  2. And if things still freak you out, God offers a supernatural solution: "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:6-7)

  4. So, I am officially two months / 9 weeks / and nearly 20lbs less of me into it now and my two (sometimes three) days of Krav Maga each week are the best days of the week. I am totally hooked. If you had told me in December that my stamina, agility, confidence, and sense of self-satisfaction would have increased so dramatically I would have told you that you were nuts. Adding to my love of it, I've bought the pads and striking shields needed to come home and show my kids some of it and my oldest loves a good elbow strike or knee strike about as much as I do and she has no remorse for aiming at sensitive spots when she lets a good kick rip.

  5. I've done very well in the market so far this year. If you want to invest in the stock market, here are some free tips, so they are worth exactly what you've paid for them. 1. Educate, Educate, Educate yourself. Even if you're going to use an advisor. Good education isn't cheap but it will more than pay for itself. 2. Educate yourself some more. Study charts daily. It is the long game, not a get rich quick scheme. 3. Turn off the news. NEVER trade the news. News controls retail traders, not investors. Learn who actually controls the markets. You will be very surprised. 4. Stay off social media for advice, it's worse than the news. Don't listen to neighbor Bill either. If you do get a tip, do your own research. Remember that educate yourself thing? 5. Educate yourself some more. Know how to get your own information from real, reliable sources about companies, and know what that information means. 6. Do not attempt to day trade. Bots can trade 1000s of times a second. You can't. 7. Practice simulated trading until you can be positive on your trades 75 to 80% of the time. There are many free simulators out there. If you can be positive on 75 to 80% you will be crushing it and ready to hit the real market. 8. Did I mention educating yourself. It should never stop. 9. Have a plan and stick to it regardless of whats happening around you. ALWAYS have an exit strategy and get out per your plan. 10. DON'T GET GREEDY. The old saying is never truer than in the market. Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered. If done properly, the stock market is not really that big of a risk. If not done properly it will eat you alive.

  6. Since I’m a dumbass. I have chosen dollar cost averaging as my chief strategy. I buy a predetermined amount of several different mutual funds each month, regardless of what current market conditions show. It has treaded me well for decades now. Your mileage may vary.

  7. I will. If you want to see it and hold it, chances are Guns & Ammo has it. There have been good and bad personalities there over the years, but I've generally been treated well. I wondered if the weekend clientele would eventually convince them to move east. Wonder what the rest of the story is.

  9. I'm extremely risk-averse, so single stocks, day trading, and stock trends scare the heck out of me. I'm with you guys touting index funds. It's the only time I value diversity for diversity's sake alone.

  15. I always liked their inventory, but the risk of getting robbed (I think I shared the story on TGO) leaving the store made me stop shopping there years ago.

  16. I haven't been inside of their store in probably 10 years or better- They did have a ton of guns but lacked in the personality department- Parking was always so poor so I quit even going to look- I tried talking with their smith about a part for one of my 1911's-that was not a pleasure for sure-

  18. Love that saying! Exactly what I tell my patients: focus on what you can control in life vs. what you cannot, for when you try to control something that is not yours to control, the result is anxiety.

  19. My wife got back in the Taco business. A 23 model with 35k miles. Mt word, they've gotten expensive! This one ought to last us a long time. I really want to get one with the 6cyl before they all disappeared. The new turbo 4cyls may be great, but I'm not going to er a test dummy.

  27. A great point. One needs to know their risk tolerance and stay within their comfort zone. There is no one size fits all. I know many many financially healthy people who only invested in index and target funds. Discipline and time are your friends in the market regardless of your trading style. I am extremely risk tolerant but very disciplined in the amount I have at risk for position trading. Never have everything in one basket.

  32. Stock market is fine. The valuations were getting out of whack, and we're seeing some reality come in. Still way more to shake out as AI costs and impacts ripple over the next decade or so. The S&P is trading above the normal PE ratio still, so be ready for more drops if the economy stalls. All that said, I'm not selling a thing. The long term trend of the market is up and to the right if you're actually diversified well enough. I wouldn't try to gauge individual stocks beyond a mental exercise. I'm just gonna stick with my total market index fund. Don't just do something, sit there.

  38. Sunday afternoon I shoveled 22 13 gallon bags of leaves and road grit from the street. Sprayed it down with the water hose and got 3 more heavy bags of grit. Now city code shouldn't have anything to complain about. I'll tackle the limbs and leaves in the yard later. Yesterday I searched the backyard for snakes to drive out. None found so I had corned beef and cabbage for dinner. Head to West clinic for the 10 am visit. With the CT it will be about an hour longer. Lab work, CT, visit with doctor then infusion. Hope to be back home by 4 pm.

  39. I'll second the Suzuki DL-650 recommendation (i.e., the V-Strom, often referred to as the Wee-Strom to differentiate it from its 1000cc 'sibling'). These have plenty of get up & go, get 50mpg or more, have a great passenger seat, along w/a flat spot on the back for mounting a Givi top-box. Best of all, you might actually find one in your price range. This is considered a dual-sport but it is really a "standard" style motorcycle. V-twin engine, chain drive, EFI, tubeless tires...all the good stuff you want on a modern bike. Some models even have ABS, which is a major plus as a safety feature.

  44. My wife and I both carry the 43X. If you get a good purchase and disciplined grip on the G19 and are used to shooting with the Glock grip angle--then the transition to a 43X from a 19 is gravy. I upgraded the OE sights with Ameri-glo night sights. Added an extended metal mag release so the firearm could accommodate the Shield 15 round mags. Added a flared mag well and changed the OE trigger to an Apex replacement because Glock stock trigger shoes are continually the worst part of the gun for me no matter the model. The size is perfect for CCW and the hand grip allows a good full purchase for a guy like me with sausage fingers-- I also added the Talon grip appliqués. Never had an issue with the Talon tape coming off during multiple high volume fire training events no matter the weather. So-- I carry the 43X 90% of the time along with/a spare 15 round mag. The other 10% vacillates between the Sig 365XL w/Romeo 0 red dot and Wilson Combat grip upgrade...and a 1911 CDR.

  45. My truck has sat at the curb so long that leaves dammed up at the tires. Knowing Saturday's rain would be heavy I got the truck onto the driveway. Scooped the leaves into piles where the truck sat. Got a charger hooked up to the truck's battery. Yesterday after the heavy rain came through I looked at the end of the driveway. Water was about 6 inches onto the end of it. Today I need to get the leaves bagged for pick up later. I haven't got a call back from the head doctor yet. The MRI of my brain must be good. Tuesday, 3/18 is another chemo infusion and a CT. Will know how the cancer is doing after that. I wear out fast and my wife doesn't like me not able to cook daily. I can't cook small so we have leftovers for a few days which she doesn't like. A can of manwich and a box of mac & cheese is good for 3 dinners. 2 days in a row and skip a day or 2 for the rest. Friday is my shopping day at Kroger for 2X fuel points. Angus ground beef was on clearance Friday $3.20 per 1 lb pack, got all 8 of them. Meat removed from packs and put into seal a meal bags. Had plans to get the large pack of 88/12 at Sam's. Saves me weighing out into smaller packs. I need to make some load blacks for reloading 410. A 303 Britt head is 1/2" and a 410 head is 33/64". After a long search at Buck's I found a 9/16" paddle bit for $3.50. Deciding on what wood to use, oak, walnut, eastern cedar, gum, poplar, cherry. 3/4" thickness is all I have, drill through 1 piece and glue to another. 1/8" space between holes, 50 rds per block. Plan to make 4, maybe 8. Leave the wood natural with a clear coat finish without stain. The guy across the street died 2 years ago. The family sold the house to a rental company. While the house was being remodeled I got 2 truckloads of stacked lumber from the attic. 3" oak flooring, Cypress, oak, walnut rough cut 1"X6, 8 and 10" wide boards to 16 ft long. Another load of oak flooring from the house, some stained and glued. The clean oak boards are used for cooking and fireplace. Stained and glued boards mixed with other wood is burnt in the fire pit.

  47. Not Krav-related, but I took this same approach when I bought my first guitar about 9 years ago and started taking lessons about 8 years ago (which ended with Covid and I never started up again). I still suck and am a beginner at best, but I like it. My younger self couldn't have understood that I didn't have to be good at something to enjoy it. It's why I quit golf in my early 20s. I sucked at it and knew I wouldn't be able to enjoy it unless I got good and that was a long road between my hooks and slices to being anywhere close to "good". Now I think I could go and have fun even if I shoot double par but I have too many other hobbies to add THAT one to the list . . . It took me a long time to understand what Kurt Vonnegut was onto with this: “When I was 15, I spent a month working on an archeological dig. I was talking to one of the archeologists one day during our lunch break and he asked those kinds of “getting to know you” questions you ask young people: Do you play sports? What’s your favorite subject? And I told him, no I don’t play any sports. I do theater, I’m in choir, I play the violin and piano, I used to take art classes. And he went WOW. That’s amazing! And I said, “Oh no, but I’m not any good at ANY of them.” And he said something then that I will never forget and which absolutely blew my mind because no one had ever said anything like it to me before: “I don’t think being good at things is the point of doing them. I think you’ve got all these wonderful experiences with different skills, and that all teaches you things and makes you an interesting person, no matter how well you do them.” And that honestly changed my life. Because I went from a failure, someone who hadn’t been talented enough at anything to excel, to someone who did things because I enjoyed them. I had been raised in such an achievement-oriented environment, so inundated with the myth of Talent, that I thought it was only worth doing things if you could “Win” at them.”
