It gets old when I keep hearing about the latest "misstatement" in the news by someone. Yet again, we have another one. "VA secretary apologizes for misstating military record" Sounds like a lie to me...I know we live in a world that has developed euphemisms for just about everything, but this one bothers me more than most. Rant off...6 points

I found this a bit refreshing so I thought I'd pass it along..... 'The people can not be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. What country ever existed a century and a half without a rebellion? And what country can preserve it's liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it's natural manure." -Thomas Jefferson4 points

Last year LWRC debuted their PDW at SHOT. I ordered one pretty quickly and have been waiting on them and the ATF. I wanted to do something cool with it since I had seen Modern Outfitters do some really cool stuff. The form 3 cleared today and they finished the coating process. Hope you like .....2 points

I'm actually pleasantly surprised by the comments here on the gay kiss scene. I used to be person who had the attitude that homosexuality and transgender people have some sort of screw loose and chose to live a sinful life. It was how I was raised and that's the primary way people come to develop their worldview. As I grew older, had more life experiences and education, I came to question what I now see as a tired old belief system regarding LGBTQ issues. I figured out that people are people and we don't "choose" how we view our personal identity or sexual preferences. I learned that the simplisirc and literal interpretation of a selectively chosen Bible verse did not fit with the rest of what I read in the New Tesrament, which are the texts that define Christians. I met people, worked with people, and have had students who identified as LGBTQ and virtually all had to deal with the intolerance and stigmatization cast at them, most times backed up with some proof-texting from the Old Testament. Then I realized the absurdity of it all. The idea that I was a cop, have a graduate degree who teaches and does research, shoot guns, load ammo, do leather work, woodwork, can fix my own car, defend my own family, have a wife and two kids, a Christian, etc., but then realize there are people who would discount all of that and treat me as less of a person should I identify myself with a label other than heterosexual male. Frankly I'm glad the scene was there because it obviously brings this issue into the public discourse where it can be discussed and changed. Like one comment I read online said, "Wow. There are gays in zombie apocalypse just like in the real world." On that note, I would encourage you to consider supporting some upcoming legislation that seeks to add gender identity to the Tennessee Human Rights Act. Seems if we can support equal rights for gun owners we can support equal rights for people in general.2 points

Believe it or not a Star PD. Alloy frame, no friggin' grip safety and one of the smoothest single action GM type pistols I've ever shot. PIA because of the proprietary magazines it used and the small plastic guiderod buffer it required about every 1000 rounds...I shot it a lot...and carried it a lot. I sold it in the late 90's...so no pic. rep pic: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=469804060 I've since "gone Glock" and 9mm...but it was a nice little gun. :pleased:2 points

First, I have to say I love electricity, and after 47 years I love it more now than I ever knew! I have read in these survival and preparedness sites that one should voluntarily turn off power for like two days to get accustomed to life without power. For the past two days, I was drafted by the environment due to the major ice event here in my area. Then if that was not enough the approaching sub-zero temperature was my real fear. Last night around 6pm, power was back! Many lessons learned is all that I can say. I know now that I need to cool my gun hobby, and focus on survival items. My primary focus will be short term (1-10 days without electricity)! How to prepare. Here are some points that I learned, but not all points: One can never have too many 50-100' extension cables. Two are not enough. 25' cables sound long, but are very short when needed. One can never have too many fuel jugs. If you have 5, its a great idea to have fuel in them. If you do have fuel on hand, make sure its fresh. Generators are not cougar fans, they do not like older gas. Small Honda EU1000 generator is great for tailgating, but not much more. It will run the blower for the fireplace though, and a CPAP machine. Heaters are out of the question. If you buy a new home with a great fireplace, try it on a good day first, before relying on it for the primary heat in a ice storm event. If your new home has no fireplace poker set, its okay, a tire iron or a crow bar will work. If you buy a new home, make sure you have some level of firewood inventory. There was a panic and run on wood like a run on the banks in 1929. Propane tanks, keep them full too. A similar run on propane like wood occurred. If you have well water and toliets, and no elec, get use to the nursing home smell. LED flashlights will last forever. Just need more. I am talking about large ones. Food? Never entered my mind as I was too busy. Train the wife in many basics of life. That was probably the hardest part. She never bought firewood before, thought it only came from Food City in little bundles. The firewood sellers prey on women of little knowledge of firewood. Guard against junk firewood and the age ole what is the acceptable size of a rick of wood. Many more, I will add as they come to me.1 point

I feel for you man, go ahead and take your pain med, don't let it get too sore before you do because it's harder to knock out. I have a plate and screws in my right fibula, if they don't do that sugery then when the ligiments tighten back it will pull the bones out of alignment and you would have future problems. I've also had bone fragments removed from my left ankle from rolling it over, I promise I know how you feel. Go to physical therapy also, don't skip that. They will make recovery alot faster.1 point

It helped a bit, but still wasn't what I was hoping for. I understand why they set it as they do, but for hunting, everything is just too far away. I determined I really needed something with Zoom. I was shooting a target with my bow at 20 yards and it looked like it was 60 yards away. As hunting is my primary use with it, it just wasn't going to work as I wanted it to. I think for an all around take it anywhere camera, it is great.1 point

Barring any knowledge of the comics, I stopped following that story line a long time ago. I suspect this is a peaceful group they have discovered. There is a significance to the names each 'clan' has given to the dead. Walkers are what Rick's people call them. Biters, that is what the Governor and his folk called them. Rotters, the Atlanta Hospital. Roamers, Alexandria. Note the connotation of the terms. Walkers and Roamers are easier on them, they take the animosity or violence out of it. They are just another obstacle in the world.1 point

As for the gay kiss, Ashton Kutcher thinks you should try it... ya never know: :shhh: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/ashton-kutcher-encourages-men-to-explore-their-sexuality-by-kissing-a-dude-10065085.html Of course the kiss will offend some people. Wonder how many atheists were offended by Father Gabriel giving that sermon?1 point

Nope. I'd much rather be here in the snow and ice than there on the beach. I HATE hot weather. In fact, I went camping in the Smokies this weekend. Battled 60MPH winds and -20 wind chills. It was fun.1 point

I might not take it as far as being programmed or brainwashed. I speak only for myself when I say that I watch less than four hours of television a week total, including news programs. While the news that I do receive is biased, it is very easy to find a second source, or even a third. I find programmed news to be much more poisonous than a one hour programmed drama. Russ Meyer is regarded as the father of the nudie movies. I find his body of work fascinating. And if you are familiar with Russ Meyer, you really got that pun. His first film was released in 1959. He incorporated story and art with his nudity. Unlike previous attempts that were just boudoir voyeur films. Honestly, over the last fifty-five years, only the quality of the film stock has changed. Mudhoney is a personal favorite film of mine. While it may be true that nudity, sex and violence in movies and television have become commonplace, it is unfair to say that this is new. Daytime Soaps have been smutty for how long? You want to tell me that Charlies Angels was really a well written show about the activities of three normal girls? Baywatch was really about saving lives on the beach? I prefer to spend my time worried about tangible things. Will my raise this year be worthwhile? Will my daughter perform well and enjoy her first season in competitive soccer league this year? Will my wife make me some of her awesome fried chicken tonight? Worrying about some liberal agenda that may or may not exist on a device that I choose to utilize for entertainment purposes is very low on that list. After all, if I find it offensive or it makes me uncomfortable, I change the channel, or even more extreme, I turn the television off. Here is a small anecdote, well two. I have a great family, wonderful wife, exceptional daughter. I am fully devoted to them. My wife loves to watch television. She abhors any hint of sex, violence, and sadly intrigue. She is very vanilla in her tastes. She does occasionally enjoy a police procedural. I don't, but sometimes I will tune in from time to time on what she is watching. She got into a show, Criminal Minds I think. Watched a marathon of it. But I noticed a trend in the show to graphically depict the death of children in a spectacular manner. I pointed this out to my wife, and from that day forth I requested that she not watch that show in my presence. Much like her reality television. This wasn't because I wanted to stick my head in the sand and pretend that children never get hurt, it was because I don't enjoy watching, hearing, or otherwise for entertainment purposes, children being hurt/killed/exploited. The last anecdote would be my excitement in purchasing a Playstation 4. The choice of which was heavily favored due to a single game. The Last of Us had been remastered and released and being a Sony exclusive, it made my choice for me. However, and to attempt not to spoil anything, a scene occurred in the first ten minutes of the game that ruined the experience for me, and I quite literally removed it from the console and returned it to the store at that exact moment. Again, not trying to be naive, but as the father of a daughter who is just as into zeds as I am, I couldn't stomach the plot device, regardless of how important it was to the story. At the end of the day I understand that not everyone in the world thinks like I do. Believes what I do. Some folks are religious. Some folks believe that women aren't equal to men. Some folks believe that the color of your skin determines who you are. Some folks think that everyone should live by their set of morals, or laws. Me? I like what I like, and I will be damned if someone tries to take what I like away from me. And with that though, who am I to take what someone else likes away from them? As long as what I do doesn't hurt you, and what you do doesn't hurt me, who are either of us to try and change the other? Diversity is what makes this world spectacular.1 point

willis; Thanks for "doing the work" on this and the update and clarification. It's good to know that beyond my personal experiences with Benchmade (excellent so far) that they are still (again) adhering to quality standards. As mentioned in my first post, I am rather fond of my Griptilian...and I have an AFCK I picked up at Gunsite in 1992 that is one heck of a smooth and ergonomic knife as well. The AFO's look nice btw. Tempting... :pleased:1 point

Took a knee in a surprisingly controlled fashion while walking down the hill through the yard on Tuesday to check the mail. Pretty much stayed down on that knee for most of the slide down to the mailbox. When I got there, I noticed a guy from the county doing inspections at a house under construction across from me was watching the whole ordeal with a grin on his face. He asked me if I meant to do that, then promptly busted his own ass on the ice he was walking across. I should have asked him if he meant to do that but kindness found it's way out of my face-hole and I instead asked if he was alright. I surprise myself sometimes.1 point
