Excuse me....but these things are very dangerous! I felt something crawling on my leg one night, so I told my wife to turn on the light somethings crawling on my leg. She turned on the light and I threw the covers back. There was a spider just like that sitting on my thigh. My wife beat it to death with the alarm clock........I couldn't walk for 2 days and my thigh was bruised for over a week..!!!!7 points

Yeah, ANOTHER Zimmerman post. For those of you who are members of the Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network, you probably received the August newletter in your email box this morning. In it, Marty Hayes has an excellent article on Lessons Learned in the Zimmerman Case. Very well written and informative. I will share some bulletpoints and my own comments: 1. Cost of the Case - Evidently, Zimmerman's cost to date on his defense is over $400,000. Part of that was $95,000 to his bail bond. Even the best of self-defense insurance policies won't cover that full cost. Be prepared to expend HUGE amounts of money if you are ever prosecuted. The bail bond will be due very early in the case and will likely be significant. Do you have the ability to make those payments, particularly in a short amount of time? If not, how would you deal with it? Are you going to be stuck in jail (i.e., no bail money) or stuck with a public defender (i.e., no retainer fee)? 2. Ammo Selection - this has been discussed many times, but ammo selection is almost always a key part of a self-defense case. Not necessarily whether or not your ammo was appropriate, but because of the physical evidence ammo leaves at the scene. Being able to reproduce (as close as possible) the gunshot residue could be vital. As a result, handloads have a distinct downside. Even if you could reproduce the exact load, you would HAVE to testify to show that (and you might not want to testify, as Zimmerman chose not to). Commercial ammo, particularly from a reputable company that still makes the exact load you used, gives you the ability to recreate the gunshot residue pattern and use an expert witness to bolster your case. As you may recall, the gunshot residue was significant in the Zimmerman case to show that Martin was on top of Zimmerman at the time of the shooting. 3. Changes to a Stock Gun - while not specifically brought out in the Zimmerman case, Marty talks about 4 other cases where he has been a witness recently. The state produced a firearms expert witness in each case to discuss the gun used, its safety features, etc. Zimmerman's gun was, apparently, a stock gun, so not much came out about it. However, changes to a stock gun (such as reducing trigger pull weight, personalized engravings, etc) would have been a big issue in Zimmerman, as it has been in other cases, if he had not used a stock gun. If you make changes to a stock gun for your self-defense weapon, think about what those changes show to a jury. 4. Your History - Zimmerman's history of calls to police, his desire to be an LEO, etc. were major issues for the prosecution. If Zimmerman had made online postings that were negative, rest assured the prosecution would have used them. Before you tell people how you would defend yourself, or before you post something on TGO, think about what that statement or post would look like in front of a jury. There is a current post about whether someone needs to take a butt-kicking before defending himself. I would suggest just looking at those posts and asking yourself whether or not you would want to have a jury viewing those posts if you were on trial. Some of the posts would be fine, but I think there are a few that I would not want to have to defend in court. If you are a member of the Armed Citizens' Legal Defense Network, please read that article. Marty has the experience and knowledge that really helps to understand and learn from the Zimmerman case.1 point

Is anybody getting pumped about calling for a States' Constitutional Amendment Convention to defang our runaway government? It is in the power of the states through Article 5 to change the Constitution through a states-initiated amendment process, including term limits for Congress and the Supreme Court. Mark Levin has been voicing this clarion call for the people to petition their state legislatures to get the ball rolling. http://www.humanevents.com/2013/08/15/mark-levins-liberty-amendments/ Here's a rallying point: http://conventionofstates.com/1 point

Yesterday evening i was out in the storage shed behind my house. While i was looking out a car pulls up to the stop sign by my yard as i live on a corner lot. They throw a bag of mcdonalds garbage out the window right into my yard. Now i ride my bike a lot and i knew exactly when this person stays or lives. Which is 3 streets over. Anyways i wait for night and ride my bike right over to his house and throw his bag of trash right in his driveway by his car. Was that wrong of me? Cause i felt justice when I did it.1 point

What's so funny about this is that they don't need the BS pictures; the Army has been laying these guys out for almost a week. There are AP photos of them shooting incendiary devices into their camps, causing widespread fires killing untold numbers, then following it up with live rounds and an armored bulldozer to destroy their barricades and camps. The death toll is approaching 1,000. The military has taken the gloves off and is cracking skulls. Best we can do is keep our mouths shut and let em purge those sons of bitches. I like that Obama has no idea what to do.1 point

Well just so we're aware, al Qaeda has been all over this for years. I can't remember where I saw it, but there was surely an article in their terror rag about it. Not hard to do at all, but with the small amount of explosives you'd be limited to I'm not sure what the application would be. Also, they'd have to figure out their fuse, which would need to detonate on impact. The level of sophistication needed to engineer that is pretty high for these guys, so surely it would result in catastrophic operator error, yielding hilarious results.1 point

I have an SR9C, but I don't have a CZ. With that said, I cannot really compare them, but I will say that I love the sr9c as a carry gun. I have no intentions of going with anything different at this time. Although it a smaller gun, it points and shoots really well, and with an 11 rd capacity and a spare 17 rd mag, I have never felt like I would need more rounds. In my opinion (which I will admit that I am a Ruger fan), these guns, both the sr9 and sr9c, are hard to beat for the price you pay for them. I cannot tell you they are the best 9mm, because for one, I have not owned enough different 9mm to make that claim and two, what is best for one person is not what is best for the next.1 point

I always called them grass spiders, since that's the only place I ever see them. I've been bitten numerous time by them while weeding flower beds and, while not very painful, you still know it when you've been bitten. Pain goes away within minutes, leaving a red mark. While not deadly to people, I'd rather not be bitten.1 point

We got a system like this for my elderly mother who still lives alone. She carried the activator on a necklace. About a month or so after we installed it, my mother fell in her bedroom and could not get back up. She used it, and it worked great. The call center notified my sister and called the local EMS, and the ambulance was at my mom's house within 5 minutes. Luckily she was not injured, aside from some bruises. It was money well spent.1 point

If you ever compared the trigger spring and hammer of an AK to an AR you will understand why you get light strikes with x39 ammo in the AR platform. 7.62x39 ammo primers can be fairly hard. You tend to have the same issues when you use some of the competition or aftermarket AK trigger springs. Feeding issues are due to mags not having the constant curve but rather the straight mag with a bend in the middle like Mike was saying. This is why they made the .300 blackout. Otherwise it's like converting a Ferrari to run on diesel or putting murders and a lift kit on a corvette. ;)1 point

Nowadays you'll normally see standard issue being M68s, EOTechs and ACOGs. There's some other stuff with SOF units, but that covers the vast majority. Each unit is going to be different in what their SOPs are regarding optics. Some may mandate optics, such as designated marksman having ACOGs and everyone else having an M68 on their rifle. Others may let them put on their choice. A long time ago, before many units even had M68s, you'd see all kinds of non-standard optics that Soldiers bought with their own money. I've seen M4s with cheapo $50 Walmart scopes on them and that was the designated marksman for the squad... no joke. Now most, if not all, active duty units have ACOGs and M68s; EOTechs are the next most common after those two.1 point

The only problem with a cell phone is you have to be of "right mind" to use it. The person in trouble may only be able to manage a button press and not respond otherwise. Also if you can't respond to the 911 operator on a cell it may be to late before they figure out who's calling and where they are. Triangulation or Pinging of a cell signal is complicated and takes a while, plus the cell companies usually have to be the ones to do it. Whatever you do needs to be tied to a landline so they can track the call via Caller ID and wearable around the neck or wrist. Think about your own cell phone, how many times do you have to look for where you set it down, not to menton if they fall will they be able to reach the device. The person your trying to protect may only have one chance amd won't be able to go looking for a cell phone.1 point

This. Also consider that these gatherings of the people's representatives rarely remain within the bounds set forth by the electorate. During the French Revolution, for example, the people voted for representatives and sent them to voice their concerns to the king. But when the representatives assembled, they sort of forgot the limited nature of their mission, and instead opted for creating a written constitution and instigating something that eventually morphed into the Terror. My point is that, given the great liberties popular representatives take during tumultuous times, and given the average quality of modern American politicians, We the People might not get what we bargained for out of a constitutional convention. This is not to say I'm opposed to holding one. It's just a worry of mine that looms large any time I think about the possibility of actually accomplishing a CC.1 point

Politicians and the anti’s have quit talking about “Gun Control†and have changed the term to “Illegal Gunsâ€. WTF is an illegal gun? Even fully automatic weapons are legal if you pay the tax. We already have laws that make it a crime to steal a gun. Many states even have laws specifically addressing firearm theft. They don’t want to address “illegal guns†they want to ban guns from all people; both law abiding citizens and criminals. If someone wants a gun to go commit armed robberies they aren’t going to care how they get it. If they can’t buy it they will break into houses until they find one to steal. “Gun crime†is just crime. How is an armed robbery at gun point any worse than at knife point, or even a brutal physical attack? Suicide is suicide. Why would it make a difference if a person used a gun, shut the garage door and started the car, or hung themselves? Sandy hook and the movie theater shootings were not “illegal guns†or even guns that were obtained illegally.1 point

How far are the fired cases ejecting? If they are just dribbling out of the gun and landing at your feet then likely need either a lighter recoil spring for that load or bump up charge. If going more than five feet than spring/load might not be the issue. Also, have you check the ejector? Is it tight in the frame and not cracked or chipped?1 point

Chapman Hwy Wal Mart had some .380/.38/.40/.45 both range and SD. Prices appeared pre-scare levels. Also had a decent assortment of long gun and they HAD 2 boxes of Rem UMC .30cal carbine, $30 per 50...a little high. no 9mm or .22 While it's nice that we are looking out to put ammo in homes and dollars in WM tills, can we start a thread LGS and Ammo? A common term used for support personnel who add nothing to the fight yet take up enormous amounts of space and energy supporting themselves while the guys in the field are using duct tape to keep their boots together. The other term more commonly used was not appropriate; a phallus that fellates itself... only a slightly more graphic representation.1 point

Save yourself the drawer full of holsters that is inevitable on this quest and go straight for a Raven Phantom. It's more than $40 but so is buying a bunch that don't quite work like you want. It shines as an owb holster but can be used iwb. You'll be glad you did...1 point

The short answer is no. A compressed load is safe providing it is within the allowable pressure range. If you are loading published loads, and doing it correctly, it'll be fine. You also may find it to be a very accurate load.1 point

where my farm is located in georgia, the county has free trash dumps in several spots around the county. so you can throw your trash away for free, 24/7. but no way, the local dirt bags throw their trash on the road next to my hay fields and at the bridge on my place. last week there was five white trash bags full on the road and on the side of the road. by the time i got stopped to move the one in the road to the side, a "pill billy" in his beat up junk of a car ran over it and trash went every where. no matter what i do it is the same bunch of low information voters, they don't have anything, don't work, don't care, and live off the working man. i use to look in the bags to get a address, but these dirt bags don't get mags and/or mail so there is no way to track them down. about five years ago a dirt bag dumped several large green trash bags by the bridge on my farm road. i found one mag, a playboy, with a address on it. i loaded all of the bags up, called the sheriff (my cousin) and off we went to the address. it was a dump of a single wide trailer, a real "pill billy" place. no one was home and we dumped all of it by the front door. but you could not tell the new trash from the old trash in the front yard.1 point

I saw some woman park and get out of at Walmart and kick a bunch of trash (fast food stuff) out on the ground. She was driving a pickup so you can guess where that ended up. I believe I left her a shitty note too. Littering annoys me. There's rarely any excuse for it. The ballfield at the local school is next to a place I walk and often when I go past, the stands are filled with all sorts of food trash. Take some pride, people.1 point

Let's be clear: This isn't about the right to carry arms, it's about you essentially wanting permission to carry them openly to enlighten people. This has nothing to do with a person's legal permission to carry a firearm openly as granted by the state of Tennessee so long as they have a Handgun Carry Permit. You can buy that permission from TDOS already. There's no need for me to fight for you to obtain the permission to do something you can already do. As has been stated, Tennessee does not recognize the Second Amendment as the only legal authority you need to carry a firearm on your person in this state. If you want to fight something, fight that. That being said, my handgun isn't a political podium. I don't carry it to make a political statement or to enlighten anyone. I carry it for my self defense, and I carry it in the means that provides me the most strategic advantage. If you want to carry yours openly and scare the sheep, just keep in mind that you run the risk of scaring them straight to the closest sign-maker to whip up another "SHALL NOT CARRY" posted location, or to the nearest politician who will promise them to make it all go away if they vote for them. Or you'll end up like this assclown: Whether you want to believe it, or like it, openly carrying does inspire a reaction and it may not always be the one you want. You will pass by dozens of people each day who may not say a word, but you've inspired a reaction with them and it likely won't be a positive one. You have no control over what someone else may think or do as a result of your choice to strap one on and walk around with it visible. And their reaction may not come in the form of a question or even a terse word to you on the spot. It may come later in the form of a ballot being cast against visibly displayed firearms for HCP owners (it's illegal to let your concealed weapon be seen in some states) or in the form of yet another retail store or restaurant being posted as anti-gun. I support your right to make dumb decisions. I just don't support your exercising that right when it harms my ability to exercise the same one a little more discretely.1 point

At 50 miles you would need a Large Directional or “deep fringe†antenna. Most HD signals are using UHF (But there are some VHF). Here is a source of info to get you started... http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/welcome.aspx There is another source that lists exactly where all the antennas are for the TV stations, and has a lot of good info, but I can’t find it right now. Shameless plug… I have 60 feet of Rohn 25 tower with a hinged base, rotor and controller for sale. (With or without a Jo Gunn 3+3 Star)1 point
