4.   It does hurt. Stupid stuff like this prompts businesses to post which has a direct impact on us. It also reinforces stereotypes in the minds of the non-gun-enthusiast voters, pushes voters in the indifferent-middle towards the antis, and creates an atmosphere for knee-jerk legislation for those voters to support.

 5.   He's being treated same as everyone else. TNDOS will not issue a permit to anyone when they find record of a charge with no formal final disposition. If same crops up during a 4473 check from NICS or TICS, one will be denied firearm purchase also. Happens routinely, and others here have had same problem either with purchasing firearms or getting HCP, or both.   There is no "case" at this time because he hasn't been "wronged" at this time.  If you want to go all Spartacus on something, try the legitimacy of needing a carry permit in the first place under TN's own constitution.   - OS

 11. The interview went great. I start the pre-training the second friday in June and it goes for 3 total fridays. 7 am to 3:30 pm each day.   I know it's no guarantee of a job but i have also heard the initial training is worse than the job itself. I guess they have to weed out those who want to work and those who just want to goof off.   Just glad they are giving me a chance. Thanks all

 13.
be careful where you shoot them things. I shot some out of a M1 carbine once and started a leaf fire on my dirt pile.
I used to downplay the risk of tracers causing fires, I figured as long as I had a proper backstop it would be OK. Well we took some 5.56 Nato military tracers out to a public range one day, it had a huge mountain as a backstop, nothing but hundreds of vertical feet of dirt, covered by some huge fallen timber logs, no loose brush. On the day we were shooting it had been raining like a monsoon for almost 24 hours, and was still pouring so bad that it was difficult to see the targets through the scopes. So everything was completely soaked and muddy. Yet those tracers set the mountainside on fire after just a few shots, and it burned red hot flames despite the rain. We walked up to check it and the wet logs were burning near each point of impact. Took us 15 minutes to put it out, and the owners of the range and all the other shooters were shocked, never seeing anything like it, and we would have bet anything against a fire being started under those conditions. So have fun but please be careful, more careful than you might think necessary.

 14. I have debated 357/38 vs others for SHTF for years. Honestly I think a 40 with a 9mm conversion barrel is a lot better SHTF BOB. What really interest me about a 357/38 is that I don't need magazines and handloads are easier made.

 16. Yep. I think it's important to remember that there are a lot of Dems out there who support gun rights. Even if you don't agree with a lot of their other policies, it's possible to find common cause with this. Especially against their more lunatic fringe.

 18. H&K USP platform     i have always been a fan of the mag release on these pistols. i have a broken bone in my thumb which unless i shoot a single stack handgun, makes it hard for me to reach the mag release. with the H&K i can train my index finger to drop the mag and it allows me to utilize the double stack platform without adjusting my grip every time i engage the mag release. i also prefer the way the slide is cut, flat top with the sides having a prominent angled drop. The reliability is also a deciding factor with the history H&K has built for itself. the only downfall is the proprietary accessory rail and the price of magazines or any part for that matter.       i started lets hear from someone else

 20. Yep.  Seems very unsafe, but there is a very small handful of people I trust enough to "break the 180" with.  If I know that they are aware and competent enough (and I tell them I'm moving up), I would do it.   Without doing something similar, combat troops could never "leapfrog" toward the enemy.  By that, I mean one provides covering fire and the other moves up.  Someone with actual combat training can correct my terms, please.

 27. Got to go with my first love, S&W revolvers. The first gun I ever owned was a used S&W Highway Patrol model 28 with 6" barrel. Pure pleasure to shoot. The combination of wood and blued metal just looked sexy, and felt right in my hands. Not to mention the weight of the gun made even hot .357 magnum reloads easy to shoot. I loved the sound of the gun and the flash of the ball of fire every time I pulled the trigger. I kept it for many years, even using it as my carry gun when I worked for the Sheriff's department. I sold the Smith in order to buy my first Glock 17. Half the weight, and just as many rounds in one magazine and in the tube as I could carry in my Smith plus two speed loaders. Now as I get older, and hopefully a little wiser, I still appreciate the utility of the Glock, but I would love to find another old model 28. Would make a great range gun/ BBQ gun/night stand companion. I would not hesitate to use it for a CCW given the right holster. :)

 28. Gangs have been an issue in Chicago long before I moved away from up there in 1967. Back then it was knives and ball bats and a meeting in the park to discuss turf boundaries and if it went to the next level and knives and ball bats where needed the only ones that got hurt was gang members. Today's gangs are not really gangs. They are hoodlums and have no respect for turfs or innocent people not involved. They just open fire and who ever gets hit gets hit. If the Mayor of Chicago really wanted to end the violence in his city he would go out of his way to arm  the good upstanding people in his city and allow them to take care of it along with the police but when you have an undermanned Police force which probably half their own kids are these hoodlums doing the killings your never going to win. I have friends that I have known my whole life that still live up there and we talk often. A few of the gangs on the south side decided to expand their turf to Will county out side of the protection of the Chicago PD. Bad idea. When they moved in Lockport Illinois a bunch of them ended up dead and a dump truck took their remains back up to the South side of Chicago in Blue Island and dumped them in an alley on their old turf. All where killed with Joe Biden's favor weapon and no one laid claim to it but it let the gangs in Chicago know to stay out of Will county. The Chicago Sun Times Newspaper called it a gang related incident and it was 1 paragraph on about page 14 right next to KFC advertisement and coupons. !7 kids between ages 13 and 17 died that night and it made 1 paragraph on page 14. That is how the News Medias now consider killing in Chicago. There was also a fire that night in Lockport and an old vacant house burned to the ground and even though FD responded they just let it burn down. That was what was going to be the gangs new clubhouse and rumor has it that was were all these kids met their Waterloo but the fire covered up any evidence to prove it. I might call it Vigilante justice or maybe just clearing out some trash but it got the point across  to stay in Chicago..........I will see if I can get one of my buddy's to send me a news clip of it. Happened about a year ago.......................

 31.   True enough ... but TICS (or NICS, or both) does the same, just doesn't seem to catch as many of them for simple 4473 check, don't really know the diff in what's searched, though. The somewhat lame excuse I read somewhere was that without a final determination, they can't be sure that the final charge wasn't copped or bumped to another charge that would be disqualifying.   They also changed their policy on the variable requirements and price for new residents with out of state permits about a year ago, now all must submit to the whole drill and pay full price. Of course, the original policy was their call only, too.   A more blatant disregard for 39-17-1351 though is the shall-issue-within-90 days thang, though it's not too common anymore seems. Personal experience with that myself, with both initial permit, and though renewal is not 90 day specified,  mine took 4 months and that was after calling about it (never did find out what the glitches were in either case). But Lisa told me in person at a gun show about a year ago that they would NOT issue a permit before all background checks came in, regardless of the 90 day provision.   You'll notice that there are very few administrative laws on the books that specify any type penalty for anyone when the state disregards them, eh?   But anyway, main point here is that the OP isn't being treated any differently than anyone else in the same circumstance. You can bitch about the process, but he isn't a special case for discrimination or whatever. He didn't really need a "legal opinion" just explanation of the status quo procedure.   But okay, my "legal opinion" is that the HCP requirement itself is unconstitutional, how's that? :)   - OS

 32. there is gunfire around here constantly.  Of course most of it comes from the sheriff's training center which is nearby.   really the only gripe that could stick is disturbing the peace or some noise law.  I shoot at reasonable hours and try to be very considerate of people that live around me.  Though none of them are downrange.   You might want to have your contractor pile the dirt they displace while building your home's foundation  and driveway at the base of the cliff you will be using as a backstop.

 36. Well, figured I would revive this thread. I found my pet load and what I needed. I ended up with LC 12-13 brass neck turned to .0135, flash holes chamfered and primer pockets reamed. COAL 2.005 Ogive OAL 2.238 (.01 off lands) 43.6 grs IMR 4064 178 AMAX 210M primers This gave me 2599 with the chrono and it being my high node. I had to settle for this because nothing was acceptable above it, the groups really opened up a lot the higher I went. I shot the F-class on the 24th and with my 20" barrel I didn't do to bad. 558 overall, and my last relay giving me a 193-5x which I'm pretty happy with. I'll tinker with OAL a little when I have time, but for now this load is my go to load.

I've never traded with guitar center, but a coworker has a couple times.  He got one screaming deal on an amp (Mesa triple-rec) once, but otherwise the deals have been average IMO.  Trading with them is like trading anywhere else... If they want what you got, you'll get a good deal.  If there's 1000 others just like what you have, you won't.

 40. They are done with real flares and if your ever near an airport when a hero or more are being brought there all of the pilots do the Angel Star burst on a fly over before landing. I have not seen any in sometime so not sure if Obama has stopped them or not but last one I saw was at Nashville about 2 years ago when 3 hero's were being brought home.  I think there has been  a few at Ft Campbell recently if I remember my buddy right when he said he was at Campbell last year when an Angel Flight came in.

 41. If China gets itself into a serious conflict it can affect us in a major way. Imagine if all imports from China were reduced by 50%. People in America would loose their minds until a replacement supplier stepped up. It would take a year or more for any type of US manufacturing to actually start producing from scratch. I have always said that if China stopped exporting to the US we would turn into a third world country over night because almost everything we buy, food and goods, comes from China now. Things we use day to day would disappear overnight. The question is who would survive a long term situation like that, us or China. And the really big question would be who would the US side with? If we side with everyone other than China then we risk having their imports cutoff or their refusal to lend us any more money. Or if we side with China, a communist country, and have the rest of the world condemn us.

 42.   mhl spoke a great truth here; along with greg's comment on the 1911 "platform"...   There are some of us "geezers" who remember when the double action revolver and the 1911 wuz king... Like mhl;  im a great fan of the double action smiths in any flavor (...N, K, or J...)... I grew up shootin them and they are my revolver favorites... The fact is that a double action revolver is utterly reliable and if a finished gun man who is handlin it can shoot double action; it's as deadly as a drug store til the first reload (...which ya usually dont need...)... The same is true of the 1911...   The fact is that i like all the legacy gun "platforms" because they all work and work very well...That's how they became so popular...  I've got a 25 year old who is deadly with a 4 inch 629... He wuz taught to shoot double action by his geezer dad (...who can't shoot nearly as good as he can...)... Never feel bad about being "outgunned" by carryin a good double action revolver... If ya know how to shoot; ya ain't... The newer stuff may tote more rounds in the magazine; but that's about all...   All that bein said; we've got a pile of "modern" glocks; and that's what we carry...   The smiths and the colts are locked away in the gun safe... Too valuable to carry...   The polymer stuff is like a hammer or a handsaw; it's simply a tool... The revolver and the 1911 is a work of art... Meant to be appreciated, praised, and shown to friends... The polymer stuff is meant to be shown to your adversaries...   leroy

 45. I like HK's... The first "coke bottle" (...polymer...) pistol i ever shot was a HK USP 45... I like 'em; i just think they are too expensive for a polymer construction firearm... They are extremely accurate and dependable, and they started my "pistola" oddesy toward the glock... I would love to find a "lovingly cared for and little used" HK USP at a sensible price...   leroy
