-his-own-yard/ We used to take toy guns to school...hell, we used to take REAL guns to school and no one ever got shot...we played cowboys and indians and secret agent man and 007 and still managed to learn that 2 + 2 = 4 EVERY TIME. Folks, if you have children or grandchildren in the public schools, do whatever you have to do and get them the hell out of there. If there is any hope for the future of this country it rests with the children alive right now but with the kind of nonsense and outright ANTI-AMERICAN garbage they are being inundated with there is simply no chance that this country can recover from its demise.2 points

Zero tolerance always has been out of control. It’s for people that don’t want to do their job. They don’t want to have to defend their position that this person gets arrested/suspended and this person doesn’t. It’s what happens when you take away discretion. People that use it as an excuse are weak and should not be in those positions of authority or making those kinds of decisions.2 points

The two kids at the bus stop have every right not to be shot with plastic pellets. But what point does this become a school matter? The should've been a matter for law-enforcement if the students felt they were being harassed by the two boys in the yard.2 points

Been posted for some time. Personaly don't see the draw, my sister makes better biscuits and the rest of the food is on par with a Cracker Barrel IMO. It's kind of cool to bring out of state visitors too, but even then there are better places. Places that also aren't posted. It seems that the new owners have really let the place go from its past, what was once a nice downhome eatery is now basically a tourist trap.2 points

If he is put to death he will be viewed as a martyr by other muslims. His death will serve to inspire others to become martyrs. If they do it there should be no fan fair or even a press release stating he was executed. If they need to make a statement regarding his death it should read "Nidal Hisan, the Fort Hood shooter, died alone in his cell on Sunday. His death was apparently caused from him choking on the ham sandwich he requested for lunch after attending Christian church services. He will be cremated in the following weeks after an autopsy of his body." This should hopefully scare any other Muslim considering doing the same thing.2 points

On one hand I believe he deserves death for his crime. On the other hand, can you think of a more appropriate sentence than living the next 30-40 years confined in your own body? That bullet that severed his spine did much more than incapacitate the threat, it doomed him to a life of confinement while confined. He gets to be inside his own head until his last day, and will have on demand health care to ensure he doesn't croak off too early.2 points

I've been shooting primarily Federal 12g field & range shells for years, with some Winchester, Estate, and Remington whenever I find a deal on it. Recently, I grabbed a flat of Rio shotshells at Academy for under $5/box. Same price as the Estate stuff, but I saw the Rio shells are made in McEwen, TN. Yes, they are a company based in Spain, but I like the idea of supporting some fellow statesmen in their employment. This past weekend I finally had a chance to "apply" the ammo to some clays... the stuff shot just as well as anything else I've tried. But the best part was how the shells looked! I'm a sucker for anything blue. My Dad's favorite color is blue. As a kid I used to ask him "What's your second favorite color?" His answer: "Blue." I am my father's son! I know it sounds dumb, but the stuff just looks awesome, especially in the pile of boring red and yellow shells that my buddies were shooting... and they even said so! The price is up to $5.49/box now, but it's still the best deal on the shelf, short of the $20.97/100rd Federal and Winchester box at Wally in Antioch. (I was just in the Mbroro Old Fort Wally, and that box was $26.97!! That WalMart's ammo prices are terrible!) Anybody else like the Rio shells? You said: My point is who gave them the authority to impair my rights? Because they're my rights, and somebody else's or some collective's to give away. They belong solely to me as an individual. Just because 50%+1 of the population voted for them doesn't give the collective the authority to violate my rights, anymore than the thug who tries to take away my life, liberty or property at gunpoint. If anything that fact that it's a group trying to mask their behavior behind the cloak of 'government' makes their actions much more immoral than the thug who at least comes out and says what he's doing is a crime. I've never said that I want to rebel, or that I think it's time to rebel, or that I think it's a good or bad idea to rebel. Only that it's perfectly moral for somebody to do so if they're natural rights are being violated. And that I wouldn't be able to put my uniform back on and hunt those people down because I feel that would violate both my oath and would be an immoral action. I do like to tilt at windmills and hope that by making these posts and trying to educate others that we were once a free people, and could be again... that when our empire does fall, and I honestly believe it will someday... that in my own small way I help give the tree of liberty a fighting chance to once again grow... and to encourage those who are stronger willed than I... that it's perfectly moral to use reasonable force to defend your natural rights. BTW, I refuse to get into a religious debate on this forum, that is the third rail of internet forums and not even I am willing to touch it... I can truly say I sleep easy at night in the belief that my convictions match my religious beliefs completely.1 point

Here is the point I'm always making; it isn't the government that's the problem. The government is only a symptom of the problem. The real problem are your fellow Americans. They are the reason our gov sucks and so much of the population is on gubmint cheese. So what shall we do about that? I think the list of what we shouldn't do to solve the problem is much shorter than the list of things we should do. Revolution is never an option until such time we no longer have the right to elect our leaders. To overthrow the government is pointless, because half this country will still be turds. So what would a new government do? How would a new government fix that problem without violating the basic principles of liberty? I don't see how that equation would work. Revolution only guarantees one thing; exchanging one overbearing, tyrannical government for another. The problem is cultural. We still have the means to do things the right way, and that is how we should continue to do it, good bad or indifferent. I see anyone challenging our government with arms while we still have a voice at the ballot box as a much larger threat to liberty than Obama, which is why I wouldn't hesitate to throw on a uniform again if that became an issue. Just because we are losing the fight against socialist encroachment doesn't mean we don't still have the means to win the right way. I think revolution just sounds sexy to people that haven't seen women and kids full of bullet holes or in trashbag sized pieces on a regular basis. I won't stand for that kind of violence initiated by people who are either throwing a tantrum or they read only the good parts of our own Revolutionary history. I know what it looks like and I don't want it on our shores.1 point

I like him but his recent defeat is not a good sign. It was darn close, so maybe... but still not a good sign. Yes, Obamacare should be embraced fully and allowed to fail on its own merits now. Dirty tricks like refusing to fund it looks childish or worse. A % based funding of everythign would send a damn clear message..... once *everyone* and *all programs* get 10% of their needed budget by dividing the money in hand equally amongst those with a hand out, everyone will be mad as hell (both sides!) and maybe then the light would be seen.1 point

Has anyone been really looking at the shooting in the Navy Boat Yard and what the reaction or lack of that came from it. Yea the winch in California jumped up but sat right back down quick. Obama said what a shame it was and he felt sorry for the families of the ones killed and injured. That was about all that came of that. It seems it was almost played down and unimportant. Maybe it was not as important as the others for a few reasons. 1st it was a shotgun and not an AR. 2nd it was not children killed but men and women close to their retirement age which in turn will save the Feds paying out any pensions. 3rd the shooter was crazy and black, not crazy and white. I guess a crazy black mass murderer doesn't deserve the news that a young white man would. 4th There were so many mistakes made by the Feds on so many levels they would have paper work at many levels. This guy had more red flags waving than anyone since Ft Hood shooter and that one is also being kept low key. I guess the administration thinks out of sight out of mind but it don't work that way. They are trying to find other ways out of the fact that the Navy yard shooter was their fault because their own back ground check failed. They keep screaming they want back ground checks on every body yet that guy was not only flying through the state level background checks but flying through the Federal ones too. They dropped the ball and it cost a lot of people their lives and now they are trying to hide from it..........jmho1 point

Servers who make crappy tips are either working in a low standards restaurant (like Awful Waffle) or they are crappy servers. I was a waiter for a few years. I made awesome money despite the fact I can't stand most people. Bottom line is you're selling a service. If you aren't good at it then you won't get paid for it. Servers need to expect to do more than just run food and drinks to make their tips. They need to make it a pleasant dining experience by adding to the atmosphere. That doesn't mean you have to be up your table's ass, but you need to make them walk away having had a very pleasant experience. If you don't your tips will reflect. The industry tends to be dominated by young women, since they are fun to look at, but dudes can clean up too. We just have to work a little harder and pay attention to detail. I made great percentages; usually about 20%. Yeah, there are those people out there that just won't tip well or at all. You tend to get a feel for those people (they're always aholes and they convince themselves the reason they don't tip is principle, yet those principles are strong enough for them to eat at a non-tip min wage establishment) and the service and attention I gave those people reflected their historical tipping amount. The number of people (back then) that didnt tip were so low it didn't matter; wasn't even enough to get worked up over. I've come across many servers that do nothing but complain about bad tips. These are usually entitled little snots that believe they should get great tips without having to do anything beyond the minimum standard. Those people generally don't last long. If they do, they are the worst servers you'll encounter. They don't get it and they never will. Always the victim, blah blah blah. I almost always give a server the benefit of the doubt when I get subpar service. They may be weeded because they are picking up slack for more tables or another server. Maybe they're just having a bad day. Very seldom to I give a crappy tip. I can count on one hand the number of times I've given out no tip at all, and they deserved every penny of it.1 point
