  2. I wish everyone her the happiest of Christmas Seasons! I hope you all are surrounded by family and friends this year. May it be the merriest and best for all. But please take the time to say a prayer for those less fortunate than we are; those serving this nation and it's people I all the areas around the world. My God Bless and keep safe all our service men and women everywhere. Also remember those serving here at home. The police, fire, EMTs, all emergency responders, and all our medical persons. Each and every one deserves a prayer from us for their dedication to helping others. Please remember those who have lost someone recently. The brightness of this family season is dimmed by their absence. Please remember the homeless and the poor. The shelters for our people need love and donations. I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't supported as fully this year as in the past, but has been a financial struggle for us this year, as I'm sure may can attest to for themselves as well. Pray for those with family in hospitals and care facilities, sadly my family falls into that category this year. And lastly, for 2 groups close to my heart. All the veterans of the wars in this nation. Thank and pray for them daily. We need more support for them. The second group is for our family friends, companions, protectors, and just plain pets. Thank God for them all. They provide unconditional love and friendship. More than many get from family and friends at times. Please donate to care facilities for our animal friends. Rescue when you can. Give homes to strays. Do what you can. Hopefully, I have covered all I intended here this morning . Getting a little misty eyed. Must be the dusty little room I'm in. Finally...Merry Christmas to all.

  6. While it is legal for one between the ages of 18 and 21 to have a loaded handgun in their vehicle, I wouldn't advise it. I've found that many police thrive on intimidating minors, and most know very little about law. My son and I have recently had this discussion.

  7. Here's the way I look at this: The HPA, if it even happens, is going to be at least a year or two out. If it does pass, hopefully manufacturers will have ramped up their production schedules ahead of it and stocked up enough to keep supply channels flowing, otherwise we will see a pretty serious shortage on the front end of the HPA's sunrise. If you want a suppressor sooner than 2-3 years from now and have the means to do it, I would go ahead. There is really no guarantee that the HPA will become reality anyway.

  15. Actually it's the other way around and that's the problem. The majority of lawmakers are not lawyers and have no idea how statutes should be written so as to avoid ambiguities and multiple interpretations. And this is why you don't ask for legal advice on the internet. Ignorant.

  17. I can't tell you how much i enjoy this event every year. I've never been disappointed! This year, i got a box full of great gifts. Inside this (large) box, scattered among numerous other fantastic gifts, I found a nondescript thumb drive. I plugged this bad box into my computer and I now have the users manual to about every damn gun ever made. Beyond that, I've got 30-40 books on different guns, gunsmithing, shooting and about anything else you could imagine. I can now service and maintain many of my older (inherited) firearms in my collection. Before this gift, i didn't have the manuals. I can't thank my Santa enough. I hope you Christmas is filled with joy. (P.S.-Santa, shoot me a private message. I would love to thank you in person one day.) Pictures or it didn't happen.................

  18. Great choice! You can also say you have a full-power 40cal Plus, I've read you can shoot 40s&w just fine from a glock20. I've never tried it, and I'm sure it's not officially recommended but just putting that out there.

  23. I have deer hunted for over 30 years (most of those in LA and MS) and until 2 years ago, never saw a yote while deer hunting. This year, I shot one with my bow and another with my rifle. Have y'all shot many this year? I recently had two does under my stand feeding and I saw this yote walk out 200 yards away, spot the deer and then charged them running wide open. He came flying by me and I did not have a good shot and he chased the deer off in a thicket. About 3 minutes later he messed up and walked back out on the edge of the field and the 7mm-08 barked. It was the first kill with a brand new rifle. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  24. CZ75. For range use, large, steel frame for recoil mitigation. Good grips for easy and comfortable hold. Both combine to make a long shooting session much more comfortable. I own both Glocks and CZs. I find my Glocks sitting home more and more these days. Too many other pistols that are more fun to shoot and look better. Not dissing the Glocks. I still have one for carry and one for home hideyout gun. But in the interests of total truth, my carry Glock has taken a back seat to a Shield.

  31. I saw this linked off of Drudge when I got in from work last evening. It is a definite possibly that this segment of our population may well gain a positive, and more self reliant (leaning towards conservatism), insight by doing this, albeit unintentional. Once you lessen your dependence on "systems" of support, like .gov, you gain more actual freedom, along with the peace of mind inherent in this lifestyle. Their initial rationale is of course flawed imho, but hopefully the end point of their journey may prove positive for all involved. A good point brought up is that with Trump being elected some, maybe many in the Prepper Community may have been lulled into a false sense of security. As has been mentioned here on TGO many times and in many ways...Trump's election may only be a brief reprieve...very brief. There is absolutely no reason to ease up or think things will go sunshine and roses...just as there isn't a reason to lock yourself up in a bunker. But it is probably a good time to "buy it cheap and stack it deep" on many levels. We're seeing unprecedented bargains on items that will improve our future safety and security, and I'm not only talking guns, ammo, and shooting gear. Prepper oriented websites are have incredible sales as well... water filters, LTS foods, power/energy, etc. As to the OP...You might well be a Prepper if you shop "loss leaders" weekly after inventorying your main pantry (where you've dated and rotated your stores) and make sure you purchase by the case lot when these "loss leaders" match your needs (maintaining 6-12 month supply). You may not shoot everyday, but I bet you eat every day.

  32. Yes since that would be "incident to lawful hunting...activity." The 18 year old is using the pistol to hunt. Even a minor can hunt with a pistol under 39-17-1319(d)(1)(D). But we don't fish with pistols, so that's a no-go in my reading of the law.

  33. It is really hard to see those little bumps at 100 yards unless you have some high-end optics and the deer gives you a good angle. It stinks when it happens but as long as the deer gets in your belly, then don't sweat it too much! I'm starting to get burned out. I had the perfect opportunity to get out and hunt today- my wife took our kids to visit family for the night and I'm off work. Instead, I slept in and worked around the house. It was nice sleeping in for once but I'm now kicking myself for not being on a stand right now.

  34. Well, mother nature decided to smile, or grin, on me today, about 8ish I spot my first doe, but she is silhouetted on the ridge, with the road and some trailers behind her so no shot. A few minutes later I spot her, or a different doe, but this time she is traveling toward my hunting zone. So I put the scope on her to line up a clean shot when I spot a second deer further up. I thought it was a wee bit bigger so now I'm in a quandary, I'm hunting for a small doe but now am thinking maybe I should take the bigger one, and in the back of my mind I'm thinking maybe it's a buck. So they both move around me, they started at about my 7 o'clock and couldn't really get clean shot until they reached my 11:30 or so. By that time, I know there are no antlers on either one, and they're small, so now I will go for whichever gives me the best profile for a DRT attempt. Well, the "bigger" of the two is the one so I line up a neck shot and fire, down it goes. But it lands behind a big tree so no follow up shot which I thought it may need since it was kicking a bit. The other deer jumped and ran up the hill when I shot but circled around to check on the other one, giving me some real good angles...but, I was only after one more so even though I scoped her, and thought about it, I gave her a pass. So after all that, I get to the downed deer and it's a button buck, again. I don't know how you guys do it, but at the 100 yard distance, and 4 power, there was no way I could spot those buttons, heck, I can't even count points on bigger bucks most times. Not that I feel bad or anything, they taste great, but I would rather of harvested does instead of button bucks.

  35. Horse pucky for a first post. You don't even have to be 18 to be gifted one in TN for lawful sporting purposes such as target shooting, though must be 18 to hunt with one . And only 18 to possess one in your vehicle, or to buy/sell one in private transaction. - OS

  37. Secret Santa is a lot of fun.... but mine is testing my patience. Literally. Check it out! This box was on my front porch. Turned upside down. So I brought it in like that. Feet included for scale, pay no attention to the dimensions on the box. Righting it then opening, I found this tiny package. Granted, there was also what appeared to be a giant pile of paper packed in there... which all turned out to be these! So I'm not sure what to do. Open them all now? Wait till Christmas - then keep the party going for 12 more days?!!?!! Not sure if I can keep the the inner child at bay and NOT tear into them all. We'll find out soon enough! PS: Secret Santa marked that one is for Ruby and Oso(Bear!) - The dogs! Huzzah! Bonus pic of Bear, he went straight too sniffing the one marked for him. I will have to visit my parent's house for a recent pic of Ruby! EDIT: ANOTHER BOX CAME IN TODAY. Updates soon. The first boxes are opened! Opened the small package marked Merry Christmas - There was a camo Gideons New Testament In the tall box I received today there was another XI, and a note - it is the 12 days of Christmas. And no, it's not late! The 12 days start on Christmas and go till Epiphany. That said, I'll test my will and try to open them 1 at a time... unless the forum consensus is just tear the paper. In which case it's opening time.

Opened a bottle of beer within minutes of getting the opener and it will get used every day. The tank is cool, still trying to figure out the caliber and origin based ont he headstamp. And the ammunition will definitely go to good use, I am definitely and AK guy now. I've got a few guns to tune and this will be perfect. Thanks to my Secret Santa.

  43. Here's my problem with that. Even if the founding fathers and writers of our state constitution (more about that later) really only meant for protection against a standing army (which we currently have, so what about the constitutionally of that?) and our government, they didn't state that clearly in the 2d amendment. It's amazing how people think the 1st amendment should be taken at face value (one of it's intents was protection against the government!), but the 2d shouldn't? (that pesky comma (originally a semi-colon) and the word "people" instead of "militia" make a huge difference.) It really doesn't matter anyone's intent, it matters what's actually written down when it comes to law (at least it's supposed to!) We saw this issue with the parking lots law two years ago where lawmakers like Ramsey were saying "well, we intended it to protect workers", but we mostly agree here that the actual wording doesn't protect workers from firing at all. Judges use the word "intent" as a fancy way to ignore the words written. Yes, we have to understand what the words like "well regulated" mean because that phrase was used a certain way back then that's not the same day, but research hasn't shown that the words "people" and "infringed" hasn't changed in english since the late 1700's. That constitution wording can really be taken at face value and it was supposed to be. Now about court decisions. The problem with our legal system and how it decides legality of laws is that it relies way too heavily on other legal cases. I encourage everyone to read this op-ed piece by former Justice John Paul Stevens (https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/the-five-extra-words-that-can-fix-the-second-amendment/2014/04/11/f8a19578-b8fa-11e3-96ae-f2c36d2b1245_story.html?utm_term=.04797c7f8e29) as it's a prime example of citing horrible former decisions and wanting to legislate from the bench. Here are some of the real doozies from it: What's interesting about the first sentence is Stevens is a fan of trumping states rights in many cases, but for some reason in this issue he's all about states rights. He also willfully ignores the 10th and 14th amendments, which both have been repeatedly affirmed by the SC (if he wants to refer to former court cases as a basis for his argument.) The entire constitution either applies or it doesn't. He refers to the Miller case, but strangely leaves out any details except the final ruling. Details such as, the previous judge (a gun control proponent in congress before becoming a judge) ruled in millers favor (which his argument was simply quoting the 2d amendment), but his ruling was designed to push the case to the SC and that when the SC took it up, the defendant (a bank robber) wouldn't show up to defend himself or the constitution. You start reading the argument by SC and it's pretty crazy. But here's the real kicker, the SC heard arguments from the government but NO ONE argued for Miller. So Stevens is citing a case that is the definition of one sided (setup to be so from the beginning!) To see a former SC justice quote such a case should give us all great pause about judges using other case law to decide the law. But this issue is bigger than just gun law, this issue permeates all aspects of the law. It's amazing how many cases I'll look up when I see a case cited and and flabbergasted at the ruling in the original case. I would encourage ANYONE who says they support the second amendment to read this doc (http://www.law.nyu.edu/sites/default/files/ECM_PRO_060964.pdf) and the original ruling (https://www.law.cornell.edu/supremecourt/text/307/174) and then the Heller and McDonald rulings (https://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/07-290.ZS.html) (https://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/cert/08-1521) It's amazing how the two latter cases TOTALLY contradict the rulings of Miller case (people's right vs militia's) but also how the two latter also didn't take it to the full logical conclusion-aka don't want to deal with the politics of actual liberty. What's amazing is that, even states like IL have it in their constitution that the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. So the state constitution says a right to bear arms, but that's somehow ignored by him? What's even more frustrating is that he thinks, in this case, the states should decide, but in other cases he's all about zero states rights. He is inconsistent beyond belief. But that's why I bolded part of his statement above. It shows, by his own words, that he's really more interested in the political outcome (his) than the actual rule of law. I am sure that he would have voted for the gay marriage issue if could have, even though it was a states rights issue. I honestly believe that we will never have consistency in the ruling of law because there are too many people that are about their own political purpose than what the Constitution and law actually says.

  44. I have been keeping my eye open for a .357 or .38 revolver for a while. Not a rush, but I like them. My Dad has a Smith .45 Model 1917 that I grew up around. So preference was on a Smith or a Colt. Finally found a guy who said he had a Smith & Wesson Model 10 to trade. Met him and traded. From my research this did not look like a Model 10, but looked good anyway. Got home and started digging. Looks like I am the new owner of a Smith & Wesson .38 Military & Police square butt model from the early- to mid-1920s (probably 1924/25). All the Serial numbers match, but the grips are not original. Apparently they are from the '30's and are even rarer than the ones that are supposed to be on it. I had a guy at the Smith forum immediately offer to swap me the correct ones and "a dollar or two extra." I politely declined. All in all I think I got the better end of the deal. I think he thought he just had some old revolver to get rid of. Went and shot it yesterday just out in a field and everything ran smooth. Gave her a good cleaning last night. Gonna test accuracy at the range next time. Also, looking for a nice leather holster for her to live in. The generic Uncle Mikes he gave me with it does not do this gun justice. Just wanted to share my excitement. Rarely do I get this lucky.

  45. Welcome. You might want to borrow a different handgun for your permit class. Most of the people in my class used .22 semis. The club that was hosting, even had extra Ruger .22s that could be rented cheap with ammo. By the time you shoot 50 rounds you may appreciate the lighter rounds.

  47. They could initially, but it wouldn't last. This is simple industry economics. Right now there is a balance with supply and demand. If they take them off the NFA list, there will be a very short period (probably a year) where the supply will not meet the demand. Some short sighted companies will spike the prices as the demand curve shifts up. However, there is a very low barrier of entry into the market and other companies that do similar work will realize that the product is relatively cheap to create and since there is not room for much innovation in the future it would not be hard for a company to recreate the product. Once those low barriers of entry allow more competition, the supply line slides down and eventually makes for a more competitive industry, requiring manufacturers to either make a better product, make them cheaper for the consumer, or both. And those companies that spike the prices will lose customer loyalty due to the fact they temporarily screwed their customers (ex. Cheaper Than Dirt did this with AR mags and 22lr rounds during panic, and lost a lot of revenue in the long run.) I think we will absolutely see more companies taking this on, more quality products at better pricing, better customer service, better mounts, etc.in order for the companies to survive in the industry. And nobody will be paying Advanced Armament $75 for a piston or $150 for a BRAKEOUT comp.
