Valid point. 15-20 years ago CTD was a pretty good company. It was the place to go for parts or accessories for many of the popular mil-surp guns available back then. Things like original slings, magazine, holsters, cleaning kits, etc and they actually were dirt cheap. They had a lot of good stuff. But somewhere back about the time the first panic hit they discovered price gouging and ain't been the same since. What really killed 'em for me was several years ago I was going to order three small items from them. It turned out that they would be coming from three separate warehouses and they wanted separate shipping for each item. The shipping was more than the cost of the items. Aside from the price gouging, they will also burn you bad on their outrageous shipping charges.

The good news is that this light IS the one that takes either two CR123s or the 18650 battery, and the 18650s are cheap to buy. At this price, I'd definitely still pick one up. Vacuum seal them. Any dry foodstuffs benefit from airtight storage. Even other things.

I was a frequent flyer with CTD in the early years, 90's, but I have not and will not spend a penny with them due to the gouging.

No reloads allowed = better chance you might be compelled to buy their overpriced ammo. The last time I shot “factory” reloads was at an indoor range bought from the same range under different ownership a couple of years earlier. One round literally did explode in my face. Total and complete head separation. Point is, are store bought reloads somehow more safer than hand-rolled?

I've caught bunches of mice with these. I'm not talking about huge quantities, just the 1lb bags from the grocery store. They don't take up lots of space and one bag of bean soup is 10-12 bowls.

Not necessarily, I have a small 2k, cheap one, that is surprisingly quite. I'm sure the more expensive units, like Honda's are as quite if not more so. You also can build a shelter for it with sound barriers to deaden them even more. The thing is, if there are folks roaming around like marauders then you have other issues, as I'm sure they're not just looking for generators. Be prepared to guard everything, from everyone, with extreme prejudice.

I would bet the “no reloads” is a safety concern, and probably an insurance issue. The few azzhats that blew up their gun and then posted it on the internet, blaming everyone but themselves, ruined it for the many that reload safely. You can’t let those kind of people around normal folks without strict supervision, or having medical personnel on standby. I would bet the insurance for some of these indoor ranges that are smack dab in the middle of commercial areas is pretty high.

That’s one of those threads that’s buried in the depths of TGO close to a decade back or more. It’s not a unique phenomenon at all either. Those of us that've been around here forever have borne witness to multiple folks who don’t know how to handle negative reviews on social media.

Oh I don’t doubt they are out there; I’ve just never been to one (indoor or outdoor). I wonder what the logic is behind the ban. Many indoor ranges sell reloads, so I would be tempted to call BS on the insurance thing.

Since this thread is mostly about prepping and I haven't seen a mention of it yet, I'll add this. Get a solar panel and a charge controller that will allow you to dial in the desired output. I use this to power my driveway gate. I saw one on Amazon that has USB charging ports built in. Next, get rechargeable batteries and a universal charger for AA and AAA. Eneloop are typically the best, but I have some Amazon Basics as well. I also have a charger for 18650 batteries. An inverter to run anything 110v electric you might need for short periods of time. Download every survival book you can find. Lots are free online. Download local GPS and terrain maps so you can access them offline. Candles. Matches. Water purifier (unscented Chlorox). Emergency supply of essential medications. Emergency supply of COVID treatment supplements for entire family: vitamins D3 and C, zinc, melatonin, Pepcid. FWIW, I think a generator is a bad idea unless you have a fortified compound. If the SHTF, then the sound and lights will attract people who assume, correctly, that you have more than they do and some of those people won't hesitate to use violence to take it from you.

I got one of the cheap ones, used it a couple years, and they worked ok. Then found instructions to build a better one, with shutoff valve. But, I've tried to purchase adapters for propane appliances to run off 20lb cylinders, much more convenient. My heater gets the most use,

Sounds like you are well stocked. You are probably already aware of it, but in case you are not you might look into an adapter that allows you to refill your 2lb propane tanks from your 40lb. I have about 10 of the 2lb bottles, and refill them whenever I get about 5 empty. There are a plethora of YouTube videos that show how to accomplish this safely. I think I bought the adapter off amazon for $16.

Price gouging sucks and it isn't my style but it does work as a way of ensuring that the product exists in the market for those that are in desperate need for it. Competition ensures that when you gouge you can't move as much product. That said I still hate the F##k out of cheaper than dirt for having pissy customer service and being a generaly slimy company.

I appreciate all the comments. What a real pain it's been. Myself and a buddy spent 3 hours trying most, if not all, the suggestions here...to no avail. He eventually had to drill through both screws. Didnt damage the gun (the holes weren't needed for the new handguard anyways) Factory CZ blue loctite had those damn things really on there. I'm happy with the finished product!

While I do 99% of all our shopping needs, and anything else that comes up; like you buddy, I have tried to add items to the larder when I get a chance. My wife has always thought me a bit off, may be right in that; because I've always been one who buys more than necessary when shopping. My family was always the sort to have food canned or dried and stored. They went thru the Depression years and were influenced by it greatly. But back on point, I have a few cases of foods put back, and lots of canned meats, peanut butter(family staple...lol), and whatever else we use. Not near as much as I'd like, but trying.

At least with our ranges here, those reloads are made by a company that holds a FFL for manufacturing ammunition, which would lead one to believe that they also have an insurance policy to cover liability. That is a much different animal than some random fellas home grown loads that he made with a "special recipe" to make them big fireballs!

A guy I work with went back and forth for over a year to the dealer with low oil level in his truck. He'd find the oil way low and top it off, then have several weird problems. He'd take it to the dealer, they couldn't figure it out. He'd get the oil changed, find it low, complain to the dealer, on and on... It took all of them more than a year to discover the bottom inch of the dipstick had broken off. So he'd been way over filling it causing several other problems and hundreds in service bills.
