  1. So yesterday I found this little fella stuck in the median, he was trying to get off the road but was scared to move because of all the cars zipping by. As soon as I seen him I pulled over and he was able to get off the road. I called to him and he cautiously walked up to me then acted like we were old best friends. I was going to find him a home but as I proofread the advertisement I realized how much of a good boy he really is and by that time he has already weaseled his way into our hearts. I have spent most of my life with "bulldogs" and they tend to be harder to work with but this guy is absolutely amazing in how quickly he is learning. He is the complete opposite of every bulldog puppy I have ever had. Even for being only six months he is extremely well mannered. Spent all night in a crate without so much as a peep all night. Loves praise and is already trying to please us. He listens well for a puppy, all you have to do is tell him "no" once and he stops immediately. Then he comes and sits at our feet waiting for his praise. After 20+ years of bulldogs this dog seems like the Albert Einstein of the canine world. It is hard for us to believe he was not someone else's dog so we have put the word out hoping to find the owners. If we can't find his family then this little guy has hit the doggy lottery. We keep telling ourselves that we are just going to "foster" him until we find him a permanent home but in reality that has probably already happened even though we won't admit it yet. His name is probably going to be Sam.

  3. As a member of society, you can be part of the change you want to see within it. I've had a rifle rack in my truck for nearly 3 years now. Strange how those around me went from thinking it was odd to thinking it was normal over time. I've trained the scouts I work with that it OK to have a fire extinguisher, a rifle, and an extremely well stocked FAK in your car/truck as an adult. It's called "being prepared". I just moved the rifle rack to my new truck in fact over the weekend.

  4. No offense, but every time you post it becomes an increasingly more ridiculous arrangement that would make Rube Goldberg shake his head in disbelief. I am a fan of Occam's Razor. If you aren't familiar, it is a problem-solving principle that holds that the solution with the least number of components is the correct one. If you apply it to the completely absurd scenario you're painting for everyone, the most simplistic solution is to avoid it completely. Don't think that I am being inhospitable, but you're a complete newcomer and all seven of your posts to date are about a situation that anyone with common sense wouldn't partake in. I can't decide if we're being trolled, fished or if you're just one of those people who seems relatively intelligent but lacking in the aforementioned common sense. No matter what it is, I'm closing this thread. You should probably seek legal counsel before you do any of the crap you've described to us here. From an attorney, not a deputy or a police officer or the Internet.

  6. They are sissified by design. Demonize firearms and they will be the evil, not socialism. I'd like to see a resurgence in normalcy to include rifle racks in trucks and a society that doesn't have to worry about getting their rifles stolen.

  7. That's a good deal. The bottom has completely fallen out of the black-rifle market thanks to manufacturers betting on the wrong outcome of the 2016 Presidential election. They overstocked expecting a panic, and no one panicked when it wasn't Hillary that won. Thank God, but wow it's caused a weird ripple through the firearms industry! Of course that should make all of us contemplate just how badly we were taking a bath on AR-15 prices for the past 8 years.

  11. This bill will basically make 39-17-1359 no gun postings NOT apply at local and state government properties as long as you do not walk past through public entrances with armed guards and metal detectors. So you will be legal carrying at your local airport (of course not past TSA), city library, local and state government buildings, etc that in many cases are posted right now in Memphis and Nashville. Recreational facilities are of course still legal under the parks law and not changed by this bill. The bill does not legalize carrying at public schools or public colleges like HB 0363. This bill is not as good as HB 0363, but it is a big improvement over what we have now. The bill has been presented in both the house and state senate. It also has quite a few co sponsors, so I'm guessing this bill is the one that might have a change if it doesn't get killed with finance notes.

  18. Alright - we're less than two weeks out. For those of you who have trained your whole lives for something like this, this match will be awesome! You will finally have a place you can put all of your skills together in a match that plays to your strengths, and you'll feel like a thoroughbred finally set free to run. For those of you who have NEVER attempted anything like this, are intimidated by all of the crazy workouts posted on Facebook, and are having severe second thoughts lately - it will be even better. Whatever you do, JUST DON'T QUIT. The satisfaction and self-image you will get from just finishing this course will stay with you forever, and is something no one can ever take away from you. Many people have found matches like these to be a turning point in their lives, and in a year or two you may not even recognize the person you have become. Just remember - for every person you see pass you, there is someone behind you wishing they could keep up with you. And before ANYONE judges anyone else as being "too slow, too fat, or too lazy" - bite your tongue and listen to their story first. Across the country at matches like these we've had people recovering from recent strokes, heart attacks, cancer, pregnancy, amputations, and any other issue you can think of; just because "F#$K CANCER", that's why! Give them an encouraging word when you pass them - it really makes a difference. Even better - if you pass someone really struggling on the course: finish your race, set down your gear, and run back out to find that person. You can run beside them and offer them all the words of support and encouragement that you can think of - you just can't physically help them in any way. Let's do this.

  19. Been there, done that. Even got the t-shirt for it. Best advice that anyone gave me was to rent or buy an electric recliner. I listened, laughed about it but got one anyway. They didn't lie to me for sure. For the first several weeks you will probably find it's the most comfortable place you can sleep. Adjusting an electric one doesn't put any strain on your upper body and they can be stopped in any position.

  39. Back in 1966, during the height of the cold war, we were going through the Straits of Gibraltar and the lookouts picked up a periscope off our starboard side. Shortly thereafter, a Russian surface ship pulled up close and escorted us into Naples. Later that night we ran into part of their crew in the Cactus Bar (Don’t even ask, how I remember the name of the bar, that’s another story). We were on opposite sides of the room and having a good time, then someone suggested we buy them some drinks. Needless to say, they were surprised, and even more so when we motioned them over to our table. We pushed several table together until we had room for everyone (there must have been 10-12 of them and about the same number of us). I don’t know if they could understand us and I know we had no idea what they were saying but we were having a hell of a good time. I can remember one of them pointing at our Dolphins and making a motion of going under water. When we confirmed it, he shook his head and made a negative motion with his hand, then a circular motion around his ear like we were crazy. He got a round of applause for that . Later on, they seemed to be embarrassed about not being able to buy rounds of drinks but we assured them, it was no problem and footed the bill ourselves. All was going well until the Shore Patrol showed up. It seems that the fact that we were partying with the “enemy” got back to the boat and we were ordered to return to the boat immediately. The Shore Patrol got a little tiffed because before we left, we paid for another round of drinks for our new buddies. I don’t know what they went through, but we were grilled about what was discussed at the bar. The only thing we were able tell them was the Russians didn’t have as much money as us, could drink like a fish, and liked the ladies with a little meat on their bones.

  43. The Old Man and the Marine . . . . One sunny day in 2017, an old man approached the White House from across Pennsylvania Avenue, where he'd been sitting on a park bench. He spoke to the Marine standing guard and said, “I would like to go in and meet with President Hillary Clinton.” The Marine replied, “Sir, Mrs. Clinton is not President and doesn't reside here.” The old man said, “Okay,” and walked away. The following day, the same man approached the White House and said to the same Marine, “I would like to go in and meet with President Hillary Clinton”. The Marine again told the man, “Sir, as I said yesterday, Mrs. Clinton is not President and doesn't reside here.” The man thanked him and again walked away. The third day, the same man approached the White House and spoke to the very same Marine, saying “I would like to go in and meet with President Hillary Clinton.” The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and said, “Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to Mrs. Clinton. I've told you already several times that Mrs. Clinton is not the President and doesn't reside here. Don't you understand?” The old man answered, “Oh, I understand you fine. I just love hearing your answer!” The Marine snapped to attention, saluted and said, “Yes, Sir, see you again tomorrow."

  45. I am sure that someone will gut HB0508. They will probably do away with the requirement that each person who enters through the public entrance must be searched in order for firearms to be legally prohibited. Then, knowing how much our legislature loves their damned signs, someone will probably amend it so that there has to be an officer or security guard 'on duty' but if the officer or security guard is away from the door a sign alerting people entering the building that there is a guard 'on duty' will stand in substitution of the actual guard as long as there is at least one guard 'on duty' during open hours. Then local governments will assign a bailiff or even a patrol officer to be the official 'guard', that person will actually be present 'guarding' the door for maybe an hour or two each day and we, the citizens of the state of Tennessee who go through qualification, vetting, paying fees and other nonsense in order to get the state to say that we are safe and honest enough to carry a firearm will get screwed over, once more. I am so sick of our 'pro-gun' Republican majority legislature that I could vomit. I am thinking maybe we should elect a few more Democrats or maybe elect a Democrat governor next time because the Republicans seem to get more done for gun rights when they are trying to bullsh...er...convince us that they are on our side. When they actually gain control of the legislature they get complacent and show their true colors.

  46. The way I understand it a weapons charge would only apply somewhere like the statehouse or some of the Memphis city government buildings that run metal detectors at the entrances and you walk past those metal detectors. Right now you are subject to weapons charges in any posted location OR public school property. There aren't secure entrances to every building at Univ of Tennessee or Univ of Memphis, so if this bill became law you would be legal carrying in the unsecure buildings. Most public owned facilities are not going to go to the expense of putting armed guards and metal detectors at the entrance of every building that they own. I still think it is a lot better than what we have now where we are illegal on all college property and risk a felony charge for carrying outside our car. A more obvious college carry bill probably will not get through the legislature.
