1. Any report of child abuse should be taken seriously and investigated. On the other hand if the allegations are proven false those who filed the false report should be charged criminal as well as be forced to pay restitution for the damaged reputation.   Because he is a celebrity of sorts within the gun community they are going to run with this and shut him down.

 5. If the guy is being polite about it and all it may not hurt to meet up with him and check it out. If he is being loud and obnoxious about it i'd be less inclined to meet back up with him. Never know what may happen. Especially with guns involved. Unless there was ever any doubt something was wrong I'd end it with troubleshooting. I know most of my guns front to back though so a problem like that would be fairly easy to debunk.   I had a guy call me irate about a 12 gauge pump pistol grip shotty that I sold him. Wouldn't chamber a round he said. I knew it would and trouble shooted with him for 10 minutes or so. He called me everything under the sun but I wasn't going to give him his money back. For all I know he just robbed a bank with it....... He text me later on saying "he was trying 20 gauge shells in it....my bad."

 7. The sad thing in losing this member was that he actually had some useful stuff to contribute.  He through hiked the Appalachian Trail with what most would consider ultralight gear.  From my perspective, being able to hike 2000 miles with less than 20lbs. on your back gives you some wisdom that a lot of folks on here could benefit from.    I hope that he finds what he's looking for.

 8. I decided to try a few different things. This knife has three first for me. A stacked leather washer handle, a distal taper, and a bull horn pommel. The blade stills needs finish sanded, and the handle has a few rough spots to work out. So far I love the feel, and that distal taper makes it stupid fast in the hand. 10.5" 1095 distal tapered blade, stakced leather washer handle with mink oil finish, mild steel guard, bull horn pommel. I'm gonna enjoy this one

 10. If you don't want any attention while carrying, keep it concealed at all times. If you opt to carry in a manner which is partially or completely visible, then be prepared to receive attention periodically, most of which will not be positive or desired, and some of which may be quite dangerous. Legal or not, open carry is a bad idea. It should be legal everywhere and always, but practiced nowhere and never. If you feel otherwise then don't complain when you are the recipient of said "attention".

Just a few years ago these men took on the task of fighting the extremists alone, as we stepped back. Many of those dudes had experienced many years of war. Unlike me who was able to return to the states after a deployment, these men lived it everyday. They saw their buddies maimed and killed. Some of them had family members murdered, simply because they see related to a man in uniform. These people were no different than you or I. They just wanted to scrape out a living and raise a family. Now many if them are dead. Not much we can do for those brave dudes in the Sunni Arab sector, but we can help the Kurds, Yazidis and Assyrians. No reason not to. They are not our enemy, yet they are being slaughtered by our enemy. Let's lob some bombs and help them out a bit if we can. I realize those folks me nothing to you, but they mean something to somebody, and they don't deserve what is happening to them. These are the type of people I joined to help. I fought along side these people, and they risked their life for me and I for them. Now they are desperate, and no one is willing to help them.

 13. If you don't care about innocent people than you don't care; that's your choice and your right.   For me, I'm thankful that there are people who do care about others...those are the kinds that become police officers, fire fighters, soldiers and doctors and nurses. Personally, I have had periods in my life when I didn't care much for other human beings but I found it to be a pretty empty existence.   The U.S. can't change the world but if we aren't willing to help innocent populations when it's within our power to do so then what the hell good are we?

 16. Pretty interesting read what Cabelas did: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2014/08/daniel-zimmerman/st-louis-cabelas-protects-guns-rioters/ St. Louis Cabela’s Protects Guns From Looters By Dan Zimmerman on August 11, 2014 Here’s a TTAG Eyewitness News report from our local correspondent, Dirk Diggler, who sent these phone pics. After last night’s looting in nearby Ferguson, Missouri, the St. Louis Cabela’s store (which is located about five miles west of Ferguson in nearby Hazelwood) has taken precautions to protect its firearms inventory. The store is located in a large shopping center called the St. Louis Outlet Mall. Dirk reports that every entrance to the mall has at least one squad car on prominent display and there are policemen posted both at Cabela’s front door and inside the store . . . There are only long guns on display, safely behind the counter. All handguns have been removed from the glass display cases to protect against flash mob-style smash-and-grab attempts. Specific firearms customers want to see are brought out one at a time from storage off the sales floor. The usually accessible racks of long guns leading toward the gun library have been emptied. And access to the more valuable firearms in the gun library is now blocked by a wall of gun safes that have been moved into position to block the doors. Dirk reported that Cabela’s staff didn’t know when things would return to normal. He was told that the gun counter is “under orders” to operate this way until further notice. Whether those orders came from Cabela’s headquarters or the local police wasn’t clear.

Hell, I did when I was single. Upgrading to a home and nice things isn't selling out. Every person had to change a little for the person we love. Otherwise I'd have crappy furniture and eating chili dogs and ramen noodles nonstop with a chaser of PBR. I changed some of my ways not because I sold out. I just value the wants and desires of my wife more than my own. Thinking that your needs are more important than having a meaningful relationship is a technique, but you'll miss out on a lot.
Before we got married my wife would hardly even come inside my apartment unless it was to clean that crack dump. I have absolutely zero desire to return to that. Once you've tasted steak it's hard to go back to spam.

 21. I purchased a used gun, then sold it to buy something else before putting a single round through it. The person I bought it from claimed it functioned perfectly, so I had no reason to believe otherwise.   Shortly after selling it to a young guy, I received a nasty email. The gun did not function, and he assumed I was aware of this before selling it.  The manufacturer quit making this gun several years ago, so the parts weren't plentiful or cheap. I searched the interwebs until I found the parts. After paying roughly $70 for the parts, I delivered them to the young man's house, installed them, and ensured the gun functioned properly.   The $70 loss really sucked, but I felt it was the right thing to do in my situation.

 26. Do what you think is right, and be done.  Be warned I have seen buyers remorse before, guy buys a gun, and shoots it, doesn't like it or his buddies shame him with his trade/purchase, and then he comes up with a lame excuse, it doesn't work.  My recommendation, work with the guy within reason, but that is all.

 28. Open vs Concealed carry, blah blah blah; you do what you want to do.  Some people just don't understand how to mind their own damned business when they go out and about, and want to make sure you're aware of their opinion.  I'm still amazed to know that someone actually carries using one of those versacarry things.

 30. Can only speculate until all the details are investigated. I will say from personal experience that some people can be very vindictive and will fabricate and stretch the truth in order to get revenge against others... I am no fan of the series, but hope for his and the child's sake that the allegations are proven to be false...

I know one thing for sure though; that idiot would still be alive if he'd stayed his stupid butt in the car.

 34. I don't have any problems with contrarian views on things. While AB28's most recent posts would have been better in their own thread - as opposed to junking up someone else's - as a staff we have zero issue with contrarian views. And frankly, we encourage those debates so long as they're civil and the participants are willing to bring more to the conversation than rote talking points. AB28's last two posts were racist in a way that was so over the top that I have to believe it was intentionally provocative. I don't think anyone of my generation uses that language without knowing exactly what they're doing. We strive to create community here. As a general rule, I think we do a pretty good job, and our members are just as responsible as the staff for creating that. We will have no tolerance for racist language. It makes me sad if you feel that in your own life, but to be clear, if you express that language here you're gone. Period.

 40.   I have talked to him,  interviewed him once myself.  I know he is wound tight and a ferocious competitor.  He treated me respectfully. He has done a ton for motorsports.  Unfortunately this will overshadow all of that.  Ward Jr. caused this.

 41. I don't see this as Smoke's fault.  Ward Jr caused his own death.  I doubt this is the first time a hothead has been hit on a track either.   If it did not involve Stewart I doubt many of us would even know it happened.  He will not run at Watkins Glen.   It is a real shame and tragedy.  My condolences go out to Ward Jr's loved one's.

 43.
Not negative at all, was just stating alternatives. Don't know why I waste my time though, minimalism is "too out there" for most people. They are stuck in the normal way things have always been done, and won't even consider that there is a better way to live. Tech is one way of helping minimalism, I don't have to own books or stacks of CDs because I can store it all on a laptop. You have no idea what a true minimalist is, so don't speak of things you know nothing about. I was pretty nice so far, but you seem to be the one with the attitude.
Nope, no idea what being a minimalist is. I have a wife, 4 kids, and 2 dogs and live happily in 300 sqft. But apparently I don't know what negative is. Obviously, negative is not telling someone that a factory job sucks, he will have serious medical issues, and better to live under a bridge than work in a factory (I would have preferred to quote each of your posts saying this but tapatalk doesn't allow for multi quoting). Any way. I'm done with you or to quote Mr. Wonderful "you're dead to me" Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

 44. Him and his wife are probably the most damaging people to gun owners. The both of them, and the Brady Campaign, are responsible for more damage than anyone else. Not in their legislation but in them pushing that guns, and gun owners, are a bad thing to the public. Had he died from his wounds that day we would have been in a better place today. I have zero sympathy for him, his wife or anyone who supports their agenda.   I heard on the news this morning the left are going to try to use his death to renew interest in a nationwide ban on assault weapons. They are saying that a ban on assault weapons would be fitting way to honor him.

 45. I personally like a tent that has a screened porch/vestibule over the door. This allows you to store your gear, boots, etc and gives a buffer between your entryway and the outside. I also like a tent that is tall enough to stand up in and has good ventilation. This can all be had in a relatively small tent without breaking the bank. Mine's an old 9'x11'(?) Coleman that I use for small camping trips. Put down a ground cloth and have a rain fly handy, and most tents will do the job around here. When I go out west, I take my better tent though. This is the type I prefer, but I can't seem to find one any cheaper at the moment http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/68612?page=king-pine-6-person-hd-dome-tent
