To me a trainer stops being top tier when he teaches there is just one right answer for all situations and threats. I was taught to choose tactics by looking at all relevant factors, such as the mission, enemy, terrain, time available, etc. For example, when hiking and camping near GSMNP, a bear encounter's more likely than a disarming and mugging, so I open carry then.3 points

Stand by for date, original date won't work. So I want to put together a big event where we can all show off our bbq rigs, eat some good smoked meat, and bang some steel after the meal. I'll smoke ribs, chuck roast and a pig butt on the smoker. Feel free to bring sides and non alcoholic drinks to contribute. Open carry of fancy leather and engraved pistols is encouraged. Bring out your best. After a big meal of smoked meat and sides we can retire to the back field to bang some steel with pistol and rifle. Address will be posted at a later date or sent via PM. It's in Oliver Springs. Please no alcohol or drugs, they have no place around loaded firearms.1 point

Giving this another shot. Have the gun listed on consignment but want to move it…I have a 1908 DWM Luger “first issue” that is matching minus the magazine (which the magazine numbers are so obscured that if you stare enough it could appear to match the rest of the pistol but I will leave that up to your own interpretation). 1908s in this range did not have chamber date and some parts were marked in the commercial (hidden) style of placement. I did not fully disassemble to take photographs of all parts but a serious buyer can have their look over it in person. The pistol is unit marked to the 107th Infantry Regiment of the 24th Infantry Division. I purchased this pistol from a long-time serious collector who was downsizing their collection. The pistol has some pitting issues and finish issues, as seen in the photographs, but for being 116 years old and likely fighting in at least one World War it still presents well. Asking $1400, meet around Murfreesboro. Trade interests would be: KAC Rifles, LMT, and WWI/ WWII firearms. Will entertain other offers.1 point

Good, I will have to add it to the watchlist. Costner's movie wasn't bad but definitely could have been better. I watched Tank on Netflix last night, haven't seen that since I was a kid.1 point

Well it is a forum for discussion. No one has gotten ugly yet. There have been a few reasons brought out here on both sides. I wouldn't consider myself as preferring open carry as I would rather be gray. But I think the best reason was something Col. Jeff Cooper said, "an armed society is a polite society". Though our current society might change his view it makes sense that OC would be a deterrent in most cases. It is more comfortable, and it is obviously quicker out of the holster. I know, there are two sides to everything but there's my two cents on the pros.1 point

Thanks - all of my other CZ's have been cajunized but I decided this would stay stock. The trigger pull on this is very clean from the factory. But I'll probably end up keeping it so I'll cajunize it once I pull it from here.1 point

Birchwood pike is just up the road from me here in Harrison. It has a good deal of diversity as you drive one end to the other. Not too uncommon here in the county where you’ve got some nice homes on land mixed with trailers. It’s a major thru way, heavier traffic than most and has more than its share of crime. just a couple miles away, it’s much quieter without any incident to note. I don’t know if it’s just me, but that mug shot screams crazy old curmudgeon. Doesn’t it? Maybe ahead of the curve at 56.1 point

According to the article I read this morning, the family was NOT on the shooter's property. I hope they throw him in jail for a very long time. Even if there's a backstory, there's no excuse for shooting at people under those circumstances.1 point
-
Then there was a commenter at the bottom of the article- Primarily blaming all the carry laws and us nut cases that are allowed to bear arms- We just always want to whip out our gun and shoot at someone- How about putting the blame exactly where it belongs-squarely on the shoulders of the shooter and leave the rest of us out of it-1 point

I saw 2 guys open carrying over the last couple of months. 1 was at Sams, it was busy and i was not in a hurry so i covertly watched to see how people reacted. Guess what? nothing, no one even looked. No one stared, no one gasp as he walked by, no one went screaming from the store. It was no difference than if he was not carrying at all. Good for him.1 point

Another pre-SHOT leak. This time it's Primary Arms new HTX-1 enclosed emitter optic. https://www.primaryarms.com/htx-1 This one looks REALLY interesting to me as it uses a modular chassis system that, unlike conventional optics mounting plates, adds nothing to the overall height of the optic over the slide. In fact, if you watch the video that Primary Arms did for the announcement you will see that the optic co-witnesses with standard height Glock sights on a Glock MOS pistol. The chassis system also has a chassis plate that is compatible with the RMR-2 type mount that uses posts for the screw mounts. Zev slides and the Zev OZ9 are two slides that immediately come to mind as using this style mount which has hitherto made it challenging to find optics that were completely compatible if they deviated from the RMR footprint in the slightest. More info here...1 point

I don't mean to sound flippant. You're in a crappy situation. I think state or federal level help will be required, the locals are far too entrenched. Even TWRA can be ... difficult. I used to work with a guy who's son was a game warden. If half the stories he told were accurate, it'll be an uphill battle. The problem I see is racoon hunting without permission may not be thought of as a big deal at the higher level. Racoons aren't exactly endangered. I think you'll need to find something more to get their attention.1 point

Threatening my wife would get one evicted from my AO to be sure.to say I'd go to war for her is an understatement. I do understand the dynamic of the area though. I personally wouldn't offer any compromise, just a suggestion for a more tolerant person. At this point, lots of concertina wire would crisscross my property, it could easily be pulled back for the livestock. And I am not advocating that anyone do what I would as I'm intolerant and unforgiving.1 point
-
If they had told my Wife we need to move, that wouldn't be an option. A thinly veiled threat is still a threat. I've given my opinion of how to legally fix the situation. I wouldn't have handled it like that after the threat, but I would have removed their ability to hunt my land.1 point

I think you are getting ready to see how corrupt the law enforcement and judicial system is in East Tennessee. Just my opinion.1 point

Thank you, I will be bringing this up with TWRA when we receive a call back. I'm now working with Knoxville TWRA now since we have after hours happy hour happening on the regular. I'm too old and have too many health issues to be missing sleep like this, I start my day at 4am. All pastures are fenced and currently have cattle rotated. We have great neighbors that ask to hunt and don't bring a pack of baying hounds with them. I have to follow up to see if they actually came out. No neighbors on our street have consented, nor do they approve of these activities. I've been gathering status quo on this to make sure I'm not the one with the wrong thinking. None have wanted to speak up out of fear of upsetting these guys.1 point

The town the OP has in her profile has about 1300 people in it. This is also part of the problem. The guys probably have been coon hunting like this for 30 years. I think that's why involving people outside of the local area is a good idea. If they a buddies with the local TWRA officer, he will not want to lose his job. There are federal fish and game officers. That town is close to KY.1 point

Do you have a positive ID on the culprit? Is he in fact a fireman? If so, contact his Chief and the Mayor of his town/county. Most cities/counties have an ethics clause in their employment rules that allows for termination for people who's actions bring dishonor to their department. He may think twice if his job is on the line.1 point

Thank you for the tips... I have thought of posting publicly in local groups as well as his FD page. This guy knows exactly how this goes, LEO said they have to be present for actual trespassing and he's lickety split by then. He also parks in others' access drives or in the ditch of a holler. Non of the neighbors have given permission for hunting either. The last time these hunters were out, two weeks ago, they parked on the road and hopped the fence back to the road when the call was dispatched to LEO and they packed up shortly before their arrival. Have I been given incorrect info and all I need is photographic evidence for a case? I was told they have to be caught in the act, on the property, not in the ditch or road. They had been told not to hunt on the property over 3 years ago, they started getting aggressive this year and shining lights in the trees near the house and seemingly has gotten worse since we have had to chain our dogs at night and we have not met their trespassing with aggression.1 point

Speak to an attorney. You know who this tresspasser is, a simple letter from an attorney might do the trick. I agree with what Alleycat wrote, too. Posting a picture on the FD's FB page will get the attention of the chief and the commissioners.1 point

Get pictures. Send them to everyone in TWRA, local law enforcement, and Fire department. Make sure his captain gets it. Post it on the fire departments facebook page. Any Facebook page for the local area. Have their truck towed if it's on your property. This is all assuming you have told them not to hunt your property. Cell cameras will be invaluable for this.1 point
-
Welcome to TGO. Have you been able to capture them on any of the cameras you mentioned ? If it were me I would obtain solid evidence of them trespassing then seek out a higher authority to plead my case. This may require you to spend more on cameras but well worth it if it's causing you this much grief. That's a lot of acreage to keep watch over, especially in the area you show to be in. Good luck and happy new year !1 point

My favorite 38 Special target load consists of a 148 grain hollow base wadcutters atop 2.7 grains of Bullseye. That equates to 2592 rounds per can if I don’t spill any. I wish I could get that kind of mileage out of a can of 4350 in 30-06!1 point
-
The cool thing about Bullseye is a pound will load a bunch of rounds of anything it’s suitable for.1 point

@BigK I believe that was David (Mosley?) (DLM or DLM37015). There's some discussion about him in another thread. Great guy and very knowledgeable. Lot's of good folks in this thread: https://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/133656-762x39-gunpowder/#comment-1744353 @Bill P I haven't seen much of any Alliant Powder for a while now. And $40.00 - $50.00 + for pound when you do see it. And that's usually with Hazmat/shipping or some sort of extra. I have a few pounds left from the more reasonably priced days and delegate it to specific favored .38 loads.1 point

I miss the real Gun Shows we used to have way back then, you could just about find what you were looking for to buy or trade, but those are few now. On the subject about selling guns I guess it's up to the shows sponsors to set what rules to go by, but I still can't understand that the ATF just can't make up laws without congress in-acting them into law. They can suggest any sort of so called "Law" of what they want to do but I believe it needs approval before and then signed into a law, I may be wrong but as far as I understand TN doesn't have a law that says I need to meet a buyer at a FFL to do any paperwork on a Private Sale unless the Buyer want to do that and also make sure they are of age, until then I'm going to keep doing what I've always done.1 point
-
Good luck with that. Oh the irony that the government is trying to make something illegal because people use a substance that used to be illegal, but isn't illegal anymore in some places partially because laws were not effective in stopping people from using it.1 point
