Welcome to my world as a libertarian. Pull up a chair and we can watch it burn together. There was never any chance of changing the course when both of the major parties are two sides of the same worthless statist coin.5 points

This is a perfect example of 'government is a disease masquerading ass it's own cure'. The intent is to cause all private health providers to become government resources. When you are dependent on a government bureaucrat to decide whether you or your loved ones can get needed treatment, then you will be much more likely to go along with losing other liberties. Just like gun control, it's not about guns or doctors, it's about 'control'.5 points

You may have to declare it at an airport if you're leaving the country. A bank may have to notify the IRS if you make a cash deposit of that amount. It is not illegal to walk, drive, skip or jump with that much money on your person. That is, unless you get stopped by the drug task force here in the state of Tennessee. Then they will take your money, harass you for a while on the side of the interstate and send you on your way without filing any charges. Oh yeah, they will also keep your money and never return it. But hey, that's a small price to pay to live in a free society.3 points

My brother sent me this in an email. I cannot confirm the content, but found it powerful nonetheless. Here's the story as told by this young lady's father... My 14 year old daughter, Daphne, and I went to a gun rally at the NH Capitol in Concord on Saturday, Jan 19, 2013. I don't even own a gun, but I'm a strong believer in the Constitution and the wisdom of our Founders especially when it comes to government taking away our freedoms, and I don't like the direction Obama is taking the country on that issue. You know, America, land of the free, and all the core strengths that made America great. I made up a bunch of signs and Daphne prepared a letter before the rally, thinking she might hand it out to anyone who was interested. While attending the rally, Daphne noticed that the speaker had stopped talking and that he was handing the bullhorn to anyone who wanted to speak. She pointed that out to me, and soon she went over to the Capitol steps, got in line, and waited for her turn. After fighting her way to the front of the line, she stood there, on the steps of the NH State Capitol, and read a shorter version of the letter below. She brought the house down. After the cheers had died down, dozens of people shook her hand and congratulated her. A couple of reporters interviewed her briefly and other photographers took her picture. Just before she left, a representative from the New Hampshire Assembly talked to her and asked if she could come and speak at a hearing on gun control on Tuesday, Jan 22, 2013. Daphne said, Sure. On Tuesday, we picked her up from school at 12:00 noon and drove to Concord. We found our way to the Legislative Assembly Hall, Room 204. The room was packed and there was a line down the hall and around two corners. Soon, they moved the meeting to another room. The second room also proved too small. Finally, they sent us across the street, up to the large chamber in the Capitol Building. The room was near capacity. About ninety-five percent of the people were pro 2nd Amendment rights. The Representatives and PACs got to speak first, then the common folk. Daphne was in the first 10 folks to speak who were not representing a group. She was poised, though a little nervous, and spoke clearly to the crowd. When she was done, she brought a copy of her speech to the front of the chamber where the representatives were sitting, and they fought over who would get to take it from her. The moderator had previously silenced the hall from cheering or clapping, but people told her they would have cheered if they could as they shook her hand on the way out. The whole proceeding took more than 3 hours. TRANSCRIPT: Delivered to the New Hampshire Legislative Assembly January 22, 2013 Dear citizens of New Hampshire, Four days ago, I was across the street for a gun rally on the steps of the Capitol. I had never been to a gun rally before. I expected it to be all about hunters and guns. I was surprised: People were not afraid of not being able to hunt. They were not afraid of criminals at all. Do you know who they were afraid of? The Federal Government. I was shocked. They were afraid of the government taking away their freedoms. The reason I went to the rally in the first place was that I heard children, like me, talking with President Obama about guns on the radio. I think those kids were far too young to make policy, and got it all wrong. Naturally, I don't want my mom or dad to die either, nor my friends or family. But I learned in school that the First Amendment gives us our Basic Freedoms, like Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion and Freedom to Assemble. To protect our God-given rights, our Founders gave us the 2nd Amendment: The Right to Bear Arms. My Civics teacher taught us that the reason our Founding Fathers gave us the right to bear arms is to protect ourselves from the government of man because when man is given absolute power, he becomes absolutely corrupt. In 1776, guns freed us from the abuses of King George. Today, guns keep us free from tyranny by government. If President Obama wants to take our guns, isn't he taking away our means to protect our right to freedom? Wasn't the 2nd Amendment given to us to protect our 1st Amendment rights? It's not by chance that those are the first two amendments. They were the two most important gifts our Founders gave the American people. I don't know. I'm just a 14 year old girl, and that's what I thought I learned in school. Did Mr. Obama learn something different in school than that? I think it is terrible for someone to use a national tragedy for political gain, don't you? So, when I heard Mr. Obama issued 23 gun control orders in the wake of the Newtown tragedy, I was upset. In school I was taught executive means to execute laws -- not make them. When did that change? Didn't the president swear an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution? Doesn't the 2nd Amendment state: "the right for people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." ˇ Tell me how 23 orders on gun control is not an infringement. Can someone please tell me that? Has King George returned? I hope New Hampshire members of congress remember their pledge and do not use this tragedy to create unjust laws. So I ask myself, what gun would our Founders want their citizen militia to have today to protect us from a government greedy for power. I think Thomas Jefferson would recommend a semi-automatic rifle with 50-round clips, and pistols that hold 20. But, I'm sure George Washington would demand these arms. Just so you know, I don't even own a gun, nor does my mom, or dad. But when I'm old enough, I want the right to buy a gun if I want to, so I can protect the America that I love. I hope I never need one, but I always say, "plan for the worst and hope for the best". Unfortunately, that's sort of why the government is taking away our guns: they are planning for the worst Americans, and not thinking of the best. Maybe the question we should be asking is what caused the morality of the United States to decay? Are parents no longer teaching their kids "thou shalt not kill?" I want to live in an America with laws that protect the best people on Earth, not the worst, don't you? Wouldn't that be more free? Wouldn't that be more American? Isn't freedom what America is all about? The right to bear arms is our best guarantee to live free. Finally, at my track meet at UNH on Sunday, I read the banner on the wall. It said three words: Tradition. Pride. Excellence. I hope and pray that New Hampshire will continue its tradition of excellence and lead the way for the rest of the county, and never infringe on my rights. May the people of the great state of New Hampshire carry on their long tradition of freedom, so we can proclaim with pride the words our forefathers gave us: Live Free or Die! This is our United States. This is our New Hampshire. And that should never change. Live Free or Die, New Hampshire! Thank you, Daphne Jordan Nottingham, NH2 points

I don't know any pro-2nd Amendment State Senators except Mike Bell, please introduce me to the one you know. Why would any one of them suppose that the electorate (at least ones smart enough to make a passing grade on that simpleton test required to get your permit) is so stupid as to believe anything any of them would have to say at this point?2 points

Metal detecting is soo much fun.. Husband and I go whenever he can handle a few hours outside... We really never found anything of supervalue( yet) but we are outside in the fresh air and we get to spend time together. I actually had a dream the other night that I went into my local post office and for whatever reason they had .223 for $50 per 1000. I bought as much as i could and tried to call my friend but my phone wouldn't work. Then my wife woke me for work. I literally went and checked my ammo stash, saw it wasn't true and sulked the rest of the day.2 points

It would be supremely helpful if you would post a synopsis and share your own thoughts rather than just carpet-bombing the forum with links like this. We welcome intelligent debate and conversation and encourage members to share things like this and discuss them but if I want to click a random link with a headline attached to it, I can visit FoxNews.com and eat my heart out. Thanks.2 points

could this be Obama's strategy? get lots of new gun owners ... who go to the range and shoot those with experience?!?! and who will submit to the protective gun registration and confiscation because of all the evil accidents they themselves created with poor shooting skills?!?! :squint:2 points

This is the reason I haven't been to the range in a while. Too bad too because I used to enjoy it. Once I get some ammo though I plan on transitioning to IDPA. I think I will get better use of my ammo AND be around folks who won't shoot me.2 points

I could be mistaken, but I believe the intent of the law was to make healthcare so unaffordable that only the people who could afford it are the ones with enough money that they don't need it. Congress in all its wisdom then comes to the rescue and institutes single payer to lower insurance costs.2 points

An interesting exchange on a different venue from a sitting Senator, explains that the fiscal note put the legislation "behind" the budget, effectively killing any chance is has in its current for for passage. I suspect that the Establishment Republicans are desirous of strangling this baby in its bed, might interfere with their place in line for some Federal Grant...2 points

Wait a second. A month ago AR's were easy to use, chillingly efficient laser-death ray killing machines. Now they're hard to use and you can't hit the broad side of a barn? My how the argument shifts when it looks like an AWB won't make it through Congress.1 point

Before I even went to the range for my first time last year, I read several articles on safety and range etiquette. I watched several videos as well. I am still on edge and aware of where my muzzle is pointed when I am there. This is not only for me to keep from being embarrassed, but for the safety of others as well. Pride and conceit are such a road block to constructive instruction. And dangerous!1 point

I feel that it is anyone's right to take their own life as they please and it isn't my place to judge, however folks who have children, especially young ones, owe their lives to those children. If there are little babies that depend on you then you have no right to kill yourself, I don't care what the circumstances are. Normally I'd believe that the dog's life is worth more than hers, but since she had kids her life was worth a whole lot. What an incredibly selfish thing to do. Yes, I'm judging, but only because she is a selfish sociopath who put her own weak needs above her children. She is a piece of human trash to be discarded and forgotten. If it wasn't for a few songs you occasionally hear on the radio, this would just be another alcoholic drug addict that may or may not get a small blurb in a local paper upon shooting herself. I don't see why her being famous makes this any different.1 point

Apparently we aren't putting enough people in prison or at least not keeping the ones we do in there long enough. Correct me if I'm wrong but an inordinate/majority amount of serious crime is committed by people who have already been convicted of significant crimes, even violent crimes in the past but were still walking around free. Obviously details would have to be worked out but in general, anyone who commits a violent crime against another person that cause significant or harm to the innocent person should be in jail long, long time with NO parole...commit a crime with a firearm and they go away longer; long enough that by the time they get out they are too old and infirm to be a danger to anyone any longer...commit a crime where they actually discharge a firearm and they go away for life...PERIOD.1 point

You're making the assumption they are doing this for PR. The best PR they've ever done is create a product that every AR owner in America, every LEO who has a duty rifle, every Marine/Air Force, Army and Navy servicemember wants in their weapon; the Pmag. I don't think they need to worry about PR. This is about something bigger. If this law is passed then customers in their own state of operation will be cut off. No, this probably won't affect their sales significantly, but what does that say about them if they continue to operate in an environment which bans the sale of their product, yet profits from that very product. This one business pumps millions into an economy with elected officials who are trying to snuff them out. Why wait around for that to happen. Why not move to an economy where the state is supportive of their business, and representatives from that very state will go to Washington DC and fight for their right to continue to exist. You give these guys little credit with your assumptions. This isn't about image, this is about rights.1 point

I thought that some day, in the far distant future, things like this would be happening. What's been going on this past month with these proposed laws have me looking at things very differently. I no longer believe that liberal Democrats are simply misguided folks with differing ideology; to me they are fascists that will not be satisfied until I bend to their ideology, and they will legislate me out of my rights until I am under their thumb. I hope these states pass these laws in their full, unconstitutional form. I think the backlash would give them a lesson about how many Americans reject their ideology.1 point

The simple fact warrantless, door to door "forced inspections" were written into any piece of proposed legislation anywhere within this once free nation, is very troubling. I fear that this is the beginning of a very dark period in our nations history.1 point
