It was a nice day for a motorcycle ride yesterday, and I came across this near Georgetown. Sorry about the poor pic, I didn't have a "real" phone with me and had to use my phone, with which I have NO practice. Still, I thought the car and the service station were really cool.

Situations may vary, but most of the time a rifle is not the best home-defense choice. Over penetration is a real concern with the bullet very capable of passing through multiple walls inside the house and exiting the house. Either can strike an unintended target you couldn't see but are still responsible for. It's also harder to move through a confined space with a rifle. The AR platform makes that somewhat easier with collapsible stocks and usually a significantly shorter overall length compared to a traditional hunting rifle. Home layout, construction, and location are variables unique to each person, so YMMV. But an AR-15 is a very good rifle for lots of different things and can be kitted out to your personal tastes pretty easily. +1 to Palmetto State. As for the alphabet folks, there are north of 20 million AR-15s in the USA. They simply can't knock on that many doors. If there ever is a gun grab, it won't come in the form of random door knockers. But if you really don't want a paper trail, buy private sale in Tennessee. A great way to do that is to become a member here on TGO and post a WANT TO BUY ad in the TGO Trading Post describing what you want and your budget.

Ar15s are fantastic. My HDG is an 11.5" suppressed 5.56 with an Aimpoint. 77gr razor core. I've killed a few deer with this gun. I would hesitate to grab my 16" or 18" with 62gr tsx for any deer. I've killed a bunch of hogs with the 18". Really all about the ammo. Ar15s are really easy for teaching kids how to shoot. The gun can be fitted to their size and grow with them. I do keep a 14" 870 with 8 pellet Federal flight control around also.

I personally don’t think too much of AR’s for hunting or home defense if we’re talking .223/5.56mm, but I don’t hunt and in my abode a rifle is inappropriate. If it’s reached obsession point, Just go to Palmetto State Armory’s website and order the cheapest one they have and get it out of your system for $500-$600, maybe less. They make very serviceable, quality, and accurate weapons. Don’t fret about politics, society, or alphabets…that’s all overrated.

If I wuz gonna split between hunting home defense, I would recommend a Palmetto State Arms 300 BO carbine. They are cheap. They work well, and they are a man stopper n light game getter. The price would be low, and ya could save some dollars n buy a good trigger to drop into it ( or any other AR ) and maybe it a bunch more usable for both jobs. The ammo is about as reasonable as 556 if ya shop around. Also, there are states where ya can't hunt large game with a 22 caliber. leroy.

Winchester Model 1903 Rifle for sale. The Model 1903 is the first Semi-auto rifle made by Winchester Repeating Arms Company. They were made from 1903 to 1932. The first 5000 guns were made without a safety (no safety button) and were advertised as "automatics", but were semi-auto design. It is a blowback design with a ten round tube magazine. The serial number and consultation with the Winchester Arms Collector organization indicates this one was made in 1903. I got this from a Winchester collector in Cookeville, TN. this one is mine and it was better than advertised. this is one of the nicest shooting guns i've ever owned. i don't remember my other sp-01 tactical being that sweet but it's been a while since i shot it.

Charlie, if you're just learning the ropes, don't limit yourself to just chasing trout. Bluegill are a blast on a flyrod, and they're spawning now. Find a pond or lake with shallow banks and wear 'em out. I've flyfished for many years, still do, but tend to chase "other species" nowadays. I've caught redfish in Florida on fly, and poor man's redfish, aka common carp, up here along the banks of the Cumberland river during summer time. My best, a 12 lb carp, is quite the battle on a fly rod!

Looking to rehome a Springfield armory full size echelon, I have made the decision to only keep glocks in my collection. At 10 feet: That .380 delivers ~170 lbf of force. That 9mm delivers ~330 lbf force. That 9mm is a rounding error away from delivering DOUBLE the punch of the .380. There actually is an overwhelming difference between 9mm and .380. That .380 may be adequate given the situation, but the 9mm is undeniably a significantly more effective round, all else being equal. Also remember those force calcs are on .380 with a 3" bbl and the 9mm is with a 4" bbl. Shorter barrels will produce less force for both rounds, and the .380 doesn't have much to spare. It kind of makes the case for the Bersa Thunder-sized .380 guns IF the .380 is the round a person chooses to carry. At 3.5", it's delivering about as much as that round can manage. BTW, a comparable .45ACP delivers only about 10% more than that 9mm with about 390lbf. Modern 9mm is a highly effective cartridge.

I'll have to double check and get back with you on this. I cant remember off the top of my head if the cables and software are the same for the two Yaesu radios or not. Sounds like maybe the wrong cable for the Baofeng. Some won't transfer data.

That's a very nice offer! OP you should consider it, you really cant get a sense of it until you hear the differences in person and by host. I moved from a blue state so never heard one in person until buying a couple. TBAC and PEW are good for background. If you take a look at their rankings, some surprising differences in ranking based on hosts chosen for testing. Consider TBAC has some skin in the game as well, PEW does not. For example, one chose not to run a 22 pistol in their testing so one particular can recognized as top tier for 22 pistols (engineered specifically for pistol use) flipped to different ends of the scale in each of the result sets for the two testers mentioned. That difference reads overstated when hearing the difference in person. The printed can vs machined are allowing for some differences to factor. Do you want ultimate suppression vs minimal gas to the face in a rifle. Do-it-all versions or specific use is something you need to decide on. Hopefully HPA allows things to get cheap after initial demand price surge dies down and more manufactures jump into the arena (until a blue admin comes in anyway) I thought I had read the 4473 was going to a thing, good to hear its not. Hopefully if the Senate sends back / passes it, they don't add something to crazy so it's neutered.

I have had both shoulders scoped and had several large bone spurs ground out. Left shoulder had a small tear which they dressed up. Basically had Arthritus in both shoulders. I am 77 and both shoulders are pain free now. To get back to the subject of Bersaguys post. Just went to the Hornady site and looked at Critical Defense for both 380 and 9 MM. 380 Critical Defense FTX HP bullet. 90 Gr bullet from 3" brl 925 FPS 14 to 16" penetration with small wound channel. 9 MM 115 Gr critical Defense FTX 4" brl 1122 FPS 14 1/2 "penetration IMO, either of these calibers will do the job. The 9 MM is better, but the 380 put in the right place will do. Just not that much difference in either. The 380 did have one round that only expanded a minimal amount and traveled to 20" penetration with a very small wound cavity. There is a small difference in barrel lengths which has some bearing on velocity. The 380 tested in a 3 inch brl, 9 MM in a 4 inch brl. That has a different effect on bullet expansion. Also the 9 MM bullet is a 115 gran opposed to the 380 at 90 gr bullet. Guys just not a large overwhelming difference in these 2 calibers. The 9 MM is superior; however, the 380 could very well be adequate.

I don't believe even that would help me with the RIA. Getting a proper grip and reaching the trigger on that particular piece are not going to happen. I have a PT111 G2 as well as earlier Taurus pistols in .45. The heavy sandpaper like texture on the G2 would be great on the 45s. I'll find something that will work for me when I get to the point of being serious about it. I have some other wants that are ahead of the 10 for now. But then again, the G2 was an impulse buy. It is in great shape and the price I couldn't pass up.

You did well on Yaesu's. I have both of those Yaesu's and they are excellent radios. I have my FT3DR with me all the time. I use RT Systems to program them and all my other radios. Easy to copy and paste from radio to radio. I use Chirp software to program Baofengs. Many use it to program other radios but it doesn't always play well with others and there are reports of it bricking Yaesu's etc. No personal experience on that.

Always have wanted a Megastar in 45. I carry a Firestar in that caliber and love everything about it but the weight. Star didn't make light firearms for sure. When I first heard about the RIA 10mm double stack I was very excited. Then I picked one up and it was a hard no. I have owned a Para 14.45 and a Witness 45 and was expecting a double stack 10mm to be thinner not so much thicker that I can't literally get a grip on it. I'll keep looking but so far it seems single stack is going to be the 10 for me. Or maybe a witness. One question for all you 10 shooters, will 40 S&W run in a 10mm?

But I think a 4473 will still be a requirement.

I have a bunch of cans and if you're looking for tiny. The Bowers Bitty is about as small as it gets. I run CCI std vel and out of the tx22 is super quiet, also have one mounted to a Romanian M69 .22 trainer, and a ruger LCP II. Oddly enough we got a lot of ejection port noise with the Bitty out of the Ruger Mk4 22/45 lite and put an SWR warlock on instead.

There may be a lesson there about selling multiple guns, quite a bit of value, using an unconventional payment means. I don't mean to imply that one shouldn't accept gold, but for a big trade it might be worth the expense of a professional evaluation.

I think the " High End AR " thing wuz a thing invented by the " high end " builders to harvest more dollars thru either trickery or to lure the " Pride in Ownership " crowd in ta harvest their dollars. It's the same thing with the high end 1911 builders/sellers. An AR is an assemblage of parts. If the parts are good and the assembly is good, the weapon is good --- warfare good... I build all my ARs. The heart of em is the barrel n trigger group. Everything else is fluff n hype other than the bolt carrier n bolt... Food for thought. leroy..

I'm a lot more interested in building ARs nowadays, but if I were leaning high end and wanted to maximize bang-for-the-buck, I would look at BCM.

I've been voting outside the two main parties for awhile as I don't trust either. No one in is willing to give up power, money and influence for the good of the country or people - I think that should be pretty clear by now.
