I have heard that different instructors teach different things, so to clear it up, you DO NOT have a duty to inform a police officer that you are carrying when they make contact with you. I do, but only because I hope it will buy me goodwill that might get me out of a speeding ticket. Success rate is around 80% so far, so I'm gonna keep doing it.   If you didn't come from another state where you had a carry permit, you will probably find yourself touching your gun a lot to make sure it's still there/in place. This will pass as you carry more.   Carry enough that get used to doing so, but never complacent. You don't want to find yourself staring down a rookie cop's AR/M16 because you carried somewhere you shouldn't. It happens.   Fly with your guns. Once you've done it a couple of times, it's no big deal. Different airports will handle it slightly differently, but within the same legal context. For example, some airports will have the TSA agent come to the ticket counter to do their thing, and others will have you escort the bag and agent to a room where they do their thing. Just budget a little extra time for it and you'll be fine.   In Tennessee, but not all states, "No guns" signs carry the weight of law, meaning don't enter while carrying. Most of the time if you do and are discovered, you'll simply be asked to leave and that will be the end of it. If the cops are called, they do have the right to cite you for something. I've never been in the situation so I don't know for what.   Practice your draw deliberately leaving your booger hook off the bang switch. Make this as natural as moving your foot from the gas to the brake pedal in your car. Don't ever, ever let yourself get into the habit of drawing with your finger on the trigger or you'll end up like ole Tex Grebner. (Search for him on YouTube if you don't know who he is.)   Above all, stay safe and keep your head on a swivel. Don't go looking for trouble, but be prepared should it come looking for you. There are surely more tips, but I don't want to hurt my puny little brain trying to think of them all.

I do have an issue with it's removal because of its' historical significance. We can't continue to remove where we came from in the interest of pop culture and political correctness.

Well, I'm going to gather that you're talking about me. You don't know me at all, or you would know I'm certainly not "stuck up." (Man, that's a dated phrase. Do people still say that?)   Why shave the finger grooves off? Just get a Gen 2, and that's already done.   I have been a professional musician for 41 years. I have seen many guys get an instrument, and then start changing all kinds of things. Pickups, keys, pegs, etc. I always wondered why in hell did they buy it in the first place if they didn't like it? That's like dating a tall, skinny brunette and wishing she'd put on a few pounds, buy flat shoes and dye her hair blond.   I never bought an instrument in my life that didn't sound and feel exactly like I wanted it to in the first place. I never wanted them to "get a new one out of the back." I wanted the ONE I liked.   "I've done and had done the exact modifications he is asking for.  They enhance the capability of the weapon system." Have you considered submitting a resume to Glock? I'm not being an ass; I'm serious. If you can make a company's product better, why not try to go to work for them, and introduce your ideas?

I heard that. That's one thing I try to watch closely... don't like making folks angry. A few weeks ago I was just playing close attention to where my 10MM was landing, and surveying the area after every couple mags as the stuff was often landing 3-4 lanes away. One dude got mad saying I was taking his 45. I grinned and showed him my handful of hot 10. He picked one up, looked at it and sheepishly said "Oh, sorry!... Here." He went through the little pile he was collecting and handed my a few of MY 10s he had snagged! Haha! We were cool after that and I pushed his brass towards him, and he watched closely for any more of my 10. :-)

Smart move by Barrett. The gun store was really just a notion at first, taking space in a convenience store they owned, and repurposing it for gun sales. At first they still had both operations running plus the restaurant! It grew quickly and they ditched the gas and c-store and restaurant quickly to create more room the gun shop. It was a brilliant example of the power of capitalism - taking an asset and raising it to a higher value. Now they recognize that it can be more but is taking their time away from their core business, so its sold - and both parties will benefit And no one from the government was needed to create this wealth God Bless America

Leg traps are cruel and sadistic.  I despise them. I'll even step on a few toes here by saying, I have no respect for people who use them.  Get mad if ya'll want but killing an animal is one thing, torturing it is something altogether different. I'm all for dispatching the animals if they are posing a threat but have the common courtesy and respect for the animal to not torture it and put it down swiftly and humanely.  Cage traps may frighten the animal a bit but they don't cause pain.  The animal can be easily put down with a .22 to the head without opening the trap.     Remember, they are JUST animals.  They're doing what animals do.  How would YOU like to have your ankle broken and sit there bleeding and in pain until someone came along to put you down?  People seem to demonize these animals like they have malicious intent against you.  They may be vicious and go after their next meal with tenacity.  They may kill your beloved pet and that would break my heart and certainly motivate me to kill the animals responsible but they don't have the cognitive abilities of a human.  They aren't motivated by evil like a human, only hunger and dominance.  Why people personify them as anything more than a simple animal doing what animals do is beyond me.     If they are a problem, kill them.  Wipe them out if that's what it takes to make your pets, livestock and children safe but for the love of God have don't torture the things.

I'm a lefty, but do lots of stuff right handed. Out of the knives mentioned (and I own most of them), the Delica and Endura are true ambi knives because of the lockback and Spydie hole.   I carry my knives like a righty. I own a number of Protechs, and they're really designed for right handed folks. MOST of my knives were designed for righties. All the frame locks and liner locks (including the Sebenza). Spyderco Native, Endura, Delica, and Police don't care which hand you use. I'm a big Delica/Endura fan.

I grew up in the late 60's and 70's watching the Dukes, listening to Charlie Daniels with a rebel flag on the album cover, seeing it at NASCAR races and remembering no one, white or black getting all that bent out of shape about it. Now I don't "know" how it feels but I guess I can understand why some black Americans who grew up in the south during the 50's and 60's would view it offensive, maybe bringing up bad memories of being harrassed or threatened, assualted and just treated horribly, maybe had the flag shoved in their face so I personally wont display one but I seriously doubt the motivation of many who do or did in the past was to promote racism, I just can't see Charlie Daniels or the Duke boys as raging racists. I think the attitude was better back in the 70's and 80's somewhat, most people white and black didn't waste their time and energy caring all that much about the rebel flag and could even joke somewhat about silly stereotypes in movies and TV shows. Think they could make Blazing Saddles today? Or even some TV shows like Sandford And Son, one of my favorites, or the Jeffersons. Some people today are trying to force their political ideology on others by labeling them racist and phobes ect., thinking that will magically make them see the world the way they do, all that's doing is pissing them off going in a step backwards.

8 rounds... 38sp, 357mag, or moonclipped 9mm ? I doubt they'd be able to keep those on the shelves.

I primarily use scrounged range brass for handloading. But I only scrounge abandoned range brass....I mean stuff left at the range that will otherwise get stomped into the dirt if I don't pick it up. I realize that handloaders are a minority...but I look at brass lying abandoned on the ground as money left lying there. Being that I work for a living I appreciate that donation to my limited funds. :pleased:   But I could never understand someone trying to take another person's property...i.e. brass belonging to someone else. I was raised better than that.   I don't shoot at public indoor ranges at this time. I would imagine that could get confusing, a downright PIA at times. I consider myself lucky for being able to avoid that.   I too consider my time as an investment, and value my time. But even factoring that in, since we started casting and PC'ing our own, we still save significantly...and therefore shoot significantly more without suffering pangs of guilt. :up:  ( "we" as in a group of us that share the time and labor.)

What? The 1969 Charger? Of course the orginal GL was an R/T IIRC and a lot of the GL clones we see are rebuilt and customized Chargers with a lot of the R/T upgrades installed after the fact. Your right about the surrealistic feeing of knowing first hand about a car from its inception, long before a silly TV show. Of course I was all about Camero's and Firebirds at that time, not that silly MOPAR stuff LOL.

I hope this post doesn't make me a easy target, I've been hunted before, and I'm not that hard to find.  I don't use it much anymore, but I have a power wheelchair.  I put some ole truck fog lights on the front.  The back has an led strip light for a truck runner.  To help be seen I've always flew an American Flag on a pole just high enough to get inside a normal door.  I put a blue Florissant light about a foot long right at the star cluster on the pole.  I'm pretty hard to miss unless your texting A$$hole. Anyway, I can't walk far without dying in this heat.  I jump in my chair and when I hit Enon Springs,  Folks thought I was bringing up the rear of of that protest, and started honking horns at me.   I thought about going up on that hill above the protestors and sitting for a bit to watch the action.  Then I thought better of it, because if a bunch of crazies came by that group and opened fire... Lordy.   EDIT :  SPD had a unit sitting in the parking lot at the strip mall next to them.   Now my picture is in a FBI folder for going down there to take a picture, and I'm already on another watch list.  I made my first list for taking pictures of a prison in Morgan County, Tn. as I drove by.  Thats why I can't get anyone to friend me on TGO.  I'm too hot. hehe.

I have one on my 16" 300 Blk, its not a bad scope for the price but not in love with the reticle.  I thought it would be less intrusive but those little circles are a bit distracting to me.  Much better to have a simple mildot type reticle which you can calibrate to the 300 Blk.  On the upside, you can pick out those circles quite well and rather quickly, if you know your targets range you can usually put it right in the bulls eye with little effort.    The BDC is over rated IMHO, while its great if you shoot the same exact round combo (if you reload) or same commercial round, but its harder to switch from light to heavy rounds at the range or in the field.  The BDC only has a few reference points, (4 I think) so a 110 grain bullet will not line up if you have the BDC ranged for say a 120 grain or heavier bullet.  With more reference lines, its possible to get closer to a reference line with each weight so without changing settings on the turret.  While some shooters mess with their turrets to get on the bull, I seldom change settings, I instead use hold over (Kentucky windage) to get on target, but that's just me.  I zero at 100 (hunting) or 36/50 yards (HD) and hold over if my target is at a different distance.

You are inviting trouble when you are out and Scott intoxicated and carrying a gun. Since we all have a different definition of the word "couple" a good rule of thumb would be to stay home after you pop the top. I knew a fella that was involved in a SD shooting while highly intoxicated, things did not go well for him legally. Basically he perceived the guy that he shot at as a threat when he wasn't, had he been sober there would have been no altercation. I believe that it would be irresponsible to propose that it's ever appropriate to mix guns and alcohol.

Yes you can be charge with DUI without a breathalyzer or blood test. Happens all the time people refuse to take the test and get charged with the refusal also. The .08 BAC limit is a presumptive level where the law assumes you are impaired. You can be DUI with under that level but typically you see someone who is hammered with a low BAC or has drugs in their system along with it.   To the OP there is no limit on how much alcohol you can have in your system and be in possession of a handgun. Any is illegal along with any controlled substances. If you are grown you take your own chances. I prefer to drink my occasional beer at the house away from all the idiots out and about.

Yes, by all means, the Greenbriar Guns & Leather is a must see location. If you have the time for a bit of travel.   Without doing a mapquest search, I'm going to say that from The Lipscomb area, this shop is very close to 30 miles and about that in time from you.   both locations are really good, but the rebuilt Greenbriar store is great! Good selection and layout. Very friendly and helpful people. (Not that Hendersonville G&L is any less fun to visit, just a smaller inventory there.)

It is a very believable scenario. After reading it I would be surprised that something like it is not in the works.

Standing on the side of the road out of traffic, flying a flag that is disappearing from stores under pressure and being removed from availability on license plates and dropped from battlefields isn't acting an ass. Acting an ass was in Ferguson and Baltimore with smaller reenactments daily in most big cities. A week ago these flags were spotted here and there and nobody noticed them, but now it's being attacked as if it was one of the bullets in the church. Not only are people attacking it, govt and businesses are acting against it so fast it's head spinning. With the lack of confederate flags in Chicago and its peaceful utopia , it's obvious that hiding it and removing it will make the country better :down:

I've seen several pickups in the last few days driving around with great big confederate flags flying from their beds. They'll fare well here in Lafayette, but let them go into the the wrong neighborhood in another town, and the race war Obama wants is on.   I don't wish to see it, but it's gonna happen shortly.

I'll admit, I'm a j-frame fan. I love the simplicity and reliability. After several thousand rounds of practice, i feel confident in handling and firing this platform. But--i just fell in love again this weekend.... I have a 637 (chief special) that i picked up off a fellow member a this winter. Since the hammer is exposed, i carry this one IWB/OWB most of the time. Given the method of carry, i figured i could get away with something larger than the factory boot grip. I ordered these Hogue Monogrips last week and i couldn't be happier. Accuracy improved drastically and i didn't give up much--if anything--in concealability. In addition to that, i think it looks much better (in my opinion) So i say all that to say this; if you've considered aftermarket grips for your j-frame--do it!
