The AR is americas rifle because one, it's basically the same as what our troops use. Second and possibly more important, it is so versatile. It's like a box of Legos. Little switcharoo and you go from an SBR'd 10.5 inch barrel close quarters battle rifle, to a 24 inch bull barrel varmint rifle. In less than 60 seconds. Arguably it is the most ergonomic and comfortable rifle you'll ever shoot. When a quality rifle (AR) is coupled with premium or handloaded to suit, ammunition, it is blisteringly accurate. You can snatch that wimpy 223(5,56 NATO) upper off there and slap on a 300 blackout or 458 SOCOM and hunt anything that walks in TN. You can buy an upper that fires .50BMG and shoot 1,000 yards. You can set it up for .22lr and have a great afternoon with the kids for cheap. Then at the end of the day you can put it back the way started with, set it next to the bed, loaded with frangible ammo and when things go bump in the night, you can call the cops to come help you clean up the mess the guy who was intent on robbing and raping your family made when you sent him off to the next life. It took me a while to come around as I was a forged in fire Kalashnikov man. I ain't going back. The AR is loved by Americans, feared by ameriKans. Of course, we don't expect any less from leftist commie hippie trash.5 points

With that kind of thinking one day you'll look around and wonder what happened to your guns. I mean this in the most respectful way possible, stop reacting like a sheep and start thinking like a lion. The fight we are about to find ourselves in is not about us and our rights, it's about our children/grandchildren and their rights.5 points

The NRA should not waiver a single inch. Everyone here knows that if you give the anti-gun Lib's an inch they will try to take a mile. If anything, the NRA should make an effort to expand gun rights and gun ownership after this. Criminals like unarmed victims. That sick bastard killed 20 little kids. If those teachers had been armed he would be dead and those kids would be enjoying Christmas with their families.4 points

Might I suggest we drop the term "assault weapon" and go with the more accurate term "Modern Sporting Rifle".3 points

Who wants a 30 round clip? Do you know how hard that'd be to force into the magazine? You'd probably cut your thumb in half. Ive never seen a charger guide sturdy enough to stabilize that much flopping around. Ten rounds are fine, the SKS works great. Five rounds work even better on a mauser. Personally I prefer magazines.3 points

After CTD pull their price gouging stunt during the '08 election, I can't believe anyone has spent a single red cent with them since. They probably figure that gun owners quickly forgot the first time, they will forget the second time just the same.3 points

The world is full of irrational, emotional, foolish people who love bandwagons because it's easier than thinking for themselves. Add to this the problematic fact that schools teach a version of history that actually amounts to little more than indoctrination of our children, and have been doing so for the past 40-50 years, and you end up with two or three current generations of Useful Idiots who know no better than to toe the party line. In short, we're fucked.3 points

NRA sure has its shortcomings, but overall, the sheer amount of money they are able to throw at the gun rights issue has to help some. Do they always get it right? Of course not. Mistakes are made. Overall, I think they are a worthwhile organization. Thats not to say that there are not other viable ones as well. I am a life member. I want to join the TFA soon so as to get more local (TN) help.3 points

Does it matter? Dick's is a joke of a store anyways. Overpriced and hardly has anything in stock. Bought a bike (on sale) for the wife there years ago and found it cheaper a week later somewhere else. Plus the bike "expert" working that department didn't have a clue. Haven't been back since. Not sure how they stay in business. Their parking lot always seems empty.3 points

I have grown to be pretty close friends to a buddy of mine who has mobility issues. As I have gotten to know him over the past few months, he has mentioned how much he would like to have the ability to be outdoors and to hunt. I have been blessed access to prime hunting property and saw this as a great opportunity to help fulfill some wishes of his. I do not see him as a charity project, I am just a friend helping a friend as I get a lot out of our friendship too. Well 2 weekends ago, when it was nice and rainy. We set out to do an afternoon hunt out at the land. There were a lot of logistical challenges in getting set up because once he is in a chair, he cant get out without a great deal of effort from the both of us. But we managed to get him set up over a 30 acre harvested soybean field where deer come out fairly regularly. The rains came down and the floods came up! I set us up in a low spot and by the time we finished the hunt, we were in about 3 inches of water! Lesson learned! Anyways, once we were all set in the hunting blind. We saw a massive flock of turkeys come out to feed. We counted 24. Then a few minutes later, another flock of turkeys came out to make the total of 41 turkeys that we were watching! Both of us enjoy being outdoors wether we see anything or not, but seeing things is always so much more fun! Our hunt was off to a great start! After about 3 hours, I hear him say, "I see a deer!! Its a buck!" Sure enough, there was a 2.5yr old 8 point out about 80 yards from us. He asked if he was a shooter and I said heck yeah he is! The nerves were pumping. Heart was racing. Lungs were hyperventilating. And those were just mine!!! I wasn't even the one shooting! haha I helped him get the gun up and rested correctly on the Bog Pod and after he had the crosshairs set he asked me if I was ready for him to shoot. My buddy dropped that deer in his tracks! I really thought that guy was going to jump out of his chair, he was so excited! I threw the blind off of us as we hugged, shook hands and laughed ourselves silly. What a great experience for the both of us! I ran and drug the deer back to him for a few photos and afterwords, he said something that really touched my heart. He said that he didnt know he could get excited like that anymore. I really didn't have a response at the time other than to say I am glad he had a good time. But we will get more opportunities to hunt and I expect him to get excited again with his first turkey this coming season! I hope to build some better blinds with good ramps on them in the future for him and I hope to one day be able to help provide opportunities to those with illnesses and physical challenges.2 points

Previously posted on Tea Party Nation. What you have heard from many politicians and news commentators IS correct. It IS time to have a reasonable discussion about Gun Control. Let's start with the absolute FACT that gun-free zones and gun control have been dismal failures at preventing crime and mass killings. The highly-publicized shootings at the theater in Aurora, Colorado and now at an elementary school in Connecticut should have proven those facts beyond any doubt. So lets look at what our leaders have come up with as a way to stop or reduce such incidents. More gun control. Oh, sure, since the gun-free zones and existing gun control have done such a good job, let's have more of it. We have just seen 22 6 year-old children sacrificed on the altar of THAT absurd idea. In one of the most gun free zones in the world, a man with a knife stabbed and slashed 22 children at a school in China on the same day that 22 children in the US were being shot to death (1). And NBC News reported that this was not the only such incident in China (2). A string of such incidents in early 2010 resulted in over 20 deaths and more than 50 wounded. the largest mass murder in the US, was done by a farmer who killed 44 people and injured another 58 when he blew up a school in Bath, MI. No amount of gun control could have stopped any of those. The BBC recently reported that handgun murders INCREASED in the two years after the UK confiscated nearly all of the legally-owned handguns in the country (3). And other countries with very strict gun control have seen mass murders as well. In Norway last summer, Anders Breivik killed 77 people before being stopped by a heavily-armed SWAT team (4). In 2009, a 17 year-old in Germany killed 15 and wounded 11 (5). So, having shown that Gun Control does NOT work, what is there with a proven record of stopping such violence? Someone with a gun. Is it preferable to have a murderer free to continue methodically killing until the police arrive, or to have somebody on the scene with at least a chance to stop him? Ideally, you would want a fully-armed Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, Marine Recon, or other elite warrior, on hand and ready to place their lives between a killer and innocent children. Sadly, mass murderers very rarely attack innocent people when there are armed warriors around. In fact, you could say that they intentionally plan their attacks for places where such armed warriors are NOT present. However, there are a very large number of armed people who have often shown that they have not only the ability, but the willingness to place themselves between killers and their victims. In the US, there are at least 9.6 million potential civilian concealed handgun carriers. There are several states that do not require permits to carry a concealed weapon, so there is no telling how many of them may be armed. But with almost 10 million folks that may be armed, there is a good chance that someone you see today is carrying a weapon. Just last week, there was a shooting at a mall in Oregon. After killing two people, the shooter, with several working firearms and lots of ammunition left, suddenly decided to kill himself. He was suddenly confronted by an armed citizen with a handgun, who was carrying that weapon in spite of signs that posted the mall as a Gun-Free zone (6). There is no way to know how many lives were saved by that decision. And that was not the only time in recent history that a mass-murderer was stopped by an armed citizen (7). 2012 - church, Aurora, CO 2012 - store, Santa Clara, CA 2012 - RV Park, Early, TX 2010 - store, New York Mills, NY 2009 - store, Richmond, VA 2009 - birthday party, College Park, GA 2007 - New Life Church, Colorado Springs, CO 2007 - bar, Winnemuca, NV 2002 - Appalachian School of Law, Grundy, VA 1998 - school dance, Edinboro, PA 1997 - Pearl High School, Pearl, Mississippi 1995 - store, Muskegon, MI 1991 - Shoney's, Anniston, AL Sadly, mass murderers who are stopped do not get very much attention from the news. In fact, murders and other crimes that are stopped by armed civilians do not get reported very often. Sometimes, the story is reported, but the fact that an armed person stopped the crime is not mentioned. For the past fifty years, we have been told that guns are bad. And that civilians with guns will cause murder rates to rise, 'Wild-West' shootouts, and 'blood in the streets'. Firearm ownership has increased during that time, as have the numbers of concealed carry permit holders. And what has happened? Murder rates have DECLINED. And violent crime has declined most in places that have made civilian concealed carry possible (8, 9). Whether there is an actual correlation between those two statistics is in debate. But the FACT is that the 'Wild-West', and 'blood-in-the-streets' nightmares have NOT happened. And the most significant fact is that while firearm ownership has gone UP, violence has not. So obviously, having guns around does NOT cause violence. Those who propose to confiscate all firearms and/or ammunition from civilians are just ignorant. Making either firearms and/or ammunition is not rocket science. This is a technology that is hundreds of years old and widely known. Anyone with simple skills and a minumum of tools can accomplish it. People with primive tools and materials make machine guns and ammunition under the harshest conditions (10). Does anyone believe that a nation of craftsman-hobbyists cannot accomplish it as well? The conclusion is that our national policy of not allowing legally-armed citizens to carry in schools and other 'gun-free zones' has been a disaster. It has allowed an untold number of needless murders, and made our children into defenseless targets for anyone seeking to end their life with national headlines. It is time to reverse this idiocy and allow those who are willing and able to defend the innocent. It is time to eliminate 'gun-free zones' and other restrictive laws, and restore the right of the citizens to protect their lives, loved ones, and property. 1) http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/12/14/15901085-villager-slashes-22-kids-with-knife-at-elementary-school-gates-in-china?lite 2) http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/12/14/15901085-villager-slashes-22-kids-with-knife-at-elementary-school-gates-in-china?lite 3) http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/1440764.stm 4) http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/13/world/europe/norway-massacre-report/index.html 5) http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/mar/11/germany-school-shooting-winnenden-albertville 6) http://www.mrctv.org/videos/media-blackout-oregon-mall-shooting-stopped-licensed-gun-carrier 7) http://gunwatch.blogspot.com/2012/12/mass-killings-stopped-by-armed-citizens.html 8) http://www.wral.com/news/state/nccapitol/story/11204311/ 9) http://www.handgunsmag.com/2012/06/20/2011-fbi-violent-crime-stats-gun-ownership-upcrime-rates-drop/ 10) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JajLlxEiXxg2 points

Wanna get 2/3rds of the nation screaming, start passing more strict legislation on a very popular product that can be "argued" has caused or aided in 100,000's+ deaths in many ways, probably over 1 million in the last century. Much more so than than the anti's can argue about firearms or really any other legal product. ALCOHOL. Costas argued that if the football player who killed his girlfriend hadn't had a "gun", they would still be alive thinking a big male football player couldn't kill a petite girl without one when a much more logical argument might be that if the football player hadn't been raging drunk on alcohol he would have had more control of his emotions and may not have killed his girlfriend. How many domestic violence incidents start because of someone being under the influence of alcohol? Also, let's not forget our favorite restaurant owner gun hater Ray Whatshisname. How many drunks did he allow to leave his bar restaurant, get in their car and drive home endangering kids with their familys on the same highway? IMO, that's a whole hell of alot more dangerous than allowing a law abiding citizen to carry their handgun into his restaurant. Anyway, I'm not advocating a background check at every Mapco or liqor store before you can buy an alcoholic product to see if you have been arrested in the past for DUI or domestic violence, or a one bottle per month limit or a size limit on the bottle, i'm just saying there is legal products that can be "argued" is much more of a problem in causing tragic deaths of innocents than firearms. Just tell a liberal you want to take away his booze because someone else might abuse it and go on a pi$$ed at the world raging drunk and might stab or beat someone to death, or run a school bus off the road killing children. I mean, they don't "NEED" alochol do they? I wonder if they will argue back that just because someone does a bad thing under the influence of alcohol, they shouldn't be demonized or punished for it. P.S. Sorry for the long rant.2 points

Y'all should remember this when things are back to "normal". They've got a history of this, and it is inexcusable. They should be recognized as such.2 points

"Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one." That's from a book written in 1841 called Memoirs of Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds, which chronicles various investment manias from the 16th to early 19th centuries. Gun owners would do well to remember these words, but I doubt they will, because nobody else does. A lot of gun owners right now are like the guy who buys milk and bread 24 hours before the storm hits. Cheaper than dirt is selling Pmags for $60. This is hilarious.2 points

Did someone say we should compromise? http://thelawdogfiles.blogspot.com/2010/09/ok-ill-play.html Since what you consider to be reasonable isn't even in the same plane of reality with what I consider reasonable, probably not. Allow me to explain. I hear a lot about "compromise" from your camp ... except, it's not compromise. Let's say I have this cake. It is a very nice cake, with "GUN RIGHTS" written across the top in lovely floral icing. Along you come and say, "Give me that cake." I say, "No, it's my cake." You say, "Let's compromise. Give me half." I respond by asking what I get out of this compromise, and you reply that I get to keep half of my cake. Okay, we compromise. Let us call this compromise The National Firearms Act of 1934. There I am with my half of the cake, and you walk back up and say, "Give me that cake." I say, "No, it's my cake." You say, "Let's compromise." What do I get out of this compromise? Why, I get to keep half of what's left of the cake I already own. So, we have your compromise -- let us call this one the Gun Control Act of 1968 -- and I'm left holding what is now just a quarter of my cake. And I'm sitting in the corner with my quarter piece of cake, and here you come again. You want my cake. Again. This time you take several bites -- we'll call this compromise the Clinton Executive Orders -- and I'm left with about a tenth of what has always been MY DAMN CAKE and you've got nine-tenths of it. Then we compromised with the Lautenberg Act (nibble, nibble), the HUD/Smith and Wesson agreement (nibble, nibble), the Brady Law (NOM NOM NOM), the School Safety and Law Enforcement Improvement Act (sweet tap-dancing Freyja, my finger!) I'm left holding crumbs of what was once a large and satisfying cake, and you're standing there with most of MY CAKE, making anime eyes and whining about being "reasonable", and wondering "why we won't compromise". I'm done with being reasonable, and I'm done with compromise. Nothing about gun control in this country has ever been "reasonable" nor a genuine "compromise". LawDog2 points

Gee...another thread complaining about the NRA...color me shocked, I'm a life member, and proud of it. I contribute to their legislative action as well since membership fees don't go to support legislative actions. No one here or probably anywhere have ever said the NRA is perfect and unless Jesus takes over and gets rid of all the people it never will be perfect. If people care about their second amendment rights then they need to join every pro-2A organization they can find including the NRA, the GOA, the USCCA, their state organization (TFA here) and more...stop complaining on the interned and get involved. Complaining about what the NRA or other organizations are or aren't doing when you aren't a member is pretty much the same as complaining about the results of elections when you were eligible to vote but couldn't bother yourself to get to the polls. As to the "A" rating; I guess some, like the author of this article, don't understand that a current rating is based on PAST actions; current and future actions will be rated accordingly as happened to Maggart.2 points

ummm I think NRA is showing decorum in remaining silent on the subject for a few days. The agenda has not changed, and will smooth out in a week or so, just like the last few events. That will be the time to have collected, collated, and organized their presentation of facts and path forward....*after* some time for mourning, and *after* the libtards have blown their wad They have nothing to gain by speaking too soon, and there are plenty of folks getting good messages out in triage. I would expect them to them to be more vocal after the dead are buried, in order to keep the focus in the right places..2 points

Joined the NRA yesterday. That's my "statement" on the recent discussions by liberal, Northeast and CA lawmakers to control gun rights. In my opinion, some of the NRA "A" List Democrats may be posturing since any gun control changes would need to get through the Republican controlled House of Representatives (which won't happen). I personally don't see that any changes will occur other than possibly tightening background checks and eliminating the "gun show" sales loophole.2 points

I'm an NRA man myself. No gun organization out there is going to stop what is fixing to get handed to us. Of all the evils knocking at our doors, the least would be a 3 round clip limit on any and every gun we own. Better than lossing my guns I guess! Dave S2 points

"So we are our first responders. If something happened here, we would have to protect our children. You know, police officers are true, everyday heroes in my book, but one of them once told me something very revealing. He said, ‘Ninety-five percent of the time, we get to the scene late.’ I can’t afford to let that happen.†"Thweatt said there have been no incidents since October 2007, when his district adopted the plan giving an unspecified number of teachers and school staff -- dubbed "Guardians" -- authority to carry concealed weapons on school premises. Participating staff are anonymous and known only to Thweatt and the school board, which must approve each application for an employee to become a Guardian. They receive a small stipend annually."1 point

I, like many of you here don't agree with any compromise what-so-ever when it comes down to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights! However, in the real world it's never all or nothing. When you talk our form of law, politics, compromise, emotion, knee jerk reaction, the left and the right come into play. There's never any absolutes in our Constitutional Republic anymore. I also believe GOA is a much better organization to protect our 2nd Amendment rights, however... The NRA is mammoth in members and funds compared to GOA. The NRA is a for profit money making business and squanders millions in donated funds that don't benefit our rights. An organization that has tens of millions of dollars spent on a museum and envious gun collection it's members may not share in to name a couple. All in all, in the end it behoves us all to be NRA members, as they have influence in numbers / campaign dollars and press with many politicians. Although not perfect as stated numerous times above, we have all benefited from their actions and work. Just my take folks?1 point

Yeah I know I have too much time on my hands. Respond quickly before they come to carry me away. I was undecided which subforum to place this in, so I thought I would just put it in General Chat instead of 2nd Amendment since it touches on government conspiracy quite a bit. I'm going to go out on a limb here. I'm sure that I will be ridiculed by many and thought to be crazy by several as well. I'm not saying that what I'm about to say is 100% the truth, all I'm saying is stop and think about it and tell me why it could not be the truth. Since and including the Columbine shootings which occurred on April 20, 1999 there have been 29 mass shootings in the United States in which 5 or more people not including the shooter were killed. In most of these shootings many more than 5 innocent people lost their lives. After the most recent shooting many people are speculating that President Barack Obama will takes drastic measures towards gun control by exercising his executive powers. Here is the part where you will think that I've gone off of my rocker... Perhaps the United States government has perpetrated these killings. Throughout the last several years the United States Government has tried to get more power over its people. In my opinion it is their ultimate goal to have total control over us and our possessions. However that pesky 2nd Amendment keeps getting in their way. The first thing that dictators such as Stalin, Hitler, Qaddafi, Castro, Mao Tse-tung, Kim Jong-il, and Pol Pot did was disarm their subjects so that they could not fight back. As the saying goes "The man who hammers his gun into a plow will use that plow for the man that didn't" we will be slaves to our government if we give up our guns. At this point the government has the attention of the antis and the fence sitters. No one but the true patriots will defend their rights if an executive order is signed. There is nothing that the NRA can do to prevent an executive order from being signed. I believe that it is possible that the powers that be have decided that a fair fight against gun owners and the NRA is too difficult so they have decided to fight dirty. Is it possible that the government staged these killings so that the president would have a chance to strip we the people of our second amendment rights without due process? Could it be possible that the powers that be are taking our arms from us to be compliant with Agenda 21? There are many instances throughout history of governments taking control over citizens after they have stripped them of their arms. Why let history repeat it self? Will I get arrested for writing this? I think the 1st amendment is still in effect, though it will not be for long if we loose the 2nd. Will a team of government assassins kill me in my sleep tonight for possibly predicting what the government was possible trying to do anyway? Stranger things have happened. But, I really don't care. This is just an attempt by me, to try to get you to think, I'm not asking anyone to agree with me, all I'm asking is for you to ask if what I have presented here could possibly happen? I'm wearing my tin foil hat a little tighter tonight.1 point

Not everything should be eligible for compromise but most should be and "never" is probably a word that is inappropriate to use when talking about compromising. It's generally better to compromise than to die...not always; but usually. Put another way, ask the question "is THIS the hill you want to die on?"...if it is then dig in, make your peace with God and go for it. If it isn't THAT hill then negotiate.1 point

Really? Why do people think this is a good weapon for this scenario? It's pretty, sure, but it's a boat anchor that barks waaaaay too loud for what he uses it for. Any python fans out there, ask yourself one thing, Would you REALLY want to touch that thing off inside? Goodbye hearing. Not to mention reloads suck. Unless you're Jerry Miculek you're toast. I'd rather have a solid 22 like a Ruger than the python. My personal choice would be a Glock 19 with a lone wolf barrel and a heavy, subsonic cast bullet. Low recoil, low noise. Which by the way, I have two of. Penetration of a slow moving heavy cast bullet is amazing and more than enough turn a brain stem into catfish chum. Much cheaper to produce and takes up less space. If you ask me, Carl is the sharpest tool in the shed, gun wise. A suppressed browning hi power. While I question the longevity of a suppressor made form a softball bat, it would certainly work. With a low volume of fire and vigilant maintenance it would work quite well.1 point

Gentleman, this is old news from the 19th century. Do you not remember your factual history taught in high school about serpents? Do you NOT remember the historical demise of our hero, "The Lone Ranger"? As history records it, the Lone Ranger was on the trail of a bad guy in the 19th century and had a serious intestinal problem. Mr. Ranger had to stop and exercise his bowl movement before "Hi Hoe Silver's" back became brown, instead of silver? The Lone Ranger rapidly found the closest bush and squatted, then... A rattle snake, not wanting to be dumped upon, struck the Lone ranger in the left buttocks. The following is the documented conversation that followed... Lone Ranger (LR) - Tonto, ride like the wind to town 15 miles East and get me the doctor there and bring him to me. Tonto - Ugh Kemosabie, me ride like the wind and bring back pale face doctor. Tonto: Arriving in town and finding the doctor busy delivering a baby and can not leave, tells Tonto what he must do to save the LR life. Make a small incision across the snake bite, suck out the poison, and bring Kimosabie back to town. Tonto rides like the wind back to the LR and dismounts keeping his distance. The LR asks, "well Tonto, where is the doctor and what did he say"? Tonto then explains to the LR why the doctor did not come .. The LR asks what the doctor told him about the snake bite? Tonto, him say, "Kemosabie, doctor, he say you going to die"!1 point
