  1. Handicap parking Today I had to go to the hardware store. As I approached the entrance, I noticed a driver looking for a parking space. I flagged the driver and pointed out a handicap parking space that was open and available. The driver looked puzzled, rolled down her window and said, "I'm not handicapped!" Well, as you can imagine, my face was red! "Oh, I'm sorry," I said. "I saw your "I'm Ready for Hillary" bumper sticker and just assumed that you suffer from a mental disorder." She screamed some nasty names at me. Boy!  Some people don't appreciate it when you're just trying to help them out!

  5. About thirty years ago I was a young Highway Patrolman working a hot four lane on the west coast about 25 miles out of town when I got after a new sedan going well over a hundred miles an hour. I finally caught up to him and as he pulled over I ran his plate and found out the car was stolen before we were even stopped. There were three rather mean looking men in the car who later turned out to be wanted all over the state. So as we stopped I rolled out the driver's door and down behind it with the shotgun and began giving them instructions. My biggest concern at the time was that they would pile out the right side and start shooting since I ..............   About the time all of this was racing through my mind, I heard a metallic "clink" from behind me. I took a really quick look back and what I saw is still with me today...........a muddy old Chevy pickup had pulled in behind me, and two ranch hands from a lemon ranch up the road were standing alongside their headlights holding muddy irrigation shovels at port arms, ready to charge the badguys if need be. They weren't about to leave, either - they stayed there until my backup arrived about ten minutes later, naked to any gunfire that might have come their way. They were determined that no badass alive was going to take out one of their cops without a fight, even if it had to be with muddy irrigation shovels.   Yes, people really do that kind of thing. Just take a look out in front of our Recruiting Stations and I'm quite sure you'll see their modern day equivalent - standing there totally exposed in a job they were never trained to do, determined that no badass alive will get to one of their GI's without a fight, and knowing that they probably don't have a prayer of winning.   Give credit where credit is due.

  7. I stopped in to the Guns and Leather Glock Days event this weekend and walked out with a new G30SF.  This was exciting because it was my first gun purchase since moving to TN from California!  Felt awesome paying for the gun and walking out the door with it the same day and not having to wait a week and a half to take it home!   I went with the G30SF because I have a G21SF, but it is just too big to carry every day.  I like carrying my G19, but I really like having the .45 carry option.  Also, the 30 fits the same IWB holster as the 21 and I can use the 21 mags as well, so there was a lot of cost savings in my choice.   Can't wait to get my new baby out to the range today to break it in.   On a side note, I can't say enough about Guns and Leather.  Mark at the Hendersonville location is one of the nicest and coolest dudes you will meet.

  13. Love of country is a powerful motivator, especially after your country has been attacked. I honestly think this is at the root of why these guys stuck their necks out like that. If the same guy had gone into a big bank and shot it up during a robbery, it would have evoked an entirely different public response. But he didn't. In the eyes of these fellows he shot up the United States of America, and to a lot of folks that's still a capital offense worthy of sticking one's neck out for. That's why I can't be critical of them.

  14. Just used a whole can of wasp and hornet spray to kill large numbers of red wasps. There's a gap in the eaves, between the fascia board and soffit in the front of my house that I finally saw where red wasps were coming out so I doused it with the spray, made sure plenty got in there and a swarm of wasps came flying out many dropping. I continued to douse the gap more and more and more came flying out and dropping. No telling how many nests are up there. Also on the back there's an old hole where an outdoor light used to be that I sprayed, again a swarm started falling out. I came back in after that because the few that got away seemed like they were not happy. Hopefully the ones that got away will leave since their nests are contaminated. I'm going to pull a fascia vent off later and pop a bug bomb off in it.

  15.   Glad Zorin is working well for you, dual boot is a decent way to go to get the best of both worlds. I'm thinking of getting a Solid State Drive for my laptop and making it even faster.   Win10 is something I'm holding off on, though.  No need to go through the headaches of "upgrading" when I have a stable system that does everything I need and has enough support for a while.  All the things I'm reading on other sites about Win10 being set up to send a lot of information by default doesn't sit well with me either.

  16. I guess I am also guilty of mass serial Red wasp killing also and did something similar but I waited till night fall after location the three very large nests in my carport were located. I went in under cover of darkness when I knew the nests would be full and I used two cans of Wasp spray. I was tired of them spending so much time on my Hummingbird feeders and not letting the birds eat. Have not see a wasp on any feeder in a couple days now................

  20. Terrorists want to cause as much damage and chaos as they can, so they are not likely to go up against these people. No one is going into a conflict with armed resistance when they can inflict more damage at a "soft" target: therefore, these people are accomplishing something, and just because there's no empirical evidence to point to doesn't mean that it's not happening.

I've found this site to be decent. https://www.kayak.com/flights   Also, if your destination is a hub for any of the airlines (ATL for Delta, Dallas or Chicago for American, ect), it's worth looking at their pages directly.  With the flights going to the hubs anyway to get people on connecting flights, they do all they can to fill them up.

  28.   A couple of years ago a guy near here went down the line of his low cinderblock wall pouring gasoline into about a dozen yellowjacket holes. I mean he really poured in a bunch.  But nobody told him not to light it, so he threw in a match and KAFOOMP!  He had so much deflection and crack damage in the cinderblock wall that he had to replace it. Hmmmmmm, what's that about can't fix stupid?

  33. A quick "...there I was" story...   Spring 2002, somewhere between Kandahar Airfield and Kandahar City, our patrol sees a local group walking by, and there is a donkey with the rope for him being held by a kid I would guess is no more than 8-10yrs old.  Donkey was either uncooperative as Dolo mentions, or got spooked by the trucks following our dismounted element, either way, he wasn't moving.    Kid tugs on the rope, nothing. Kid starts smacking donkey on the rump with a stick (from the side), nothing.  Kid picks up a decent size rock, chucks it full force at donkey's head from about five feet, donkey gets in gear.    As to what they can and cannot carry, in an environment like that, which a post SHTF America may very well look like, an animal to carry your excess gear and equipment is a decent idea and has many advantages over motor transportation for the long term.

  35. To be fair, the only reason Ford keeps the top spot is because GM splits its sales between the Chevy and GMC. If you combine the Chevy and GMC numbers together, then the top spot switches between GM and Ford over the years, though Ford does have the winning spot now and probably will continue to do so for the next several years with the new F-150.

MFGs feel the need to locktite them in ,over kill IMO   I added new bushings and put them in dry and so far they have not loosened up really but  Id rather snug mine down after a range session then worry about them being so tight I cant get them out

  39. I have a win 8 notebook I got back in 2013....I hated it from the start.  I installed win 7 on it...it did better but still had hic ups.  Due to win ten being released I put win 8.1 back on it.   So due to this thread I installed Ubuntu.  I liked it, so I then removed Ubuntu and install Zorin Ultimate...The notebook now flys.    First time dealing with a successful linux install.  I really like it.      Thanks for all the info I got from the thread!!!   It is now dual booted with Win 10 and Zorin so will have to see how it goes.   Thanks again!

Ohh hell yeah.  1/2" PVC made for a great bottle rocket launcher bazooka.   Had one bounce off my ribs and land in my pocket before it pooped off.  That was....uncomfortable.   Fireworks and deviant creativity were a hobby of me and cousin of mine.  We'd unroll a hundred firecrackers under a sheet of plywood, then lay on the plywood as they went off under it.

  45.   Is an 18 year old finance clerk in the Air Force Reserves more qualified to carry a pistol than someone who has been hunting and shooting with his dad since he was a kid? I don't think so.     If you're old enough to be tried as an adult in a court of law, then the government should treat you like a damn adult. Otherwise, change the legal age of adulthood.   What I'd like to see: Constitutional Carry. The Tennessee Constitution clearly states that the legislature may pass gun laws with a clear aim to preventing crime. None of our laws do that.

  47. TN did pass some law related to drones, but I don't remember what it was. In general, I don't think it is a big problem in that most people who have them don't want to use them for nefarious activities. The bigger issue is people flying too high around airports. The worry about cameras is a bit overblown as well. You have to be very close to see much specific in relation to a person. Yes, they could look at things in your yard from very high, but you will never stop that. Hell, if I want a good look at your property I will go to Google.
