Many of our customs come from defensive tactics dating back before firearms. For instance, escorting the lady who is holding onto your left arm was to leave the strong hand side free to suddenly draw your sword without her blocking your movement. Passing oncomers to your right side was so you could easily draw and defend without the risk of blocking from the attacker. It was common practice that became a custom it was so frequent. Man kills with whatever gets the job done.4 points

From experience, the VA cannot be fixed in it's current form. In the private space, we sometimes find incompetence. We sometimes find indifference. We don't usually find both at the same time. I would argue that this is the primary difference between the public space and private space in 2013. Within the government, it doesn't really matter if you don't know what you're doing and you don't care. Payday still comes on Friday. If we're going to make meaningful change within the VA, we're going to have to tear it down and start over - whether metaphorically or literally.4 points

On Fox News live...Gun violence. Of course, it's still the gun's fault. No blame for the person holding the gun. In my mind violence is violence. The gun is just a tool. How can people believe there would be no violence if there were no guns. The world was a violent place before guns existed. Violence is historically part of human behavior. Just to hear Obama say the words "gun violence" irritates me. OK, just to hear his voice irritates me. Blame and finger pointing is his way of communicating. Redirecting responsibility. Except for killing Osama. You'd think he did that all by himself. I'm sure all of this has been said here before but seeing him spewing his bs on TV just got my blood boiling. Rant off. I'm better now.3 points

I like Palin, I don't care what anyone else thinks of her. I've watched enough of her interviews, debates & speeches to have an educated opnion on the woman's intelligence, convictions & beliefs and while she was being completely and unfairly ripped apart in the media she still stood her ground and simply said "bring it on!" I liked that, I liked that a lot, most folks would have cowered from that sort of onslaught, especially when they started going after her kids & family. Never in my life have I seen such a ruthless wide spread media campaign designed with the sole purpose to destroy a person/politician, but Sara Palin did not even flinch, that woman is one heck of a lady, one heck of a Patriot, and I for one am proud to be able to call her a fellow American.3 points

The VA sucked when my dad was a young mangled Marine. It sucked when I returned from Desert Storm, and it sucked a few years ago when I walked out of its doors and swore to never go back. It's criminal how they treat veterans. It's criminal how this country treats its veterans. I agree that its a political problem, as both parties are the same in my eyes. The very people that happily vote to send young people off to war turn a blind eye to the small percentage of Americans who actually volunteer to serve this country. This VA problem is one of the reasons why I hate foreign aid. This country will send billions of dollars in aid to other countries while denying benefits to veterans with war related issues. Its a f*^%#ing shame!3 points

This show makes me happy, happy, happy. Is it me, or is this one of the best tv shows on tv now adays. I just discovered this show a few months ago on A&E, and all I can say is everyone is happy, happy, happy. That is some of the best commedy I have seen in awhile that I can relate to. Its great for the family too, no cursing, full of laughs, helpful quotes, and always ends with a dinner prayer. I use to only watch NCIS each week, but now I have to watch equally NCIS and Duck Dynasty. Got to love Si, especially the Christmas episode the other night and his comments as an elf to the kids. That was way too funny. I think I may grow me one of those bushy beards, hope my employer does not mind. Do you watch? http://2 points

Well... The SCOTUS is currently hearing oral arguments on DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act). I have made opinion known on same sex marriage in numerous other threads. I think the government (federal and state) should get out and stay out of the marriage business. We should have civil unions for everyone, straight and gay. My intent was not to create another thread on gay marriage. We have had plenty of those, and nobody ever convinces each other that their viewpoint is correct. The reason I posted the thread is because this country is going to $hit, that little fat bastard in NK is on the verge of starting another war, and McCain and Graham keep pushing us to go into Syria, and what is everyone so focused on? ****ing gay marriage. Is this akin to playing the fiddle while Rome burns? (edit) - took care of my pejoratives :)2 points

Your meme is simply inaccurate. Critical thinking means you question "reality" and apply objective logic to uncover evidence through some degree of scientific discovery in an effort to confirm or refute what you or another presents as "truth." Conspiracy theorists do not examine circumstances objectively or seek accurate evidence. They are quite the opposite. They approach every circumstance with a preconceived view of reality and categorically select bits of information that fit their preconstructed narrative. Where information is absent, they replace it with speculation, which is again specifically drawn from their preexisting worldview. In the face of irrefutable evidence showing they are mistaken, they simply retort with more conjecture and/or proclaims that the evidence is fabricated, thus providing further "evidence" of their conspiracy. Take the original video in this thread. What piece of information would be sufficient to convince the filmmaker that those vehicles are not part of some vast government conspiracy? What piece of evidence would convince the 9/11 "truthers" that the attacks were not carried out by the US government? That type of skepticism is not an exercise in critical thinking.2 points

What the media did to Palin was criminal. They slandered and vilified her at every turn with no proof whatsoever. They did to her what they always do to those they fear - they painted her as an idiot. There are people who STILL believe that she actually said that you can see Russia from Alaska. I'd put her up against the MORON who currently holds the title of VP any day of fhe week, even though that's not saying much.2 points

Although this is going back quite a few years, I used to be good friends with the director of the VA hospital in Seattle. I don't say this just because he was a friend (now passed on) but he was an extremely dedicated man and truly sought to do the best he and that hospital possibley could for the veterans who came there for care. However, he often related to me just how discouraged he was with their funding, burauracy and the level of care he was able to provide. What is wrong with the VA has a lot more to do with systemic problems than anything else and I'm doubtful it can be fixed with the way it exists today...I think the only answer is to start over with a clean slate. What is most sad is that we are failing many of our veterans TODAY and I see little hope that will change anytime soon even if they started trying to fix it today. It's a badge of shame for our country that we have allowed this to happen for decades.2 points

This isn't exactly news. VA has historically sucked! Personally, I've been waiting over 2 years. VA claims are handled just like Social Security disability claims: deny them outright hoping that the claimant will drop it, and if not then they delay it as long as possible forcing the claimant to get lawyers involved. The whole system is shameful.2 points

The Pope and Obama are on the same stage in Yankee Stadium in front of a huge crowd. The Pope leans towards President Obama and said, "Do you know that with one little wave of my hand I can make every person in this crowd go wild with joy? This joy will not be a momentary display, but will go deep into their hearts and they'll forever speak of this day and rejoice!" Obama replied, "I seriously doubt that! With one little wave of your hand?....Show me!" So the Pope backhanded him and knocked him off the stage! AND THE CROWD ROARED & CHEERED WILDLY and there was happiness throughout the land!2 points

I submit that if anyone ever wants to see conservatives in charge of this country again they'll let this one go. Homos getting married effects no one. The Repbulican party is teetering on the brink of irrelevance and the last I checked they where the represetatives of conservatives. If they keep on fighting against people's "pursuit of happiness" then don't be surprised if the Dems take the White House again in 2016, and everything else.2 points

We haven't had much for choices in recent years. I'd take Palin over Obama, Hillary, McCain, or Romney. At least I have some things in common with Palin. I reckon my dog could do as well as a couple of those choices. Probably better.1 point

Yes, really. Someone sold me 8 PMAGs that I didn't need for $100. I then traded those 8 PMAGs for 400 rounds of green tip. You will have a difficult time buying ammo at a good price, but I've made some pretty awesome trades in the last couple of months.1 point

Its my understanding that Thomas and Chris had been friendly ribbing each other all weekend. I don't think it was meant maliciously. Regardless, Thomas and Chris are both great guys. And Chris' people certainly build a fantastic product, even if his attitude leaves a bit to be desired.1 point

Yeah, they are pretty good. I ran across them several weeks ago. I will say that Mr. Reeve doesn't lack any confidence, but in fairness, his knives do represent the pinnacle of quality. I would go so far to say that they are indeed the best in the world. I did find it humorous at his dig at Thomas (who I believe is heading up Kershaw) when he received another Quality Award at Blade.1 point

I am not inherently racist, but I do get tired of the double standards we allow. Being black so often gets one a "pass" and Im sick of that. And like Garufa said, its at least as many whites that perpetuate this as blacks...maybe out of some misplaced sense of guilt or something. Blacks are still a minority in this country, It took a whole lotta whites to get him elected. I am convinced that the true racism in this country nowadays, the systemic racism, is something that is alive and well. It's evident in the way we encourage welfare moms to birth more babies, and not make fathers be responsible for their offspring. I think this all started with Lyndon Johnson's Great Society, and the social welfare government we have that rewards a lack of personal and family responsibility. We actually encourage bad behavior! And under Obama, things have gotten way worse...we actually encourage people, even non citizen immigrants to get on food stamps! Black liberation theology, my A&^%^ There's a book by Ken Hamblen, a former radio talk show host in Denver, called "Pick A Better Country". Excellent read. Oh and by the way, Ken in black...he called himself the Black Avenger! Also, I encourage you to listen to Carl Boyd on 99.7 on Sunday afternoons.1 point

If the Federal Government would stick to the only powers granted it by the Constitution, and the rest being states and individual rights, problem(s) solved nationally. If the Federal SCOTUS would stick to and hear only those issues under the Constitution and Bill of Rights granted them, more problem(s) and disputes solved nationally. If the Federal Government would go back to the foundations of English Law which we modeled after, human God given rights, the foundational morals that separated U.S. resulting in the 1776 quest for freedom and independence, most other problems would be solved. We are not a democracy, we are a Constitutional Republic which we stand, one nation under the one living God, which we were founded. If God gives U.S. our rights, he will not ever take them back. If a king, politician, president, congress, etc. gives us our rights, they can be modified and / or taken back at anytime, as is occurring bit by bit from our foundation. Man is inherently hungry for power over other men. That's an indisputable historical fact no one can argue, period! If our nation was founded and based on Biblical law and principals, English law and independence from a monarchy... Look at where we're currently at and heading toward. Just common sense, where would the human population be as far as population, morals and disease if the world were mostly Sodomites? Next is the question of what's next, "beastiality"? There's a created plumbing difference for a good reason. Just my biblical and historical views folks.1 point

I don't have an hour to watch a video. How about a one paragraph summary? BTW, this is one of my pet peeves. I can read a LOT faster than I can wait for a video to load, and then watch it. People that post a video without giving me a summary to let me decide if I'm interested can be absolutely certain that I won't watch it!1 point

Currently, firearms sales are prohibited only to those who have actually been adjudicated as being mentally ill. This law would strip 2nd amendment rights based on hearsay alone. In essence, you would lose a Constitutionally-protected right based on what you said, not on a proven action or intent. The right to keep and bear arms is already the only Constitutionally-protected right that you can lose without becoming a felon. The Violence Against Women Act makes any man a violent criminal in the eyes of the law based only on an affidavit from the woman that the man has made verbal threats or acted like he was going to hit her. Anyone going through a divorce should understand that a Temporary Restraining Order is almost standard procedure by many divorce attorneys. If you don't fight it, you lose twice. You lose your guns, and the other side uses the TRO to show a reason to deny you fair distribution of assets, child custody, or even unsupervised visitation. This bill would require ANY 'mental health professionals' to deny you firearms if you make what THEY perceive as threats. And the threat doesn't have to be in their presence. They just have to hear of such a threat. And the category of 'mental health professionals' is very broad. It includes school counselors, pastors, and others you would not suspect.1 point
