  1. From Facebook with his permission ... So I was robbed at gun point and driven all over this God forsaken country and I just said just go ahead and shoot me you piece of ×××× before I kill your whole family. Miraculously I was thrown out of the car with my backpack. I would just like to thank my company for screwing up my flights and landing me in the worse place on earth. He is ok , just a little pissed , good thing he did not have a Protech handy ... :)

  2. No, you're not misunderstanding me at all.  The only third party I'm actively going to protect is my better half. Not much of an issue since I am rarely if ever in public.  BUT, the world needn't ask me to ever choose between a crowd of people and my wife cause it'll be her....every time.  I don't care how many fall behind us.       If there were a scenario where she was safe and I could take a clean shot at some murdering nut, yeah, I probably would but I'd have to feel VERY confident in her safety first, as well as mine because I'm pretty much all she has and she's CERTAINLY all I have.  Wouldn't hesitate to die for her but wouldn't jeopardize myself only to leave her behind and alone.

  5. You avoid this situation by minding your own.  You and yours. Sound selfish?  Ohh well.  My gun's for me and my wife.  Everyone else gets a 911 call as I'm redlining the engine in the opposite direction.     As with everything in life, that's not set in stone and decisions will be made on a case by case basis as they present themselves.  Just a general rule of thumb.

I am just glad he got the Protech knives in the mail before he left.  It would have sucked if something had happened and we didn't get our knives..... :hiding:                                                           Just kidding of course.  Glad you are ok.  Have a safe trip home. 12. I liked the judges remarks at the trial. At sentencing, Jared was crying about how his wife and kids would never be able to get over the situation. The judge told him, you gave your wife 7 million in the divorce, she'll be fine.

  13. I love me some Pappy, but for the price its Christmas bourbon...some nights you just have to slum it. Chicken is on the big green egg, fire is going, cigar is lit, and music is playing. Unfortunately my kid pooped in the tub so I chose to say I needed to "monitor the grill" and slum it with a garage pour of Wild Turkey and diet coke as opposed to risking going inside for some of the good stuff. 17. I really enjoyed the bottle of Pappy 15 I had.  Hype be damned, I liked it a lot.  I would buy another if I could walk in pay and not have to hound anyone, I really hate asking repeatedly for stuff, and then they have to be the gate keeper of who gets some and who doesn't.  I hate more than anything that Elmer T Lee isn't on the shelves now, that was one of the best buys period, and no one cared until he died, now its like a unicorn.  I quit asking for it, I got a bottle about a year ago and haven't opened it yet, but its not long for this world.  Time to drink it and find something else good.

  18. So, if you want the absolute best single stage reloading press, the Forster Co-Ax is it.  The only issue with it is is doesn't come in a kit.     I know we have a lot of Lee fans on this site, but I am not one of them.  Their press is ok, but for me their other components in a kit are junk (again, just my opinion).     For a kit, and quality in general, I personally recommend RCBS.  It will last forever and they have great service.    They will all get the job done, but I don't know anyone disappointed in the RCBS set.  Quality ammo is a bit subjective to each person, but for me, a Turret press cannot product the same level of quality and consistency that a single stage can.  And as mentioned, in single stages, the Co-Ax is tops.   Lots of good options out there these days.

  19.   This is the simple truth.  Pappy is not worth the money nor the hassle.  It has become legendary only due to it's controlled limit quantity nature.

  25. I understand that.   Jacks aren't meant to hold weight. You jack it up, and you put the stands under it, then you remove tension on the jack. Thus only the stands are holding weight. You keep the jack in an approximate position, but it doesn't hold any weight.  You don't continue to use the jacks once it is on the stands. As you found out, that is asking for trouble.

  31. At no time do I ever claim to be a saint. Really. And if you knew me 6 years ago you'd have hated me like any other Michigander that I read about on here. I was so unaware of guns, gun rights, gun safety and anything else related to them. However, that's not the point at hand. I was out today, mailing something and all of a sudden I lost control of my vehicle. Now Sequoias do have a few known issues but this one was new to me. I somehow ended up at our FAVORITE local gun shop in Livingston. Which is a bit from our house so it's still a mystery as to how my vehicle ended up there. :ugh: I do remember oddly talking with Monkey last night about adding some things to the collection and working on beefing up our ammo. So maybe the Sequoia just heard that convo? I dunno... but somehow I ended up with these: A Gen 4 Glock 20 And this beauty, a Gen 3 Glock 21sf with Nickel Boron Slide Now, if I ever lied to you and told you that I am sad about somehow ending up at the gun store, well I'd never forgive myself. But I did however fib to a certain Monkey when he called me. It was almost as if he could sense something was going on. Well I told him I wouldn't be able to meet him for lunch because I was tied up mailing letters. He called me back a few minutes later and told him I was busy checking out at the Food Lion in Livingston and I would be to his work shortly. As my wonderful, awesome and helpful sales clerk was helping me finish my transaction Monkey called a last time and said "Food Lion in Livingston? Umm... yea, tell Anthony hi for me." Well shoot. The gig was up. DANG IT. But once I ran by his work and he saw what I grabbed, he was very OK with it from what I could tell. I don't think he even remotely expected it because we had talked about going next week but that pesky Sequoia had other plans.. I also picked up a lot of awesome ammo while there. I cannot say enough about the guys at The Livingston Gun Shop and Trading Post. Except that once they know your weaknesses, they try really hard to get you to leave with as many items as possible. There was talk of Monkey possibly needing to take my keys away.. LOL I however blame it on the items I have been reading about on here lately. LOL Either way, we have 2 new family members and I love them A LOT.

For my tastes the best 2 "on the shelf bourbons" are Elijah Craig 12 yr (although the age statement has moved to the back of the bottle) and Blanton's. If I had to pick one, Blanton's every day. 34.   I use Lee for pistol and blaster ammo, Hornady for 458 SOCOM, and Redding competition dies for my precision rifle stuff (with an exception). My Grendel loads are compressed, and the Redding Competition seater is too whimpy to do compressed loads. Voids their warranty. So, I seat Grendel with a Forster competition die. Of course, my precision loads are done on the coax, since the pussy Redding stuff won't seat compressed loads :).

  35.   How does the President come into this?  College students have been protesting for dumb reasons since at least your generation.  What we're seeing today isn't something new when you break it down.       I can tell you. :)   You have to look at the scope of things to understand how the revenue vs. expenditures thing goes.  I'm more familiar with MTSU since I go here and work here, but since you talked about UT, we'll stay there.  Thing to remember about UT is it's the entire system, not just Knoxville.  For budgeting purposes, they break out the different schools, but have a total budget number.   With athletics, the money is coming in, no doubt...but it's also going out at roughly an equal rate.  The biggest thing they want is for the athletic program to at least pay for itself, and that means the whole athletic department, not just football.  Problem is, the schools have all the different sports programs, and let's face it, only football and basketball are money makers for college athletics.  That means they are subsidizing soccer, track, tennis, golf, and all the other sports the schools operate at a net loss for men and women, because of Title IX.   So, this is UT's proposed budget for FY 2016, realistically, we have to look at the data for FY 2014 since that's the only year in the document that has been audited.  Skip to page 33 in the .pdf/ page 30 in the document, and you will see the layout for athletics.  Very easy to see that UT Knoxville is was slightly in the red for FY 2014, but only by what amounts to a rounding error in the overall budget when you remember that for UT, their annual budget is in the $1.2/1.3 Billion with a B, dollar range.  Not out of the norm for large budgets that run in a three year cycle like that.    As to what else is at play here...   1)  There is a somewhat funny "color of money" shell game being played for tuition.  The school actually factors in the money coming from the athletes as they would for any other tuition/enrollment under the line item for that early in the budget, but since the athletes are on some form of scholarship (football is allowed 85 players out of 105 roster slots being on full scholarship, to include room, board, and food...not sure about the other sports) that money comes out of the athletic department's budget, and as you can see, the item marked "Student Aid" comes out to  ~15% being gone just so those kids can go to class (when the do...lol) and have a dorm room.  But I find it funny because it's the university paying the university in the end in a circular method.   2)  Salaries and Benefits:  I know people will look at that and scream bloody murder about coaches salaries and those are a noticeable chunk of that part.  But that line item is also the paycheck, health insurance, Social Security/Medicare contributions that UT is on the hook for as an employer.  Take that and compare it against all the people that make up the entire athletic department from the equipment staff, to the trainers, to the administrative people who work in the compliance office (paperwork with the NCAA), and all the rest.  A lot of employees you never see on game day contribute to getting it done, and as most people in business know, salaries and benefits are always a large part of the budget.   3)  Travel seems high until you realize that is the airfare (chartered flights), hotel rooms, per diem (for employees), and cost to move all the team equipment from point A to point B and back for away games (usually an 18 wheeler truck).  Also, the team "travels" for home games, bringing everybody suiting up on game day to a hotel the afternoon before so they can make sure they eat the proper nutritional meals, get enough sleep, and are ready to play the next day.  So, even home games have a travel budget.   So, that's where the money goes...crazy, huh?

  36. I love the look of the Skinner, but having to change to a taller front is a pain. Working out what height you need is a lesson in trigonometry I could've lived without. I've got a Williams on my current 336a & I really like the adjustability & ease of mounting. Plus, Murphy being the sumbitch he is, if I knock, break or otherwise screw it into a cocked hat, it's 2 screws to whip it off & I've still got the originals to fall back on.

  39.   Damn.  We're going through this right now too, Todd.  After the Dobie had to be put down a month ago due to kidney disease, our last Boston (and the best dog of the whole bunch - hands down) is literally dying of what we figure is a broken heart.  She has all but stopped eating and refuses to, barfs up anything she does eat, and is slowly getting to the point where she won't drink.  The vet said that they couldn't find anything wrong with her, but she's wasting away.   We've been trying to get the local GSD rescue to return emails as we're highly interested in adopting one of their dogs, but these people just have gone completely radio-silent on us.  It's really aggravating.   Regardless, we may have to make the hard decision this weekend to go ahead and put the Boston down.  She's hardly got any strength left at this point.

I just don't get how a child of that age can go missing.  There is no way in hell I let my granddaughter out of my sight in crowds, in fact she has to hold someone's hand when walking and sits between us when we get to where we are going.  I am not trying to lay blame on the parents or anything but I do get amazed that everyone is not more attentive with their kids.  I realize that this was one of those small town areas where probably nothing happens but still.

  44. I also am not a fan of the .380.  I would rather have a 9mm or a .small 38 spl. I have a S&W Mdl 38 Air Weight Bodyguard that goes where ever I go.   Harvey's Pistol and Pawn was running a special on S&W Shields in 9mm and 40S&W for $329 last week.  They also had full size and compact M&P's in 9mm, 40S&W and .45ACP for $379 of you bought it that day.  They also do lay-a-way, for up to 10 months, as long as you pay 10% down and 10% a month.   A little double stack 9mm that I love is a Taurus PT111 Millennium G2 (not the Pro).  I've had mine for over a year now and it's ran flawlessly since I got it (over 500 rounds now).  You can get these for $199 at several places around East Tennessee.   I realized I was rude in not welcoming you to our site and o our fair state.  Welcome to both and welcome to a bit more freedom than you experienced in the People's Republic of New York!  We could still improve somethings in this state when it comes to freedom, but I think we are on the right road! :)

  45.   Thanks Jonin, yes, I'm very hesitant to 'pull the trigger' and buy anything. So far I am noticing various qualities to different guns that I like, and the local store's staff here is pretty good (I liked the trigger on the Ruger, but the LCP felt too small... Here, try this Springfield!) Frankly, I haven't found one I really like just yet.   There's quite a few competing demands I'm trying to balance out... and maybe I'm placing importance on factors that I shouldn't be?   My wife and I are both going to acquire personal carry pieces, and I'm trying to keep them from the same manuf.... thinking ease of parts/tools, cleaning, accessories, etc., will be improved (*but by all means, correct me if that assumption is false*) It's not a given, I may go w/ a Springfield 9 while she gets a Ruger .380... but I like the M&P line also, and the Bodyguard model would fit her needs... and I do like the single-stack M&P Compact? I liked the Springfields I've tried, but she said she doesn't like the 9's, too much for her.   I want(ed) to stay in the same caliber as my wife, so that we can buy bulk, reload, etc., cheaper and more easily. Again, please correct me if that assumption is off target. That being said, I agree w/ the above statement about a common police/military caliber (Jonin, you were in on that rifle discussion...), and may decide to carry a 9 for myself. I doubt I'll explore the larger sizes, 9's got more than enough BANG for me.   IMO - and I raise my hand and admit I'm a newbie here - I think quality ammo in .380 is capable of ruining some perp's day, and I can play w/ it all day long at the range. I can find a variety of small guns that conceal easily and are quality instruments that will go bang when someone pulls the trigger. I've been able to narrow things down fairly well, and am trying to find sample guns to try (even dry-firing @ the showroom tells you a lot - especially the trigger!). I was kinda disappointed a week ago, talking w/ another fellow who was @ the range trying out his brandy-new LCP, mentioned my wife was thinking of buying one but wanted to try it first (pointed, mentioned that she was in the next stall over w/ the Glock42). He said he wasn't very pleased w/ it, but it was his first time out, packed up his stuff, and walked away... D'oh! Was hoping he'd offer my wife a few rounds, dang! Is it rude to come right out and ask "Hey, can I take a few shots w/ your gun?", I don't know proper range etiquette? Is that like asking to dance w/ someone's wife?   Waiting for membership papers from the local outdoor's man's club. Hoping if I spend some time prowling the pistol range, I'll get to try a few other makes and models, and can make a more informed decision. Wifey's itching to get something, anything... but she understands a 400-dollar mistake isn't in our best interest right now. So far the Ruger is the only one she's really liked, but we haven't fired it (not avail. for rent, only 6 rnds of try-before-buy), but I think the .380 Bodyguard from S&W would appeal to her too (also avail try-before-buy), and then I would be looking at the M&P line for my own, likely the compact-9. However I'm not going to force myself into a particular pistol if I don't like it... I'm a lot more flexible than she is, so trying to accommodate her needs first.   'Course the way things have been going, SHE'LL be the one itching for a 'collection'. Gawd, I'm so glad I married her sometimes!   - K

  47. I'd have to second TN-popo's recommendation. FMJ and frequent practice. Doc Robert's compilation of data on handgun rounds and their actual use is an outstanding resource.   Doc Robert's keeps a running thread and interaction on another site. Here's a link to his discussion and info on .380 vs .38 spl...I know that's not what you asked, but his info on .380 in that discussion also recommends FMJ loads. It appears there just isn't any .380 rounds in current production that consistently render adequate penetration and expansion. Like Doc Roberts said:       " We all want expansion, we need penetration"...and reliability. very redundant link LOL :https://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?4336-BUG-s-380-ACP-vs-38-Sp

  48. That's what I use in mine. There are several schools of thoughts on using FMJ ammo rather than hollow ammo in order to get more penetration through thicker clothing in the winter time since the 380 is marginal in power.
