1. Well if there's anything worse than a bully, its a group of bullies with authority.

 2. I get why this is silly, to make a rule that a kid can't carry a certain backpack because it makes him a target, but seriously; it does.  Where is the child's father on this?  I get that the kid's mommy doesn't understand the heartless nature of little boys, but the kid's dad should.  Of course other kids are going to pick on him, that is just reality.  I think this kid is in for a rough childhood if his parents are sending him out with "punch me/kick me" signs on.

I just wanted to take a second and suggest that anyone who can buy their ammo from David (dlm37015).  He is a great guy and usually has a posting in the classified section.  He sold me a brick of .22LR yesterday for $23.  You simply can't beat the price anywhere right now.  Go find him at the next show he's working and support a fellow forum member.

 5. This is "The Armadillo." He was my personal plush animal companion through three tours in Iraq. He has a scrapbook documenting his kidnap by terrorists and his escape in a pizza box. Of all the plush animals in the house, my wife insisted The Armadillo accompany me, as he was used to the heat and had his own body armor. After mutual adventures, we both survived unscathed.

 11. I am certainly against schools banning otherwise legal items and behaviors, however it does seem kind of creepy and unusual for a 9 year old boy to carry a backpack which most would associate with little girls. The same would be true if he decided to wear pink pants or a bow in his hair... not illegal and shouldn't be banned, but if the kid decides to do these things then he better "man up" and take what goes along with it. Not condoning bullying, which is clearly wrong, but kids that behave oddly or different than the rest are going to be treated by their peers a bit differently, same as in adult life. We shouldn't run to protect kids from every little thing in life, rather we should prepare them for responsible adulthood by helping them realize that there are choices and consequences. Now if this kid were handicapped in some way then it's totally understandable and he should be given the necessary slack, but if he's otherwise normal and healthy then it's time for him to toughen up a bit or behave in a more traditional manner until he is ready to brave being different.

 12. As a parent, when my kids were that young, I felt it was my responsibility to protect my kids from things. That includes their own bad decisions. No way I'd buy my 9 yr old son a My Little Pony backpack for school. Maybe that's mean, but I'm a pragmatist.   Admitting there is such a thing as a "trigger for bullying" is progress in my opinion. Come on, didn't we all grow up knowing how to minimize/avoid certain things?

 13. We share the same name, and I grew up watching him on tv.  When I was younger, I hated being called Mr. Rogers.  Now that I have gotten older, I have gained more respect for the man's accomplishments, and I realize how genuinely good natured and kind the man was.

 17. As of 8:00 PM this evening, I just completed my 11th day of being tobacco free.  It is all downhill at this point.   I gave up a 14 year smoking habit 11 years ago only to switch to a can to 1.5 cans per day of smokeless tobacco.  While I was going through some flu-like symptoms at the end of Feb, I told myself that there would be no better time to quit since I already felt like s***.  I finished my last dip on Feb 28 at 8:00 PM and haven't looked back since.

 18. OP didn't get the story quite right. Obama doesn't get to pick the recipients as others have pointed out, congress does.    "The presentation came after Congress in a 2002 defense bill ordered a review of thousands of war records to determine whether Latino and Jewish veterans were denied the nation’s highest military decoration because of discrimination."   But it is a little worse, OP makes it sound as though Obama is doing some white/black thing and injecting race. But what Obama said was a little different:   "This ceremony reminds us of one of the enduring qualities that makes America great," Obama said. "No nation is perfect. But here in America, we confront our imperfections and face a sometimes painful past, including the truth that some of these soldiers fought and died for a country that did not always see them as equal." Which is largely true. There are plenty of reasons not to like this particular president without making things up. Here's the worst thing of all: sure Lt. Garlin got the screwjob but a lot of people get the screwjob. Go through the list of recipients and pick out one or a dozen that didn't deserve the medal. In general I believe you should try to pull yourself up instead of dragging others down.

 20.
BTW, where is the defense of Lt. Conner? Where is Lt. Conners exception? He has dozens of high ranking people fighting for him and his widow. And has continously been told no. But when Obama wants to use the medal to pander, which is exactly what he has done, all he needs to do is select 24 people, push it through and use his pull. They did quite a few of these mass MoH ceremonies after the Civil War. Most were rescinded later when reviewed they showed no merit. That medal should not be used in any way as a political statement. That is exactly what the President has done. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2
Have your written your Congressman and military leadership regarding the oversight about Lt Conners? If so, what did they say? Also, have you been this passionate under the previous Presidential administrations and have you written the leadership for those periods of time as well? If so, what was their response? Perhaps, you should start a grassroots campaign for the defense of Lt. Conners and bring this issue to the forefront.

 25.
:wave:I ain't skurred. I live watching My Little Pony : Friendship Is Magic with my little girl. It is a great show that is full of a lot of good lessons. I'd go as far as to say that some folks here would be well served by watching and learning from it.
I have a daughter and read the My Little Pony books to her. I've also been known to be decorated with Sofia the First stickers and sing the song from Frozen to her when we FaceTime, and I'm not afraid of being made fun of by anyone who sees that. But I'm not a 9 year old. Anyone who doesn't try to empathize with the world a 9 year old boy must brave as he receives his position in the pecking order of a barely evolved troop of chimpanzees is allowing their own personal issues with societal norms and gender roles get in the way of common sense. Perhaps we'll live in a society soon where little boys can act like little girls and not be made fun of and be picked on by their peers, but until then it is doing great harm to your kid to use them as a social experiment to prove how progressive a parent you are. 37. The thing that needs to be remembered is that this started with the statement:   "This week 24 black veterans are being awarded, because exceptions were made for them. Their background is not even close to Lt. Conner."   An untrue statement. A statement that should tell  you about the rest of the posts. They weren;t  all black and if you got worried or offended that they were you need to check yourself.

 39. And some of you think legalizing marijuana will make it cheaper?? The state government will make your local dealer look cheap when you see what they will do with taxes if they legalize it. You have a product here that is doing some good and helping some people. But since use of the product it replaces is seen as a weakness, and will cause the state to lose tax money when smokers quit; tax the ever loving crap out of it. Being stupid should hurt.

 42.   Various of our current domestic animals have been selectively bred for 20,000 years or more to get to their current state. We'd only vaguely recognize a pig or cow from even as recent as 8,000 BCE. So "messing" with them is certainly nothing new.   - OS

 43.   Of course in TN there is no legal duty to retreat.  I understand what you meant, though, and I agree - especially the last part of the last sentence.  There may be no legal duty to retreat but in a public setting I think it is the common sense thing to do.  In my own home I would feel differently but in a public setting getting away and calling 911 (as in Caster's previous example) sounds a lot better to me than dealing with the legal aftermath of shooting someone, no matter how justified.  I'll deal with that aftermath if I have to in order to save my life or the life of someone about whom I care but better to avoid the whole shebang if I can.   Further, while some might not think this the 'upstanding' attitude, I do not carry a gun to protect society at large.  I carry a gun to protect myself and a core group of family/friends.  If I am in a crowded building with members of that core group and some maniac starts shooting, my 'job' and main concern is getting them (and me) out alive.  If the shooter is ten feet away then, yeah, my best bet is probably to try and take the shot.  If, however, he is on the other side of the restaurant/store/movie theater and my group is close to an exit then I am not going to risk shooting more innocent bystanders in the crossfire and draw the shooter's attention to my group by opening up from 25 yards or so away.  As you say, if I/we can retreat then that is what I/we will do.
