  1. A friend sent me a link to the Extar EP 9. It's a 9mm "pistol" that accepts Glock magazines. Here's the link: http://extarusa.com/ep9.htm I've spent the past week in deep South MS sans internet connectivity, so I've only done a cursory search since I returned last evening. But these look like an affordable entry point into PPC... IF they function reliably. And that'd be the kicker... This is a polymer blow-back design, so long term durability could/would be a concern. But, it's around $400.00...so there's that. Anyone have any first hand experience with one?

  2. We were planing on leaving early this morning, but God had other plans. I met a guy last night, same age as me, wife same age as mine, 3 kids like me, a house... But my house still has the siding and shingles on it and isn’t surrounded by fallen trees. I put a extra saw in his hands and we went to work.

  3. America finally signalled its intention to become fully committed to war in Vietnam with the arrival of 3,500 combat troops just north of Da Nang, on March 8, 1965. Men of the 9th Marine Expeditionary Brigade were met by South Vietnamese officers, girls carrying leis, sight-seers and four US soldiers holding a sign saying ‘Welcome, Gallant Marines’. It was all much to the dismay of General William Westmoreland, the senior US officer in the country at that time. Both Westmoreland (pictured below) and General Nguyen Van Thieu, chief of the South Vietnamese Armed Forces Council, had asked for the troops to be "brought ashore in the most inconspicuous way feasible".

  5. Sorry for the poor pic, but my wife took it in our back yard a few minutes ago. She said the dogs were deathly afraid of it. I've never seen a dog around here that would pass for it, and it looks too big for a coyote. Cinnamon bear cub?

  7. It’s a design from the early 1950’s. USAF survival rifle. That’s a stupid price for what it is.

  8. Being a gunsmith I’m sure. I could get an appointment at a dentist quicker that getting a gun fixed by a smith. Point is @Steelharp didn’t give us much to go on. A pic would have helped!

  13. If reliable, a very attractive option, price and looks, in the PCC/PDW segment. Which TGOer will be the first test subject?

  17. Caught this pic a few nites ago, in the woods behind my house. Pic is in grey scale . Appears to be a long, wide beam of light about 30 to 36" in dia., at a slight angle. Definitely not a tree. Goes from the ground up as far as the camera showed. Appeared at 2 min. 23 secs past midnite. Large oak tress make a canopy where this was. Light could not make it thru like this. Found no sign of it next morning. Weird. Lots of strange things have occurred back there.

  18. I had a supervisor back years ago, that went over there in '67 and stayed nearly 18 months. He said after he came home he was jumpy for a long time.

  22. I haven't put together a 1911 in quite a few years. Back in 1982 I was asked to put together a 1911A1 production line by Doug Nickells who was the manager of Auto Ordnance West Hurley at the time. George Numrich had a crap load of GI 1911 parts across the drive way at Numrich Arms. So after we got the thousands of parts transferred over, I set up the tooling to get the Essex frames and slides fit with GI parts. Thus the Auto Ordnance 1911A1 was born in 82. I have to say, Fridays was the best work day of my life! All I did for the day was test fire the week's production run. 4600 1911A1's went threw my hands up until I quit in late 83. Yup, that was a neat job for sure. Well any way, This thing started out as just a Springfield armory Champion barrel and slide from "everygunpart.com" . GB had nice SS commander 80% frames for $144 and the rest of the parts came from mostly Ebay. I wanted a nice flashy piece for a change so after everything was fit to working order, I put a mirror finish on the side flats and glass bead blasted all the outer contor edges. The frame rails are +- .002 with the slide for a start then hand fit over what ever slide warp there was. A fun project that should print fairly well to boot! The first shot you can see me holding the camera and my red tee shirt while in the second shot, it just refects the white ceiling.

  23. Thanks for this thread! I have a few pieces of "range brass" with those markings and that 3 point staking on the primer, wasn't sure what it was and haven't tried to reload it. The brass is almost identical in weight, case capacity, and neck thickness as the LC ('75) I use.

  25. Got invited to hunt down south of Eagleville. The doves were flying. Unfortunately the direction they were flying took them over the field beside us first. That field had some good shooters in it. Not a lot of doves made it to our field. The ones that did were moving fast. We only got 20 doves between myself, my cousin and his two kids. The majority of the doves were taken by the kids. I got the first dove with the very first shot I had ever took with my new to me o/u. It went downhill real fast after that for me. Still was a great, albeit a little hot, afternoon.
