Went to my first Daytona 500 41 years ago when I was 9. Was able to get autographs from all the greats, Richard Petty, Cale Yarborough, David Pearson, Bobby and Donnie Allison and many others. Loved the sport and always went to several races every year. The past few years NASCAR has slowly lost me. I believe it started when Earnhardt died. I will DVR and watch the 500 today because it's in my DNA but probably wont watch much the rest of the year. Heck watching the truck race and couldn't believe the "we are going to throw a caution if we go green for 20 minutes" rule. Just not the same IMHO.

  I never liked the S&W BG enough to want to buy one, especially after shooting one and comparing it to a KT P3AT and Ruger LCP. So for those small pocket carry pistol occasions I just stick with the LCP. But once I finish my weight loss program and buy new clothes some deep pocket trousers are on my to buy list. Then it's going to be a G-43 and SA  SDs .45 3.3 for seasonal pocket carry rotation. Fourteen more pounds to go! 

  Just to throw in my unsolicited 2 cents worth...   One of our group was looking to purchase a slimmed down 9mm, so we assembled an XDs, my Shield and a G43 so he could try them out. He shot them all well...but ultimately choose the G43. Quite subjectively, he simply liked the "feel" of the 43 better.Mind you, that particular 43 did have Taran Tactical mag extensions on it.   I shot that particular 43 a few times and it is nice. I personally prefer the trigger on my Shield. But all three were quite easy to run, and run accurately.   No one says you can't have both hipower. :pleased:

I was about to join a local indoor range a few years back. While the paperwork was being done for my wife and I, I walked over and looked out on the range where a couple of people were shooting. They had the place setup so that the brass would almost always go forward onto the range which was inaccessible. The guy said we were ready to sign the application and as I walked back to the counter I asked about the brass being thrown outwards so it couldn't be retrieved. He said "yeah, we keep all of the brass. We have a couple of places that buy it from us. I tore the application in two and said that was a deal breaker for me and we left. I haven't been back to that place for anything.

I just picked up my Pistol Thursday evening when I got home, I installed Talon grips, a pierce plug and TGO David was kind enough to instal my TruGlo TFO sights, I just shot it for the first time. 5 Magazines of Hornady Critical Duty and I absolutely love this little Glock! very accurate and a great trigger for such a compact pistol, I am very happy with my purchase

Couldn't resist any longer. Did a lot of reading and research on the internet, asked about it on the forum here, found a Sig p226 Legion at a local gun store at a very competitive price (still higher than any other gun I've EVER bought - thankfully got some gun funds for Christmas), and pulled the trigger this afternoon. If it shoots as good as I think it looks and feels, I'll be very, very satisfied.

My job has me on the road everyday dealing with a-holes behind the wheel. Not once has it ever crossed my mind to stop one of them and give them what for. What the hell are people thinking these days ???

I'll jump in here and ramble because I have been there done that.  My wife and I began doing the "Dave Ramsey" plan before there was a Dave Ramsey Plan.  Kudos to Ramsey though for what he says makes sense and he learned it the hard way.  One big thing, and I mean "BIG" thing is you and your spouse together must be committed to the end goal and have self-discipline.  Financial discipline is not for the faint of heart.  You must be willing to tell yourself no when you see, want and think you must have the new shiny.  When we financed our last house we asked for a printout of the amortization chart.  Each month we used highliters and paid each standard payment and then added up the next 4 to five months principle only amounts and added that.  This essentially shaved off 4 to 5 months of the mortgage each month.  It gets harder as the principle amounts grow and near the end we could only swing one extra month of principle.  We also applied lump sums as available such as tax returns.  We had a 15 yr. note we paid off in 3.5 years, and no we were not making a lot of money.  Lower middle class at the time.  Drove used cars we paid for in full at purchase and I did all my own home and auto repairs.  We were completely debt free for about 10 years with 800 plus fico scores.   We sold out and elected to bank a chunk and bought our current home with half down.  We had two kids at the time which we did not have going into the other house.  It took us 5 years to pay off a 15 year note in the same fashion a few years back.  We maintain an emergency fund, have two kids in college (that hurts) are debt free and have been for a good while.  23 % of my gross goes to 401k stable value until the market corrects from the unsupported highs it is currently riding.  When / if the market corrects and gets realistic I will dump into funds for growth. Still have 800 plus fico scores and still drive used vehicles and do my own repairs.  Dad always said, "Son, you can make a lot of repairs for the cost of one car payment".  In the beginning I had a work supervisor tell me I was "not smart" for paying extra on my first house.  He felt it was smarter to use the mortgage interest as a tax deduction.  He filed for bankruptcy the very next year.  I've never had enough deductions to justify itemizing.

I've always been a huge racing fan. Was involved with dirt car racing for a long time and loved nascar pre-2001. After Earnhardt's death, nascar started to change its image and destroyed the racing in the interest of safety. Now you've just got a bunch of clean-cut, corporate puppets driving cookie-cutter race cars. It's not about who's the best driver or who can build the fastest car anymore. Now any car on the track can win if they are in the right place at the right time and get in a line that can push them to the front. That's just not racing to me. I'm going to watch some of the race today, but I'm sure the racing will be boring and I'll probably grab a nap about 50 laps in. I'm really surprised nascar still has the popularity that it does. It's lost a tremendous amount of its southern fan base. Sponsors are dropping like flies and aren't putting the money into a sport that isn't bringing the return that it used to. If nascar lasts another 10 years in its current form I will be fooled.

  Can't help but to think politically these days, it's tragic and sad and right now i'm sure for the families that the motives don't matter. As soon as I heard about it I thought about how fast Obama will jump on this for an opportunity to spew his anti-gun politics. I know it's sad to think that way but it's the reality of the times and rest assured that we will hear from Obama today about it. Well not we, as soon as I see his face on TV he gets the auto mute button from me. And I do feel bad for the families, I can't know how that feels, I and all of us have lost someone before, we know how it feels but the shock of a loved being murdered in a senseless way by some lowlife psycho is a feeling I don't know and of course hope never know.

Well I finished it up tonight. That SLR handguard is NICE. It's super light and easy to install. You don't have to line up anything for the gas tube so just torque to spec and slap it on there....simple. You don't need any special tools either. The only thing that was disappointing is that it does not come with rail sections like most other handguards. I'll have to buy some for my bipod because I don't have any for keymod. I checked headspace and all is well. Installed and timed the brake It weighs just over 8lbs sans optic and suppressor. Didn't weight it with optic because I'll be changing it. I just threw a 3-9x nikon on it for the time being. The only thing left to do is install a dust cover and bipod. I may get a range report tomorrow if the rain holds off. French was accused of using a toilet lid to attack the officer. He then stole the officer's gun and shot at her but the gun did not go off.   Investigators say the gun didn't go off because there was no bullet in the chamber, but it did have a loaded magazine when French took it.   O'Briant said the officer was injured and taken to U.T. Medical Center. She was released Friday night with staples in her head but no concussion.   Investigators followed multiple leads overnight to locate the missing teen

The issue with night hunting as I see it is too many idiots who will have no idea what is behind where they are shooting. With Coons and Possom, they are using shotguns so less of a chance of issues with what's behind it. The reg to a baiting site is 250 yards. Personally I feel if you have to bait, you aren't hunting. I have similar views about trapping (realizing it is legal) in snares. I think that is pretty shitty, but I know many do it.

When Dale Earnhardt died a piece of NASCAR died. My son was a Earnhardt nut and he spent 4 grand on a Dale Earnhardt  Mac Tool Box and keeps it covered in a corner of the shop all covered up with a Dale Earhart logo on the cover. He bought the box 3 years before Dales death and about a year after Dale died he had a guy offer him 8 Grand for it and he called me and ask me if I thought he should sell it and I said it's not eating anything and it can only go up in value as long as Dale Junior is still racing and keeping the name in front of fans.   I told him when the offers went 10 grand or more sell it cash only. I also told him to add that box value to the Shop Keepers Insurance policy as a collectors Item and he insured it for $10,000.00.   Now as far as NASCAR to this day and will be a fan till the day I die. I spent 14 years racing at Nashville Speedway, Smyrna Speedway and Highland Rim and once in a while in Birmingham. I still have the feel of Burnt Rubber and hot gear oil in my veins Most all my friends are Gordon, Johnson, Earnhardt, Legano Fans. My driver has been Rowdy Kyle Busch ever since the first time I saw him drive and I knew he would be a champion one day but didn't expect it to be last year after his injury at Daytona. When NASCAR offered him that deal that he could still race his way in and he won his first race back and it was a road course with all that shifting with those sore legs I knew right then he was going for the gld and he brought the gold home.   Now as far as cookie cutter cars that's all the Auto manufacturers are giving them to work with. It's not NASCAR, it's the lack of skill in the designing at the Auto Makers. I was a mechanic for almost 35 years and I could tell you what make and model a car was from 1/4 mile away back years ago. Today, unless I', parked next to it and can read the name on it I have no clue what it is. I listen to police everyday say that the bad guy got a way in a black car, possibly a Chevy Malibu, or Toyota Camry but it might have been a Honda Accord. They cannot tell them apart any more either.   Like I said I will be a die hard fan till they are shoveling dirt in my face and Kyle and maybe even Kurt will be my two drivers. They both drive like a Young Dale Sr. did that earned him the name "The Intimidator"  Kyle was not afraid to use his bumper from time to time on slower cars after he would bump them a few times letting them know he was faster.     Now that is one place that NASCAR has hurt the sport. It use to be "Rubbing was racing!" Now if you rub a little to much your parked for a few weeks. To me that's a crock...........................jmho

Some of you will remember that years ago they had those contests where the winner would get to go in a store and they could keep whatever they could put in the shopping cart in a certain amount of time. Well, the guy on the left in the pic below looks something like I would if I won such a contest for my favorite gun store.

  At my uncle's track (actually my cousin, he was just older than me so it was more like an uncle) we had 1 rule - you could fight until the police broke it up, but if you did fight it had to be in the front straight so the fans could watch it too.  We would milk the hell out of that stuff from the tower... And drunk rednecks on a dirt track = fight almost every Saturday.

Never get tired of watching this clip. I was in Daytona that year and the whole place was nuts.  Those words and those drivers of that era made NASCAR.  Most would have raced regardless of a payday.

Fair enough. I, on the other hand, enjoy the show at least partly - maybe even largely - because it IS based on a comic. It is every bit as much a 'comic book' show as Batman, Superman, The Avengers and so on are comic book movies. To me, part of the fun is in comparing the show to the comics and discussing the similarities and differences. In fact, if not for having read some of the comics I may well have given up on the show, already, during some of its slower or stupider moments - which tend to occur when they stray furthest from the basic comics storyline.

  Good commentary, kidd. This I think is pretty much the same reasoning for most of us.   I found the site when a past, now banned(He who must not be named) friend of mine told me of it. I was doing chemotherapy at the time and it gave me something to do each day.   I would read all the threads while hooked up to the IV drips, and it helped take my mind off the waiting.   I found I was pretty much in synch with the people here, so after sharing in the goodness for quite some time, I did become a Benefactor Member.   Gotta admit it did have a lot to do with wanting to have a semi-trustworthy(lol) audience to buy, trade and sell with; but it was also payback for all the time and help I had received from the people here.   I've met quite a few of our members, made friends, several really god ones, and had a wonderful time doing it all.   So the benefits are many, the drawbacks almost non-existant, and TGO David gets a little payback for all the work...and frustration I'm sure; that he has put into this.   Yeah...it's more than worth the cost. I urge all you who can to do so.   (Ok, bossman...when do I get paid for this glowing endorsement? lol)

Ive owned close to 15 different Glocks and havent had a bad mag yet. Hell - I blew up a 165gr 9mm I double charged in my Glock 19 last week and it shot the mag out without any damage...didnt really hurt anything other than my hand Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk

We have a couple poppers from Innovative and they are solid. Construction is good and all the welds/joints have held up well. Plus they are made here in Tn.

Oustide of Prentice Cooper, we have four additional ranges in Chattanooga. First is Chattanooga Rifle Club. I don't believe you can shoot there unless you are accompanied by a member. Second is Sportsman Supply in Hixson. It is a private indoor range, and you won't be able to shoot there unless you are accompanied by a guest. Third is Shooter's Depot. I am not sure what their rules are in regards to nonmembers. I think they might let you shoot, but they are expensive to nonmembers. Lastly is Carter's Shooting Supply on 58 Hwy. It is a 23 yard indoor range, and I believe Carter's will let you shoot there without being a member. However, I think you will have to buy your target and ammo from him. If you think about going to Carter's, you might want to call ahead of time and see if they are having a HCP class. In a nutshell, your best bet for very cheap shooting is Prentice Cooper.
