I assume it's for the same reason people put whale tails on a Dodge Neon or those tin can mufflers on their Nissan Sentra or crank their radio up until their tail light covers are rattling. They want some attention.3 points

Anyone else have to deal with these clowns? When we moved into our neighborhood we were told we have a home owners association with a monthly fee, fair enough especially with what they were supposed to offer. My wife and I were told that they take care of the outside of the buildings. The siding, roof, landscaping, the pool, clubhouse and playground. Well since moving here 3 years ago the fee has went from $95 to $110 thanks to the jokers in GA taking over the contract. The yards are anything but maintained. Up until this past Monday the grass out front was about 6+ inches long. The shrubbery out front hasn't seen any kind of clippers last summer...when I was home to take care of them. The mulch in the landscaping hasn't been changed/redone in about 2 years. We've had about 4 different lawn care companies in the last 3 years and each one seems to do less and less and a more horrible job than the last. We were told that the shrubbery was on us to maintain as well as the mulch. The finish they have on the front door is faded, the front of the house faces east. We asked what needs to happen to get it refinished, we were told that it was on us, but it needs to look like the rest of the neighborhood, but still no answer on how to make the metal door with wood texture look like wood. The deck has been on the second floor of the house since 2007 and it hasn't been treated at all. When asked who we need to contact for repairs we were told it was on us to do it since it was on the second floor. Fine by me, but I can't replace the deck with engineered wood because it would look different than the rest. Another thing, some of the planks of the deck are also part of the deck in the adjacent town homes with a privacy fence separating the 2. We were told that we had to coordinate with our neighbors if those boards needed to be repaired. After a year and a half of having the Dish satellite, we get a notice today that since it is attached to the deck railing, like so many others in the neighborhood, it needs to be removed because the railing is there for protection from falling and to add property value. So we are being told to have it moved...nothing saying where it needs to be moved to though. With all the stuff that is not being repaired or maintained that is supposed to be taken care of, I'm tempted to send them a bill for the cost of a pressure washer rental, the sealer, my hedge trimmer, the mulch, whatever it is going to take to refinish the door and the cost to move the dish instead of a check for the HOA fees. I remember Dad doing that when we rented an apartment as a kid, he would send the receipt for repairs to the owner with the difference for the rent, it always worked. Anyhow enough ramblings, I'm just tired of dealing with this overpriced BS here and wondered if anyone is getting raped by these HOA clowns.1 point

Speaking of motorcycles, there's a cop who lives down the street from me who is a butt hair's width away from me taking some video and sending it to his police department with a request to have a little chat with him about the applicability of speeding and reckless driving charges to off-duty police officers. He LOVES to sit in his driveway and rev his engine with very loud pipes. Then he cranks the radio wide open on it (I suppose so he can hear it over the engine) and hauls the mail up our residential street. I know when he is coming home because I can hear him before I can see him and he's flying low back through the residential neighborhood. He reminds me of a cop I worked with in Florida who thought it would be amusing to do burnouts on a main drag in our city. I guess he didn't expect the Chief of Police to be on a late evening drive. After he took an unpaid vacation and almost lost his job, he mellowed out a bit.1 point

Over the years I have lived next to two people who were weekend/sunny day motorcycle riders. Both seem to think that their motorcycles have to run for 15-30 + minutes before taking off for a ride. The bikes just sit there and idle with an occasional revving of the motor. Then there is more motor revving before they take off. In both cases it is beyond a "warm-up" of the engine. Maybe their constantly revving of the engines makes up for a lack of manhood or other insecurities.1 point

I "drive" motorcycles and I don't rev my engine at stoplights. My best guess is that the person on the throttle is a douche bag.1 point

There is nothing wrong with the SYG law, as some in the media are claiming. Zimmerman may have chosen to abuse or even ignore it, but that isn't an indictment of the law itself.1 point

I was in Kroger yesterday and counted three young black males wearing hoodies. I guess its possible that is the norm, but I never paid it much attention. With this story fresh in my mind I took note. I bet if I followed them all around the store that would have agitated them. Maybe if I continued and followed them home in my car that would have really put their radar up about me and perhaps have mentally prepared them to deal with me as a threat. Then maybe I get out of my car and close the distance with them. I would imagine that would provoke most reasonable people into conflict. I guess if I thought the were suspicious I should just call the police and keep my distance, just in case they just happen to enjoy wearing hoodies as he style. BTW, I was able to do my shopping without shooting any of these young, hooded black males, but if I did I would expect you guys to blame their parents for not dressing more appropriately.1 point

Wow that thing is huge for a ankle. I couldn't believe you pulled off a Glock 30 on the ankle. I think Galco makes one for a compact XD which is the same size except for the grip.1 point

I don't care what the kid did yesterday or what he may do tomorrow. That day he had just returned from the store and had a bag of Skittles and an ice tea in his hand. Some scary guy in a car was following him around and is now out confronting him with a weapon. All the while this kid is confused, scared and in the dark. This guy is standing close to him with weapon drawn and the 17 year old starts screaming!!!!!! HELP!!!!!HELP!!!!! The "watch commander" has now introduced deadly force to a kid who was armed with a bag of deadly Skittles..........Had he thrown those Skittles he may well have put out someones eye but alas they were still in his hand when his heart stopped beating and bled to death on a neighbors lawn.......Now a young man is dead.....we know not what he was or will be, because he is DEAD. My son, as many of your sons and daughters have made mistakes in their early lives. My son was caught with marijuana in high school and shoplifting later that year. The road he was headed down was one of concern. Can anyone call my son a punk and deserved to be shot.....He is now in the Air Force and a Metrologist, and is going to school to obtain an electrical engineering degree. I say all this to keep in mind, that we don't know what this would have been, or could have been......because he is now DEAD......For every one on this board who make claim you are pro life, how about supporting this kids right not be shot and killed..not only was he a fertilized egg...he was a viable person who is now DEAD.........1 point

Back in the 80's, the DOJ did a 10 year study that found that 83% of Americans will be the victim of a violent crime at some point in their life. That's probably gone down some, but I don't know if the study has been updated. When your time comes, and there's a good chance that it will, will you be prepared to defend yourself? If you have your permit, will you have your gun? Or will it be sitting in your drawer because you thought you were going somewhere safe? It drives me crazy when my wife asks me why I carry to certain "safe" places. I tell her I'm not good enough of a gambler to guess the moment in my life when I will need to defend myself or my family, so the best bet is to carry my gun as often as possible. Point is, get your permit and carry your gun.1 point

Thank you very much for the police report. That is exactly what is needed in this case, facts. I'm waiting for the investigators report, as referenced in the initial police report. And then the Grand Jury's determination. And then, if warranted, a trial, with sworn testimony. And then a jury decision. That's how things are done. There is a process for these matters, and the process ought to be followed, without the media lynch mob baying on television and in the newspapers. All the usual suspects are working hard to politicize this, and drag in crap that has nothing to do with the confrontation between these two individuals. Once upon a time, I was confident that "justice would prevail." Under the current administration, with an admittedly biased "Attorney General" Eric Holder, I am much less confident that justice will prevail.1 point

+1 If they go bang the first time you pull the trigger they are gonig to go bang for the rest of your life. We had locals that had AK's from the 50's with 10's of thousand,s if not more, rounds down the tube. And they have been cleaning them the same way for decades. A knotted shoe string with oil on it was pulled down the bore. The bolt and gas pistol pushed around in snad and dirt to get the carbon off. Then a wipe down with a oil rag. That is the amount of maintanence they did. A lot of them looked chrome because they had no finish left on them. And guess what, the majority of those guns could hit man sized targets at 350 yards the majority of the time. No need to have a high end AK. A Saiga is made in a factory that has been building AK's forever. There is a reason why most custom builders use them. And now I have convinced myself I need one. Dolomite1 point

I sent the property manager an email a bit ago addressing my issues with what's been going on around here. The property is supposed to be maintenance free, that's why my wife picked out this place. I'm only usually home about 4 months total a year, so having something easy to take care of it nice with her in school full time and a 3 year old. I know I was going to end up screwing myself on certain things by getting into an area with a HOA, but they seem to be everywhere anymore. My next house will be in the middle of nowhere, outside any city limits, no HOA and my wife can come live there if she wants.1 point

Point was not to correct your English, but to re-emphasize the fact anytime you modify a gun it will take some fine tuning to get back your reliability. I wasn't trying to put you down. The Meaningless Detail Minded Freak1 point

They'd have to prove you intended to carry with a round in the chamber. Thankfully it's an intent law... In my case when I carry a loaded AR in the car, the bolt is back and the dust cover is up, so it would be very easy to explain how an officer unfamiliar with my firearm ended up finding a round in the chamber.1 point

I gave a brief interview this afternoon on the Memphis Fox station about this case, it'll be on tonight at 10. We talked about deadly force laws and what might happen in this situation under Tennessee law. I think dude will get indicted. Like someone said, he accosted the kid, kid fought back, dude shot him. That's just not self defense. You can't seek the threat out then claim you were in fear for your life.1 point

This. TV studios test their graphic setups and feeds with dummy data, it doesn't really mean anything. Now honestly, if it were me I would have used fake names with the fake data just in case of something stupid like this. But yeah, classic case of "Nothing to see here, move along."1 point

I heard the same tape, and it does look like murder. I'm just gonna leave my rope in the closet, and let the court sort it out.1 point

Some 17 year old kids walking home from the store are no threat at all...some are murderers (or at least are willing to be). I've looked "deep into myself" and I'm fine with "me". The only thing I'm "predisposed" to do is not snap to ANY judgment about anybody's guilt or innocence. You weren't there...I wasn't there...the 911 operator wasn't there but I'm fairly certain that if the DA feels he has enough evidence to get a conviction he'll proceed with charges; if he doesn't then I suppose I'm predisposed to think that the shooting was justified.1 point
-
I think due to the attention given so far to this case is why there hasn't been an arrest and the DA is making sure all ducks are in a row before committing. Anyone wanting insight into this should read the full transcript of the 911 call from Zimmerman. It is clear that he is the aggressor and was warned not to intervene. Meanwhile, this young man has had a suspicious individual following him for several blocks. What would any of us do in that scenario? I know what I would do if some weirdo followed me as I'm just walking home and then confronted me. I would be very aggressive back and be prepared to defend myself. The young man probably did defend himself; too bad he wasn't better armed says me. For those of you more prepared to believe that a young man walking home from the store is a bigger threat than an armed adult who shoots a 17 year old within view of his own friggin house need to look deep on why you are so predisposed to do so.1 point

You could just as easily be talking about our .gov during WWII. Just ask descendent of Japanese immigrants whose family had their homes, property and businesses confiscated and then they were put in internment camps. (But that was The Greatest Generation, so it's okay.)1 point

I'd disclose right up front, let the officer see your driver's license and your HCP. Don't you want the officer to put you in the "good guy/not a threat to my life" column? If you've noticed, in Tennessee your driver's license and your HCP have the same number. When the officer calls in your driver's license number to dispatch, it's going to pop up that you also have an HCP. Your HCP is not linked to your vehicle's license plate number, so officers don't know about the HCP at the stop, just after they run your driver's license. If you didn't disclose your HCP right up front when he comes to the car window for his little chat, the officer's gonna know anyways after he runs your driver's license, and then he'll be forced to wonder why you didn't mention your HCP any earlier. That alone is enough to get his prickle up and make his eyes squint while looking at you. Just what you need when an officer's at the side of the road trying to decide if you'll learn anything from a warning versus a ticket. What are you thinking? A lot of cops get shot on traffic stops, so it's nothing personal just business when and if they temporarily disarm you. The officers all want to go home without additional holes in their bodies. For gosh sakes, if you're one of the good guys, act like one. An officer gets to see enough dirt-bags and bastards on a given day, why be another one? Set the officer's mind at ease and let him know right up front about your HCP and if you've got a pistol on your belt. If he's gotta pry the information out of you, it's just going to make him suspicious of your motives, especially if you're spouting attitude.1 point
