TGO ammo prices haven't been all bad, there are many members here with morals that won't gouge their fellow member. Since sandy hook I've picked up about a dozen AR mags and haven't spent more than $25 on any of them. The bulk of those came from one stand up member who read a post saying I wish I had stocked up before things went crazy. He sold me 9 mags Troy, Pmags, and Colt GI for $9 a piece. Through talking a bit he found out I had no 223 and practically gave me 90 rounds and a bag of tracers to go along with the mags. Then cut me a steal of a deal on a CMMG kit so I wouldn't have to tap into the reserves just to shoot my at the time new AR. Another member sold me 15 boxes of wolf 223 for the staggering price of $4.50 a box. That's what he had into it and that's what he wanted out of it. The $25 dollar GI mags were a trade I worked out for a few NIB remington 570 30 rounders that cost $25 each. There are a few people that should feel ashamed in a few months when things normalize but there are some who have really proven to be good people as well.7 points

I have all that stuff in my house. Is that supposed to be some kind of field expedient bomb? Do they teach every TSA halfwit that these items are somehow dangerous or just the exceptional ones with IQs above 60? And no, I don't live in a small world. I live in a world where I'd rather have a plane hijacked every once in a while than hand over freedoms. The zero defect society that you and your ilk dream of isn't possible without infringing on every aspect of a person's life. Life comes at risk from the moment you're born until the moment before you die. Accept it. Embrace it. The answer is not to restrict liberty in order to prevent disaster, it is to come up with passive measures to prevent incident, such as reinforced doors, and active measures such as Sky Marshals. If we had a Marshal on 50% of flights it would eliminate the threat of hijackings completely without infringing on a single person's rights and would be far cheaper than the TSA which is nothing but a welfare program for people with zero intelligence or job skills. I hate making such a broad assessment, but I have yet to meet a TSA agent that wasn't a complete retard.6 points

I've been watching your defense of the TSA. I don't fly anymore just because of those assholes. I have no idea where you came from, or what you "know", but you're wasting your time with me. The TSA, all of them, need to be rounded up and sent back to their old gigs in the fast food industry. They have ONE fan in this world... you.6 points

Yes our Laissez-faire economics are certainly revealing some interesting character traits here on TGO.5 points

Wow, you really get your tampon in a bunch when folks insult the TSA. I'd say there is a higher than average sampling of people here who absolutely know what the real world is like. I'm one of them. We don't need the TSA. If the reason the TSA exists is to stop planes from being flown into buildings we solved that problem with reinforced cockpit doors. There, problem solved for what it costs the government to employ one brain-dead, mouth breathing waste of oxygen TSA agent.4 points

I am saving yourself a lot of grief, enjoy the vacation. Coming on here making veiled threats and hurling insults will not be tolerated. Enjoy the vacation and don't forget to read the rules with all your free time on your hands. Dolomite3 points

Vandy is a private university and should be able to set policies as they see fit without big brother telling them what to do. If students disagree with the school's policies, they are free to take their education dollars elsewhere.3 points

I'm kinda like the great Jim Crow in that great Disney production "Dumbo".... "Ive seen a backporch swing, heard a diamond ring, but i aint never seen an elephant fly (....nor a glock fail....)!!..". My BS meter is off the scale on this one. Follow the money. There aint nothin new under the sun. leroy2 points

I don't see any rights being violated, its reall simple, don't like the policies at Vandy? Adios, don't let the door hit ya on the way out. No one is forcing anyone to go to the school, its not publicly owned, take it or leave it. As to the policies themselves, I'll have to do a little reading on them before I decide how much or little to care. On the matter of asking the gov to step in and FORCE a privately owned institution to comply, I don't even need to think about that to know I don't support it. Quite frankly its none of their business and they've got more important things to do.2 points

So that makes everything the TSA does in terms of assaulting innocent travelers okay? By that logic, police should be able to strip search anyone they want during a traffic stop, since there have been accounts of female offenders hiding switchblade knives in their snatches. If it saves one life.....2 points

Ahh just upset they don't have another dead child to further the agenda ... as a lot of the comments said, they don't want heroes or people to take a stand. This kid deserves a medal, but sadly, the suspension is most likely all he'll get.2 points

Yes, it really is dangerous. There seems to be a growing trend on the right with this sort of conspiratorial worldview and it's very detrimental to freedom loving people in this country. First, it feeds into the rhetoric of the left that portrays the right, especially gun owners, as dangerous and lacking rational thought. Second, it will be a matter of time before one of these people are crazy enough and pissed off enough to pull another Timothy McVeigh. What's even more concerning to me is that some of the people I know who unquestioningly buy into this crap should be smart enough to know better.2 points

No, you sound like the New York Governor wanting to take away everyone's rights, in this instance right to personal decency and privacy, which is what the TSA does everyday. Search my bags, Xray me. Sure I'll take my shoes off, my belt off, everything out of my pockets.....But when you take your hands and vigorously grope my balls, groin and BH in the name of "security", you are way over the line. The TSA gropes everyone from 3 year olds to 95 year olds in a way that is illegal anywhere. But in an airport your doing it without cause. In both instances I mentioned, the TSA had nothing to do with stopping the bombers. They were stopped by crew and citizens on the planes. What good is it to have the TSA vigorously probe everybody's privates here in America in OUR airports and not do it in Paris, France and Amsterdam anyway? I've worked in Nuclear Plants several times recently and even they don't carry on like the TSA does. The TSA might be your hero's.....but they are not mine. Oh and all this to the tune of $43 BILLION in 2011 and $57 BILLION taxpayers dollars in 2012......2 points

Yeah! The school can't tell private groups how to operate! Christianity is about loving one another, unless you're gay. Or Muslim. Lord knows we can't have them Muslims and gays around the Christians- might be contagious or something! So let's use the government to make this private university do what we want! Yay freedom! Yay America! C'mon, bubba, let's get 'em! :rofl:2 points

So if you're a Christian group, why would you elect a Muslim or other religion into a position of power? That defeats the entire purpose? Seems like much to do about nothing and a bunch of rich kids whining.2 points

I've been storing and putting away ammo now for many yrs and I'm sorting thru it an making a more accurate count of what I have. Here's a small sample of over at minimum half million rnds I have on hand.1 point

You dont always have to decrimp the military brass. the majority of the time the rimer will slide in without removing them. A good way to tell is by using your decapping die. set your decapping die so that it just barely pushes out the primer on a non crimped round. Then try it with some of the crimped brass. The crimps that are more cosmetic than functional will allow the primer to be removed. The brass that actually has strong crimps will still hold on to the primer. you can use this method to sort out the brass that you can immediately use without swaging the pocket. For the ones that you actually need to remove the crimp you can do it by hand with a chamfer tool, although that is way more labor intensive than gettin a swager. I know it doesnt directly answer your question but it may get you more reloadable brass while you wait for a pocket swager1 point

I have saved $20 in entry fees plus fuel costs ($40) by missing on purpose the last two gun shows in Knoxville for a lack of interest. I have no need to visit gun museums, flea markets, and I am too old for the circus.1 point

I just bought my wife a S&W 19-3 357 magnum for her side of the bed and for carry in her car after she completes her carry class. The DA trigger pull is very smooth and she has begun getting comfortable with it with light 38spl loads. She could never get comfortable with my 12ga pump(my HD weapon of choice) or with my SigP220 45. She says a revolver just seems more natural to her. I'm not going to try to argue with her about it.1 point

They exist; Rand Paul, Ted Cruz etc... The problem is that we on the receiving end refuse to do anything except complain to each other about how people need to get more active. It takes 2.3 milliseconds to send an email or start making calls to our reps form the local level all the way up to the top. We motivate the people by starting ourselves. I know Dolo has been burning up the channels, I've started doing it as well to the point where as soon as something comes down the pipe multiple responses are sent within the day. One person doing it means nothing, everyone doing it will get our voices heard.1 point

I haven't used mine yet, but I bought the large one at Harbor Freight. It is the same maker of the Lyman one which has decent reviews and it has excellent reviews at Harbor Freight. I got it on sale, with an additional 20% off using the coupon in the American Rifleman magazine. I think I ended up paying just over $60 for it. I looked at all of them before purchasing that one. Cost wasn't an issue, I just felt it was the overall best value for what I needed. I am typically skeptical of most of the harbor freight stuff, but this was one that appears to be worth it. http://www.harborfreight.com/25-liter-ultrasonic-cleaner-95563.html1 point

If the 9mm is to be used for target shooting where every little bit of accuracy is needed then trim all to the same length, the one that works best in your firearm. If for range or other uses then I would not bother to trim the cases.1 point

Why does the KPD need 6 37 mm grenade launchers??? You east TN people must be really dangerous!!! I wonder why they didn't sell the ammo on gunbroker.1 point

Rausch is relatively a new Chief, having been in that position since 2011. Having read some of the stories on this, here is my theory: New chief simply wants a new weapon. He likes SIG .45s, and wants to carry them. He can't very well just say to the city council that he wants a new firearm just because he likes them. So, he finds a way to sell it to them (like the 4 year lifespan claim, undocumented failures, etc...). I have seen this happen many times before. I worked for agency where we carried Glock 9mm pistols. A new agency head was appointed who was a retired Secret Service agent. The USSS carried SIG P229s in .357SIG, so he transitioned our agency to...........surprise.......SIG P229s in .357. Another example is a federal agency that had a new chief who was a retired FBI agent, and everybody got new badges that looked like big FBI badges.1 point

I get a twisted enjoyment out of watching them squirm like that. No matter how bad the Democrats have screwed something up, the minute a Republican steps in they act like they're eating a baby. Won't even here someone out if there is a letter other than D in front of a name. It's also somehow the Republicans fault in a community run by Democrats for 40 years? Explain that one to me.1 point

So does that mean my PhD in criminology is useless, I lack honesty and objectivity, and any research I produce is only for the purpose of convincing people to buy into the liberal agenda? I guess I'll stop fooling with the research I am currently working on that examines the role of media rhetoric in shaping flawed gun policies. Too bad I didn't realize how liberal and "owned" I am before I started on it. I guess someone needs to call John Lott and Gary Kleck and let them know that they are really liberal hacks too. Sounds to me like you are just as biased and incapable of objective thought as the authors of that study.1 point

I disagree it does a lot of good... First, it doesn't matter what you believe, only what I do... my freedom comes from my humanity, not a piece of paper written 226 years ago. Remember that democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on whats for dinner. Liberty is a well armed sheep contesting the vote. If they come for my liberties, I plan on being a well armed something ;) Part of our problem is that most people can't think rationally and without passion at critical issues. By allowing another persons freedom to be trampled for the 'good of society', they setup the argument for their liberty to be trampled next week. There are lots of things I hate or dislike, very few of them I think should be illegal. I just want to be left alone, and I'm happy to leave others alone in return.1 point

My personal favorite on anything IWB is a hybrid holster (crossbreed, kholster, etc.) I had a "tuk this" holster and didn't really like anything about it. The j clip type deal was hard to get on my belt vs a regular over the top clip. The soft leather didn't distribute the "feel" of the gun on my side like the big piece of leather on a hybrid will do either. There are plenty of good options but I just think the hybrid types are the most comfortable. Once it conforms to your body you won't even know its there with a shield in it.1 point

"EVERY SURPLUS RIFLE WITH BOLT ACTION IS CHEAP SOME TIME IN HISTORY. MOSIN NAGANT RIFLE IS MOST NUMEROUS OF ALL INFANTRY RIFLE. IT IS RIFLE THAT WINS OCTOBER REVOLUTION. IT IS RIFLE THAT CARRIES INFANTRY OF ALLIED FORCES IN EUROPE THROUGH GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR. MOSIN NAGANT RIFLE SERVES FOR MORE THAN CENTURY, OLD STOLEN RUSSIAN RECEIVER IS STILL USE BY SNIPER OF FINNISH ARMY. YOU CAN BE HAPPY WITH 40,000 ROUBLE RIFLE WITH NO HISTORY AND PLASTIC STOCK WHO KILLS PAPER TARGET AND DEER WITH NO WEAPON OR FIGHTING HEART. I think the best way to fight this is with civil disobedience from New Yorkers. I just don't think that it will happen, since gun owners have abided by the law their whole life, they will likely continue to do so. I think that is what is driving us so mad, because we don't want to break the law and so we are taken advantage of by the left.1 point
