  1. I keep reading comments on their Facebook posts from pro-freedom Colorado residents who feel "helpless" and ignored by the elected representatives, stating that they try to call their reps and are told that they can't leave messages, or email and fax and received canned responses thanking them for their concern.  There, like most places, the people are being ignored and the politicrats are doing exactly whatever the hell they want to do and continue down the road of passing laws that people don't want.   So my question is... what does that leave?  When the vermin that infect our government systems refuse to do the bidding of the people who elected them and put them there, what now?  Sure you can vote them out of office at the end of their term, but how much damage can they do in the meantime?  Once freedoms are stripped away it's almost impossible to restore them.   I hate to be that guy, but I'm seriosuly starting to wonder when folks are going to hit their limit and start voting with deeds instead of words.  There are already posts on Magpul's FB page from people who say they are 5th (and longer) generation Coloradans who refuse to tuck their tails and flee to another state but desire to stand and fight for their freedoms.  Things really could get interesting within our generation.

  2. I do not mind picking up ammo for you guys as it comes in the store I have a good stash right now and only reason I buy is because it's there. For those wanting it you can come get it as I find it or pay to have it shipped either way I'm good with helping anyone out.

  5. I was talking with d3vo today at lunch and I think I figured out what missing that I don't like about this season and what I didn't like about much of season 2: Fear of the zombies. There isn't any in most episodes. Season 1 was full of "Oh crap!" moments where you just knew someone was gonna get eaten. Season 2 was 3 weeks of walking around in the woods looking for zombie-Sophie, followed by the rest of the season sitting more or less safe at the farm. We had the one episode with Rick and Shane on a run to where the school bus was that had some good "are they gonna make it?" moments, and of course the last episode was full of fear for the characters.   This season started strong while clearing the prison, and having their "stalker" drawing zombies in on them. Since then they're sitting tight in their safe cell block. Woodbury/TheGuv is a threat, sure, but I can get that human vs human threat on lots of shows. Even during "Clear" the Z's are sparse and eaily trapped or avoided. This is the show where the zombies should be the things to fear. With the safety of the fences and bars plus the ease of killing them with a pocket knife, they've been reduced to an irritant. The fact that Woodbury is using them for sport further reduces the fear factor.   When I see Z's showing up now, I wonder what kind of gory explosions the FX guys are going to pull off when the Z is dispatched. I used to wonder which human was going to die.

  8. This is probably old news for most, but if it saves one person some $$$...   If you are approaching the speedway from Johnson City, take great care thru the fiefdom of Bluff City/Piney Flats.  Speed limit drops to 45, and BC has made well over $1.5 million in the last few years off of a strategically-placed speed camera monitoring both sides of 11E.  They're located about a quarter-mile or so past the Industrial Park intersection (red light) if Bristol-bound, and just past Pardners BBQ if JC-bound.  Watch for the small warning signs, and don't feed the trolls...

  9. I think it's an excellent idea.  More competition in the market is always a good thing.  Liquor store owners certainly aren't happy about it as they're likely to lose their cheap wine business to the grocery stores.  But liquor stores manage to survive in plenty of other states where wine is sold in grocery stores.

  10. I am sorry it's taken me this long to respond to the thread but I wanted to offer that I'll be sure to keep your grandfather and your family in my prayers.  While the outcome of these few days may not be what you desire, I cannot help but notice an underlying statement in what has transpired and hope that you will find some encouragement in it as you face the uncertainties ahead:   All too often we rely on the words of doctors as being final and authoritarian.  When they deliver bad news, we tend to take it at face value and sometimes resign ourselves to "the worst".  Your grandfather's prognosis was that he would only be with you for a few more hours and that was several days ago.  The fact that he persists with you is proof that the human spirit is an indomitable thing and that doctors do not always have the last word.  God does.   Those are two incredibly powerful and extremely valuable lessons to take away from this.  It's funny how sometimes the people we have looked up to our entire lives take a bit longer to stay with us and teach us a few more things before they finally lay down their burdens and embrace the eternal rewards of a life well lived.   Hang in there.

  11. THe science is Newton's third law of motion.  For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.  It's what tells us that hollywood is BS.  When someone shoots someone and it blows them off their feet???  For that to happen the recoil would be equal to that.  I know nothing of physics but I would say the reason you felt such an impact is the equal amount of force being focused into such a small area.  ...but what do I know.

  12. Oh yeah, his story totally fails the smell test. It is far and away a load of crap. I would feel comfortable speculating that he isn't a true believer when it comes to gun grabbing. This is simply an opportunistic platform to seek prominence/ elected office. If it came out that the DNC power brokers offered him backing if he hopped on board the anti-2A train I would be less shocked than if there was a video of Obama out there a la EFAD.

  15. This weekend I took a rifle class with Randy Harris (Cruel Hand Luke) down in Tunica, MS.  Randy is, in addition to being a pretty cool dude and not someone upon whom I would want to attempt a criminal act, a highly qualified instructor full of real-world, street-practical knowledge.  I've seen this in his posts here on TGO over the years, and that is what attracted me to his classes.  He did not disappoint in real life.  In short, I highly recommend seeking training from him. I truly think you'll come away with more tools to put in your box.   Because (I suspect) of current market conditions, we did not shoot a whole lot of ammo.  I shot maybe 400 rounds rifle and 25 pistol.  And this was a two-day class.  I was fine with this and it's even something Randy and I had talked about beforehand.  You don't need to shoot through a lot of rounds to learn how to run your weapon.   Saturday we worked on transitions to pistol, shooting on the move to both right and left, and magazine changes.  One drill we worked was standing close to the target, maybe 7 yards, and acquiring a nice even sight picture, then speeding it up by just looking over the top of the sight or optic.  We did this standing still then on the move.  I learned a lot by doing this moving to the left, and how to move my hands on the weapon to switch shoulders.   Sunday we continued shooting/moving drills, then worked into using cover and concluded with some great team drills incorporating communication and covering fire.    The weather was a challenge.  It was very windy both days and we kept having issues with the targets being blown down or just blown away.  Sunday was perfect Scottish golfing weather, about a 20-mph wind, steady rain, and temps in the 50's (which felt lower with the wind and rain).  Aside from the target issues, I liked the weather because of the difficulties it presented.    I kept my gear pretty simple and learned that what I have works pretty well.  Just a battle belt with a couple each pistol and rifle mags.  Rifle is in an MS3 sling which I really like.  One thing I do need is a dump pouch to put empty mags.  We discussed the realistic use of a rifle for civilian use.  Basically it's going to be either home defense or a short-term, regional event that might disrupt power, law and order, and the generally thin veneer we call society.  In a situation like that you might want to get in the habit of retaining your mags.  I always thought I could use my pockets but that doesn't work too well under stress I found out.  So I'll be looking for a dump pouch.   I got a lot out of this class, especially using cover, transitioning shoulders and moving to the left.  A lot that I can now work through on my own. Randy has great personality for teaching, very real, not wooden, and very knowledgeable and organized.  He puts things in a real-world, civilian perspective.    Go train with him, you won't be disappointed.

  16. After testifying about how no one needs one of these, he went out and bought one. Then gets caught in the deal and says "it was only for demonstrating how easy it is to get one". And that he is going to turn the gun over to police when it arrives.   First thing I noticed is that if he was trying to buy a used gun and he was not allowed to leave the store with the gun, then it seems like it wasn't that easy. Secondly, if this was a stunt to show how easy it was, not only was it a terrible idea, it failed miserably and back-fired    http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/03/09/Gabby-Giffords-Husband-Buys-AR-15-Announces-He-s-Not-Keeping-It-After-News-Leaks-Out

  17. Just finished the third Enemies Foreign and Domestic by Matthew Bracken. Written by a real Navy Seal and man I could not put it down. His first book is almost a transcript of what's happening in Washington after Newtown. He wrote the first of the series in 2003 and it starts out about a massacre at a stadium that leads to all the political crap we are seeing right now. It's almost prophetic.

  24. My step dad has a 2005. It's been a good truck overall. The transmission crapped out at 100k which is a little weak in my opinion. He caught it early so the dealership was able to fix it rather than replace it.   He has almost 120k on it now. The V6 has plenty of power to pull his 19 ft ski boat. Gas mileage is pretty weak for a mid size truck though at around 15mpg

  26. this has probably already been said, i just skipped to the reply box to voice my opinion.   I myself dont do a whole lot of trading. Ive only traded on guns two  times in my life so far that i can think of. I get to attached to them. Even my old milsurp guns (sks's, mosin's of different varieties, etc) i cant trade off. I would rather just save up and buy what i want, then I will have it all lol. Some guys that trade alot dont get attached to their guns like i do, and trade alot so they can try new ones. thats my opinion on it anyway

  27.   There's a lot going on in your example.  The magnitude of acceleration and the rate of change of acceleration (called the jerk) are involved.  There's a threshold beyond which a simple acceleration applied to an object becomes an impact.  Impact gets a little deeper and involves conservation of momentum, coefficient of restitution (elastic & plastic collisions), and impulse (a vector quantity).  You've also got to consider the mechanical properties of the block  and hammer (compressive strength, fracture toughness).  It gets busy.  This illustrates why engineering homework problems are so simple, and in turn why real engineering problems (that may seem simple) can be quite complex.

  32. The reason the gun recoil vs bullet impact seems to not make sense is the missing part of the equation. Using a .308 as an example, you're pushing a 150 gr bullet at 2800 fps. The gun actually does have an equal rearward momentum into your shoulder, but it's soooo heavy compared to the bullet.. So, to balance Newton's conservation momentum formula, that 8 pound gun (7000 gr/lb) weighs 56,000 gr, so it only has to be moving at 7.5 fps (I originally said 2.4, but forgot that was yards, not feetactually yds/s). 150gr bullet x 2800 fps = 56000gr gun (8# x 7000gr/#) x 7.5 fps That's why those damn polymer stocks on a Mosin will mess you up!

  33. Never said that I agree with that, but if that funding doesn't come with conditional agreement that they adhere to certain policies, such as allowing religious groups to dictate who they admit, then they still aren't doing anything wrong. Technically, when I was in the military I was funded by the government, but I could spend that money on hookers and booze without taxpayers getting up in arms about their money being used on something they are ideologically opposed to.

  37.   Exactly right. Can put any number of firearms on one 4473, but when it is submitted, it is closed out.   If two or more handguns are purchased at same time (or within 5 consecutive business days), FFL must file an additional form 3310, but buyer has no input into that and generally doesn't even know about it.   - OS

  39. Its the media to blame and panic to blame. Remember in TN about 4 years ago when a rumor got around that the state was going to run out of gas? Its caused people to go top off thier cars and put extra in gas cans. That caused gas stations to run out and it was hard to get gas for a week. The same thing is sorta happening with guns and ammo. But its lasting longer cause the media keeps talking and people are still in a panic.

  41. There are a lot of hunters and recreational shooters that go along with some of the restrictions true anti-gunners are proposing, like private back checks and mag caps. They say they support the second amendment, but I believe it's more that they are not against it. Folks like the Giffords affirm that the people have a right to keep and bear arms, but they stumble over the "shall not be infringed" part. What if you were to ask them if the same restrictions they want to place upon our 2A rights would carry over to 1A? How about allowing free speech, but you're limited to no more than 10 minutes? What if all civil rights activists were required to undergo a background check before they could get a permit to march in protest or stand on a corner with a sign? Could a person in need of legal counsel hire someone who once served in the JAG Corps or would he be too much of a "military style" lawyer? I mean, where do we draw the line on their favorite rights?

  42. I love my P1.  It is so comfortable to shoot and the trigger is great.  I can't find a thing wrong with it.    I have had a similar experience with Soughern Ohio Guns.  I purchased a Tokarev and paid extra for hand picked.  The first one arrived with no front sight blade.  So much for "hand picked".  The second one they sent would not fire when the trigger was pulled.  The hammer would hang.  Finally, the third pistol they sent functioned as designed.  In the future I would never again pay for "hand picked" from SOG.  My experience has proved it to be a scam to rake in an additional 10 bucks.  Oh, and then there is their "triple-check" before shipping.  So much for that too.

  46. I'm not a Glock guy, but will gladly tout them as one of the most reliable handguns on the market.  The stated 4 year lifespan is BS.  Half the cops I know aren't gun guys/girls and put their minimum few hundred rounds downrange to qualify each year.  They aren't wearing any gun out.  For 99% of modern service pistols you'd have to put over 10,000 rounds down the barrel before even thinking about having a possible problem.
