  1.   The LEO who is truly a professional and is genuinely trying to protect the rights of law-abiding citizens knows he has a hard job, but he doesn't use that as an excuse to violate those citizens' rights, and we shouldn't accept it as an excuse either.

  3. As a general rule in my book... everything is the governments fault ;)  It has the added benefit of normally being right ;)   Take a $400 a week drug habit and turn it into a $4 a week drug habit and you're talking a lot fewer crimes to feed their habit though.   Bad people will do bad things, nothing we can do will ever changes that...  we lock up those bad people and keep them separate from the rest of us...   But, how many people in your career did you arrest who were trying to steal to feed their smoking or drinking habit?  How much of our property crime is really related to cost of tobacco and alcohol?  I'd estimate it to be a very small fraction of said crime.  More importantly, when was the last time you saw Marlboro men do a drive by on Joe Camel's men over a street corner?   Maybe we trade a 10-15% increase in violent crime due to some more folks becoming addicted to drugs...  but in return we drastically reduce violent crime by moving the sale of drugs from the streets to stores, along with reducing petty and property crimes by drastically reducing the price of the product...  drastically reduce law enforcement costs, K9 units, asset seizures, questionable searches, no knock raids, shooting of family pets... etc.     It's not some utopia, those don't exist, but it's clear to any rational person that the war on drugs is much worse at this point, than the drugs themselves.

  4. I agree completely..  any officer who pulls their firearm out and points it at a citizen without a real and specific threat of serious bodily injury or death should be fired from the force, and be facing aggravated assault charges...   Just like you or I would if we did the same.

  5. This is first try. Shot as the rules say. This is shot from the holster. The time is 1.88s first shot, 2.30s second, reload and then 4.53s third and 4.95s last shot.

  6.   So basically you are advocating a LEO threatening deadly force against a citizen who is committing no crime and had made no threatening actions, right?

  7. "An officer may not stop an individual and “demand[] identification without any specificbasis for believing he is involved in criminal activity.”    http://www.tn.gov/attorneygeneral/op/2004/op/op148.pdf   This does not prevent the officer from requesting.  If you read the whole PDF it should fairly well answer your question.

  10.   An Aimpoint PRO at 20% off can be a great deal.  Those are solid optics.   The rest of the tax free weekend I blew off.  Even a 9.75% discount isn't worth being out in public when shoppers descend en-masse like they do on these weekends.

  17.   Also CTAS. Goes way back to UT being able to influence money flow back to the UT system county by county and city by city, under the guise of "helping" them govern. They used to have CGT (Center for Government Training) where they'd go into cities and counties and conduct workshops after elections. They finally got so few invites to do that they closed it down, but somehow CTAS and MTAS keeps cranking.   Same thing as having an Ag agent in each county, though that I guess still has more of an actual beneficial nature.   - OS

  19. Posting this from my new Macbook Pro!!  My old Macbook is 8 years old and was purchased during the tax free weekend as well.  Its amazing he difference 8 years in technology upgrades make!     So this Macbook was $1,499.  Since is tax free, that saves $140.  Since my wife is a student, that saved us another $100 and Apple was doing a promotion that if you buy a computer, you get a $100 gift card for the Apple store.  So this saved me $340!  Cant beat that man.     Amazing how lowering taxes helps people spend money....

  20. Oh I agree with what you are saying about criminals crossing or borders. But again, that doesn’t have anything to do with the military. If the military were to start getting ready to protect the borders Alex Jones and his followers that have their tin foil hats screwed on so tight they are cutting off circulation to their brains will be trying to convince you they are preparing for an assault on residential neighborhoods. Russia, China attacks us? What’s changed in the last 60 years? MAD... It’s still in effect. Beijing, Moscow and all their major cities.. Gone. Why would they do that? If we are going to lose our country we are going to lose it to the liberals and the criminals that will destroy it while we are looking for threat that doesn’t exist.

  21. I don't buy into the "He's trying to destroy the country before he leaves" theory. To me Obama is just another in a long line of crappy politicians that the people of this country has chosen to lead us' Like many others here, I have served and fought for this country. I have also seen the reductions in force before. As someone stated, it makes no sense to have a large peace time military. I also don't worry about anyone invading us. Our biggest threats from China and Russia are economic. Lastly, I believe that our military is too large and could stand to continue becoming smaller, lighter and more lethal. A lot of us are older and can't fathom a military without thousands of tanks and aircraft on the battlefield. Thanks to modern technology those days are almost over. In the future when we have to put boots on the ground, they will still be the best trained and prepared fighting force that the world had ever known.

  22. Are those the scenarios? I know the Russians have subs off our coast; they always have had. We do the same to them. What do you think those subs will do? The Islamic centers will be dealt with locally if they become a problem. And unless posse comitatus is repealed (and it will be some day) the border is not a military issue now. I’m not making any arguments for cutting military spending; I just don’t understand how anyone would think that would lead to an invasion of our country.

  26. I don't know how people pocket carry a Shield.  I love my Shield 9mm, it shoots great, and I can carry it in a 3speed holster fine... but even on my overly large pants, I can barely stuff it in my pocket, and its hard to remove, and its pretty visible its a gun in the pocket.  The only thing I carry in my pocket is a LCP, which pretty much vanishes.

  27. Question:  How big of a military do we need to protect us at home?   Answer: A lot smaller of a military than we'll have after these cuts.

It was a great match, any time I don't see a bunch of strong, weak, tac sequence, pick this card, shoot all this color, or don't shoot this color it makes me happy.  JJ I've got a video or two of you somewhere if you want it.  Haven't went through them all yet nor have I decided the best route to get them to people.  Wanted to let you know though.

  29. With a G29 there will not be a whole lot of differences between a G29sf Gen3 and a Gen4 other than grip texture and a reversible mag release. Both will have a dual recoil spring assembly. You will have larger backstraps to install on the gen4 but hardly anyone uses them because the grip is so fat anyway. The Gen4 will also include an additional magazine for a total of 3. The regular 29 has a thicker backstrap making the trigger reach substantial and the 29SF (short frame) was a successful attempt to shorten the reach by a short distance. The regular 29 has been discontinued and SF and Gen4 without a backstrap are about the same distance from the backstrap to the trigger.

  32. Thanks for taking the time to respond in more detail (even though I hate the news).  After reading his email I can understand the business reasons for closing including the shift in how  most of us buy our stuff, the neighborhood the facility is in and I've wondered for some time if they would move and build a new, state-of-the art training facility as their current building is very much showing its age but I never thought they would close down.   There are many places to train but few trainers of the qualifications of Tom Givens or most of his trainers for that matter.  I've shifted my training $$$ between Tactical Response and Rangemaster (and they seem to have a symbiotic relationship anyway) so I've managed to take several classes at RM including Massad Ayoob's MAG20 course. Even thought I don't get there often I feel like I'm losing an old friend (which seems to be a reoccurring theme as I get older).  :sadwave:

  33.   12 7 gal Aquatainers divided between two bathrooms. Though not recommended, stacked two high. Plus some 2 liter pop bottles full here and there. Anybody with any room at all could store 3 months worth pretty easily for one person.  Frugal use of a gallon per day is enough for hydration plus frugal cooking/cleaning/sponge batch.   - OS

  34. It is about money. The war is winding down. Each Army  division is loosing one Brigade Combat Team. The loss will be replace by a NG BCT that will become attached to that division for practical purposes. The war is winding down. A large standing Military cost money. The Reserves are cheaper.. This has happened after every war.   Majority of the worlds militaries or defense forces are small with a large reserve if needed.

  35. What do these numbers mean? How many Captains and Majors are there now? I have to assume they aren’t cutting these military members, so am I safe in assuming this is attrition of the positions? I truly believe Obama is doing everything in his power to hurt this country before he leaves office, but is that what is going on or are these reductions due to technology or other factors? Does Congress vote on these cuts? These are serious questions, sorry, I just don’t buy into the “Obama is cutting those that won’t turn on Americans”; that can’t even be a part of a serious discussion... in my opinion.

  37. As much as I love the Old Muscle, you can't deny that today's performance cars are leaps and bounds ahead of that great era of the 60s and early 70s.   Example - - - The new 2015 Mustang GT's 5.0-liter (302 c.i.) engine produces 435hp and 400 lb-ft of torque while getting a combined 20+mpg.   AND you don't have to adjust any solid lifters, clean & re-gap the plugs, or set the points before every weekend!

  39.   So you stick to your "right", and then the cop may feel he then has reasonable suspicion to mess with you more. Can make for a miserable evening. And unless you have deep enough pockets to go for a civil rights suit, your only practical recourse is to file a complaint with the department, which of course will almost certainly see it as a quite trivial matter indeed.   Or you could simply show him your ID and tell him why you're walking up the friggin road. Hell, he might offer you a ride home.   - OS

  42. The thing I dont get about Henry is, why in the flying f*ck do they have to make them where they load from the muzzle instead of the receiver like a Winchester ot Marlin. I would own several of their rifles if they loaded through the receiver like normal.

  43. I had one but never shot it after reading about all the problems with them. I traded it for a Mini 14.   I want a bolt action; perhaps stainless steel.   The CZ's look good to me. I'm also considering a Savage or Marlin. Does Ruger still make a 77/22 with the boat paddle stock?

  49. I try to make things as easy as possible for the officer when I get pulled over. I roll down my windows (all of them), turn on the interior lights, place both hands on the wheel and when the LEO asks provide both Lisc and HCP which are on the dash so I don't have to take my hands out of sight. I figure that's gotta be a tense moment for an officer... walking up on an unknown... anything I can do to make their life easier. The officers seem to be appreciative. It might not be necessary but it costs me nothing and makes their lives a little less tense, so why not.
