Why are these not more popular ,does not our military buy and use FN products ? FNs striker fired pistol is everything a handgun owner would want and then some ! Comes in nice case made and with 3 14 round mags ! Intelligent discussion of topics concerning police officers/agencies and their failings and wrongdoings, even those that get heated, are perfectly all right, even desirable. I'm a 28 year retired cop and I welcome honest examination of the police service.    But when the rap sheet crowd comes out of the internet woodwork and starts throwing around BS accusations, derisive names, and their sick version of propriety, proper respect for all the dead cops in cemeteries says it's time to back off and start asking some questions instead of racing to the "Like" icon. Have any of you guys ever wondered about the motivation of really devoted internet cop bashers? Huh? OK, who hates cops most? Answer: Those who have examined the wrong side of a jail cell door, and I would remind you that there's no background check required to join an internet gun forum, either. So when you see a load of out and out hatred and derision being expressed by the cop bashers, you might just want to wonder if their parole officers know what the devil they're doing on a gun forum. You'll never convince me that the devoted internet cop bashers haven't been around the criminal justice pike a time or two, and these guys invariably poison a really good discussion. I guess this is where I'm supposed t say "end of rant."

Just got this picture from my dad. He works for the Anderson County Road Dept. And got called out to cut a tree that fell across the road. This is what he found when he got there. 6 dump truck loads just for the trunk. It was a monster. I figured some of you guys would find this interesting. He 5'11" for reference

As many of you know, the new Bass Pro Shop located in the old Pyramid in downtown memphis opened this weekend.  The media and city have been pushing this full tilt treating it as the greatest thing to happen since Elvis.  Normally, you couldn't drag me to downtown memphis. There has never been a show, event, ball game, etc that I've ever considered worth that kind of hassle. I haven't been down there in at least 10 years or more.  However, things just sort of fell into place so that for this, so I figured oh, what the hell.  Not the least of which were that a friend had given me a Bass Pro gift card for my birthday and I'm a curious, retired old fart with nothing better to do.  :shrug: Being an early riser anyway, I figured I'd beat the traffic and get there before the doors opened. The store opens at 8:00 am, I got there at 7:15. To my surprise, there was already a long line at the door stretching out into the parking lot. BTW: today was the first day of actual business and they were giving free gift cards to the first 200 people. I just barely made the cut and got a $5 card. When the doors opened at 8:00, there must have been 300-400 people in line.    I must say the place is impressive. Its big, but not quite as big as I thought it would be. For some reason I thought the pyramid was bigger than it actually is. I will add that it is much bigger than your average sporting goods store.  The decor is basicly rustic swamp. This is one of the points the media has been focusing on in efforts to push the place as a tourist attraction. It really does make for a nice outdoorsey feel. I liked it. In the middle of the main floor there's a sort of large, 2 or 3 foot deep pond that branches off in several directions. There are bridges that cross it a various point so that you can get to other parts of the store. This pond is stocked with live fish and were interesting to watch. There is also a very large aquarium which takes up a sizable section of the back wall.  Scattered about the place are many scenes featuring an assortment of stuffed animals. Deer, bear, boar and a bunch of smaller critters decorate the entire store.  One of the things that tickled me was all the wide eyed city types Ooing and Ahing all this stuff like they're never seen a live fish or a real blade of grass before.  :shake: Now the media has been focusing on the decor of the place and promoting it as a tourist attraction. While it is interesting and nice to look at, the plain fact remains that this is a STORE. The decorations only make up 10 maybe 15% of the place. Everything else is shelves and racks of merchandise just like any other store. In that respect, the place is still impressive. Just about anything a hunter, fisherman, camper or outdoorsman could ever want can be found here. Although I think the prices are a little high. But if you want it, they got it. One of the things that also prompted me to go there today was I was hoping to use my birthday gift card to score some of the ever elusive and pricey .22 ammo. I figured that this opening was such a big deal that they would probably have some. I was right. They currently have a large supply and selection of .22 bulk packs from Winchester, CCI, Remington and Federal. Some brands very reasonably priced and others not so good. But it was going fast and even with the amount they had on display, I really don't see it lasting through the weekend. One disappointment I had was that I did want to take that much vaunted elevator up to the observation deck and check out the view. However, that cost $10 per person and there were already too many people in line willing to pay the price for me to even consider it.  :-\   Conclusions: Pros: As a store the place is quite impressive. The selection of merchandise is absolutely outstanding.  The decor is both pleasing and interesting. I liked it. Cons: Downtown memphis is probably the worst possible location they could have chosen. The traffic is awful. I also believe that the majority of  the customer base for Bass Pro live in other sections of town much too far away to make regular shopping there practical. The prices are just a little high for my tastes.  While the place is interesting to see, I seriously doubt it will ever become the big tourist attraction so many people think it will.  Frankly, with so much working against it, I suspect that in two, maybe three years, the store will be forced to close.   As for myself. I went, I saw, satisfied my curiosity and I did enjoy it. However, I seriously doubt I will ever go back. as i said in the beginning, I really hate going to downtown memphis.

Regardless of what happened, the 1st amendment explicitly provides for 'the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances'". Anything above the "peaceably" part is criminal and should be treated as such.

Great gun and well worth $200, but friends don't let friends move to New York.

Well since I got a Glock 29 for my birthday, I needed a new holster. I've had great luck with some cheeper kydex eBay holsters so here's my newest one. Came from Badger Concealment. His store is badgerconcealment663. It came usps in about four days. I have to say I love it. With the beefy slide Glocks I like a kydex holster. It is nice and snug and fits the gun perfect. I've had trouble finding holsters I like because I'm a larger fellow. It makes the gun sit a little low, and I like that. Hides it perfect and even works for my 26. All in all great little holster and good quality. I'll buy another for sure.

As some of you know, I just turned 18 with 22 years experience last week. Got my blood results back today and lets say they are better then when I was 25.   Since Christmas I have drop 40 pounds, 3 inches off my waist.(second year in a row lost 3 inches).   The biggest change I made was since Feb 23 to April 22 I had ZERO fast food.   I cooked most of my meals at home and was pretty careful on what I eat.  Allot of homemade chili if you aren't from Texas as it did have beans.   My Total Cholesterol  went from 168 to 110.  My LDL was about 55.  (don't have the paper in front of me) My Triglycerides went from 271 last year to 91.    I was floored when I saw that 110.  I remembered joking with him at the office that I had made big changes and I would be hurt if I hadn't got down to 150.       During my visit my doctor had said the main thing he would like to see my Triglyceride and weight to come down.  He still would like to see my drop 80 pounds.  I am going to try.  This has been an eye opener.   With the fit bit I have been much more active but that only started about a week before my doctor's visit so I know that wasn't a big factor.    I really believe it was the avoiding fast food for 2 months made that big of a difference.  I intend to keep that up with the new walking.   I had been over 300 cholesterol about 5 years ago, diet and exercise then got me to 230. Then I  taking some cholesterol medicine for the past 2 or 3 years.  That was only getting me from about 230 to the 170 range.    I also remember in my 20's I was always around 200, (fast food) but years ago anything under 200 was considered fine, now I think they want closer to 100.

There really is nothing new under the sun.    Civil unrest has gone through evolutions in tactics and techniques, but from the first Jewish-Roman war, to the American Revolution, to the events we've seen in our country in '65 and today, history teaches us civil unrest is usually derived from a population that feels oppressed, and finally reaches the breaking point.   For my money, a major part of all this is directly tied to the economy, employment and opportunity.    A lot of jobs have been lost to free trade and globalization over the last generation.  Those jobs were low skill, yet economically stable enough to provide a home if someone put in an honest days work.  Replacing a good paying factory job with minimum wage shifts at McDonald's has to put in a healthy amount of discontent.   Employed people don't riot without damn good cause.  When there are only so many ways out of the bad situations a lot of our citizens find themselves in...taking to the streets doesn't seem like a bad option.  We've shipped away jobs to the 3rd world, and replaced it with expanded welfare to try and make up the difference.  How's that working out for us?       There are plenty of us don't need a God to hold ourselves to standards, morals, principles, scruples and ethics.

Stainless. There is a reason it costs more. Same reason people pay more for it.

So, I'm far from a Titans fan, but I do like to see them do well since it's a positive for the community.   But drafting Mariota?  I really don't see any large benefit over Mettenberger that justify using the #2 pick on him.  I think the Titans front office were hoping for the kings ransom for that pick, and seriously misjudged their environment.   Here's hoping they draft some good offensive lineman...otherwise no matter if it's Mariota or Mettenberger taking snaps, Titans QB is still going to be the most dangerous job in Tennessee.

Good for you!  I'll be having that same birthday of significance fairly soon.  I'm quite sure my blood work won't be better than it was 15 years ago, but hopefully it'll be better than it was last year.  Your cholestrol numbers are quite good.  Mine got as high as 248 but it's come down to just over 200 for the last couple years.  I've been watching my diet, exercising regularly this year, and have lost a few pounds.  I'm hoping to break the 200 mark this year.  Getting back to regular exercise certainly has helped me generally feel better. 

  You miss the point. In many ways it doesn't matter even if everything was handled properly in this case. The history has set the scene. I'm not justifying anything but on the flipside, I think that standing around asking "So why are people so upset before the facts come out?" is a bit disingenuous also.   "Sow the wind" and all that...   Edit: And now the officers are being charged with murder which is quite possibly unwarranted. This is what a lax attitude to "bad apples" brings you.

Thanks guys.  He didn't have a permit, so its never been carried.  He got it for the home cause his wife could handle it.   He said I shot it once, it works.  He was headed to the pawn shop with it, got there at 5 and they were closed. He stopped over to say bye and that he was leaving Sunday.  He said I'd like to get 200 for it. I told him he wouldn't get squat for it at the pawn, I might be interested so he left it with me to look over.  Doesn't look like its ever been fired.   Lucky me.   :yum:

$200 is a great deal.  these guns are accurate, reliable and great value.  get it while you can.

FN stuff certainly should be good. They have manufactured one of the world's priemier military/police pistols since 1935 - the FN P35, known in this country as the Browning Hi Power. Congrats on finding a gun you're so satisfied with. That's a habit with FN owners. Diet and increased activity will certainly make a difference to be sure. I completely agree on fast food increasing weight and cholesterol levels. You've really made a significant diet and life style change and are to be commended for it.

Two really important questions you'd have to answer before you could get some real advice here:   1)  How much will you have to spend on a house / pay for rent? 2)  Do you have kids to put in school?   A couple of other things:   1)Nolensville is 20 minutes from EVERYTHING.  Need something from Home Depot?  20 minutes.  Want to take the wife shopping?  20 minutes.  Unless you want gas or BBQ, it's 20 minutes.  Everyone I know that has moved there thinking they were buying Williamson County on a budget has regretted it.      2) Fairview- see above.  ;)

A stick to dig in with on your downstream side helps a lot too. A necessity if the water is really rollin'.

Top can be from pretty much any year while bottom is late production. You want the top release becuase there is not a lot of support for the bottom release. Also, the bottom release tends to be the Accustock which uses a funky recoil lug that is not supported too much either. And if you end up with an Accustock gun NEVER remove it from the stock. They do some sort of witch doctor voodoo to make the shoot great but once you loosen the bolts the accuracy goes to hell unless you are a voodoo witch doctor. One of the best ways to tell the modern version is they have a cocking indicator in the back of the bolt. The BEST action to use to hild off of is the Stevens 200. It does not have the fluff and buff of the other versions so it is "as machined" and tends to be a lot better mechanically even if they are not visually as good. The Stevens 200 is identical to any Savage 10/110 and take any Savage part.

  I really think the Tacoma is the best "all purpose" truck out there.  Not too small, and not too big, with a great longevity to them.  The only thing stopping me from owning one is that my current truck (a Ford Ranger) just won't die, and I refuse to buy a new vehicle without a need to.

Sounds like a later model Tacoma with a 4 cylinder would fit the bill. The older ones have smaller cabs but I owned a newer single cab not too long ago with plenty of room. I'm 6'2" and was never uncomfortable. They are pricey though. Usually as much if not more than a like model Chevy or Ford.

As he walked down a darkish hallway he tripped over a GI who was laying on the floor sleeping. Not knowing who had just kicked him, the Private on the floor yelled: Hey!   People of color make up a much higher percentage of the prison population per capita than whites. Is that due to "profiling" and "racism", or just a reflection of the fact that they indeed do commit a disproportionate percentage of the crime?   If so, then obviously our prison population should at least double, so that white crime is more realistically reflected? Or that black/Hispanic crime should go unenforced to match the rate of non-enforcement of white crime?   Muslims are reported to commit a much higher rate of domestic and worldwide terrorism than all the other religions combined. Is that a reflection of the bias of both the US and the rest of the world?   Just suggesting that perhaps not all seemingly "racist" disproportionate stats are necessarily thus.   If you wanted to get the police in trouble, and yourself off the hook, how would you go about it?    Me, I'd bash my face against the side of the van so there are gashes, bumps, or even a broken nose for my booking photo.  I certainly wouldn't try to give myself a severed spine, which could kill me, and I wouldn't even know how to go about it if I wanted that option.       Or they are dangeling a plea bargain or dismissial of the charges in his face for saying he thinks Gray intentionally was trying to injure himself.  I'm just not trusting a leaked story by the BPD that tries to move the spotlight from their investigation.

I really wish the police wouldn't release the address of the home that was broken into.  The last thing someone in that situation should want to worry about is someone coming to avenge their friend or family member.

  Situations not really comparable IMO.   - It is unlawful to carry a loaded firearm in public in TN.  Most can pay for the privilege to carry a handgun openly or concealed. It is unlawful to carry a loaded long gun in public in TN period.   - In TX, most can pay for the privilege to carry a handgun, but concealed only.  They wanted unlicensed open carry of handguns. Since it is not unlawful there to carry loaded long guns in public, they used that to highlight the issue.   - OS

That's the problem, people are willing to pay .10 or more a round. As long as they do, other people will buy up as much  .22LR  as they can and sell it to them and double their money. What doesn't get resold gets hoarded. Nothing new here, it's been going on for over 2 years all over the country. Plus you had people caught flat footed when this all started and they went from 1 brick of .22's in their safe too 20 or more bricks, so they won't be caught short again. Just my :2cents:
