Pardon my rudeness, but what I do or do not carry or leave in my vehicle is none of anyone's business but me and my wife.7 points
-
I don't "keep" anything in my vehicle. That never seemed like a smart idea to me. I have a gun in my vehicle when I'm in it, but it leaves WITH me when I leave it.6 points
-
I still don't get that. My gun is outside my house, in my car, yards and yards away from me. How exactly does that prepare ME? It prepares the sumbitch breaking into my vehicle FOR me... but it ain't preparing me for anything out there. And if I'm incapable of remembering to take a gun with me when I leave the house (Oh, crap, I forgot it again. Oh, well, I have this one in here anyway, so I'm good), that's not much of a level of "preparedness."4 points
-
Perhaps for folks who live in an apartment complex. My driveway is monitored by a camera and very well lit. I suppose someone might break into it, but I certainly don't look like I have anything expensive in my 10 year old truck. If someone were to break in and find it, I guess I'm out $400 and I'll just go buy another one. Either way, I'm not going to let animals affect my level of preparedness. I read this morning that Moms Demand Action presented Harris Teeter with a petition to change their policy and prohibit law-abiding citizens from carrying in their stores. Just like their parent company, Kroger, they told the mommies to go jump in the lake. :rofl:3 points

Right now. Why won't THP round them up like they did w the last group that camped out down town?? The downtown folks didn't stop commerce or lay on a public roadway. Am So sick of non productive crap by douchebags in batman shirts that don't have a job to be at in the morning. Per Ron White, u can't fix stupid.....2 points

The Patriot Act...hope you're joking. We need a lot less of that beacon of anti-freedom. I'm surprised nobody in the government has tried to coral them into a "free speech zone." Legally, they are in the wrong for being out on the highway, but the place, and the timing was to get them on the news for free media to promote their cause. The way government tires to regulate dissent through things like the Patriot Act and local laws is shameful at times. As long as they stay peaceful, I think it's in the public interest to let them go on. Someday that might be us out there protesting gun control laws or something else we would get worked up over.2 points

Bring it to Mike Dresner in Oak Ridge. Hell, I'll even drive. I like visiting him. Got back from a full days trip yesterday actually. Had him engrave my MP5 and SBR AR lower while I was there. He uses his CNC machine and it goes a great job.2 points

Well this afternoon I decided I'd slip out and hunt a good plot that I have been leaving alone so far. I've been seeing a 10-11 point that's tall and wide on the camera over there so I decided to give it a shot since it was nice out. Just before dark a buck come in from my left and is broadside so I was seeing a tall rack. I kept waiting but he just refused to move any way but broadside and it was stating to get dark. Since he was the only tall racked deer that I'd seen on the camera I decjded it had to be him so I took the shot. I've not hunting with my AR since last year so my range habits were still with me so he got a double tap behind the shoulder. He went about 5 feet and dropped so I got on up and started walking towards him. The closer I got the more I realized it wasn't the buck I thought he was. He's no where near as wide as the other one so I'm kicking myself. This one would have made a nice buck next year guess I learned my lesson. On a positive note, it's meat in the freezer and gives me a decent deer to try a European mount out on.2 points

I finished this about a week ago. My instructor was YouTube and I had a great time making it. I am not looking for at a boys or good job, but I am looking for constructive criticism. If you are a knife maker that is close to Franklin, I would love to come buy and see your shop and possibly watch you work. If I need to pay to do this I will. The scales are wenge and the steel is a bar I had sitting in the garage. Thanks for looking.2 points

And Charlie Beckwith (the guy who founded Delta - the unit not the airline-) was hit with a 12.7mm round (the Russian .50 cal) in vietnam and survived....so what? Exactly WHERE did the NY bullet sponge get hit? And was the head wound a penetrating wound or a superficial glancing shot? Sorry, but I'm gonna side with Davison who worked counter terror in Northern Ireland vs the IRA (and the SAS and SBS shot a lot of Irishmen) vs an anecdotal story of some guy somewhere sometime who was shot somewhere with 9mm who did not die. Especially when that is EXACTLY what the SEAL contingent that "testified" at the FBI wound ballistics workshop in 87 said . They gave a "classified " briefing which pretty much said 9mm killed people dead when you hit them somewhere important. Peripheral hits don't do any good with any caliber. And I'm going to guess that the NY guy took a lot of hits in NON VITAL places. But holes in hearts , spines and brains are just that....HOLES in hearts spines and brains no matter what puts them there. And holes in hearts , spines and brains tends to make people lay down and die right now. Placement is far and away more important than bullet diameter given an adequate amount of penetration to hit vital structures. Next most important is punching multiple holes and disassembling those internal organs. Physics is physics and scientifically measurable data is just that...scientifically measurable.... and the difference in energy is MINUSCULE between .45 and 9 and the difference in size of hole is minuscule. As to anecdotal stories.....In the book "A Wayward Angel the Full Story of the Hells Angels" one of them was shot multiple times with .45, survived and actually got a tattoo that said ".45s aint sh!t ,17 holes , 4 creases"..... so ANYTHING can fail spectacularly if the shooter can't place the holes into important structures......2 points

I like the positive atmosphere in discussions. On other boards the posters get into pissing contests over miniscule details, devolving into personal attacks and kindergarden verbage. I do not post much, on any board, due to that reason. I appreciate TGO for the maturity, knowledge base and clean humor found here. I know there was a "purge" some time back with over the line posters and Iam appreciative of the effort of the mods.2 points

I like to have one rail slot visible between the backup sights and the rear of the red dot. The exact placing differs between an Aimpoint and an EOTech, but the base of the sight comes out to being slightly behind the mag well. It works well for me, but I'm not so fixated that I'll say somebody else is wrong for doing it another way if they can shoot well enough.1 point

I can just here some of the guys around here. "You mean we have to tote a LOG around when we're deer huntin'? Won't that get heavy??!!?"1 point

I do the same thing. I am not going to carry a paper copy when they can obviously see and confirm my license. If they want to be a jerk they can of course, but I don't expect any issues.1 point

Page 23 of the hunting guide addresses this... http://www.tn.gov/twra/pdfs/huntguide.pdf It says the mobile app contains and should self-populate the harvest log, so that's all the officer should need to see. Though if you happened to be in the woods with no cell service, I'm not sure where it would go from there. If you use regular internet check-in or a physical check station, you must keep your receipt OR fill out a harvest log. I looked into it because I don't recall ever hearing/reading about a harvest log before.1 point

Speaking only for myself, the rifle "prepares" me to meet any number of unlikely, but still possible, scenarios encountered while traveling. It's far from my only rifle, so home defense is unaffected. It is in a discreet case that looks like a large, brightly colored raquet case and has a lock set one number off the combo for fairly fast deployment ( I always have my pistol). I keep the case in my trunk behind and beneath the folding chairs, plastic tote full of doodads,1st aid kit and seasonal sport flotsam. The car alarm is professionally installed and the volume level is,well, horrific. There is also a powerful strobe in the trunk and passenger compartment. I am careful to make it an unappealing target for theft-no stickers, no items in view. I'm not very concerned about it being broken into at my home for reasons I won't go into. In a public place, especially at night, a thief is unlikely to stay for the show.1 point

The problem with a pressure washer is that the force crushes and breaks the little bones around the nose. It works, you just have to be careful1 point
-
Remove as much flesh as possible from the skull. Set it in a pan of water (just enough to cover the skull) with a touch of Borax added. Boil until the flesh is loose and coming off easily. Clean well and degrease with dawn dish detergent. Allow skull to dry. When dry, paint skull with bleach or hydrogen peroxide from a beauty supply shop. Peroxide from the store isn't strong enough. Keep doing that until it's as white as you want it. Rinse well. Dave1 point

Oh I can resist just fine. The LCR's a fine little revolver, but this new whatever is an abomination. Still it won't bother me a bit if it sells like hotcakes and keeps Ruger employees on the payroll.1 point

Well I suppose it could have been worse but do yourself a favor and get that knee checked out. And just because you weren't in a crosswalk doesn't give anyone the right to not pay attention and run you over like a dog....just sayin'.1 point

Well, I've ordered my stuff; now I just need to buy a lower. I kept fighting the tendency to go as cheap as possible. I decided to use $700 as my comparison point (the two guns in the LGS), and I figured I could go with the premium barrel and MOE stock and still be ahead. So far, so good. I had thought I wanted a mid-length, but the one I originally wanted was already out of stock, and for less money I could get a blemished premium carbine-length upper (Black Friday deal). I hope I don't screw this up.1 point

There are some 4-1 dwarf trees out there if you want variety. Keep in mind dwarf trees while easy to prune are a bit more prone to disease. The multi fruit are expensive but if space is limited (typical house) they can be worth it. Pecans, no love for about 15 years unless you can buy big bucks trees. Self pollinating trees bear more fruit with other varieties nearby. There are ways to deal with bugs and worms without going crazy with spraying Pruning is your friend in all things fruit trees. A lot of trees grow well from seed. Buy some good organic fruit that you like and read up on stratification. Plant a ton of seeds. They are cheap. The ones that survive will be hardy and well adapted to your soil/ environment. Cool thing about trees from seed is that they will catch up to most grafted trees in about 3 years. Funny thing about apples is the seed you plant is probably not the kind of apple you will get. Good on you for planting fruit trees. If we had more people planting fruit in stead of decorative trees people would be healthier and food would be cheaper...1 point

What's the goal we have as hunters? Do we want as many people as we can get buying hunting license and going into the woods to enjoy the sport? That's what I want. I don't care what you hunt with, I don't care what deer you shoot, so long as it's legal. Let's make it easy for folks to get into the woods. One price for deer hunting instead of 3 separate stamps and a type 94 for doe that TWRA wants us to take anyway. I don't see any point in making the process of killing any more difficult. We have a shortage of hunters, not a shortage of deer.1 point

I don't think "H&R" Single shot rifles could be considered "primitive" seeing that they are of modern manufacture. Leave muzzleloader as is or better yet....go "primitive".... Dave1 point
-
It would be fun to see a primitive season consisting of non-compounding bows and atlatls. Kinda seems like the point of primitive hunting gets lost after you add crossbows, inline muzzle loaders with scopes, & single shot rifles. Might as well just make it all rifle season.1 point
-
Hell no. I'm all for an 'actual' primitive weapon season like Colorado. No inlines, no scoped, no sabots, lock on the side.1 point
