Okay strawman, down you go: If a person cannot be trusted to be in society with a gun, than that person can't be trusted in society without one either. If a convicted person has served his/her sentence, and is free from conditions such as parole, than he/she should have the same rights and freedoms anyone else in our country. What a child is allowed to own should be a decision entirely up to the parent or guardian of the child. In my travels shooting matches I've met many children, some as young as 8 or 9, who handled firearms not only responsibly, but expertly. The bottom line is this... with the exception of human beings, the mere ownership or possession of anything neither picks my pocket or breaks my leg, as it were. There isn't a single harmful thing that a person can do with a gun that isn't already against other existent laws.6 points

Yeah I'm fine with it. I'll go you one better: I'm against the criminalization of the mere possession of any inanimate object, provided that said object has been otherwise lawfully obtained. Next.5 points

One of the guys I always miss is Mouse Gunner, who passed away I think in 2011. I never met him, but I always enjoyed his posts, and his website was a great resource. I think someone took it over, but it doesn't look like it has seen much updating since his passing.4 points

Picked up a SightMark ultra shot to replace my junk Bushnell and since range time is rare right now I used one of those fake shells with a laser in it to try and get it close last night. I set it up and shot the dot on a piece of paper on a tree across the yard and turned on the sight and me and my son spent the next half a hour trying to figure out why we only seen one dot thru the sight. Because?? It was already on the dot and they were both red and the same size. Doh!3 points

What does that have to do with anything? dcloudy777 was responding to your assertion that: That's a complete failure of logic. Either the right shouldn't be limited (your 1st clause), or it should be limited to people who can prove they have adequate knowledge to USE a gun (2nd clause). It's not logical to say that the right protected by the 2nd A shouldn't be limited, then say exactly how you think it should be limited. You seem to not understand what a right is. It's not something you have to prove yourself worthy to have. You simply have it. Our society has determined that certain people do not yet have certain rights (children) and that we can prove ourselves unworthy of a right and have it taken from us (felons), but it starts with an "all doors open" approach. If you have to prove worthiness for something, then it's a privilege not a right. We have a right to vote. We can lose that right by proving ourselves unworthy of it (felons) or we can be too young to properly exercise that right (under 18). Otherwise we don't have to prove to anyone that we have read/heard the candidates' positions, understand the issues of the day, and will vote for a candidate based on a reasoned approach. The right simply exists. Firearms are the same way. You could perhaps argue that you think they should not be, and that you think the Constitution should be ammended, but you can't logically conclude that something shouldn't be limited then say how it should be limited. Definitions: Privilege - a special right, advantage, or immunity granted or available only to a particular person or group of people. Right - a moral or legal entitlement to have or obtain something or to act in a certain way.3 points

It's absolutely nuthin' fancy! I wanted to build the most basic, cheap, light AR I could using the extra BCG from the TGO group buy. A few years ago I bought some poly lowers right before that last big gun control push... ya know... in case. I was poor, hence the poly vs aluminum lowers. AAAnywho, I had this stuff in a drawer under a mountain of PMAGS and when PSA ran a really good deal on their PTAC cheapie uppers I jumped on one. It took about 2.5 weeks to ship, got it today. The upper was minus BCG, CH, and rear sight. I WAS gunna buy the cheapest things I could find, but it seemed like all the cheap stuff was out of stock at every site. :yuck: Some of you may remember my shameless solicitation in the gear classifieds looking for these parts. I want to thank Ted S., Luke E, and TripleDigitRide for being SSOOOO generous with their time and parts bins! There were more who offered help as well, and I'm grateful for all of you. I had a goal of building an AR for $400, and it wouldn't have been possible without you. These guys are why TGO is so awesome... the community and willingness to help/share is simply unbelievable. (Side note, I've had a magazine for a .40 Sigma/SD listed in the Pay-It-Forward thread for weeks! Somebody claim it!) Only goof I made in execution here was not noticing that this is a heavy barrel upper, not the lightweight profile. :ugh: With the poly lower, it's a bit forward-heavy. Oh well. I'm alright with it for the price! I haven't shot it yet. Mebbe this weekend! :pleased: The only thing I really wanna change is the grip. I'm hoping to find a good deal on a Hogue rubber grip at the fun show in Mboro this weekend. Not much to look at, but here it is!2 points

Well, for those who have the mental capacity to truly engage in such a discussion, the ability to actually physically hold a weapon up might be a qualifier as far as intent of the Founders regarding age is concerned. I believe they intended for the People to have all types of weapons that a standing army could employ against the general population, so that a tyrannical government could not out of hand force acceptance of mores that were unacceptable. That march to Lexington and Concord was to confiscate all manner of weapons and munitions. It did not work out well for the Crown (legal constituted government at the time), as the rebels took umbrage and fought back. The participants on the side of what became the United States were not a Nation, it was not a government, it was a collection of individuals who shot, hacked apart and burned their enemies to the point of being left alone to manage their own affairs. Bet there were some less than what we consider adults involved in that fracas, what do you think?2 points

Always choose a memorable password! A lady helps her husband install a new computer. Once it is completed, she tells him to select a password, selecting a word that he'll always remember. As the computer asks him to enter it, he looks at his wife and with a macho gesture and a wink in his eye, he selects a word: mypenis As he hits "enter", to validate the selection, his wife collapses with laughter and rolls on the floor in hysteria!! The computer had replied: TOO SHORT- ACCESS DENIED!2 points

The way I see it; if you committed a felony that is serious enough that your right to keep and bear arms is taken away forever then you ought to be locked up forever. If your crime isn't serious enough to warrant a life sentence then your 2A rights should be fully restored once your sentence has been served!2 points
-
At the very least, make the non-ownership of firearms a part of the sentence. Not every felony is worthy of being denied your right to adequate self defense (and loss of voting rights even less-so). But I agree with Worriedman in general2 points

"shall not be infringed." No exceptions were written into the 2nd amendment. And anyone with a decent grasp of proper English would know that the first clause ("A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state") is entirely dependent on the second clause ("the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed") Unfortunately, most average folks with barely 6th grade-level comprehension skills have it backwards, simply because the first clause physically precedes the second-- this give the misconception that the latter clause is dependent on the former. Remember. no exceptions are listed. As stated here by others, if you want to "condition" the rights protected in the 2nd amendment, then they are technically no longer rights. Keep in mind that the 2nd amendment only protects rights, it does not grant them. These rights are extant and exist without the need for a piece of paper.2 points

In the back woods of TN, and for much longer than the internet has existed, it was a rite of passage when a young man turned 12 or so for his family to present him with his own weapons. I was personally given a .22 single shot rifle at that age by my grand father. A couple of years later he handed down his Stephens pump 12 gauge to me. At 16 he presented me with my very own .38, out of his stable of firearms. He and my Father ascertained if I had the presence of mind and ability to control myself to be allowed "behind" them with a loaded weapon. They had duties and obligations to their families, they were not heedless in making those determinations. I knew men that they did NOT trust in that position. Never used any of them in anger, never committed a crime with any of them. I was taught that they were tools, and like many others, their caress use had dire consequences. We were sharecroppers by station, and every day of my young life there was a loaded 12 gauge double barrel standing by the kitchen door, for use on predators that might attempt to take the chickens from the back yard. We knew not to handle it except in case of need, it was like the "good" chopping ax or Grand Pa's crosscut or rip saws. More is the pity that in today's world it is the belief of many that to possess a firearm requires government to provide "training' instead of that being the province of family, when the prescription stated in the 2nd Amendment is that the federal government shall not infringe on the right to keep and bear them and that to own and carry firearms is a Right of every Tennessean. Our peers have decided that the mentally insufficient and felons (I personally believe that if one has proven a proclivity to violence and harm to their fellow Citizens, they should be put away from society, not just denied the right to have or carry arms, but then those who subscribe to such behavior do not obey laws, that however is for others to manage) shall not be able to possess firearms, have never seen a law that could achieve the preclusion of an act.2 points

So here's my take on this whole thing.... :) Members come and go no matter if we're talking about forums, or Facebook, or car clubs, or churches, or pretty much anything made up of people. Why? Because people are inclined to change no matter how much they try to sell you on the idea that they are creatures of habit. It's just the way of life. Folks say they drift away because the forum "changed" and I say that forums change because vocal, frequent contributors drift away and are replaced by new, different, vocal frequent contributors. When the guard changes by natural attrition, the forum changes. That's only a bad thing if the new guard is made up of complete a-holes. I think we've managed to keep most of the a-holes at bay. Lately we cleaned house a bit and that seems to have made things better. ;)2 points

I rented a hotel room for the "after events" of my senior prom and we each told our parents we were going to a chaperoned after party and sleeping there. Our parents weren't stupid, but ya gotta give them the benefit of plausible deniability. It would be kinda weird to have dad parking us. Don't know if I would be able to- BOOBS! Don't over think this. Hide in plain site... Aka the walmart parking lot and go inside for an hour or so. The windows are tinted and parking it on the outer edge of the lot wouldn't draw unneeded attention. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD1 point

My grand daughter at 5 years old could shoot my CZ .22 lights out, and she was smart enough to keep her booger hook off the trigger till she was ready to fire. If we are going to be asking ridiculous question, why not make that a 2 year old, or six month old? Why not ask if I trust the gleam in my eye to have a gun...1 point

I think your wife made a great choice. The Accords are fantastic cars. I just sold mine a month or so ago to a fellow at work only because he has been bugging the crap out of me to sell it to him so he can give it to his son. I put 250k miles on it without the first problem. I was so impressed with my Accord that I bought a new Honda Crosstour to replace my Accord. I was looking for something 4x4 with decent gas mileage (~26 mpg).1 point

I had a long talk with my vet back about 10 years ago when it was first discovered that China was poisoning dogs over here by putting dangerous chemicals in the dog foods and dog treats and I quit using anything made in China period. Since after spending about 3 hours at Petco reading labels I drew the conclusion that human treats like Jacks Links had to be safer for Kasey. I contacted Jacks links by phone and we had a long talk about where they got the materials they used to make their products. the answer was Canada and the United States. As far as her snack biscuits she only gets Alpo Squares made in America. Her dog food when she is fed dog food is Pedigree which is made right here in Franklin Tennessee. That was the dog food my Vet recommended. Most of the time I cook for her and myself. I buy Chicken breasts in 10 lb bags and will cook them in a large Crock pot and most nights she will get two chicken breasts and 2 nights a week she gets dog food. I figure I can eat the chicken also and I can eat the jacks link Snacks also so works out fine. Sam's has 1 pound bulk bags of the Jerky and ever so often they run $3.00 off it per bag. When they do that I stock up on it. I'm just waiting now to see how long it s before China starts poisoning Americans with their food products. They caught them back about 5 years ago with those little travel tubes of tooth paste when people were getting sick and after testing the product they found out that China was putting Ethanol Glycol which is the base product in auto anti freeze in the small tubes of the toothpaste. My guess was that was just a test by the Chinese to see if they could get it passed without getting caught and if they would have they would have began using it in more products made for human consumption in he United States. Since then I have become a serious label reader. China has tried to get the Food and Drug administrations permission to remove the MADE IN CHINA from the labeling of food items for humans here and to date they have denied the request. I am guessing that China may have already began doing it to see if they can slip some things through. That is why I seldom by many store brand products and never buy the off brand products that don't have labeling where it tells where they are made. A few of my friends have called me paranoid. I say better paranoid then hospitalized for being stupid...............jmho1 point

I bought my XTS last November from Crest Cadillac, and I must say that the experience was great! No-haggle pricing applied even though they had to do a dealer transfer from a dealership in Atlanta to get the car I wanted, and it was better than Andrews Cadillac. The salesman was no-pressure nor rush. They gave me what I wanted for my trade-in when Nashville Dodge's offer was downright insulting. The only problem was having to take the car back several times for warranty fixes, but that was handled well in the service shop. Cars are getting too "smart" for their own good nowadays.1 point

I saw my first TGO sticker today. I know many of you have them but I am in a "less populated" area. I was going north on I65 in Maury County around 6:45 tonight and saw a green Honda SUV with one. It makes me want to order a few for my vehicles. That way he'll know that I know that he knows that I know.... haha1 point

Been there, done that. As folks have said... sometimes it's as simple as changing of interests, other times it can be the heavy kick of life in the nads (me) or the ban-hammer. Regardless, I sincerely do wish all the best. I miss Eddie, too. I have been in a weird little funk lately where I have had many past friends/acquaintances and even a few ... I hate the word but don't know what else to use... enemies that have been brought to mind. Some I have reconnected with, others not. What I HAVE been doing for all of them is praying for them. I know the prayers of others have benefited me... prayers I'm sure I'll never even know about. Even if it's someone I may have never met personally, like many on this board, I pray that God provides extra peace, grace, and provision for whatever it is they are in. As a teen/college kid I kinda' thought most people eventually hit a groove in mid-life where everything gets stable and you just kinda' cruise. What a dope! The idea that everyone around you is always fighting some battle you aren't aware of weighs on me more and more. It is a discipline to try and respond with kindness to those who are foul. I suck at it, but Imma keep tryin'. Uh... gee.. guess that's more than what the OP was gettin' at... guess I'm gettin' sentimenal in my old age! Y'all take care. :-)1 point

I feel compelled to add my two cents here. Some here may recall from previous discussions on the topic know I'm not particularly a fan of open carry, but for some to suggest that allowing people to do so without a carry permit will end up with people shooting people's poodles and have negligent discharges all over the place is simply absurd. These people likely own firearms anyhow, likely carry them illegally anyhow, and somehow - magically I suppose - these untrained people somehow manage to contain their small dog hatred and novice trigger fingers. If people want to OC, then that's their prerogative, even if I think it's a bad decision for most situations. But I'm a bit shocked at how quickly gun owners will turn to the very same arguments that anti-Second Amendment folks do.1 point

Clearly, the authors of this survey did not take into account the "redneck factor." When they put a big red "Zombieland" blanket over the entire southeastern portion of the USA map, it tells me that they know absolutely nothing about southern culture or mindset, and that they've never been hunting on the opening day of dove season in Alabama (shoot anything that moves-- or not moving).1 point

Normally this morning I would have a few choice words for troutberger, and the others who like to bang on us "Damn Yankees" for going where we please in our free country. But today I thought I might remind everyone of how that damn Russian dictator is moving to expand Russian lands into previously western countries. I was just reading about all the anti-American propaganda he has put out there in this decade. Its something like 57% of Russians have a negative view of the US, compared to 7% in the 90's. Its what dictators to do move their people. So this morning I would like to apologize... to Troutberger, Sigmtnman, and any other Southerner I've rattled on in this forum (usually in defense of a fellow Northerner). We know it's in a Rebel's heart to rebel, so you guys just carry on. But to all my fellow Northerners: don't fire back at these guys. We gotta pull together in this forum. We're all Americans and thats my standpoint from here on in.1 point
