I did as well, and most everyone here told me I wasted my vote. Well, had I voted for Romney, Obama would still be president. Wouldn't that have wasted my vote as well? At least this way both the S.O.B.s know there is a faction of people who don't want either of them. If more people would vote their convictions, we could do some good.

  I just don't see the legal argument behind this. Statute is pretty clear that TN permits are for TN residents and residents of other states regularly employed in TN for over 6 months.   New residents' other state permits are only good for 6 months after residency is established, so it seems pretty far fetched to claim that you as a long term resident could carry on a newly acquired out of state permit. Even stretching such a concept to it's max under any nuances of the TCA wording, certainly you'd only be allowed to do so for six months after obtaining the FL permit anyway.   If you haven't been able to work anything out by then, after the first of the year, I will pledge to dedicate a day to drive over from Knoxville and get you to the class and back, and if we can't get to the DMV/fingerprint center on same day, will stay over or come back to do it the next day if you need that also.   - OS

Well I had a good weekend.  The morning was slow with the stiff wind from the north, but after lunch we went back out and saw 21 deer!  I got a doe and my dad got a HUGE doe.  We don't have a scale but she was bigger than my Great Dane puppy who is 125lbs.  Good times!

Well after not tagging any deer in archery or ML seasons, finally scored this afternoon. Like to froze this morning, and gave up about 8:00. Went and done a little scouting around noon, found a fresh scrap and a couple rubs. Stopped and talked my neighbor/ hunting bud, he said he had been seeing deer around the hunting house. I told him I was going to hunt it this afternoon.  Fast forward to 3:00, drove over to within a 150 yds. and walked to the HH, sat down for a minute opened one window. Thought to myself better get the phone out, getting all situated, realized i had forgot the binos, dang. Well got the rangefinder out started looking around, ranging a few things to see what is what, ok I"m ready. Now I"ve been here all of ten minutes, and here comes this little doe, 285 yds. then another, both pretty small. So I"m thinking this is the yearlings that the neighbor has been watching the past month. Then here comes two more, and then two more, six all together. I watch 'em for like fifteen minutes or so, been waiting on some jerky meat for a month now. A couple of the young ones are playing around and start to wandering off, so I range one of the other does, 220 yds. Heck thats about as close as they are going to get so I reach for the 06, its a '03 Remington action thats was customize some time ago, nothing nice mind you it has seen alot of use before I got it apparently, but accurate. Ok, ok enough, standing broadside, set the sight right behind front shoulder. Bang! they all run off, wait some ten mins or so, walk to the truck and drive down to where they were. No blood, thinking I know I didn't miss, went to where I saw them enter the woods and bingo blood. Tracked in to the woods about another 50yds. there it is a nice little doe.   Pretty good from the time I sat down til the time of recovery approximatly 30 mins. I"ve only got one photo from the cell, and I"m not smart enough to get it off the phone to the computer, so will just have to take my word for it this time. lol   Good luck to the rest of ya'll.

Had a pretty eventful gun opener. Could hear 2 bucks fighting in the distance before light enough to see well. Few minutes later sticks breaking and grunting from that general direction. I made a few grunt calls and ole Sporty here made an appearance. Out of the stand early Saturday, stayed warm and slept in Sunday. Be back at it next week though. Good luck to all and be safe!

My cousin got this fat doe this morning. Life decided I couldn't hunt this weekend. Maybe I can sneak away from work early on Monday.

I got lazy earlier.  Its been a long weekend.  Here is my story though:   Woke up saturday morning at 3am and took my scent free shower.  Made my way to my dads house and met him there and loaded up.  Dad taught me how to hunt so it is always special getting to share the outdoors with my dad.  So we left at 3:40am to go to our hunting property that my father in law owns.  He has 425 acres with a mix of 70% mature hardwoods and 30% food plots and bedding areas.  FIL just got the property a little over a year ago and my dad had not hunted it but once before and he didnt feel comfortable being on it yet, especially walking to a stand he has never been in when its pitch black dark.  So I decided to hunt with my dad in the blind.  These blinds are 5x6 and 10ft off the ground so there is plenty of room for us both.     We walked to our deer stand overlooking 20 acres of standing soybeans with our high percentage shots around the 150yrd range or less.  The wind was stiff from the north but we were very comfortable in our blind.  We got in our blind at 5:30am and hunted until 11:30am and only saw 1 deer!!  That doe was cruising too, she was only in the field a few seconds and not enough time for us to open the window, put on hearing protection and get the gun up.     We really had high hopes.  This property has a crap ton of deer and they were no where to be seen.    We also had 3 other family members with us that were hunting in other spots of the property.  2 of the 3 had the same experience dad and I did.  If they saw something, it wasn't for long!  My FIL was able to get a doe though hunting over a wheat/clover field not too far from where my dad and I were hunting.     So at 11:30am we decide to go into "town" and get lunch.  So we grab lunch and I thought everyone was going to go back to hunt afterwords.  Well they all flaked out.  They were tired and ready to go home.  I told them, these deer havnt hardly moved all morning, when they start moving, you don't want to miss it!  Of course, the cold front kept coming in all Saturday so deer movement was looking more and more likely.     So dad and I are both a little crippled at the moment.  I had pretty invasive knee surgery 4 months ago and I am at 50%, dad is just old and needs new joints.  So we decide we will drive to the stand my FIL got his deer out of.  On the way to go to his stand, we come out on the field where another family member was hunted that morning and didn't see anything.  Well right there at the edge of the woods, 152 yards away from our vehicle were 2 doe standing there, frozen, looking at us!  So I took a picture of one and decided it was time to make a shot.  So I get out of the truck, put my blaze orange on, get my gun out of my case, load my gun, put my hearing protection on and rest the gun on the hood of my dads truck.  I squeezed one off and she only ran about 40 yards before she succumbed to the 130gr .270 round.     So I quickly sent texts and photos to all the "fair weather hunters" that left after lunch instead of coming back to hunt.  So we throw the deer back in the truck and continue to head on to the stand we were planning on hunting out of.     When we get to that box stand, my dads college was playing so we turned on the iphone radio and listened to his team for a few hours and not seeing much in the way of deer movement.  But by about the start of the 3rd, a 5pt buck walks out broadside at  55 yards.  We watched him feed for probably 15 minutes before a button buck walks out on the other side of the field at probably 40 yards.  So we enjoyed watching them both.  We are only taking does off the property this year to help out with our management goals.     Well a few minutes later and about 5 minutes until sunset (35 minutes of legal shooting time left) this BIG BERTHA of a doe walks out.  She was massive, she was probably around 150lbs.  I had to keep looking at her head to make sure there were not antlers, haha.  She was VERY alert.  So when she turns her head, dad gets his gun up and tags her.  She ran about 30-40 yards.  So when we loaded her up, every field we passed by or through had deer!  some with 1 or two, others with 6 or more!  We ended up seeing 21 deer that night!    So yeah, we really rubbed it in thick to the guys who chose not to hunt.  haha.     It was great spending the whole day hunting with my dad.  The last time we hunted in the same stand before was probably 15 years ago.     Like an idiot though, I left my hunting coat out at the farm.  So I went back out today to get it.  In the process, I had about 35 minutes of legal shooting light left so I sat down in a chair on the edge of one of the fields we saw a bunch of deer in.  Like clock work, nice doe walks about about 10 minutes after I sit down and I watch her come from about 80 yards to about 30 yards to me.  So much fun!  I didn't shoot her because I didn't want to deal with the after shot recovery and loading her up by myself especially with my bad knee.     So I can't wait for next weekend!  

Whitwell, TN.  25F overnight, max daytime temp was 38F.  Will be 27F again tonight.  10-15mph breeze throughout the day.   Got on the field at 11am; first time on this 60acrs private land that has not been hunt for many years.  Owner showed us the boundaries with his dog.  Got permission from owner to scout with one AR rifle for both father & son.  Owner left us at the edge of his outermost boundary, 3/4 miles from our car, but took us 45min to climb the hill and over all the fallen trees, and thorn bushes.  As owner start walking away from us, we both were thankful for the gift he gave us.   Max distance before striking a branch....15yds.  Max visibility of 30yds in most places.  In rare place, 50yds.   15min later, two does bounce toward my son and I.  Both would have run us over, but did a 90degree turn at the last second 10yds from us.  One follow 10 sec after the first.   This was an unexpected gift, just to see deer!   This is my son first still hunting, and first with a 16in AR/rifle.  He was not ready, and was not comfortable shooting at a running deer.  Large does, at least 150lbs.  He shot a deer on a stand with a crossbow two years ago.  This is his first true hunt, on the ground, and still hunting, on unfamiliar territory.  I gave him the rifle, and taught him the rules of the hunting, and serve as his safety observer.   Son wanted to move 2min after the does ran away from us.  Told him no, and to be patience.  Sure enough, a spike followed the does 5min later. Spike just wandering around, eating this and that, but no good angle, and all the branches are covering him.  Son gave me the thumb up, asking permission to shoot, I gave him the thumb up, seeing his gun wavered.   Spike started to walkaway from us.  I rustled the leaves.  Spike turn around looking directly at us.  Gun barrel now steady.  Son took a shot, but shot under spike and throwing dirt on him.  Spike jumped straight up and disappear.  No blood.  Can't find anything.   Son got angry at me for rustling the leaves.  I explained.  He understood.   This was an unexpected 2nd gift, son got a chance at pulling a trigger at deer!   Couldn't see anything for the next two hours.  Son got cold.  He now learned to listened to dad when I told him to bring the heavy jacket with him, but didn't.  I didn't want to argue, and figure he will learn from experience.  He did.   3rd gift, son learn the value of dad's experience.  Still gave me some lips though.  What do you expect from a teenager?   Later on, saw a does bouncing away, 50yds from us.  Next four hours, heard alot of squirrel which son later make fun of dad for thinking it was deer.   Saw a 10lbs owl 10ft from us on the way back...for 30sec.  That was one brave owl!   Got back to the car, which sat on an open hay field.  Son was burnt, went to sleep inside the car.  I decided to hunt till the end of legal hour, sitting on the cold ground a leaning against the car.  Wait an hour.  Heard noise; anticipate a deer from one quadrant. Wait another hour in 29F temperature, after spending 6 hrs in the open on a cold and blustery day.     Saw ears, then eyes, then head, no antler.  Doe then saw me.  Took off running until 10ft from the treeline then stop.  While doe was running I have the cross hair on her.  When she stopped, I put a 223 55g hp round on her neck.  I was looking at her butt.  Wait 45sec.  15min left of legal hour.  Look inside the car, figure son has woke up or would open the door and ask "what's up".  He was sound asleep!  Left him alone, and hope for the best. Why wake him if I miss.   Walk toward the spot where I last saw the deer before the concussion and the ringing noise now in my ear.   Don't know if I can find blood in this low light, don't know if I have to track her or not if my shot connect.  Walk toward the spot where I pull the trigger.  40yds away, saw deer skin.  Got excited.  Did 180 and get back to the car to wake up son, and load the doe before everything turn dark.  Told son I got a deer. He thought I was kidding.  Safety the rifle, and unchamber the round.  Put rifle in the car.  Empty my pocket for the ardous work ahead.   80yds away.   Drop dead on the spot where I last saw her.  Bullet enter the back of the neck and exit the front.  It was an instantaneous death.  (Thx Lord.)  Fourth gift.   Son and dad drag the ~150lbs doe to the car.  I touch the doe's head, and say a thankful prayer, and wish doe a safe journey back to our maker.   Last deer I shot was in 1989.  It has been a long time.  It was a good & memmorable ride back home for father and son, fifth gift.   Altogether, it has been an exciting day for my teenage son and I.  We were lucky to see deer.  Lucky for both father & son to spend a memorable day together in the field.   Since it is going to be 27F overnight.  I decided to field dress the deer tomorrow.  Neck shot, no organ was damage.  We both were tire, except for the adrenaline rush.   Son, and now his middle brother and younger sister, wants to do it again.   Gun:  The DPMS Sweet 16 bull barrel AR put 3/4" 3 rounds group at 100yd, and 1.5" 7 rounds group by dad with plain Fed AE 55g fmj.  Son can do 4in group at 100yd.  3-9x40mm Leupold Rifleman.

Right or wrong, here's my theory.   IMHO, there's not much in the long gun line that will devastate flesh and organs more than a 12 gage rifled slug. Spending the majority of my hunting life in Illinois where high power rifles are prohibited, that's what I used.   You all probably know the history behind and why the .357 magnum was created, what the Viet Cong and NVA gorged on prior to a Tet offensive and many an enemy combatant through out history. Man made drugs and adrenalin.   I witnessed and killed deer with both the 12 gage rifled slug and broad head arrow. In most cases, the deer ran about one hundred yards or so after a heart / lung shot with the slug. Most deer with a lethal broad head shot did not go as far. I'm thinking when the deer get amped up on estrogen and hormones during the "rut" mating season, it acts like certain drugs on humans and their brains don't immediately register their demise.   In addition, everyone knows the old bucks with monster racks are seldom seen and are harder to take than lesser younger bucks, agreed? That's because with age comes experience and wisdom. I associate that from my younger years where the little brain thought it was much smarter than the big brain, and apply it to the rut :ugh:

Cost of what you want is gona be high, I dont know of a product that will "stick" when blown up. Just how high is the crawl space? A 10 x 20 could be done in about a hour with normal insulation.

Dropped a doe this morning,was back home by 7:30. Started out a as a busted hunt, first time heading to the farm i hunt with my father in law this year, walked out the ridge towards the ladder stand and....it was gone. I walked around for 20 minutes looking, knew i was in the right spot due to some landmarks, including a piece of tin sticking out of the ground that isn't going to move. Finally stopped and stood next to a tree waiting for daylight, still couldn't spot the stand so was debating heading to the stand over the field when i spied a doe walking up over the edge of the ridge. She stopped about 50 yards away and i dropped her, walked over to her and found the stand. FIL moved it to the opposite side of the ridge and wrapped camo netting all over it. :-)

a vehicle with a rebuilt title has been totaled by an insurance company. if there is no indication of body damage repair it may have been under water somewhere. you definitely don't want a vehicle that has been flooded. the rebuilt title should have been the first thing a seller should make known. I would have done the same thing.

Mihec 9mm HP mold drops HP bullets 126.5-127.8gr Not water dropped Powder coated Loaded with 4gr of Winchester 231 Fired from a Glock 19 First HP penetrated 3 jugs of water and cracked the backside of the 3rd jug, but stayed in the 3rd jug. Each jug is right at 5.5" so about 16-17" of penetration. I have read that you deduct 10% to get an approximate penetration in gel. So that would be just shy of 15" in gel. Expansion was .550" at the narrowest and .589" at the widest. Retained weight 126.2gr 2nd HP round fired through 2 layers denim cracked the front of the 4th jug but stayed in the 3rd jug. Expansion was .463" at the narrowest and .486" at the widest. Retained weight 127.6gr 3rd HP round fired through 4 layers of denim. Only had 4 jugs left, penetrated through all 4 and into the backstop. Bullet not recovered but from the looks of the holes in the jugs it expanded very little if at all. I know its not scientific, but I had fun with it. I will do some more testing later to see if the oven curing of the PC is making the bullets to hard or not. May need to push the bullets a little faster to, but I haven't bought a chronograph yet.

  I can't either. Does the model 70 have matching serial numbers on the barrel and receiver? I'm certain that Bubba was involved somehow. Just don't know if it was a half assed barrel swap or what yet. I gave the gun back to my buddy, so I'm not able to look at it. It's a regular claw extractor (i think), with an ejector like an AR. Not familiar with push feed.   Do you know of a good smith? I don't know if it can survive Bubba again. :) I guess we're talking receiver replacement as a worst case. 

If it is possible to print a plastic gun, would it not be possible to mill a plastic gun?

Just got home. Dang diggity is was cold out there! I didn't see one deer, only a cat...and not a bobcat  :down: . I got out there at 5:15 and stayed till 12:30, that's about all I figured I better do since half the guy the guys on my crew have been sick and I don't want to get sick before Thanksgiving. Headed to Missouri to visit family and maybe hunt some with my Dad. 

You're talking about the blue/purple spray foam stuff they use on the DIY channel all the time? If so, I'm sure there's a pro around with the equipment. It's not exactly cheap, but it works great. Be sure you've got a vapor barrier under it.

Don't reckon you'll ever have to change batteries or wipe lenses on that one.

Nope, you bleed a lot out your nugget when you get shot through it. The first guy I saw shot in the head it came out like a garden hose that was left on for a good minute. The blood covered a 4 square foot area.

His lawyer was more than adequate. The point is one can have an opinion of another person's character independent of a courtroom. That does not mean such opinions have any place in that courtroom. I believe OJ killed those people regardless what the courts say. I believe Michael Jackson molested those kids. Hell, locally I see drug dealers regularly get off of murder 1 charges with a two-bit lawyer. It doesn't mean they didnt do the things they're charged with, it just means there isn't the evidence to convict or the DA is weak and willing to make deals. All the things Zimmerman has been accused with in his short life can't stand on their own perhaps, but when you look at the totality of the situation it indicates something. Plus I've heard him talk. I have had enough life experience to determine what is going on with that guy once you add all those pieces together. The problem is the folks defending him are only looking at those things individually. Well anything can be reasoned away individually.

Several of these accusations took place before the Martin episode. There was the younger female family member who accused him of years of sexual assault. The girlfriend that accused him of abuse. The officer who said Zimmerman assaulted him. That all played out while he was still a young man. Since then he's had a wife accuse him of abuse to where police became involved, he shot a teenager. And recently he was arrested and charged with a felony for choking his girlfriend and pointing a shotgun at her. Yes, once again, he is innocent until proven guilty, but I'm not a damned juror. There is a pattern here and it isn't that George Zimmerman is unlucky. If any other gun owner came on here lamenting about 4 separate women accusing him of rape and assault and cops accusing him of assault we would eat him for lunch. And he hasn't been convicted if anything yet, but OJ walked on a double murder. You think he's innocent, after all, a jury found him not guilty.

 As much fun as I always think it would be to go to some of these big box stores the day after Thanksgiving and watch the imbeciles trample each other, the almost certain anguish that I think I would feel just dealing with traffic coming and going always keeps me up on the hill a plenty safe distance from the idiocy.

if he walks the kids home regularly couldn't he just wait outside to greet his kid when the kid is released and then walk him home?  If he has done this in the past wouldn't the school be aware?   I am not defending the cop, don't really care.   Lots of cops are jerks,  lots of them are stand up guys(gals).   Why do people have to be full of drama?  How freaking hard is it to wait and then walk your kid home?   And....  Somebody in a previous post axed why schools need police there.  Maybe previous school shootings have been missed or something.  I like seeing cops at my grandkids school.

^^This. When I travel to MO, I only drive for 20 seconds through IL and I stop on KY side, unload, separate ammo from gun/mags, drive through IL and stop on the MO side and reload. Don't test them. My two cents

FWIW, I don't see much point in capturing rainwater for drinking (at least not that way) but there would be other uses for water besides drinking and that would allow you to conserve your potable supplies. I think things would have to get really desperate before that. But circumstances vary...     Looking at the above design, here's how I would modify it:   Instead of filling from the top where even the screen would allow silt to enter the barrel and the fresh water lands on top of old, stagnant water and flows straight out of the overflow, instead add a funnel and pipe to run the water into the assembly at the bottom. This means that fresh water enters at the bottom, pushing the stagnant water up and to the overflow. If you design it right, you can also integrate an easy-to-clean trap.   I also think that the pipe sizes are overkill if you will mostly be running to a hose (and even if not for most circumstances). The overflow is probably the only pipe that needs to be anything like that size.

I have a barrel I intend to use for catching rainwater but I've been puzzling over how to rig it up so it doesn't just spill water when it is full. There are some interesting ideas there but to maintain the integrity of the barrel, I think I'll tip it on the side.   I think you can avoid something of the nastiness by having it cycle the water somehow. But with the long dry periods here, there's probably only so much can be done for that.
