1. Alright you two. Knock it off. Back to topic, as someone who has faced real discrimination based on sexual orientation by being discharged under DADT (long story)I wouldn't call what took place there real discrimination. A private entity chose not to provide his services to a couple of folks based on personal convictions, boohoo. Unless this baker engaged in actions that caused identifiable harm to the couple like accepting the order and then reneging at the last moment, or calling all the other bakers in town and having them blackballed because they were a couple of 'mos then leave the poor man alone. To the couple in question I would ask why they feel the need to have the approval of everyone to the point of taking folks to court so that they can get some one to officially say they are just as good as everyone else. It speaks to deep seated insecurities in my opinion. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

 4. This guy publishes a lot.  Weak scholarship, poor research.  He's been passed over and is both screaming for attention and trying to pad his curriculum vitae, hoping for a spot in some lefty think tank.  If he didn't wear the same uniform as a hell of a lot of better men, I'd just ignore him.  Considering that he's using that uniform to push a viewpoint counter to the constitution, I'd like to see him forced to retire - or court martialed and thrown out on his arse.

 9.   Robert, you misinterpret what I am saying.  I have no problem with the baker following his beliefs to justify his actions.   I was referring to other people bringing in their religious views to either affirm or criticize the baker's actions.  It is best to leave religion out one's argument.   I do not like discrimination, but I support people's right to discriminate unless it infringes upon someone else's life, liberty, etc...  I just think that free people and the free markets can do a much better job of handling discrimination than the heavy hand of government.

 11. One thing I do know is that I should have stayed out of this thread.  My post, #141, has gotten me in the dog house with my girlfriend.  "I can't believe that you think people should have the right to discriminate."    I don't mind arguing/debating with you guys, I at least stand some chance of causing someone to rethink their position.  With my girlfriend, even if I win the argument, I still lose.  It makes no sense fighting battles you can't win.

 12. Folks, one of my most enjoyable hobbies is the making and smoking of Hams, Bacons and Sausages of all kinds. In the summer of 2012 I carried some Wild Boar Bacon to east TN for a TGO get together and thought a fight was going to break out over the last piece! It was fun! Those that have been following my posts on the other hunting threads know that I haven't hunted lately due to the cold and now ice. So, I have been manning the "smoke house" making Bacon, Buckboard Bacon and Canadian Bacon. I would like to share a few pics... Here's a few slabs... Canadian Bacon on the left and slab bacon on the right Final cuts ^ ^ ^ Bacon Buckboard Bacon Canadian Bacon Cooked for testing... And yes...it is freaking awesome!!!! Dave

 15. I use a Primos Blind Luck ground blind.  It is plenty large enough for 2 people and gear.  Keeps the rain off of you, conceals you well and it is easy to set up!  Make sure you have set one up before you plan on using it.  The first time I tried to set one up in my living room (not a primos) my dog left the room because of the things she heard me say!     http://www.cabelas.com/product/Primos-Blind-Luck-Hub-Blind/1370491.uts

 22. The idea of refusing to serve someone because of religious beliefs can lead to messy assumptions. In this case there was no hiding the fact that the cake purchasers were gay and the baker has religious objections to gay marriage. In most cases it's hard to know if someone is an adulterer, fornicator, child molester, thief, murderer, etc. His other potential customers don't walk in his door celebrating sins to which he has religious beliefs against and the occasion for his services isn't centered around a ceremony that he feels makes a mockery of what he likely views as a religious bond.    That's the problem I see with people claiming Christians pick and choose which sins they take a stance against. Most people don't advertise and/or celebrate their sins. I'm sure there are some here that would deny that he would refuse to make a "There is no God" cake for an atheist party or even a "God Hates Fags" cake for the Westboro Baptist Church idiots. I, for one, suspect he would.   The reason this comes to light with the gay community so often is because they don't recognize homosexuality as a sin and are so "in your face" about their lifestyle that it's impossible not to see.

 28. Well... lets think about this.    Attacking *anyone*  is probably insane (I use this term as a non shrink and actually as a person who does not believe in shinkery as a valid science), excluding self defense or defense of another.   Talking just going out to attack someone either out of boredom/meanness or to take their lunch money or whatever the "reason".   Thuggery, if you will.   I would even go so far as to label a thief (apart from stealing food, basic death vs survival type desperation) as mentally ill.    That would mean that everyone who goes on a shooting spree is, to some degree, mentally ill, logically.  I include here muggers and anyone who harms another person for any reason other than self defense.   If you accept *that* premise, then 99.99999999 % of "insane" (as defined above) idiots who attack other human beings were undiagnosed and untreated.   They either snapped or were "driven to it (whatever that means -- presumably environmental factors that cause a person to lose it)" or  are psychopathic (believe that their personal satisfaction is so important it justifies harm to others).     So, we have a 0.0000000000000001 % chance of actually detecting a mentally ill person who may someday in the future commit a violent act.    Therefore no law will have ANY effect on violent activity.    Therefore there is nothing to discuss until we can detect, diagnose, and cure mental illness reliably, which we cannot currently do.

 31. Here a pic from the stand a couple days before but I was in the exact same spot but the stand was rotated to my right a little bit yesterday. If you look at the very right side of the photo you can see the edge of a cedar thicket and she was standing about 10yds out of it when I made the shot. The pic is a bit distorted because of using the panoramic setting. and to give you an idea, the cedars she was standing near are 15' maybe 20' tall so I may have been a bit further above here than I thought. BTW the reason I hunt this particular spot is because it is one of the clearer portions in that particular area but there is briers and scrub brush cover most of this area but it doesn't really show up. I can't remember which photobucket link to use so i'll post both :pleased: http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn158/lukeduke_03/Treestandlocation.jpg

 37. The Chicago Museum of Science and Industry is a great one.  Every few years I head to DC and mostly for the Smithsonian museums; I usually reserve a day each for the two Air&Space facilities and a day for the Museum of American history and Natural History Museum. The zoo is a favorite stop as is Arlington National Cemetery, The Pentagon 911 memorial and Mount Vernon. Of course, I can't pass up the memorials either...Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, WW2, Vietnam and the others.  :)

 39. Oh and yesterday I took my little boy deer hunting for the first time. He's been saying "me go huntin with you" every time I put camo on for the last 2 months. I've had a cold and didn't figure I really need to be out in it. So as I was getting ready to leave I decided we'd all go and just sit in the truck overlooking a field and have a family hunting trip. Me, my wife, my son, and my daughter all got camo on and headed out. On the way there he decided he'd up his participation level and said "you let me shoot deer" I replied "dude you're 2, it ain't gonna happen. You're gonna have to wait a while on that" lol. We all sat and watched the field and ate pretzels and candy and looked through binoculars backwards. Nothing came out but we had fun. Right after we left the farm as we were coming through Gordonsville they were all lined up about to start their Christmas parade. So we figured we'd just ease into town and get out and watch that too. He saw Santa and had a even better day. So now my 2yo and 1yo have been hunting I guess.

 44. I just noticed this and I gotta say that is a bunch of crap. The Indiana State Supreme Court took the same position as you and the people of the state and it's legislature were so aghast they changed the law to clear up that but of unjustness. A badge doesn't make a person special and confer upon them power to violate other citizens' rights at will. Badge or no, if a person poses a danger to my family or myself, I will use whatever means I have available to me that I believe are appropriate. Even up to and including lethal force if required. When a government agent can do whatever they want and can't be resisted even if they are 100% wrong with the only recourse being after the fact appeals to a court structure that is biased towards their side we will fall into tyranny shortly after. Oh wait...

 45. I'd say that is a pretty broad brush you are painting with. Not all gay folks are driven by pushing an agenda just like not all blacks are saggy pantsed thugs and not all gun owners are inbred rednecks. There are actually some gay folks out there who don't have an agenda, they just want to be left alone to live their lives. Hell, I guarantee there are some gay folks that agree with you that this case was stupid and the couple should have just gone somewhere else and that the baker had the right to choose not to participate.
