This. I think it's just part of the growing process. It definitely is different from when it was smaller and everyone knew everyone. Now it's hard to joke with folks or be humorously politically incorrect without people getting bent out of shape or taking things too seriously. There's are benefits and drawbacks to both, but I do miss the former.10 points

Harold Smith is on his deathbed, knows the end is near. His nurse, his wife, his daughter and 2 sons, are with him. So, he says to them: "Bernie, I want you to take the Mayfair houses." "Sybil, take the apartments over in Pall Mall ..." "Jamie, I want you to take the offices over in the City Centre." "Sarah, my dear wife, please take all the residential buildings on the banks of the Thames ..." The nurse is just blown away by all this, and as Harold slips away, she says , "Mrs. Smith, your husband must have been such a hard-working man to have accumulated all this property" Sarah replies, "Property? ... the asshole had a paper route!"6 points

Make them homemade from scratch like we do ! And I am not an old fart either . I have made my own biscuits all my life from scratch even when I was in my teens . My mom was and still is a great southern cook . And if you want , make extra that are raw and freeze them for a quick meal.5 points

We just got my wife a new car this weekend . She deserved it . We bought her last one 14 yrs ago new and she has been driving it the whole 14 years . So we went to find a new one. We had a great experience at Crest Honda in Nashville. No problems at all and the experience was great which is really rare for me when buying something so big like a new car. The salesman was cool and never hounded me at all. But at other dealerships that we went to were so so . Now this car is for my wife. She went to college and graduated later in life to be a teacher so she deserves something nice and besides her car was getting really old and she drives a good ways to school to teach and all. So I wanted her to pick what she wanted. I let her pick what she wanted. I wanted anything Japanese except Nissan. If it were up to me I'd have a Subaru with a longitudinal engine "layout" ( engine in regular placement and not sideways like a front-wheel drive) . She liked Subaru's but went with a Honda Accord. While looking at a different Honda dealership , the saleman asked me what I was looking under the car for and why I was doing this and that. I told him that when we buy a car we keep it for almost ever and I do all the maintenance so I needed to check the clearances and oil filter locations to see how hard it would be do change it and the belts and all. I then mentioned that I'd rather not have a front wheel drive car . He looked at me like I was crazy . He asked why and I explained my aggravation of transverse engines that are "sideways" with the belts and all being so hard to get to and replace. He then put on the " Honda commercial act" about how they hardly ever need work and this and that. I then told him that I still dont like front wheel drive cars and tranverse engines. He argued this and that and blah blah blah . I know they are there to sell a car that they have but dang , at least try to understand what the customer is saying. If I had it my way , my wife would be getting a Toyota Tacoma like mine with a FRAME and a longitudinal engine and rear-wheel drive with a 4WD option  So we went back to Crest Honda and my wife picked out her Honda . Crest Honda was really cool but the other places sucked butt. Ok I am off my soap box . :wave:4 points

I started hanging around again just recently, it's good to be back... and to know I was missed. My absence has nothing to do with TGO, was just a rough few years personally. I tell you who I miss, is Marswolf. Shannon was a good dude. As far as I'm concerned, he took a bullet for me.4 points

So here's my take on this whole thing.... :) Members come and go no matter if we're talking about forums, or Facebook, or car clubs, or churches, or pretty much anything made up of people. Why? Because people are inclined to change no matter how much they try to sell you on the idea that they are creatures of habit. It's just the way of life. Folks say they drift away because the forum "changed" and I say that forums change because vocal, frequent contributors drift away and are replaced by new, different, vocal frequent contributors. When the guard changes by natural attrition, the forum changes. That's only a bad thing if the new guard is made up of complete a-holes. I think we've managed to keep most of the a-holes at bay. Lately we cleaned house a bit and that seems to have made things better. ;)3 points

I once put a case of canned beer in the garage in the summer and forgot about it. A few days later I started hearing load bangs in the garage, so of course I locked and loaded to see what was going on. The cans exploded. Wife still reminds me about this when I hear noises, she says and I quote "sure you didn't leave the beer in the garage again". Keep in mind I haven't had a drink in 30 years!3 points

Bacon! It started out on the second shelf of the smoker but was moved to the top shelf so it could drip it's magical juices on the rest of the chicken, pork, rabbit, and hot dogs. Great Easter dinner3 points

Of course it would be a better round it’s faster. Surface area and mass mean nothing; only velocity. (New Physics) However, you should never carry anything that holds less than 25 20 17 15 rounds. 15 rounds of .50BMG is too heavy to carry around all day, especially if you have to swim during your evasive maneuvers.2 points

Sorry, I have to disagree with this statement. The cars of today are far superior to those of 30 years ago, in almost every way that matters. Corrosion resistance, gas mileage, power per cubic inch (or liter), reliability, handling and survivability in crashes are all much improved. Yes, the cars of today are technologically more complex, and many "shadetree" mechanics no longer have the tools or expertise to work on them, and the additional features and technology have made them more expensive, but virtually all parameters of a car's performance are in fact "better" than those manufactured in the past.2 points

Have you ever lived in a bad neighborhood where you didn't have an attached garage and had a work schedule that meant you got home after dark? I have. In fact, before I moved in there my grandmother had her purse stolen in broad daylight in the back yard - the same back yard I had to walk across when I got home from work. Before I had my HCP, with a crack house on the corner and drive-by shootings across the street (which, by the way, it took at least twenty minutes for LEO to respond to those shootings) it sure would have been nice to have been legally able to have my firearm in my car. Not to prevent a carjacking 'on the street', necessarily but to have for protection in case some low life decided I looked like a good target after arriving home one night (my great uncle and great aunt had their car stolen from that same back yard while they were eating Thanksgiving dinner with my grandmother - the cops found it stripped a few blocks away.) But, hey, if someone lives in a bad neighborhood and can't get an HCP either because they may not have $200 plus to spare or because they aren't yet 21, screw 'em. They deserve to get stabbed, robbed, beaten or shot, right? Have you ever gone fishing in a remote location? I have. There is a little public ramp/fishing area in Blaine, back off the beaten path. I was there one evening fishing, minding my own business, when a car with a couple of guys in it pulled in and parked at the other end of the gravel lot with their car facing me. No one got out and I didn't see any fishing poles, etc. sticking out of the windows or anything so I got a bad feeling. Tossed my fishing gear in the back of my truck and decided to leave. As I was crossing the parking lot, the car started and they attempted to block me from the little driveway that was the entrance and exit. Luckily, I learned to drive on gravel roads so I was able to just barely outmaneuver them (I was willing to ram them if necessary but that was no guarantee I would get out.) I have no idea why they pulled that stunt but, as that was also before I got my HCP, it sure would have been nice to have been able to have a loaded firearm in the vehicle. But, hey, incidences where you might need a gun just in your vehicle never happen, right? Wrong. Where I now live is very rural. Possibly remote, even, by some standards. There has been at least one body dumped under a bridge on a secondary road that I cross every day on the way to and from work. There are pull offs at both ends of that bridge where people pull off to fish and there are sometimes some pretty sketchy-looking characters there. Crime in the area is generally pretty low but it only takes getting killed once to pretty well ruin your day. With the constant rise in meth related crimes even rural areas where crime has traditionally been pretty low - maybe even especially rural areas - are not necessarily safe. To me, it would make perfect sense for a person to want to have a loaded firearm with them in their vehicle on such a commute even if they did not have an HCP and didn't want to carry everywhere. But, again, that doesn't fit with your world view so it must be stupid. Here is another aspect that no one is considering. Have you ever needed to go in some place where firearms are not allowed but had a non-HCP holding adult with you who decided to stay in the vehicle? Under the old law, that person could technically be in violation of the law if you left your loaded firearm in the vehicle with them. If I understand the way the car carry bill is written, under the new 'car carry' law (if Haslam signs it) they would have nothing to worry about. Yes, I prefer having my HCP and I prefer not having to leave a loaded firearm in my vehicle. That was one of the reasons many of us really wanted the law changed so we could keep our firearm on us when eating in a restaurant where alcohol is served. Still, I believe that having the option to keep a loaded firearm in the vehicle is preferable to not having any option for access to a loaded firearm outside of one's home, at all.2 points

Mike... Take a look at an old Guns Digest "Cartridges of the World".... The one i have is probably from the 70's....I think it will list some data and bullet weights for the broomhandle.... By the way; i think they are great!! A real piece of history... PS--- Googled this:http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?48262-30-Mauser-Load-Data probably a good place to start... Looks like your buddy needs to slug the barrel to see what size the bullets should be.... Hope this helps... leroy1 point
i hate car shopping. we have been looking for a new car also. it is so much a pain in the butt to deal with a car salesman. i also like to work on my own vehicles and we keep them until the wheels fall off. then i put them back on for a few more miles.
Here is the easy way: 1) Figure out what you want 2) look online to figure out what you're willing to pay 3) pre-secure financing with your bank if not paying cash 4) call dealers and tell them you want their best offer for model xxxx and you will be buying from the best quote. Insist they email you the offer 5) wait for emails to roll in 6) pick best offer I did this a couple years back for a new vehicle and found the best deal in chattanooga. So i hitched a ride on airport shuttle for $50 and saved a couple grand. Crazy part was the local dealer was owned by the se company as owned the chattanooga dealership but wouldnt price match their own store due to higher demand here in nashville due to the may flood1 point

I've done pretty good in the Wolftever Creek area. They move daily though. You just have to get out and find them every trip. I'll catch them in one location one day, go back and not catch anything there. They have been shallow though from 3 to 12 feet. I troll with a hair jig under a float usually set from 3 to 5 feet deep.1 point

That's on the individual though. If they don't want a permit then that is their business. I think we can look at other states which have permitless open carry and vehicle carry as examples of systems that work just fine. People still get permits who wish to travel out of state. Honestly, while I support Constitutional carry, I have no problem with keeping a permit system for the purpose of carrying in other states, and I support those other states to have their own laws governing carry. I don't live there so it isn't my business to say otherwise.1 point

You should know that if you use a firearm in justifiable self defense or defense of another, none of the weapons section penalties are applicable, permit or not, so that's a pretty moot point. Certainly, having a legal firearm in the car is a big benefit, same as in your domicile. Maybe you take a nap at a rest area or truck stop and get accosted, maybe you come to the defense of your spouse who is outside the car toting purchases, maybe any other reasonable circumstances nearby but not actually in the confines of your vehicle -- parking lots indeed are a large percentage of robberies, shootings, etc. . Point is, law abiding folks are much more likely to be able to respond to whatever arises nearby outside the vehicle when they can legally pack heat inside the vehicle, that's only logical. Same with your home. The castle doctrine does not give you the same presumption for deadly force outside the confines of your home, you are certainly fee to respond outside if circumstances dictate your reasonable fear of death or serious injury, something you couldn't do if you couldn't also keep loaded weapons inside the home. Yes, there's a minor difference, since you can pack heat anywhere on your property, but that is a technical one, as the rules regarding deadly force outside the domicile are the same as on the street. Yes, stepping outside your vehicle with a loaded gun and no permit could possibly get you a Class A, B, or C Misdemeanor conviction. It could also save your or another's life in justifiable self defense, with no charge at all. But risking conviction every day for simply having a loaded firearm in your vehicle is absurd, law abiding folks won't do it, and hence have no chance of saving that life. Being able to have loaded firearms inside your vehicle without a permit is indeed the biggest stride toward the intent of 2A in TN since carrying a firearm became a crime in the first place. - OS1 point
